The president of The Gambia says he remains in charge of the West African state after his security forces thwarted an attempted coup. Yahya Jammeh said an ex-army commander tried to take control of the country while he was visiting France. His current whereabouts are unclear. Heavy gunfire had earlier erupted near the presidential palace in the capital. Mr Jammeh seized power in a coup in 1994 and his critics accuse him of ruling with an iron-hand. Diplomatic and military sources said soldiers from the presidential guard appeared to have mounted the attack on the presidential palace in Banjul in the early hours of Tuesday 30 December 2014. The government denied there had been an attempted coup in a statement broadcast on state radio. However, Mr Jammeh later acknowledged the attack and said forces loyal to Lamin Sanneh - who he called a "disgraced" former soldier - had invaded The Gambia from Senegal "in an attempt to overthrow its legitimate government". However they would take it one step further… they would hold the rally at the courthouse - with loaded rifles. According to Kit Lange, of the Patrick Henry Society, the rally was monitored by DHS helicopters, and undercover agents under the cold crosshairs of DHS snipers. Kit, reflecting on the moment wrote these chilling words on her blog: “As we reached the courthouse, several DHS vehicles were outside. As we stood on the sidewalk, outside federal property, a few of us started scanning—and found what we were looking for. Aside from the DHS helicopter overhead, there was a roving perimeter manned by SUVs with fake license plates. A homeless man on the sidewalk next to a building, holding a smartphone that was taking video. Another man sitting on a bench pretending to read a book while watching closely. Someone else walking around through the crowd trying to chat up the attendees and get their business cards or contact information. There were snipers on the roof…many of them, positioned in such a way that no matter where we were in the area, we could be taken out any moment.” Let’s take a look at the moment they reached the Courthouse, led by Bosworth, and peacefully assembled with arms in hand: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJR0684pVpM Special Guest: Wayne Pierce Wayne S Pierce is a patriot in the most basic of terms. An international team of scientists and military personnel discover a Stargate network in the Pegasus Galaxy and come face-to-face with a new, powerful enemy, The Wraith. Creators: Robert C. Cooper, Brad Wright Stars: Joe Flanigan, Rachel Luttrell, David Hewlett | See full cast and crew »Stargate Atlantis (often abbreviated SGA) is a Canadian-American adventure and military science fiction television series and part of MGM's Stargate franchise. The show was created by Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper as a spin-off series of Stargate SG-1, which was created by Wright and Jonathan Glassner and was itself based on the feature film Stargate (1994). All five seasons of Stargate Atlantis were broadcast by the Sci-Fi Channel in the United States and The Movie Network in Canada. The show premiered on July 16, 2004; its final episode aired on January 9, 2009. The series was filmed in and around Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The story of Stargate Atlantis follows the events of Stargate SG-1's seventh season finale episode "Lost City" and eighth season premiere episode "New Order", in which the cast of that series discovered an Antarctic outpost created by the alien race known as the Ancients. In the pilot episode "Rising", Stargate Command sends an international team to investigate the outpost, where Dr. Daniel Jackson discovers the location of Atlantis, the legendary city created by the Ancients, and Colonel Jack O'Neill visits the outpost after having been put in stasis and retrieved from it. The series was a ratings success for the Sci Fi Channel, and was particularly popular in Europe and Australia. Although it received little critical response, Stargate Atlantis was honored with numerous awards and award nominations in its five-season run. After Stargate Atlantis was cancelled, the show's co-creators began working on the already-conceptualized Stargate Universe which the network had approved to have a bigger budget, be less mythology-dependent, and have more focus on character development; Stargate Universe premiered on October 2, 2009, and was cancelled after two seasons. Merchandise for Stargate Atlantis includes games and toys, print media, and an original audio series. With the cancellation of Stargate Universe, the intended direct to-DVD Stargate Atlantis movie, entitled Stargate: Extinction, was also cancelled.[2][3]

Journalist Yıldıray Oğur testified to an İstanbul prosecutor on Thursday regarding the 2010 publication of documents by the Taraf daily which prompted the launch of a major coup case implicating top military brass, while the daily's former main editors Ahmet Altan and Yasemin Çongar were also summoned to testify in the case. Oğur, who worked as a managing editor at Taraf at the time, was asked whether he knew the source of the documents. Oğur said he did not know how the documents were provided and that he had not seen them until they were brought to the daily's headquarters. Oğur left the İstanbul Courthouse following his testimony. Taraf journalist Mehmet Baransu, who provided the documents from an unknown source, had submitted them to prosecutors in 2010 after the daily published them. The documents were in digital form on a number of CDs, and purported to reveal coup plans by military officials and their collaborators. Prosecutors launched an investigation and the infamous " Balyoz (Sledgehammer) trial started based on these CDs. Suspects in the Balyoz case were sentenced in 2012 to jail sentences of up to 20 years on charges of attempting to overthrow the government. Baransu was arrested on March 2 of this year for "releasing classified documents." A day before the arrest order, Baransu's home was searched for 12 hours by the İstanbul police. Baransu told the press that what he did was an act of journalism. Altan, who was editor-in-chief of Taraf when the documents were published, gave an interview to the Cumhuriyet daily after Baransu's arrest, saying: "I am the one who made the call for those documents to be published. Stop questioning the children over it and come to me." Turkey is known for its long history of army-driven coups and military control over civilian governments. The Ergenekon and Balyoz coup plot trials weakened the military power in the country in recent years. However, over the past year, the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government changed its stance against the army, following the Dec. 17 and Dec. 25, 2013 corruption scandals involving some of its ministers. In recent months, Deputy Prime Minister Yalçın Akdoğan has said the two major trials against the military officials were part of a "plot" against the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK). The AK Party has sought to frame the faith-based Gülen movement, which it accuses of trying to topple the government via the Dec. 17 and Dec. 25 graft probes, for this alleged plot. Turkish courts reject release of journalist for second time A court in İstanbul on Friday rejected for the second time a plea for the release of Baransu, who has been under arrest since March 2. The lawyers representing Baransu made a plea to the court last week for his release, which was rejected. Serkan Sakallı, one of the lawyers representing Baransu, appealed the rejection by the İstanbul 5th Criminal Court of Peace to a higher court. The higher court declined the appeal, saying no tangible evidence had emerged to end his client's arrest. Sakallı, speaking to the Cihan news agency, said: "Our previous plea for his release was also rejected. It is astonishing that the court issued the arrest order with abstract evidence and demanded tangible evidence for the release [of my client]. This is a sign that this trial is politically motivated. We are going to demand the recusal of the judge." Journalists, politicians, bar associations and press associations including the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) have called on the court to release Baransu pending trial. The European Union announced on March 6 that it will “very closely” follow the case of Baransu, asking for an independent and transparent investigation. Baransu has frequently faced prosecution for insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and government officials as well as releasing documents claimed to violate confidentiality. The journalist has also been detained and released pending trial four times over the past year in connection with these accusations. A campaign has been launched on the website "change.org" where Turkish people express their concern over press freedom issues in the country and demand the release of Baransu as well as other jailed journalists. The change.org petition addresses the president, Speaker of the Parliament, the prime minister, the president of the Supreme Court of Appeals, and the president of the Constitutional Court in Turkey.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who at one time expressed strong support for the Ergenekon investigation -- a probe of a clandestine terrorist organization within the military and bureaucracy -- even declaring himself the “prosecutor” of the investigation, is now claiming that he was “deceived” by those who carried out the inquiry. The president's backpedaling came during a speech he delivered to hundreds of senior military officials at the Turkish War Colleges Command on Thursday evening and included his claims of a “parallel structure,” a term invented by Erdoğan and his associates within the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) to refer to followers of the Gülen movement, also known as the Hizmet movement, a grassroots social initiative inspired by Turkish Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen. Ergenekon is a terrorist organization accused of working to topple the democratically elected government in Turkey. Its existence was discovered when the police found a number of hand grenades in a shanty house in the Ümraniye district of İstanbul in 2007. The suspects, who included members of the military, businessmen and journalists, appeared before a court for the first time in 2008 in what many described as the “trial of the century.” The suspects were sentenced to lengthy prison terms by the İstanbul 13th High Criminal Court in August 2013 but were released after the AK Party revised legislation abolishing specially authorized courts (ÖYM) that oversaw the case and decreased the maximum period of detention before a final verdict to five years. In 2008, then-leader of the Republican People's Party (CHP), Deniz Baykal, said on many occasions that he was the “lawyer of the Ergenekon detainees.” Then-Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan reacted to his statements by warning Baykal against influencing the trial process and responding, "If you are the lawyer for the members of Ergenekon then I am the prosecutor of this investigation." The AK Party and Erdoğan first showed signs of backtracking on investigations such as Ergenekon after a major corruption investigation in which 52 suspects, including bureaucrats, prominent businesspeople and the sons of three former-ministers, were detained on Dec. 17, 2013 on charges of bribery and transferring gold to Iran in order to undermine a US-led sanction against the country. The re-trial of military officers in critical cases such as the Ergenekon terror organization and the Balyoz (Sledgehammer) coup investigation was initiated after then-Deputy Prime Minister Yalçın Akdoğan wrote an op-ed in a pro-government newspaper stating that convicted officers had been framed by groups within the judiciary in December 2013, days after the graft investigations went public. The infamous Sledgehammer case was an investigation into the plans for an attempted coup initiated in 2010 when Taraf daily journalist Mehmet Baransu gave a number of CDs purported to contain plans for the coup that were made by military officials and their collaborators to a prosecutor. The Taraf daily published the coup plot on its front page on Jan. 20, 2010. Baransu was recently arrested for having obtained and published the documents in a development that casts further doubts about freedom of expression in the country. After Taraf's initial publication of the Balyoz coup documents, Erdoğan had said: “Do you think we were not informed of these [coup] plans? We were hearing these for seven years but chose not to be the side increasing tensions.” Erdoğan accuses members of the police force and the judiciary who are inspired by the Hizmet movement of being behind the investigation, and he claims it tried -- and failed -- to overthrow him and his government. He is now waging a self-declared war against the movement, going so far as to say, “If reassigning individuals who betray this country is called a witch hunt, then yes, we will carry out this witch hunt,” during a speech at the 22nd Consultation and Assessment Meeting of the AK Party in 2014. “The whole country and I were misdirected and deceived with these operations, which mixed up truth and lies, right and wrong,” Erdoğan said Thursday, arguing that “Turkey witnessed a coup by a structure nested within the state that attempted to seize the country.”
The drills went live and thus the attack was a military coup d'état by the Pentagon, which committed a self-inflicted wound in order to go to war.

What is Park Chung-hee? A documentary report all about Park Chung-hee for homework/assignment. Park Chung-hee ( 14 November 191726 October 1979) was a South Korean president and military general who led South Korea from 1961 until his assassination in 1979. Park seized power through a military coup d'état that overthrew the Korean Second Republic in 1961 and ruled as a military strongman at the head of the Supreme Council for National Reconstruction until his election and inauguration as the President of the Korean Third Republic in 1963. In 1972, Park declared martial law and recast the constitution into a highly authoritarian document, ushering in the Korean Fourth Republic. After surviving several assassination attempts, including two operations associated with North Korea, Park was eventually assassinated on 26 October 1979 by Kim Jae-gyu, the chief of his own security services. Air raid on Yemen presidential palace: An unidentified warplane attacked the presidential palace in Aden on Thursday after rival forces fought the worst clashes in years in Yemen's second city, an official and residents said, in a sharp escalation of the country's months-long conflict. Thirteen people were killed when forces loyal to President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi fought their way into Aden's international airport and wrested an adjacent military base from a renegade officer, Aden governor Abdulaziz bin Habtoor said. Both the fighting on the ground and subsequent air attack appeared to be part of a deepening power struggle between Hadi and the Shi'ite Muslim Houthi group, which controls the capital Sanaa and is allied with former president Ali Abdullah Saleh. In a statement Hadi described the attack on Aden as an attempted coup backed by the previous regime. "The failure of the military coup... was backed by the former regime, which was one of the perpetrators of extermination," said the presidential statement. The statement made no reference to Saleh but said that "agents of Iran" had also backed the former regime's forces. "What happened today is a clear message to the whole world that the coup and their supporters of traitors reject any solutions or sit at the dialogue table in order to exit the crisis of Yemen to safety," it added. Earlier on Thursday in a televised speech, Habtoor accused the Houthis of being behind the air attack on the compound in Aden's al-Maasheeq district, where Hadi is based, but said the bomb "had fallen harmlessly into the sea".
Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi described an attack on his palace in the southern port city of Aden on Thursday as an attempted coup backed by the previous regime. The fighting on the ground and a subsequent air attack appeared to be part of a deepening power struggle between Hadi and the Shi'ite Muslim Houthi group, which controls the capital Sanaa and is allied with former president Ali Abdullah Saleh. "The failure of the military coup...was backed by the former regime, which was one of the perpetrators of extermination, murder and displacement," Hadi said in a statement. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/Reuters/worldNews/~3/GDrJMMeneXc/story01.htm http://www.wochit.com

Thailand's Supreme Court has ordered the former prime minister to stand trial for negligence over a controversial rice subsidy scheme. Yingluck Shinawatra is facing a maximum prison sentence of 10 years. It is the latest blow to the dominance of the Shinawatra family in Thai politics, after Ms Yingluck was banned from politics for five years. Her government was ousted before the military took control in a coup in May last year, after months of protests. In January, Ms Yingluck was retroactively impeached for her role in the rice subsidy scheme by a military-appointed legislature. Thailand's attorney general then filed criminal charges against Ms Yingluck in February, accusing her of dereliction of duty. "The panel (of judges) has decided that this case falls within our authority. We accept this case," said Judge Veeraphol Tangsuwan at the Supreme Court in Bangkok. The first hearing will be held on 19 May. The scheme paid rice famers in the rural areas - the Shinawatra support base - twice the market rate for their crops, in a programme that cost the government billions of dollars. Ms Yingluck says she was not involved in the scheme's day-to-day operations, and has defended it as an attempt to support the rural poor. The rice scheme was a factor in the street protests that led to the ousting of Ms Yingluck's government and the subsequent military coup. It was the latest turn in the political turbulence that began when Ms Yingluck's brother Thaksin Shinawatra was removed by a previous coup in 2006. He now lives in self-imposed exile. But the influence of the family persists, with parties allied to the Shinawatras winning every election since 2001. They are loved in the rural north for their populist policies, but hated by the country's elite who accuse them of corruption.

Several Mi-8 made throughout the day landed on the FSB. There were also reports about fixing the city combat helicopters Ka-26 and Ka-52! Why circled over Moscow K-52 - attack helicopter, do not understand! Putin probably blocked the security forces and thus began a revolution. This opinion was expressed by the Russian public and political figure Heydar Jemal. He stated this in an interview with the Georgian television station "Rustavi 2", commenting on the situation around the "silence" of Putin According to another version: In Moscow today, said a source from the Administration of President Vladimir Putin, today, was killed in a military coup and seized power in Russia Shoigu and his army subordinates! And in fact, now the power over Russia is now in the hands of the Russians so beloved by the military junta. Shoigu name mentioned so often for a reason, he was the main contender for the presidency in the upcoming elections. While any of his "substitute" such as representatives of the junta - Sergei Shoigu, can begin to lead a political game, the result of which, there will be a global conflict. There is also a version that now all power in the Kremlin in the hands of Medvedev, including the control of the armed forces, and therefore the contract to the Moscow military. Protege and right-hand man Putin, Dmitry Medvedev, has disappeared from view at the same time and was sick Putin. Apparently, Medvedev just ready to react to the possible reaction of competitors to the throne of the Moscow tsar. Although, there is a possibility that Medvedev is just better to run, because without Putin, he is a nobody, and the luggage of his knowledge which will be stored on reliable bottom of the grave than in other fugitive head of Putin. What will happen next in Russia is not clear, or the junta simply declare their right to rule, or in the country will develop a real "battle of Thrones" with all outgoing ... In general, not for us to judge what will happen, but until the eve of the Civil War in Russia launched a full, albeit concealed mobilization, not today or tomorrow in Russia to impose martial law ...
Thai army seizes power in coup - New Images The military takeover in Thailand has drawn swift international condemnation, with the United States saying it was reviewing its military aid and other dealings with its closest ally in Southeast Asia.

Business Insider 2015-03-25A coup d'état (English: /ˌkuːdeɪˈtɑː/, French: [ku deta]; plural: coups d'état; translation: strike (against the) state, literally: strike/blow of state)—also known as a coup, putsch, and overthrow—is the sudden, illegal deposition of a government, usually by a small group of the existing state establishment—typically the military—to depose the extant government and replace it with another body, civil or military. A coup d'état is considered successful when the usurpers establish their dominance. When the coup neither fails completely nor succeeds, a civil war is a likely consequence.
A coup d'état typically uses the extant government's power to assume political control of the country. In Coup d'État: A Practical Handbook, military historian Edward Luttwak states that "[a] coup consists of the infiltration of a small, but critical, segment of the state apparatus, which is then used to displace the government from its control of the remainder." The armed forces, whether military or paramilitary, are not a defining factor of a coup d'état.
