Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro GOIH (born 5 February 1985), known as Cristiano Ronaldo (Portuguese pronunciation: [kɾɨʃtiˈɐnu ʁuˈnaɫdu]), is a Portuguese professional footballer who plays for Spanish club Real Madrid and the Portugal national team. He is a forward and serves as captain for Portugal. By the age of 22, Ronaldo had received Ballon d'Or and FIFA World Player of the Year nominations. The following year, in 2008, he won his first Ballon d'Or and FIFA World Player of the Year awards. He followed this up by winning the FIFA Ballon d'Or in 2013 and 2014. In September 2015, Ronaldo scored his 500th senior career goal for club and country.
Often ranked as the best player in the world and rated by some in the sport as the greatest of all time, Ronaldo is the first Portuguese footballer to win three FIFA/Ballons d'Or, and the first player to win four European Golden Shoe awards. In January 2015, Ronaldo was named the best Portuguese player of all time by the Portuguese Football Federation, during its 100th anniversary celebrations. With Manchester United and Real Madrid, he has won three Premier Leagues, one La Liga, one FA Cup, two Football League Cups, two Copas del Rey, one FA Community Shield, one Supercopas de España, two UEFA Champions League, one UEFA Super Cup and two FIFA Club World Cups.
Ronaldo began his career as a youth player for Andorinha, where he played for two years, before moving to C.D. Nacional. In 1997, he moved to Sporting CP. In 2003 he signed for Manchester United for £12.2 million (€15 million). In 2004, he won his first trophy, the FA Cup. In 2007 and 2008, Ronaldo was named FWA Footballer of the Year, and was named the 2008 FIFA World Player of the Year. In 2009 he won the FIFA Puskás Award for Goal of the Year. He became the world's most expensive player when he moved from Manchester United to Real Madrid in 2009 in a transfer worth £80 million (€94 million/$132 million). His buyout clause is valued at €1 billion. In May 2012, he became the first footballer to score against every team in a single season in La Liga. Ronaldo holds the record for most goals scored in a single UEFA Champions League season, having scored 17 goals in the 2013–14 season. In December 2014, Ronaldo became the fastest player to score 200 goals in La Liga, which he accomplished in his 178th La Liga game. He is the only player in the history of football to score 50 or more goals in a season on five consecutive occasions. In September 2015, he became the all-time top goalscorer in the UEFA Champions League with 82 goals, and matched Raúl's record of 323 goals to become Real Madrid's joint all-time top goalscorer.
Ronaldo made his international debut for Portugal in August 2003, at the age of 18. He has since been capped over 100 times and has participated in 6 major tournaments: three UEFA European Championships (2004, 2008 and 2012) and three FIFA World Cups (2006, 2010 and 2014). Ronaldo is the first Portuguese player to reach 50 international goals, making him Portugal's top goalscorer of all time as well as the country's top scorer in the European Championship with 6 goals. He scored his first international goal in the opening game of Euro 2004 against Greece, and helped Portugal reach the final. He took over captaincy in July 2008, and he led Portugal to the semi-finals at Euro 2012, finishing the competition as joint-top scorer in the process. In November 2014, Ronaldo became the all-time top scorer in the UEFA European Championship (including qualifying) with 23 goals.

In this brief video you can find seven little known facts about Portugal.
More information about the video content bellow:
1. Portuguese is spoken by the 10 million inhabitants of Portugal….and also by 230 million others all around the world. In fact, Portuguese is the official language of 9 countries and is the 6th most used language online.
2. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, and perhaps contrary to popular belief, S.L. Benfica is the world’s most widely supported football club, with 160,398 paid-up members. The record was acknowledged on 9 November 2006 during the celebrations for Guinness World Records Day.
3. In 1808, when the Portuguese Royal Court transferred itself from Portugal to Brazil, Rio de Janeiro became the chosen seat of the court of Queen Maria I of Portugal, who subsequently, in 1815, under the leadership of her son, the Prince Regent, and future King João VI of Portugal, raised Brazil to the dignity of a kingdom, within the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil, and Algarves. Rio stayed the capital of the pluricontinental lusitanian monarchy until 1822, when the War of Brazilian Independence began.
4. Portugal’s capital city Lisbon was hit by a devastating earthquake in 1755 (9.0 magnitude), which caused a tsunami soon after. In a cruel coincidence, the quake shook the city on All Saint’s Day when the churches were full of burning candles, which caused major fires to break out. 275,000 people were killed and 85% of Lisbon’s buildings were destroyed.
5. Portugal and England have the oldest diplomatic alliance in the world. The Anglo-Portuguese Alliance was signed in 1373 and is in force until this day! Both countries entered wars to defend the other, including the United Kingdom entering the Iberian Peninsular War and Portugal entering World War I.
6. In 711 the Umayyad Muslims invaded from the south, making Portugal a part of its Caliphate for well over 5 centuries (711 AD - 1249 AD). This situation was turned around two centuries later, when the Portuguese Empire became the first global empire in history. In addition, it was the longest-lived of the modern European colonial empires, spanning almost six centuries, from the capture of Ceuta in 1415 to the handover of Macau in 1999 or the grant of sovereignty to East Timor in 2002.
7. Beneath the streets of Lisbon's downtown shopping area lies a hidden Roman Underworld with chambers, rooms, bridges and corridors. The entrance to this fascinating world is marked by a block of metal at the top of Rua da Conceicao which is only open to the public two days a year due to the dangerous conditions lurking below.

Portugal anthem played by Larysa Smirnoff
The official name of Portugal is the Portuguese Republic.
Portugal is the westernmost country of the European mainland.
The country also holds sovereignty over the Atlantic archipelagos of the Azores and the Madeira Islands.
Portugal has a population of over 10 million people (10,799,270) as of July 2013.
Portugal became the first global maritime power during the 15th & 16th centuries. Pioneering Portuguese explorers such as Henry the Navigator, Vasco da Gama and Álvares Cabral founded new lands and colonies making Portugal a major economic, political and military power, ultimately dividing the world with Spain.
The Portuguese Empire was the longest-lived of the modern European empires and was spread throughout areas that now make up 53 different sovereign states. The legacy of this exploration is that the language of Portuguese is today the 6th most spoken first language in the world with over 240 million speakers.
Over the years Portugal's empire has slowly been broken up, with Brazil gaining independence after the revolution of 1910 and the African colonies of Angola, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe, Timor-Leste, Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau in 1974 and 75. Macau was handed over to China in 1999 and East Timor granted sovereignty in 2002.
Portugal was one of the original member states of the eurozone in 1999, and replaced the Portuguese Escudo with the euro (€) currency at this time.
Lisbon is the capital and largest city of Portugal. It is the oldest city in Western Europe and one of the oldest cities in the world. Lisbon was devastated by a major earthquake in 1755. Although the city was rebuilt within a few years, the quake led to the country losing much of its wealth and status.
Portugal is named after its 2nd largest city, Porto, the Latin name of which was Portus Cale. Porto's city centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the city is also world-renown for being the home of Port wine.
The Vasco da Gama Bridge, over the Tagus River in Lisbon is the largest in Europe at 17.2 km's (10.7 mi).
The cork tree is one of the few native trees still found in Portugal. The various uses of the soft, spongy bark of the cork tree has made the country the largest producer of cork products in the world.
As of 2013, Portugal has 15 sites on the UNESCO World Heritage list, 14 of these cultural sites and 1 of them natural. The country is one of the 20 most visited countries in the world with more than 13 million tourists visiting each year.
Catholic monasteries of the Middle Ages are responsible for the wide range of famous Portuguese pastries today, including: the pastéis de Belém (or pastéis de nata) from Lisbon and ovos moles from Aveiro.
The most popular sport in Portugal is football (soccer), the national team finished 3rd in the 1966 World Cup, 2nd in Euro 2004, and 4th in 2006 World Cup.

Anthem lyrics:
Heroes of the sea, noble people,
Brave and immortal nation,
Raise once again today,
The splendor of Portugal!
Among the haze of memory,
Oh Fatherland, one feels the voice
Of your distinguished forefathers,
That shall lead you to victory!
Chorus:
To arms, to arms!
Over land, over sea,
To arms, to arms!
For the Fatherland, fight!
Against the cannons, march on, march on!

German and Portuguese football fans have started pouring into the western Ukrainian town of Lviv ahead of Saturday's Euro 2012 match between the two countries.
Germany will play Portugal in the city later on Saturday.
Sasha Spitzer and his friends travelled all the way from Hamm in Germany to watch his national team play.
Like many other fans, the 33 year old looked into hotels but due to the exorbitant pricing he chose to stay at a campsite on the outskirts of town.
Spitzer hopes his team might be able to make it all the way to the title this time around.
Across town, Portuguese fans were in high spirits ahead of the match.
Ukraine and Poland are joint hosts of the 2012 European Football Championship, which will run till 1 July.

Portuguese football fans crowded into Lisbon's bullring saw their hopes of Euro 2012 glory dashed as their team crashed out to Spain on penalties, on Wednesday.
The semi-final match finished goalless after extra-time, with Portugal's star player Cristiano Ronaldo failing to make the most of three decent chances.
It was then down to the sudden death drama of the penalty shootout.
Both sides missed with their first efforts, but Iniesta, Gerard Pique and Sergio Ramos all scored for Spain, while Pepe and Nani scored for Portugal.
Bruno Alves hit the bar for Portugal, before Cesc Fabregas broke Portuguese hearts by slotting home the winning spot-kick.
Disappointed fans watching the game said they had hoped that 2012 was Portugal's year.
"I'm a little disappointed, Portugal deserved to go through to the final. It was time for Portugal to win an Euro championship," said Edinir Mota.
Spain will play the winner of Thursday nights match between Italy and Germany in the final.

Delegations from Spain and Portugal arrived at FIFA's headquarters in Zurich on Thursday to make a final joint bid presentation seeking to host the World Cup in 2018.
The joint Iberian bidders took a swipe at the media and jumped to the defence of FIFA against corruption allegations as it wrapped up its low-key campaign to host
the flagship tournament in 2018.
Their bid has relied heavily on the networking skills and clout of bid president Angel Maria Villar to win over his colleagues on the FIFA executive committee.
The 22 committee voters will elect the 2018 and 2022 World Cup hosts, choosing from a total of nine candidates, later on Thursday.
Villar, a FIFA vice president and 12-year veteran of the executive committee, rebutted media allegations of corruption within FIFA in the run-up to the vote.
"FIFA is a clean institution. FIFA works honestly," Villar insisted at the end of the Iberian presentation to FIFA, which ran well over its allotted 30 minutes.
Committee members responded with applause.
The Iberian bid is competing against England, Russia and Belgium-Netherlands for the 2018 tournament.

French football fans went wild with joy at their win against Portugal in Munich on Wednesday.
Zinedine Zidane scored off a penalty and coolly put France into the World Cup final, scoring the only goal to give his team a 1-0 win over Portugal.
The penalty came in the 33rd minute after Ricardo Carvalho was whistled for bringing down Thierry Henry.
Thousands of French fans had watched the match on giant screens just outside the stadium.
"It was a great game, we were much better, it was a really great game," said one.

The French will be making their second appearance in the World Cup final - the other was their famous 3-0 victory at home over Brazil in 1998.
Italy, trying for its fourth title, will be in its sixth final.
Zidane will end his football career in the World Cup final.
And the fact that France made the title game had much to do with the soon-to-retire midfielder.

Cristiano Ronaldo, better known as “The Sultan Of The Stepover” and “Rocket Ronaldo”, is a Portuguese footballer playing for Spanish club Real Madrid C.F as well as the Portugal national team. The legend was born in Santo António, Portugal to Maria Dolores dos Santos Aveiro and José Dinis Aveiro. As a child, Ronaldo went through a lot of hardships due to his family's poor financial background. His second name, “Ronaldo”, came after the then-U.S. president and actor Ronald Reagan, who was his father's favourite.
Ronnie's introduction to soccer came from his father's occupation at a club. The young boy was so addicted to the game that he would miss his homework and meals and jump out of the window with a ball to play. His skills in this beautiful game were highlighted when he was 8 years old and played for team Andorinha. In 2001, Ronaldo became a part of Sporting Portugal followed by a mind-blowing performance against Manchester United. So impressed were the members of Man United that they urged their manager to sign the legend. In 2004, he had said, “I want to be one of the best players around in two or three years' time. I would be very proud if, one day, I'm held in the same esteem as George Best or David Beckham”. Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United manager also said “He’s the one player I’d love to pay money to go and see play. I’m sure Ronaldo is already in the ‘best in the world’ bracket. He’s only 21 and he will get even better”.
During the 2006 FIFA World Cup qualification, Ronaldo was the second highest scorer with seven goals and his first World Cup goal. However, he soon was a victim of a controversy when it was stated that he influenced referee Horacio Elizondo's decision with an aggressive complaint and was spotted winking at the Portuguese bench in replays for Wayne Rooney's dismissal. Ronaldo has been honoured with a host of trophies in his career and a few include FIFA Ballon d'Or, FIFA World Player of the Year, UEFA Euro Team of the Tournament, Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year, PFA Premier League Team of the Year, PFA Young Player of the Year, FWA Footballer of the Year, Barclays Player of the Year, Premier League Golden Boot, European Golden Shoe, UEFA Club Forward of the Year, Ballon d'Or, Onze d'Or,World Soccer Player of the Year, La Liga top scorer, LFP Most Valuable Player, IFFHS World's Best Top Goal Scorer, ESPY Awards Best International Athlete, LFP Best Goal and BBC Overseas Sports Personality of the Year.
Cristiano Ronaldo has been a fabulous player since his commencement into this beautiful game, but his life off field has been quite complicated. After the death of his father due to alcoholism-related liver condition in October 2005, the soccer star was suspected of raping a woman in a London hotel the following month and arrested. Ronaldo denied the allegations and after his bail, he issued a statement saying, “I have always strongly maintained my innocence of any wrong-doing and I am glad that this matter is at an end so that I can concentrate on playing for Manchester United”. Ronaldo is also a father of a son named Cristiano or Cristianinho, but has never publicly revealed the mother's identity.

José Mário dos Santos Félix Mourinho (born January 26, 1963) is a Portuguese football manager currently at Real Madrid. In the United Kingdom it was popularized the nickname of "The Special One". In January 10, 2011, was voted by FIFA the best coach in the world, for the 2010 season.
In 2003, he won the UEFA Cup with Porto and the following year the Champions League. On May 22, 2010, won the champion of the Champions League, with FC Internazionale of Milan. He is the first coach to win twice the National Championship, the National Cup and a European competition, in the 2002-03 season with FC Porto (UEFA Cup) and in 2009-10 season with FC Internazionale of Milan (Champions League).
At Real Madrid Mourinho Mourinho won the Copa del Rey (2011). In 2012 won the Spanish Championship title that has escaped from Real for several years to the Rival Barcelona, and also the Super Cup.
In the 90, Mourinho was at Estrela da Amadora (as fitness coach and then as Assistant) and Vitória de Setúbal. In the mid-1990s, was hired to work with the English Coach Bobby Robson at Sporting Clube de Portugal. Mourinho earns the nickname of translator, although in reality is an important Assistant to Bobby Robson. Remains as the English coach's right arm when changing to FC Porto and, later, to Barcelona.
When Robson goes to PSV, Mourinho remains in Catalonia with Louis Van Gaal, where again gains a very active role as assistant coach of Van, though in the beginning his position was put to the test by Van Gaal. Popular demotion reported in certain newspapers as a simple Translator are factually incorrect.
In 2000, comes the opportunity to train as Manager in Portugal. Is chosen by Sport Lisboa e Benfica to replace Jupp Heynckes after the 4th round of Superliga. When it begins to win over Benfica fans (especially after the victory against rivals Sporting Clube de Portugal by 3-0) there are elections at Sport Lisboa e Benfica. Changes the Presidency of Joao Vale e Azevedo to Manuel Vilarinho. Mourinho leaves Benfica after 9 games. During that time, is contracted to the União de Leiria, which would assume functions in 2001/2002 season and where will remain only till January 2002.
In January 2002, is chosen to replace Octávio Machado in charge of FC Porto. Finished the season in third place, scoring a total of 11 WINS, 2 draws and 2 defeats,
Mourinho promises the title in the following season: "next season we will be champions". With its tactical rigour and determination Porto grows in Portugal as well as well in Europe. In two years they won two European competitions --
