Despite the Chancellor’s announcement last week that police budgets would not be cut ‘further’, thousands of Police and Police Staff are still being cut as Constabularies try to shed millions of pounds from their budgets to meet the uncompromising cuts to police financing laid down in previous budgets.
These cuts will see Police and PCSO’s patrolling the streets reduced, police stations closed, police staff jobs disappearing; many of which provide vital support functions to operational policing are at risk of redundancy.
This is a real blow to our dedicated staff as they face a real risk of redundancy and a loss of their profession, but the real impact will be felt by the community as the public’s face of policing is radically reduced.

Every year just before Christmas, the Honolulu Police Department and Walmart partner up to host the annual Shop with a Cop event. This year is a little special. I spoke to Officer Alan Ibrao of the Honolulu Police Department, District 1 Community Policing Team who related that this year besides partnering up with Walmart, the military's 624th Aeromedical Staging Squadron, Joint Base Pearl Harbor participated as well, and were joined by heroes from the Law Enforcement HPD Officers who came out on their own time this morning.
Officer Alan Ibrao related, "What we do is take children out to go shopping for Christmas, usually children that have hardship in their family. So that's what we do to help these families and bring Christmas to them. Since many of them don't have much money, we share the Aloha spirit and take them shopping."
Seeing these children on one side seems sad and very emotional, but to see their smiles and hear their thank yous was "very touching for me," and makes you realize how lucky most of us are. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all the children that were present this morning at the Shop with a Cop annual event at Walmart Keeaumoku. A special Mahalo to Assistant Chief Clayton Kau, Major Roy Sugimoto, Captain Benjamin Mahi, Captain Ryan Nishibun, Sergeant Deric Valoroso, Officer Alan Ibrao, Officer Robert Sterling and the Honolulu Police Department, District 1 Community Policing Team. Special thanks to Mr. Eddie Flores Jr., President & CEO of L&L; Drive-Inn for donating the breakfast to all the kids at today's event.

Speaking in the wake of the Baltimore protests, Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke testified before a House panel Tuesday, warning law enforcement officers are at a “tipping point” that could spell dangerous consequences for the communities they serve.
Clarke explained that he spent last week in the D.C. area for National Police Week. There he spoke with law enforcement officers from across the country and said he heard a similar message from each.
“We’re at a tipping point and it is something that I expressed not too long after what happened in Ferguson, Missouri, about the psyche of the police officer who watches these things go on, just like anybody else does, and the constant bashing and maligning of the profession is starting to take its toll,” Clarke said at a House Judiciary Committee hearing examining police strategies.
