Sierra Nevada Hop Hunter IPA - American IPA

OK. How do I not try something made with hop OIL? O. I. L. Holy mother this is an intense hop experience!! It's hard to get any multi sweetness out of this brew. It burns away in the hop astringency of the finish. Hop lovers, this beer was made for you. 6.2% ABV. Label says 60 IBUs which, to me, means hop bitterness doesn't drive IBUs. If that's the case, what does "International Bittering Units" mean? It's a measurement of alpha acids in beer - which get there from the addition of hops. A more subjective scale, but rating beer on its perceived bitterness is the European Bitterness Units (EBU) which might better guide buyers on beers they would enjoy. Watch over me, mild one, Most we need thee, truly every moment in the world of men. send us, son of the virgin, good causes, all aid is from thee, in my heart. Historically, Iceland's approach to theology is quirky when compared to continental Europe. Iceland was one of the last countries to covert to Christianity, adopting it as an “official” religion around the 11th century. Before this, like most Scandinavian cultures, Iceland worshiped the Norse Gods. Because of their comparatively young conversion to Christianity, Icelandic Theology often incorporated elements of their previous beliefs, creating a unique, quirky interperation of Theology somewhat akin to practices found in Central America. Heyr, Himnasmiður is the title of a hymn by Icelandic author Kolbeinn Tumason. The text was written sometime during the late 12th century and is frequently associated with funerals. Given the small amount of people who speak Icelandic, paired with the small size of Iceland, the Icelandic language has evolved slower than other European languages. Icelanders are capable of understanding original Norse Myths as they were originally documented. This text, as old as it seems to an English speaker, is still easily understood. The text gives subtle nods to Iceland's norse tradition, using terms like “Heavensmith” to describe God or “the whole ground” to refer to the realm of men. Because of this emotional property, the work incorporates chant, generally shies away from tertian chords (a development in music much later than the date of this poem) and plays with the emotional context behind smaller intervals (a technique explored and perfected during the development of chant.) Some more information on the languages (from Wikipedia): Ubykh, tʷaxəbza in the Ubykh language, is an extinct Northwest Caucasian language that died with its last native speaker, Tevfik Esenç, in 1992. It has the largest consonant inventory among attested non-click languages, with 84 phonemic consonants (but only two phonemic vowels). Old English, Ænglisc in Old English, is the direct ancestor of the modern English language, although very different due to its lack of Romance influence from the Normans, and because of this is much closer to Icelandic or German. It was spoken from the mid fifth to mid twelfth centuries. Proto-Germanic is the unattested common ancestor of all the Germanic languages and is a descendant language of Proto-Indo-European, likely spoken in present-day Denmark, and southern Scandinavia about three thousand years ago.. However, certain inscriptions found may be of the early Proto-Norse or late Proto-Germanic periods. Proto-Indo-European is the unattested, yet highly supported common ancestor of all Indo-European languages, including Hellenic (including Greek), Italic (including Latin and the Romance languages), Germanic, Celtic, Slavic, and the Indo-Iranian languages. There are about 439 Indo-European languages, with almost three billion native speakers, by far the most of any widely recognized language family. The most accepted hypothesis places it spoken in the Pontic steppe, about six thousand years ago, although estimates vary greatly. Proto-Nostratic is a controversial common ancestor of Afro-Asiatic, Kartvelian, Dravidian, Eurasiatic (including Uralic, Indo-European, and Altaic), sometimes including Elamite, Sumerian, Nivkh, Yukaghir, Chukotko-Chamkatkan, and Eskimo-Aleut languages. It is believed to be spoken in the Fertile Crescent around 12,000 years ago. I made quite a few mistakes - see if you can spot them! Hopefully my American English accent didn't get in the way to much. Anyways, thanks for watching! Maybe in the future I'll do another... I'd like to do Latin, Ancient Greek, maybe Old Chinese. I'd need some good texts with IPA pronunciations though. If you want, suggest a language in the comments! I can't imagine how anyone could speak fluent Ubykh. They must have very tough uvulas... (Luckily the Ubykh text didn't use qˁʼ)

She was born to Jacques d'Arc and Isabelle, a peasant family, at Domrémy in north-east France. Joan said she received visions of the Archangel Michael, Saint Margaret and Saint Catherine instructing her to support Charles VII and recover France from English domination late in the Hundred Years' War. The uncrowned King Charles VII sent Joan to the siege of Orléans as part of a relief mission. She gained prominence after the siege was lifted in only nine days. Several additional swift victories led to Charles VII's coronation at Reims. This long-awaited event boosted French morale and paved the way for the final French victory. On 23 May 1430 she was captured at Compiègne by the Burgundian faction which was allied with the English. She was later handed over to the English, and then put on trial by the pro-English Bishop of Beauvais Pierre Cauchon on a variety of charges. After Cauchon declared her guilty she was burned at the stake on 30 May 1431, dying at about nineteen years of age. Twenty-five years after her execution, an inquisitorial court authorized by Pope Callixtus III examined the trial, debunked the charges against her, pronounced her innocent, and declared her a martyr. Joan of Arc was beatified in 1909 and canonized in 1920. She is one of the nine secondary patron saints of France, along with St. Denis, St. Martin of Tours, St. Louis, St. Michael, St. Remi, St. Petronilla, St. Radegund and St. Thérèse of Lisieux. Excerpt from Wikipedia "Oṃ maṇi padme hūṃ[1] (Sanskrit: ॐ मणिपद्मे हूं, IPA: [õːː məɳipəd̪meː ɦũː]) is the six-syllabled Sanskrit mantra particularly associated with the four-armed Shadakshari form of Avalokiteshvara (Tibetan Chenrezig, Chinese Guanyin), the bodhisattva of compassion. Mani means "jewel" or "bead" and Padma means "the lotus flower", the Buddhist Sacred Flower. It is commonly carved onto rocks or written on paper which is inserted into prayer wheels. When an individual spins the wheel, it is said that the effect is the same as reciting the mantra as many times as it is duplicated within the wheel. The first known description of the mantra appears in the Karandavyuha Sutra (Chinese: 佛說大乘莊嚴寶王經 (Taisho Tripitaka 1050);[3] English: Buddha speaks Mahayana Sublime Treasure King Sutra), which is part of certain Mahayana canons such as the Tibetan. In this sutra, Shakyamuni Buddha states, "This is the most beneficial mantra. Even I made this aspiration to all the million Buddhas and subsequently received this teaching from Buddha Amitabha."[4] The middle part of the mantra, maṇipadme, is often interpreted as "jewel in the lotus," Sanskrit maṇí "jewel, gem, cintamani" and the locative of padma "lotus", but according to Donald Lopez it is much more likely that maṇipadme is in fact a vocative, not a locative, addressing a bodhisattva called maṇipadma, "Jewel-Lotus"- an alternate epithet of the bodhisattva Avalokitesvara.[5] It is preceded by the oṃ syllable and followed by the hūṃ syllable, both interjections without linguistic meaning. Pavel Palazhchenko or Palazchenko (Russian: Па́вел Русла́нович Пала́жченко, born 17 March 1949) is a high-level Soviet conference interpreter who was the chief English interpreter for Mikhail Gorbachev and Soviet foreign minister Eduard Shevardnadze from 1985 and 1991. Palazhchenko was born on 17 March 1949 in Monino, Moscow Oblast, Russia. He graduated from the Maurice Thorez Moscow Institute of Foreign Languages (Moscow State Linguistic University) in 1972. As one of the leading interpreters of his time, Palazhchenko participated in all US-Soviet summit talks leading to the end of the Cold War. He is the author of a personal and political memoir, My Years with Gorbachev and Shevardnadze: The Memoir of a Soviet Interpreter. Palazhchenko also wrote the Moi Nesistematichesky Slovar or My Unsystematic Dictionary which was published in Russia by R. Valent publications in May 2002. The 300-page Russian-English dictionary provides information, insight and cultural observation on the linguistic twists and turns that lie between the English and Russian languages; and was a sequel to Palazhchenko’s other work: the English-Russian dictionary published in 1999. The 1999 English-Russian dictionary dealt with trends in the political, diplomatic and journalistic usage in the English language.[4][5] Palazhchenko loves his trade. In his book, My Unsystematic Dictionary, Palazhchenko writes: This very occupation, to imbibe the air of a foreign (and your own) language, to rake through the throng of words and, having found the right one, feel its texture, its size and then grope for the threads connecting the two languages, has always been my favorite thing to do… – from “Book Tackles Those Hard Words”, The Moscow Times, June 3, 2002.[4] In 2005, the third book of this series, Unsystematic Dictionary-2005 was published.
