The Middle East or Mideast is a region that encompasses Western Asia and all of or part of Northern Africa, depending on the context. The term is considered to be Eurocentric and used as a synonym for Near East, in opposition to Far East. The corresponding adjective is Middle-Eastern and the derived noun is Middle-Easterner.
The history of the Middle East dates back to ancient times, and throughout its history, the Middle East has been a major centre of world affairs. When discussing ancient history, however, the term Near East is more commonly used. The Middle East is also the historical origin of major religions such as Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The Middle East generally has an arid and hot climate, with several major rivers providing for irrigation to support agriculture in limited areas. Many countries located around the Persian Gulf have large quantities of crude oil. In modern times the Middle East remains a strategically, economically, politically, culturally and religiously sensitive region.[clarification needed] The Middle East's expected economic growth rate is at about 4.1% for 2010 and 5.1% in 2011.

The Middle East Institute and the Arab American Institute were pleased to host a panel discussion about a new poll released by Zogby Research Services. Conducted in eight Middle East and North Africa countries, the poll titled "Today's Middle East: Pressures & Challenges," surveyed regional attitudes on the emergence of ISIS, the role of the Muslim Brotherhood, the growth of sectarianism, the future of Syria and Iraq, Iran's nuclear program, and more. While the poll confirmed many prevailing assumptions about regional outlooks, it revealed some surprising shifts in public opinion. A key finding is that despite deep regional antipathy towards

The rise of ISIS, the disintegration of Iraq, Syria’s ongoing civil war, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the promise and peril of the Arab Spring... What role should America play in the Middle East? For some, America’s restraint has been a sign of disciplined leadership. But for others, it has been a sign of diminished strength and influence. How do we strike a balance between our national interests, moral obligations, and the maintenance of world order? Are we simply recognizing the limitations of our power, or does this embattled region require a bolder, more muscular, American presence?

Rearming Iraq: The New Arms Race in the Middle East
As violence escalates across the Middle East and North Africa, the United States remains the largest exporter of weapons to the region, and private US defense companies and contractors have opened local offices as the demand shows no sign of abating.
VICE News traveled to this year's International Defense Exhibition and Conference in the United Arab Emirates capital of Abu Dhabi to examine the competition between arms manufacturers vying for a greater portion of the lucrative market.
From Abu Dhabi we traveled to Iraq, where US weapons have fallen into the hands of non-state actors such as the so-called Islamic State militant group, Kurdish Peshmerga, and militias aligned with the Iraqi government. Rather than block sales, the US government and others actively promote them — ensuring there will be enough arms to fuel the region's wars and revolts for years to come.

Global Fraud Propping up System, Middle East Fighting, No Economic Recovery
UBS is a whistleblower in a new case coming up, and this time, it involves some of the same big banks that just plead guilty to Forex and LIBOR market rigging. Now, new allegations of price rigging in the precious metals market looks like they will be coming to some more big banks. That’s right, gold and silver prices are being rigged and the Justice Department is probably going to fine more bankers. Lets’ see, interest rates have been rigged, currency markets have been rigged and precious metals markets are being rigged. Are you getting the picture of how dire it must be that all markets are rigged in some way? This past week Rob Kirby said, “The markets are a crime scene.” This is not an exaggeration.
It looks like a crisis has been averted off the coast of Yemen. Iran has agreed to UN inspections of a cargo ship carrying humanitarian aid to Yemen. Iraq is not that lucky. Ramadi has fallen to ISIS. So has the ancient city of Palmyra in Syria. With these defeats, ISIS gets new equipment and tanks as they are abandoned by retreating Iraq forces.
In the latest “there is no recovery” news, look no further than the Federal Reserve. In last month’s Fed meeting, policymakers said they would not raise interest rates in June. According to USA Today it is because of “the economy’s recent sluggish performance.” There is NO RECOVERY and the Fed knows it.
Join Greg Hunter as he talks about these stories and more in the Weekly News Wrap-Up.

In the 14th century a Muslim historian named Ibn Khaldun wrote about the pattern of history. Farmers would build irrigation systems supporting villages and towns. Later some warrior would bring these towns under his rule and form a united political entity, like a kingdom or an empire. Then a tribe of nomads would come along and conquer the kingdom, seize all the holdings and settle in their place and further expand the new empire. As time went by the nomads would assimilate and become soft city dwellers. Exactly the kind of people they had conquered and at this point another tribe of nomads would come along and conquer them and take their empire. Conquest, consolidation, expansion, degeneration and conquest, this was the pattern of history.

Today's Middle East: A Snapshot of Regional Attitudes
A key finding is that despite deep regional antipathy towards ISIS, there is popular opposition to any Western-led intervention and extremely low support for U.S. policies - two factors which may become a significant challenge to the efficacy of the current U.S.-led military campaign against the group.
The poll was conducted in November 2014 by Zogby Research Services for the Sir Bani Yas Forum, an annual event co-hosted by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), and surveyed over 7,500 adults across eight countries.

The Middle East, already the world’s most volatile region, faces some of its toughest challenges in a century: Borders have been redrawn in Syria and Iraq. States from Libya to Yemen are collapsing. Autocracy is again on the rise in Egypt. And diplomacy is teetering with Iran. Meanwhile, the United States is being sucked back into the region. Come hear four top experts explore the crises of 2015, the stakes, and where they’re headed.

Flexing America's Muscles In The Middle East Will Make Things Worse
The rise of ISIS, the disintegration of Iraq, Syria’s ongoing civil war, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the promise and peril of the Arab Spring... What role should America play in the Middle East? For some, America’s restraint has been a sign of disciplined leadership. But for others, it has been a sign of diminished strength and influence. How do we strike a balance between our national interests, moral obligations, and the maintenance of world order? Are we simply recognizing the limitations of our power, or does this embattled region require a bolder, more muscular, American presence?

According to a monitoring group and local activists, ISIS did gain some new ground in Syria early Friday, seizing an eastern oil field as they try to consolidate their control of an area along the length of the Euphrates river stretching through Syria and Iraq.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the ISIS fighters seized the al-Tanak oil field. Another group, the activist collective of Deir el-Zour, also reported the seizure.
The field is in the eastern Syrian province of Deir el-Zour, near Iraq, and it followed ISIS' seizure of Syria's largest oil field on Thursday. Both oil fields were taken from other rebel groups.
ISIS now has nearly full control over a corridor from the Syrian provincial capital of Deir el-Zour to the border town of Boukamal. The area neighbors parts of northern and western Iraq that it seized last month, allowing the group to flow freely between the two countries.
The group is led by an ambitious Iraqi militant known as Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, who this week declared the establishment of an Islamic state, or caliphate, in the lands it has seized in Syria and Iraq. The claim has been dismissed by officials in the region and, notably, also by many other jihadist leaders.

“What has until now been an unacknowledged proxy war between Iran and Saudi Arabia, the two great powers of the Middle East, has now burst into an open confrontation that appears to be escalating rapidly as other countries and players are sucked in. The primary Saudi aim is to pacify Yemen, but its wider objective is to send a powerful message to Iran: stop meddling in Arab affairs.”

In this year of our 60th anniversary, we take special note of those, like Adam, who got their start in this field at the Foreign Policy Research Institute. Adam went on to serve on the staff of the US National Security Commission/21st Century, then as principal speechwriter to the Secretary of State (Colin Powell). He has also been editor of The National Interest magazine and is now editor of The American Interest magazine, both significant sources of analysis and understanding of American foreign policy choices today. He received his Ph.D. in international relations from the University of Pennsylvania and serves on FPRI's Board of Advisors.

Gerald Celente discusses his surprise that a global economic collapse has been postponed this long. We no longer have free market capitalism. We have huge government interference and politicians collaborate with bankers. Who would have believed (in a true free market) that the public would accept negative bond yields? It is an admission of fear – that investors (even if most are governments) will accept a negative rate of return rather than risking investment in treacherous markets?
Celente is a highly successful economic forecaster argues that the markets are rigged, and tha

The Case of Iraq
6. november 2014
Background
Since the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in August 1990 the State has been the scene of international invasions and diplomacy. Sanctions were imposed on Iraq by the United Nations four days after Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait on 2 August 1990. They were lifted two months after the US led coalition of the willing had invaded Iraq on 19 March 2003. The war was legitimized in the claim of Iraq in possession of Weapons of Mass Destruction, in cooperation between Iraq and al-Qaeda and in the claim, that Iraq was a severe treat to world peace. The aim was to create a stable and demo

There Will Be War In The Middle East World War III
There Will Be War In The Middle East - World War III
The military action that we are watching in the Middle East right now is just a preview of coming attractions. Tensions in the region are rising with each passing day, and all sides have been anticipating future conflicts and preparing for war for decades. It would be wonderful if everyone could sit down, forgive each other and agree to quit fighting, but that is not going to happen. Most of us that live in the western world have a very difficult time understanding the mindset of those immersed in these conflicts. In the Middle East, there are vendettas and grudges that go back literally thousands of years. Children are raised in schools where they are taught to bitterly hate their enemies from the time that they are first able to speak. As Americans, we have forgiven former enemies such as Germany and Japan and we just expect that everyone else should be able to forgive as well. But that is simply not the way that it works over there, and there is no long-term solution in the Middle East that is going to be acceptable to all sides. Right now, Israel, Hamas, Hezbollah, the Muslim Brotherhood, Syria and Iran are all preparing for war. Hopefully cooler heads will prevail in this current crisis, but that will only delay the inevitable. There will be war in the Middle East. Yes, politicians such as Barack Obama will do their best to broker more “peace agreements”, but even the declaration of a “Palestinian state” will never stop the fighting. In fact, it would just set the stage for more war. I don’t mean to sound pessimistic about the region, but the truth is that there will be more war until it is not possible to fight any longer. Any “peace plan” will just be a pause in the warfare.
But hopefully the current crisis in the Middle East will not immediately erupt into a full-blown regional war. That would not be good for the global economy. In fact, that would not be good for anyone at all.
Here are some of the most recent developments…
-Hamas has launched dozens of rockets into Israel since Saturday. At one point, the IDF estimated that at least 130 rockets had been fired from Gaza. Other estimates have put the number of rocket attacks much higher.
-In response, the IDF launched a military operation in Gaza on Wednesday. This involved the killing of the head of the military wing of Hamas, Ahmed Jabari, in an airstrike that was captured on video. You can see video of the airstrike right here.
-The IDF also attacked more than 20 underground rocket launchers in Gaza. The goal was to stop them from launching more rockets into Israel. Apparently those rocket launchers were capable of hitting targets 25 miles over the border into Israel.
-In response to the Wednesday attacks by the IDF, a substantial number of rockets were fired from Gaza toward Israel. The IDF says that the Iron Dome missile defense system was able to intercept 13 of the rockets.
-The IDF says that the military operations they conducted on Wednesday were part of a “major offensive” and that a ground attack may also be coming.
-“Operation Pillar of Defense” is the code name that has been given to this campaign.
-The IDF is not taking any options off the table. The following is from a message posted on the IDF Twitter account…
“All options are on the table. If necessary, the IDF is ready to initiate a ground operation in Gaza.”
-In particular, the IDF is being very open about the fact that top Hamas leaders will be targeted. The following is from another message posted on the IDF Twitter account…
“We recommend that no Hamas operatives, whether low level or senior leaders, show their faces above ground in the days ahead.”
-The U.S. State Department has denounced Hamas for the rocket attacks against Israel and is saying that Israel has the right to self-defense.
-The military wing of Hamas says that Israel “has opened the gates of hell.”
-One top Hamas official, Khalil al-Haya, is very clear about what his goal is…
“The battle between us and the occupation is open and it will end only with the liberation of Palestine and Jerusalem”
–Islamic Jihad has released a statement that is very critical of the IDF attack on Wednesday…
“Israel has declared war on Gaza and they will bear the responsibility for the consequences.”
In Egypt, the head of the most important political party is warning that Egypt may have to get involved if the fighting continues. The following is from a Breitbart report…

Gerald Celente - War and Economic Collapse in the middle east
Gerald Celente - War and Economic Collapse in the middle east
Gerald Celente discusses his surprise that a global economic collapse has been postponed this long. We no longer have free market capitalism. We have huge government interference and politicians collaborate with bankers. Who would have believed (in a true free market) that the public would accept negative bond yields? It is an admission of fear – that investors (even if most are governments) will accept a negative rate of return rather than risking investment in treacherous markets?
Celente is a highly successful economic forecaster argues that the markets are rigged, and that short-term greed has made unsustainable bubbles so large that likely conclusions are systemic collapse, war, hyperinflation, much higher gold and silver values, and the loss of the dollar as world reserve currency – which means an overnight cut in its purchasing power, possibly over 50% in one shot, then more.
I’m not excited by his off topic anti-Israel rant in the second video, but I guess when you get angry about world leaders whose actions will destroy the best progress mankind ever made – you might cast the “blame net” far and wide. Even so, Celente does well forecasting economics and his monetary points are valid.
“History shows time and again that those who prepare always fare better than those who did not. Having a plan and being determined to act on that plan will always be the best way to handle any contingencies, should they occur. After disaster strikes, your mind is going to be racing around like a car on a race track. Preplanning and having a written set of measures to take will make someone’s life go much smoother when the SHTF.” (article HERE)
Compare events in the Middle East and America with the Book of Revelation. Since massive debt accumulation makes financial collapse VERY likely (and many economic pundits and Bible prophecy authors point to a time around September 2015) maybe we should expect chaos, hyperinflation, martial law, dictatorship, and the fulfillment of end times prophecy

Arab Supercar Invasion [ impoted from MIDDLE EAST ]
UN and Middle East Policy
The aim was to create a stable and democratic Iraq, but it did not succeed.
How can the role of the UN be seen in this story and how can we understand the current situation in Iraq in light of the history from 1990?
Speaker
Hans von Sponeck is former UN Assistant Secretary General & UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Iraq, Baghdad (1998-2000). Honorary Doctorate, University of Marburg (2010). Assignments with United Nations / UNDP 1968-2000). Rearming Iraq: The New Arms Race in the Middle East

The Middle East Problem
The Middle East Problem
The Middle East conflict is framed as one of the most complex problems in the world. But, in reality, it's very simple. Israelis want to live in peace and are willing to accept a neighboring Palestinian state. And most Palestinians do not want Israel to exist. As Dennis Prager explains, this is really all you need to know. In 5 minutes, understand how Israel was founded, and how, since that auspicious day in 1948, its neighbors have tried to destroy it, again and again.

Global Fraud Propping up System, Middle East Fighting, No Economic Recovery

Pre-Islamic history of the Middle East
Pre-Islamic history of the Middle East

Today's Middle East: A Snapshot of Regional Attitudes
Today's Middle East: A Snapshot of Regional Attitudes

Richest People of Middle East - Richest Person In The World 2014
The Middle East is a place that is rife with billionaires. After all, oil and gas are abundant in the region, thereby allowing its owners to purchase the most expensive gadgets, the most rare exotic car, and just about any costly toy that catches their fancy. And they have got it made until practically the next generation, as their current reserves are enough to last them for the next several decades even if no new oil field is discovered.
But who exactly are the people who have earned the most money? Below is a list of the top ten richest people in the Middle East.
1. His Royal Highness Prince Al Waleed – $21.3 billion
2. Mohamed Bin Issa Al Jaber – $12.75 billion
3. Lubna Suliman Olayan – $11.9 billion
4. Issam Alzahid – $10.7 billion
5. Mohammed Al Amoudi – $10.4 billion

Ron Paul: What US does now in Middle East will increase violence
On this episode of Breaking the Set, Abby Martin speaks with former Congressman and three-time presidential candidate Ron Paul, discussing his views on the ramifications of expanding the war against ISIS into Syria, how US foreign policy has exacerbated the growth of Islamic extremism, the hypocritical partnership with Saudi Arabia, and the marginalization of alternative views outside of the two party system.

This feature-length documentary Blood and Oil: The Middle East in World War I exposes the Western greed and political intrigue which laid the foundation for wars, coups, revolts, oppressive dictators and military interventions in today's Middle East. Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, modern Turkey and other hot spots are born as the British and French divide the "fruits of victory" in World War I. Written and produced by Marty Callaghan, this film follows conflict from the Ottoman Empire's entry into the Great War in October 1914 to the Allied victory and declaration of the new Turkish Republic in 1923, and the hostilities that have plagued the region since.

Stan and Arlene Ginsburg Family Foundation Lecture Series
To understand the Middle East, a region riven by conflict, you need an expert "geopolitician" to explain the chessboard -- for example, in finding the balance to our interest in defeating the
Islamic State with our interest in preventing Iran from becoming a nuclear weapons state or in exercising hegemony over the region. Few analysts are better able to explain the sources of conflict or their potential resolution in their larger historical, cultural, and geographical contexts than Adam Garfinkle.

For those who remain - a prayer for the Middle East
Use this short video to intercede for the region. Documentary footage shows a region beset by conflict. But Abraham's prayer of intercession for any who are righteous (Genesis 18) calls us to pray for all in the Middle East who seek to know and serve God today.

There Will Be War In The Middle East World War III
