Travel video about destination Russia. Russia is a country full of adventure, culture and vast distances. A continent, a multi-ethnic country and a vast land unites both Europe and Asia. Moscow is the capital of Russia and the largest city in Europe in which both Tsar rule and soviet communism gave the city its present appearance. The Kremlin is located on a forty metre high hill above the Moskva River and beyond its protective walls are numerous buildings, palaces, towers, squares and churches. The city’s history began with the construction of the Kremlin which lay at the very heart of the city and was for centuries Russia’s spiritual and political centre. A fascinating cruise travels across numerous rivers, canals and lakes within the heart of the former Tsar’s realm, past monasteries and timber built churches. In Uglič the Dimitrijvskaija Church is crowned with blue, onion-shaped domes that are adorned with stars. The red colour of the church is a symbol of bloodshed and the incidents that once occurred at this place of death gave rise to a time of confusion. St. Petersburg, known also as the Venice Of The North, contains splendid buildings such as the Winter Palace and the Eremitage. Twenty four thousand tree stumps were used for the foundation of Isaaks Cathedral that can accommodate a congregation of fourteen thousand. In Port Baikal is the modern Circum-Baikal train that takes a full day to travel around Lake Baikal and is one of the most difficult sections of the Trans-Siberian Railroad that travels from Moscow to as far as Vladivostok. Russia is huge and its nature, culture, immense contrast and dramatic history have formed the fascinating and colourful Russian soul.
Travel video about destination Moskva in Russia. Moscow is the capital of Russia and the largest city in Europe. Both Tsar rule and soviet communism gave the city its present appearance. It has witnessed much change and has become a prosperous city and one of contrast and the superlative, of millionaires and also the very poor. Vasiliya Blazhennovo Khram, Basilius Cathedral, is one of the main landmarks of the Russian metropolis and was built at the command of Moscow sovereign, Ivan The Fourth, also known as Ivan The Terrible, Russia’s first Tsar. The cathedral is representative of Moscow’s architecture with red brick monuments and an accumulation of onion-shaped towers. The Kremlin extends beyond a red wall and various towers that date back to the fifteenth century. Since time immemorial it has been the seat of both tsars and bishops and in front of its walls is Red Square that was once used as a marketplace and also a place of execution. Here the death penalty was declared and immediately carried out. Arbatskaya is a city district west of the Kremlin. In the fifteenth century, the craftsmen and servants of the Tsar lived there and then followed artists, intellectuals and aristocrats. In 1935 the Metro was inaugurated and had thirteen stations. Today there are more than a hundred located along two hundred and sixty kilometres of rail, used by millions each and every day. The Moscow Underground is fast, cheap and quite splendid. Its stations are veritable works of art! When the Tsar’s empire vanished, the realm of the Communist rulers was torn apart. But the mega metropolis of Moscow managed to survive. A restless and powerful city of fantastic culture and truly dramatic history.

Check Our Website : http://www.travels1001nights.com Moscow (/ˈmɒskaʊ/ or /ˈmɒskoʊ/; Russian: Москва, tr. Moskva, IPA: [mɐˈskva] ( listen)) is the capital city and the most populous federal subject of Russia. The city is a major political, economic, cultural and scientific center in Russia and in Eastern Europe. According to Forbes 2013,[14] Moscow has the largest number of billionaire residents in the world. Moscow is the northernmost megacity on Earth, the second most populous city in Europe after Istanbul[15][16][17] and the 6th largest city proper in the world. It is the largest city in Russia, with a population, according to the 2010 Census, of 11,503,501.[8] By its territorial expansion on July 1, 2012 southwest into the Moscow Oblast, the capital increased its area 2.5 times; from about 1,000 square kilometers (390 sq mi) up to 2,511 square kilometers (970 sq mi), and gained an additional population of 233,000 people.[18][19] Moscow is situated on the Moskva River in the Central Federal District of European Russia making it the world's most populated inland city. It also has the largest forest area within its borders—more than any other major city—even before its expansion in 2012. In the course of its history the city has served as the capital of a progression of states, from the medieval Grand Duchy of Moscow and the subsequent Tsardom of Russia to the Soviet Union. Moscow is the site of the Moscow Kremlin, a medieval city-fortress that is today the residence of the Russian president. The Moscow Kremlin is also one of several World Heritage Sites in the city. Both chambers of the Russian parliament (the State Duma and the Federation Council) also sit in Moscow. The city is served by an extensive transit network, which includes four international airports, nine railway terminals, and one of the deepest underground metro systems in the world, the Moscow Metro, second to the Seoul in terms of passenger numbers. It is recognized as one of the city's landmarks due to the rich and varied architecture of its 194 stations. Over time, Moscow has acquired a number of epithets, most referring to its size and preeminent status within the nation: The Third Rome (Третий Рим), The Whitestone One (Белокаменная), The First Throne (Первопрестольная), The Forty Forties (Сорок Сороков), and The Hero City (город-герой). In old Russian the word "Сорок" (forty) also meant a church administrative district, which consisted of about forty churches. The demonym for a Moscow resident is "москвич" (moskvich), rendered in English as Muscovite. Take a tour of St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow, Russian Federation -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats. It looks more like a cluster of brightly colored hot air balloons than a cathedral. This is St. Basil's, or the "Cathedral of the Intercession of the Virgin By the Moat". This flamboyantly shaped and colored building is one of Russia's most important churches. The cathedral was started in 1555 as eight chapels built around a larger ninth. There have been several theories about the design of St. Basil's, but no certain answers. The cathedral has had several additions, and the whole church narrowly escaped destruction under Stalin. St. Basil's is no longer a church, it now operates as a museum.

Take a tour of Omsk Dormition Cathedral in Omsk, Russia -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats. A striking feature of the city of Omsk, in southern Russia, is the grand and colorful Dormition Cathedral. This structure boasts a gleaming white exterior and shiny blue and gold domes, typical of Russian architecture. These features add to the majesty of the cathedral as both a place of worship and historical monument. The original Dormition Cathedral was built in the late nineteenth century, designed in the Russian Revival Style. Fortunately, the Omsk Dormition Cathedral was recently rebuilt, to forever regain its beauty and history.
Take a tour of Qolsharif Mosque in Russia -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats. The Qolsharif Mosque in Russia, though undoubtedly modern, has deep historical ties to the past. The current building, found in Kazan Kremlin, was started in 1996 and inaugurated in 2005. However, the mosque was rebuilt after an ancient mosque of the same name from the 1500s. This mosque was supposedly the biggest in Russia at the time of its construction. Its appearance is uncertain because it was destroyed in 1552 by Ivan the Terrible. The new Qolsharif Mosque attempts to mirror the old, and, in doing so, has created a beautiful building.

All episodes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USUA_1WVM8I&index;=1&list;=PLwGzY25TNHPBfaoOR3pXw3VyBvmXljeio Star Media and Babich Design proudly present a spectacular new television series commemorating the 400th anniversary of the foundation of the Russian Imperial dynasty. The election of sixteen-year-old Mikhail I Fyodorovich Romanov to the Russian throne in 1613 marked the beginning of a dynasty which was to rule Russia and, from 1721, the Russian Empire for over 300 years. The most vivid pages of Russian history and the establishment and consolidation of Russian state power are associated with the eighteen Russian Tsars of the House of Romanov which include such historic names as Peter the Great, Catherine the Great, Nicholas I and Alexanders I, II and III. The dynasty ended with the brutal assassination of the last Tsar, Nicholas II and his family by the Bolsheviks in Ekaterinburg in 1917. The Romanov dynasty played a hugely important role in world history, and the series highlights the life stories and characters of the tsars, recounting their rise to power and their contribution to the dynasty, their merits and their faults, their achievements and mistakes, their victories and defeats in war. The series also examines the Russian form of 'Caesarism' as a system of state administration - its advantages and drawbacks and how the Russian state changed under the Romanov's rule. THE ROMANOVS is told in eight epic one-hour episodes using a unique combination of magnificent CGI animation and dramatic reconstruction with careful and accurate attention paid to each period. Thanks to Dr Nicole J Jackson, Associate Professor at Simon Fraser University's School for International Studies, we had a unique opportunity to attend a lecture on Russian Imperialism presented by Prof. Andrzej Nowak, a world-renowned expert on this topic. The topic of Russian Imperialism is currently particularly relevant in the context of Russian occupation of Crimea and invasion of Eastern Ukraine. In this lecture, Prof. Andrzej Nowak introduces the Russian imperial tradition and KGB background of Russian contemporary elite as the framework for understanding Russia's goals and methods. He then presents the internal and external pressures facing Russia, and strategic importance of Ukraine in building 'Russkiy Mir', overcoming demographic crisis and expanding Russia's influence. Prof. Nowak cites Zbigniew Brzezinski, emphasizing that 'without Ukraine Russia ceases to be an empire'. Prof. Nowak then presents the economic, military and ideological tools that Russia utilizes to pursue its expansionist goals in Europe. The key question is then how to effectively fight back. In this lecture, Prof. Nowak provides some valuable insights that each of us needs to be aware of.
The University of Oslo and the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs, NUPI, have the pleasure of inviting you to a seminar with Professor Emil Pain: Russia’s imperial legacy and its impact on Russian nationalism: the Phenomenon of ‘Imperial Nationalism’ What is the impact of Russia's imperial legacy on the development of Russian nationalism? And what are the current political perspectives of Russian nationalism? Professor Pain argues that a combination of imperial consciousness and Russian nationalism has stimulated the emergence a peculiar form of ‘imperial nationalism’ in Russia. In the lecture, he will explore the history and current standing of this strand of nationalism, as well as the emergence of a new, anti-imperial nationalism in the early 2000s, and discuss current trends and perspectives within this field. Emil Pain is the Director of the Centre for Ethno-Political and Regional Studies, Moscow, and Professors at the National Research University – Higher School of Economics, Moscow, and is considered one of Russia’s leading experts on ethno-political processes, nationality policy and ethnic conflict. Chair: Professor Pål Kolstø , University of Oslo. The seminar is part of the ‘New Russian Nationalism’ seminar series, a series of quarterly presentations on various aspects of Russian nationalism, and part of the research project ‘‘Nation-building, nationalism and the new “other” in today’s Russia’, day’s Russia’, a joint project between NUPI and the University of Oslo funded by the Research Council of Norway under the NORRUSS programme. Not the official flag but I like it --- "God Save the Tsar!" (Russian: Боже, Царя храни!; transliteration: Bozhe, Tsarya khrani!) was the national anthem of the late Russian Empire. The song was chosen from a competition held in 1833. The composer was violinist Alexei Lvov, and the lyrics were by the court poet Vasily Zhukovsky. It was the anthem until the Russian Revolution of 1917, after which "Worker's Marseillaise" was adopted as the new national anthem until the overthrow of the Russian Provisional Government.

Joshua Sanborn gives a lecture based on his recently published book, Imperial Apocalypse: The Great War and the Destruction of the Russian Empire. He discusses the ways that military operations and martial law transformed social and political life in Russia, first in the borderlands and then in the empire as a whole. He suggests that the war produced a crisis of decolonization, complete with manifestations of state failure, social collapse, and, eventually, claims for national independence.
