Both madcap cookbook and manifesto on Futurism, Marinetti's exuberant and entertaining book has been described as one of 'the best artistic jokes of the century' No other cultural force except the early twentieth-century avant-garde movement Futurism has produced a provocative work about art disguised as an easy-to-read cookbook. Part manifesto, part artistic joke, Fillippo Marinetti's The Futurist Cookbook is a collection of recipes, experiments, declamations and allegorical tales. Here are recipes for ice cream on the moon; candied atmospheric electricities; nocturnal love feasts; sculpted meats. Marinetti also sets out his argument for abolishing pasta as ill-suited to modernity, and advocates a style of cuisine that will increase creativity. Although at times betraying its author's nationalistic sympathies, The Futurist Cookbook is funny, provocative, whimsical, disdainful of sluggish traditions and delighted by the velocity and promise of modernity. Filippo Tommaso Marinetti was born in 1876 to Italian parents and grew up in Alexandria, Egypt, where he was nearly expelled from his Jesuit school for championing scandalous literature. He then studied in Paris and obtained a law degree in Italy before turning to literature. In 1909 he wrote the infamous Futurist Manifesto, which championed violence, speed and war, and proclaimed the unity of art and life. Marinetti's life was fraught with controversy: he fought a duel with a hostile critic, was subject to an obscenity trial, and was a staunch supporter of Italian Fascism. Alongside his literary activities, he was a war correspondent during the Italo-Turkish War and served on the Eastern Front in World War II, despite being in his sixties. He died in 1944. 'A paean to sensual freedom, optimism and childlike, amoral innocence ... it has only once been answered, by Aldous Huxley's Brave New World' Lesley Chamberlain

“A clear and accurate history of . . . a continuous development of enormous consequence to the most adventurous twentieth-century art."―Robert Rosenblum This pioneering book has now been expanded with a new chapter that brings it into the second decade of the twenty-first century, mapping the global rise of performance to the present day. RoseLee Goldberg explores contemporary artists’ approaches to politics, tradition, social engagement, and the art world itself, while evaluating the changing status of performance and its ever-increasing relevance to artists and audiences.
Featuring recent work by leading performance artists such as Marina Abramovic, Walid Raad, Francis Alys, Pierre Huyghe, Tino Sehgal, and Sharon Hayes, the book covers a century of the medium. This new edition also includes an updated foreword and an expanded reading list. 206 black-and-white illustrations

Readercon 26
July 9-12, 2015
Burlington Marriott, Burlington, Massachusetts.
http://readercon.org/
82. 6:00 PM ENL Solarpunk and Eco-Futurism. Michael J. Daley, Michael J. Deluca, Jeff Hecht, Rob
Kilhefer, Romie Stott (leader). In August 2014, Miss Olivia Louise wrote a Tumblr post proposing the creation
of a new subgenre: solarpunk. Solarpunk, sometimes called eco-futurism, would be set in a semi-utopian future
visually influenced by Art Nouveau and Hayao Miyazaki, and built according to principles of new urbanism
and environmental sustainability—an “earthy” handmade version of futuretech, in opposition to the slick,
white, spacebound surfaces of 1980s futurism. Solarpunk blogs have since proliferated, as Tumblr users like
SunAndSilicon create and aggregate concept art and brainstorm solarpunk’s technological and societal shifts,
enthusiastically building a shared-world fandom with no single owner or defining central text. For some, building
solarpunk is an escapist fantasy. Meanwhile, in San Francisco there have been meatspace conventions to develop
some kind of manifesto, with the hope of eventually moving realworld society in a solarpunk direction. What, if
any, are the precursors to this kind of grassroots genre creation? Is it an inevitable outgrowth of fan-funded niche
publishing through crowdfunding? Is solarpunk’s locavore pro-tech optimism in the face of climate change a
distinctly Millenial backlash to Gen-X dystopias? And can the inevitable contradictions of a crowdsourced utopia
survive the rigors of critical reading?

BLUE POINT, NY-- Pastors Michael Miano of Blue Point Bible Church and Robert Iannuccilli of Faith on Fire Ministries hold an informative discussion on Preterism and Futurism in biblical thought and teaching. Pastor Miano holds the Preterist view and Pastor Iannuccilli holds the Futurist view. March 21, 2015
The topics of discussion include:
1) The meaning and significance of the creation account;
2) The purpose and significance of the law and the prophets;
3) The mission and message of Jesus; and
4) The end of all things (eschatology).

Featuring Pastor Robert Iannuccilli:
Pastor Robert Iannuccilli was born and raised in Long Island, New York. In his youth, he became involved and bound by drugs and alcohol as a teenager, but by a miraculous intervention of God, Robert’s life was drastically transformed at the age of 18. Soon after committing his life to Christ he felt a strong call to ministry. Pastor Iannuccilli attended Valley Forge Christian College where he earned a B.S. Degree with high honors in bible and theology with a pastoral emphasis. After two assistant pastorates he became leader of a small body of believers in Commack, NY in 1983. Having faithfully pastored the flock over a number of years the church outgrew one building and purchased a larger facility in Smithtown where he remained a number of years. Subsequently, after a time away from pastoring, Pastor Robert began a new ministry in 2004 to a small group of believers in the den of the home in which he was reared in Massapequa in 2004. Faith On Fire Ministries has now moved on from these humble beginnings to the building in which we now meet in Hicksville, N.Y. Pastor Robert comes with a rich background in the Word and a commitment to its integrity. His love for God and truth is evident whenever he ministers.

Bruce Sterling. Historical Narrative, Futurism and Emergent Network Culture. 2010

http://www.egs.edu/ Bruce Sterling, noted critic, science fiction writer and net theorist, lecturing on historical narrative, futurism and the emergent network culture. In this lecture Bruce Sterling discusses the (r)evolution of historical narrative in the context of contemporary and evolving network culture. He ponders the trans-temporal and trans-cultural effects of network culture in relation to cultural signifiers and rhizomatic subversions of postmodern culture, focusing on the collapse of historical narrative embedded in a disintegrating digital culture. He brings to light a philosophy of history that is evolving towards an atemporal condition of the emergent net culture, relegated to a dissipation of time-bound origins and identities. Citing the likes of Slavoj Zizek, William Gibson, and Arthur Kroker, Bruce Sterling invites us to re-shift a framework in understanding the nature of history, preempting a retrospective futurism, one that begs for accountability, consequences and a future history in the context of its rapidly evolving fragmented, hyper-linked, cross-referenced and anecdotal systems of history. Public open lecture for the students and faculty of the European Graduate School EGS Media and Communication Studies department program Saas-Fee Switzerland Europe. June 2010. Bruce Sterling.
Bruce Sterling is an Austin-born (April 14th 1954) science fiction writer and Net critic, internationally recognized as a cyberspace theorist who is also still based there. However, as a child he also spent a lot of time in India, which can partly explain why today still Sterling is fond of Bollywood movies. Sterling studied journalism. He published his first book, Involution Ocean, in 1977. However, he first started becoming famous in Austin by organizing every year a Christmas party where he would present digital art. In the 80s Sterling published Cheap Truth a series of fanzines, which are magazines for fans of a particular performer, group, or form of entertainment. He did so under the surprising but revealing pen name of Vincent Omniaveritas. In latin, "vincit omnia veritas" means "truth conquers all things". Sterling's writings have been very influential in the cyberpunk movement in literature, specifically the novels Heavy Weather (1994),Islands in the Net (1988), Schismatrix (1985), The Artificial Kid (1980).
In 2003 Bruce Sterling became Professor of Internet studies and science fiction at the at the European Graduate School where he teaches intensive Summer seminars. In 2005 he became "visionary in residence" at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. Sterling lived for several years in Serbia with Jasmina Tesanovic his second wife, a Serbian author and film-maker. In September 2007 he moved to Italy where he found a peaceful place to live in Turin. Sterling has travelled the world giving many speeches and collecting awards too. For example, the Campbell Award in 1989 for his novel Islands in the Net, the Hugo Award both in 1997 and 1999 for his novelettes Bicycle Repairman andTaklamakan respectively, the Hayakawa Award in 1999 also for Taklamakan, as well as the Clarke Award in 2000 for his novel Distraction.

Futurist music rejected tradition and introduced experimental sounds inspired by machinery, and would influence several 20th century composers. Francesco Balilla Pratella joined the Futurist movement in 1910 and wrote a Manifesto of Futurist Musicians in which he appealed to the young (as had Marinetti), because only they could understand what he had to say. According to Pratella, Italian music was inferior to music abroad. He praised the "sublime genius" of Wagner and saw some value in the work of other contemporary composers, for example Richard Strauss, Elgar ,Mussorgsky, and Sibelius. By contrast, the Italian symphony was dominated by opera in an "absurd and anti-musical form". The conservatories was said to encourage backwardness and mediocrity. The publishers perpetuated mediocrity and the domination of music by the "rickety and vulgar" operas of Puccini and Umberto Giordano. The only Italian Pratella could praise was his teacher Pietro Mascagni, because he had rebelled against the publishers and attempted innovation in opera, but even Mascagni was too traditional for Pratella's tastes. In the face of this mediocrity and conservatism, Pratella unfurled "the red flag of Futurism, calling to its flaming symbol such young composers as have hearts to love and fight, minds to conceive, and brows free of cowardice."
Luigi Russolo (1885–1947) wrote The Art of Noises (1913), an influential text in 20th-century musical aesthetics. Russolo used instruments he called intonarumori, which were acoustic noise generators that permitted the performer to create and control the dynamics and pitch of several different types of noises. Russolo and Marinetti gave the first concert of Futurist music, complete with intonarumori, in 1914. However they were prevented from performing in many major European cities by the outbreak of war.
After studying both manifesto's Crijns and Wieggers put together an improvised performance with guitar and analog electronic effects with amp and lesley speaker based on and inspired by futurist philosophies.
Futurism was one of several 20th century movements in art music that paid homage to, included or imitated machines. Feruccio Busoni has been seen as anticipating some Futurist ideas, though he remained wedded to tradition. Russolo's Intonarumori influenced Stravinsky, Arthur Honegger, George Antheil, Edgar Varèse, Karlheinz Stockhausen and John Cage. In Pacific 231, Honegger imitated the sound of a steam locomotive. There are also Futurist elements in Prokofiev's The Steel Step and in his Second Symphony.
Most notable in this respect, however, is the American George Antheil. His fascination with machinery is evident in his Airplane Sonata, Death of the Machines, and the 30-minute Ballet Mécanique. The Ballet Mécanique was originally intended to accompany an experimental film by Fernand Léger, but the musical score is twice the length of the film and now stands alone. The score calls for a percussion ensemble consisting of three xylophones, four bass drums, a tam-tam, three airplane propellers, seven electric bells, a siren, two "live pianists", and sixteen synchronized player pianos. Antheil's piece was the first to synchronize machines with human players and to exploit the difference between what machines and humans can play.
Other composers offered more melodic variants of Futurist music, notably Franco Casavola, who was active with the movement at the invitation of Marinetti between 1924 and 1927, and Arthur-Vincent Lourié, the first Russian Futurist musician, and a signatory of the St Petersburg Futurist Manifesto in 1914. His five Synthèses offer a form of dodecaphony, while formes en l'air was dedicated to Picasso and is a Cubo-Futurist concept. Born in the Ukraine and raised in New York, Leo Ornstein gave his first recital of 'Futurist Music' at the Steinway Hall in London on 27 March 1914. According to the Daily Sketch newspaper "one listened with considerable distress. Nothing so horrible as Mr Ornstein's music has been heard so far. Sufferers from complete deafness should attend the next recital.”

If scarcity is the problem, abundance is the solution. In his gripping talk, futurist and optimist Willy illustrates how the rise of disruptive technologies can help us solve humankind's most pressing problems - if we choose to adapt to, promote and use them in a way to create a better future for all.
Born in Tel-Aviv. Raised in Berlin by Sovjet parents. Attended an American school. Willy likes French movies, Arab cuisine and Brazilian music. He wrote a couple of books, recorded a musical album and wrote/produced/acted in loads of comedy clips, subversive underground talk shows and even an animated TV-Series. He came across the subject of futurism fairly recently. As he read Jeremy Rifkin’s “The Zero Marginal Cost Society” last autumn in Rome, his eyes filled with passion and Willy simply knew: this is my next subject. Since then he has devoured everything about disruptive technologies he came across. Now, he is merging the area of creative art with that of scientific futurism.
