The Imperial crown jewels of Iran (also known as the Imperial crown jewels of Persia) include several elaborate crowns and decorative thrones, thirty tiaras, and numerous aigrettes, a dozen bejeweled swords and shields, a vast number of unset precious gems, numerous plates and other dining services cast in precious metals and encrusted with gems, and several other more unusual items (such as a large golden globe with the oceans made of emeralds and the latitudes and longitudes marked in diamonds) collected by the Iranian monarchy from the 16th century (Safavid dynasty) on. The collection is housed at The Treasury of National Jewels (the official name) but is known colloquially as the Jewellery Museum. It is situated inside the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran on Tehran's Ferdowsi Avenue. The Imperial crown jewels of Iran are the largest set of displayed jewels in the world in state ownership in one location. The museum is open to the public from 14:00 to 16:30 hrs except on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The museum has onsite guides with knowledge of Persian, English, French and Russian languages. My name's Michael and I'm the Marketing Manager for Wild Frontiers. I'm here at the magnificent site of Persepolis in Iran. I've been in Iran for two weeks now and so far I've been enchanted by this fascinating country. CITIES The capital Tehran is most people's starting point, and in this busy city you can see ostentatious ornaments from the royal household in the crown jewels museum, and wander around the Shah's old residence, Golestan Palace. Just north of Tehran you can visit the Elburz Mountains for skiing in the winter or hiking in the summer. But the real highlights lie elsewhere. In the off-the-beaten-track city of Yazd you'll find a cityscape dotted with the ingenious wind tunnels -- which could be described as the world's first air-conditioning system - the ancient Zoroastrian site of the Towers of Silence, the magnificent Friday Mosque and a number of beautiful palaces and gardens. Shiraz meanwhile is a lovely university town, known as the city of poets, wine, literature and flowers, and is a real delight. I particularly loved visiting the atmospheric tomb of the Persian poet Hafez. In the evenings it has a magical atmosphere as people gather to read poetry and celebrate the life of this revered poet. Shiraz is also blessed with numerous picturesque mosques and beautiful gardens. The jewel in the Persian crown is undoubtedly the beautiful city of Esfahan, which has one of the largest squares in the world in the breathtaking Naqsh Jahan Square and probably the most stunning Islamic architecture found anywhere. Esfahan is unbelievably picturesque, with its famed bridges and lively bazaars. ANCIENT SITES Iran has a long and rich history, with the Persian Empire at one point ruling over 44% of the world's population. The country is home to some world-class archaeological sites, including the rock-carved tombs of Nagsh e Rostam, where Darius the great is buried, and the spectacular Achamaenid palace complex at Persepolis. This ancient palace was built by Darius the Great to celebrate events such as the Persian New Year, when representatives from the four corners of the empire would congregate. This vast site merits at least a couple of hours to explore the ruins and bas reliefs. SCENERY But it's not only about the cities and ancient sites, the scenery of Iran is an unexpected highlight. From beautiful picnic spots such as the Murgon Waterfalls, to fertile valleys in the Bavanat Mountains, where you can encounter Kashqai nomads and see a way of life that has changed little over centuries. In the Dena mountains around Yasuj you'll find an alpine scenery of snow-capped mountains, lakes and streams. It is well worth spending some time away from the better-known cultural sites to explore this lesser-known side of Iran. It really is a beautiful country. THE PEOPLE The people of Iran are another real highlight, being welcoming and keen to engage in conversation about everything from politics to football. You are likely to be surrounded by schoolkids asking you questions, offered tea and invited to share in picnics with the locals pretty much wherever you go. If ever a people were misrepresented by a regime it would be the Iranians. Thanks to a baby boom in the 80's, over 60% of its 70 million population are aged under 30. This generation is well-educated, worldly, and exposed to global media through the internet. Walking around the streets -- which are incidentally very safe - this certainly feels like a nation on the cusp of change. So forget about any preconceptions you may have about safety, security, or the welcome you'll receive in Iran. I've found the people to be the friendliest and most hospitable I've found anywhere in the world. So check out Wild Frontiers' tours to Iran and discover for yourself this fascinating country.

Iranian boss punches reporter in the balls - which Premier League manager will be first to give it a go? Low blow alert! Esteghlal chairman Bahram Afsharzade punches unsuspecting reporter in the ghoulies As managers get increasingly irritated by the press, it's only a matter of time until a journalist gets punched in the balls - just like this unfortunate Iranian reporter In the Premier League, managers, players and chairmen have little choice but to put up with the media. Answering questions from the press is part of the job. Over in Iran, football people view things differently. In that part of the world, it seems a difficult question can simply be met with a punch in the knackers. Bahram Afsharzade is the chairman of Esteghlal - one of Iran's biggest teams - so you would think he'd be used to reporters ambushing him with queries about his club. Apparently not. In this clip, despite appearing perfectly calm, he offers a response to the waiting journalist… before appearing to strike him right in the crown jewels. Seems a bit over the top. Our biggest worry is that Premier League bosses could see this and feel inspired. After all, there are quite a few top flight managers who are getting increasingly irritated with the press at the moment. The question is: which gaffer could be the first to snap and hit one of us in the unmentionables?

CIA on Trial in Virginia for Planting Nuke Evidence in Iran Since Tuesday and continuing for the coming three weeks, an amazing trial is happening in U.S. District Court at 401 Courthouse Square in Alexandria, Va. The trial is open to the public, and among the upcoming witnesses is Condoleezza Rice, but -- unlike the Chelsea Manning trial -- most of the seats at this somewhat similar event are empty. The media is mostly MIA, and during lunch break the two tables at the cafe across the street are occupied, one by the defendant and his lawyers, the other by a small group of activists, including former CIA officer Ray McGovern, blogger Marcy Wheeler (follow her report of every detail at ExposeFacts.org), and Norman Solomon who has organized a petition at DropTheCharges.org -- the name of which speaks for itself. Why Gareth Porter (and others who are focused on the decades-long Western effort to frame Iran with having or pursuing nuclear weapons) are not here, I do not know. Why the public is not here, I do not know. Except that Jeffrey Sterling has not been even so much as demonized in the major media. Jeffrey who? Some people have heard of James Risen, a New York Times reporter who refused to name his source for a story. Damn right. Good for him. But what was the story and whom did the government want named as a source? Ah. Those questions might seem obvious, but the reporting on James Risen has avoided them like the plague for years and years now. And the independent media is not always as good at creating a story as it is at improving on stories in the corporate press. Jeffrey Sterling went to Congress with his story. He was a CIA case officer. He is accused of having taken his story to James Risen. The prosecution is quite clearly establishing, against its own interest, during the course of this trial already, that numerous people were in on the story and could have taken it to Risen. If Sterling is to be proved guilty of the non-crime of blowing the whistle on a crime, the prosecution has yet to hint at how that will be done. But what is the story? What is the crime that Sterling exposed for that tiny sliver of the population that's interested enough to have listened? (Sure, Risen's book was a "best seller" but that's a low hurdle; not a single prospective juror in Alexandria had read the book; even a witness involved in the case testified Wednesday that he'd only read the one relevant chapter.) The story is this. The CIA drew up plans for a key part of a nuclear bomb (what a CIA officer on Wednesday described in his testimony as "the crown jewels" of a nuclear weapons program), inserted flaws in the plans, and then had a Russian give those flawed plans to Iran. During the trial on Wednesday morning, the prosecution's witnesses made clear both that aiding Iran in developing a part of a bomb would be illegal under U.S. export control laws, and that they were aware at the time that there was the possibility of what they were doing constituting just such aid. So, why do it? And why is this trial going on for hours and hours without the slightest relevance to prosecuting Jeffrey Sterling, sounding for all intents and purposes like a defense of the CIA? Well, the stated reason for this operation, known as Operation Merlin, was to slow down Iran's nuclear weapons program by causing Iranian scientists to spend time and resources on a doomed plan that would never work. A very young, very very white jury is hearing the case made thusly. The U.S. government lacked evidence of an Iranian nuclear weapons program and not long after came out with an assessment that such a program did not exist and had not existed for some time. Nonetheless, years of effort and millions of dollars went into trying to slow the program down by a period of months. The CIA created a design, drawing, and parts list for a Russian nuclear fire set (the nuclear bomb component). They intentionally made it incomplete because supposedly no actual Russian scientist would credibly have complete knowledge of it. Then they told their designated Russian to tell the Iranians that it was incomplete because he wanted money, after which he would gladly produce what he couldn't credibly have. According to one cable read aloud in court, the CIA would have liked to give Iran the actual device already constructed for them, but didn't because it wouldn't have been credible for their Russian to have it. http://warisacrime.org/content/cia-trial-virginia-planting-nuke-evidence-iran

BBC News 2013-04-16Crown jewels are jewels or artifacts of the reigning royal family of their respective country. They belong to monarchs and are passed to the next sovereign to symbolize the right to rule. They may include crowns, sceptres, orbs, swords, rings, and other objects. See also: regalia.
Mostly incorporated as part of the regalia of the monarchs of the succeeding Ethiopian Empire (Please see below).
The first king shamim and queen rita ullah had got married in traditional emblem of the Mwami (king) was the Karyenda drum. These holy drums were kept at special drum-sanctuaries throughout the country and were brought out for special ceremonies only. One such place is in Gitega, location of the ibwami royal court.
See Coronations in Africa, Emperor Bokassa, Central African Empire.
The jewels were largely provided by the emperor's political allies in France as part of that country's infamous Francafrique policy, much to the chagrin of many progressive elements both within and without the empire. Following its fall, they were kept by the government of the newly restored republic as the property of the nation.
The Imperial crown jewels of Iran (also known as the Imperial crown jewels of Persia) include several elaborate crowns and decorative thrones, thirty tiaras, and numerous aigrettes, a dozen bejewelled swords and shields, a vast number of unset precious gems, numerous plates and other dining services cast in precious metals and encrusted with gems, and several other more unusual items (such as a gemstone globe) collected by the Iranian monarchy during its 2,500-year existence. The collection is housed at The Treasury of National Jewels (the official name) but is known colloquially as the Jewelry Museum. It is situated inside the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran on Tehran's Ferdowsi Avenue. The Imperial crown jewels of Iran is the largest jewelry collection in the world. The museum is open to the public from 14:00 to 17:00 hrs except on Thursday and Friday. The museum has onsite guides with knowledge of Persian, English, French and Russian languages. There are also guide booklets available in English, Persian, French, Russian, German, Japanese and Arabic.
I watch you sleeping, well you ain't keeping no secrets from me
I know where you wanna be
you're always keeping warm in my burgundy bed
and I'm in my nervous head
You insult my intelligence, when you tell me he's just a friend
and now I can't sleep
'Cause I know I can't compete
not with Niko, he's a painter, he's so zen
You're always fishing, wishing i'd come and hug a tree
but i need to feel concrete.
Now don't go thinking just 'cause i run like a rat in a maze
that my heart ain't in the right place
It's a bad situation, a hazard of my occupation
I got no time for peace
So I know I can't compete, I ain't complete
not like Niko, he's a painter, he's so zen
I can't compete, I know I can't compete
not with Niko, no no
She told me it was pretty, she was glad to make its acquaintence
My siamese cat sat on her linoleum floor.
She gave me the opal for my crown, I couldn't believe it was tuesday
Everything dragged like the day before.
She brought me in to her little shop of hormones, I bought a t-shirt.
In a paper cup i drank all her sunburn, immagration don't take her back.
Strawberryvelvetfiftycentshoes
she could dress like a saint if she wanted to
shine like an emerald next to the moon
she could wear anything, she could wear anything.
She's chic in jackie o glasses, she pray to Rhinestone Elvis
she lay me down on the patio floor.
Then we went down to the krispy kreme in the burnt october sienna
it's all a working class clown on a tuesday night can afford
She got sad , I took her to a movie, Johnny Depp and Brando
in my heart there's a valley and a shivering sun, I'm in love but I'm no Don Juan
Strawberryvelvetfiftycentshoes
she mix stripes and plaids when she just can't choose
ninety delusions and ten percent truth
she could wear anything, she could wear anything
I shiver in the sun, 'cause she could be the one
Strawberryvelvetfiftycentshoes
God the girl can't sing but she's so in tune
shine like an emerald next to the moon
she could wear anything
Strawberryvelvetfitycentshoes
she would paper-mache if she had the news
ninety delusions and ten percent truth
I watch you sleeping, well you ain't keeping no secrets from me
I know where you wanna be

You insult my intelligence, when you tell me he's just a friend

Deserted on friday after noon
last words hung in the air
like faint perfume
On the night before sunday
all through the flat
not a conscience was stirring
just roaches and rats
and the wallpaper clung to
the kitchen with grease
while the magnets held her
picture to the 'fridgerator-freezer
momma's cookin' chicken and
I'm not chokin' on a wishbone
overblown ego's in checkmate
sore loser, using what the gods gave out
Lovers on earth can't understand
I don't fit their universal plan
I've been to the stars and back again
Send me no sympathy
I'm staying down
deep in my solitude
where i can drown
on a hot summer sunday
and here in the park
I'm laughin' on grass
without a guitar
and the girl's in brooklyn
hugging all the trees
in a backyard garden
I'll never get to see
Lovers on earth can't understand...
Ln a hot summer sunday
and here in the park
I'm laughin' on grass
without a guitar
Lovers on earth can't understand
I don't fit their universal plan
I've been to the stars and back again
If you're in bed listening to this song
you can be sure nothing's gonna go wrong.
If there's peace on Earth, peace
peace on Earth, peace.
And to all a good night and to all a good night
She says she only looks at boys who look like me, am I supposed to feel good?
She says she's only touched by boys who feel like me, the kind who make her feel understood
and when I leave her home she's having parties in my head
While I'm in some hotel room in the midwest with a book I've already read
Should I trust you in your heart shaped glasses?
Should I look the other way?
I can't laugh until this feeling passes, stare my fears in the face talk me down
Living here in this town you hear stories that make it hard to sleep.
Promises of fifteen years are broken in five minutes on a strangers sheets I just want to buy my girl some quiet, a place in nyack.
But tonite I'm working four sets at the black thorn breaking my back
Should I trust you in your heart shaped glasses?
Should I look the other way?
I can't laugh until this feeling passes, stare my fears in the face talk me down
'Cause I don't wanna believe, the love in your eyes ain't just for me.
Woman I gotta be the only one privy to your arms
Should I trust you in your heart shaped glasses?
Should I look the other way?
I can't laugh until this feeling passes, stare my fears in the face
Wont you help me?
Woke up at six a.m.
infomercial screaming at me.
I sat up in my clothes again
with everything still dreaming at me.
I've got to stop this ritual
of getting drunk and dodging ghosts.
Forgive me, my sordid whims
I always hurt the ones who love me most.
This could be my last confession.
I was talking high, searching low
for the answer in disguise.
With a smile that was hurting so
I kept myself anesthetized.
Everybody's weak somewhere and
man I ain't too proud to share.
I'm right here, right or wrong
I got no halo, you knew this all along
And you come with your blind justice
I trust you more than I trust myself
This could be my last confession, kiss the wasted days goodbye
This could be my last confession, you could be the reason why
This could be
'Cause I'm sick of walking these dirty streets looking to cop
And I'm sick of looking at jails and judges and cops
And I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired of hearing myself complain
This could be my last confession, kiss the wasted days goodbye
This could be my last confession, you could be the reason why
I'm in love with the toughest girl in the neighborhood
everytime i see her, I get afraid.
'Cause she treats me just like your average savior would
she don't give up her power, she always brings me flowers.
We walk down 3rd street, hell's angels all marvel at her
and everytime she looks right through them,
she does me right, she knows what matters
and she proceeds to knock me out.
I'm in love with the toughest girl in the neighborhood
underneath her cover, it's heavenly.
And she holds me just like a baby's momma would
she stripped me of my power in the first half hour.
She grew up catching fireflies
and i beleive it's the same with guys
cause when I stand before her eyes
I am captured
she's my cleopatra jones.
Going out with the toughest girl in the neighborhood.
