Cuenca, Ecuador
The city of Cuenca — in full, Santa Ana de los cuatro ríos de Cuenca — is the capital of the Azuay Province. It is located in the highlands of Ecuador at about 2,500 meters above sea level, with an urban population of approximately 400,000 rising to 700,000 inhabitants in the larger metro area. The centre of the city is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Trust site due to its many historical buildings. Cuenca is well known for its stunning architecture, tourist attractions, hotels and night activities.
History
First inhabitants
According to studies and archeological discoveries, the origins of the first inhabitants go back to the year 8060 BC in the Cave of Chopsi. They were hunters, hunting everything the Páramo offered them, and nomads, following the animals and seasons. Their culture is represented by tools such as arrows and spears, which have been found throughout the Andean valley. The culture was most present about 5585 BC.
Later the early indigenous people used the stable climate, fertile soil and abundant water to develop agriculture. They grew potatoes, melloco, chocho, squash and quinoa. They also domesticated animals such as cuys, and camelids: llamas and alpacas.

Ecuador (
i/ˈɛkwədɔːr/ E-kwə-dawr, Spanish: [ekwaˈðor]), officially the Republic of Ecuador (Spanish: República del Ecuador, which literally translates as "Republic of the Equator"), is a representative democratic republic in northwestern South America, bordered by Colombia on the north, Peru on the east and south, and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Ecuador also includes the Galápagos Islands in the Pacific, about 1,000 kilometres (620 mi) west of the mainland.
What is now Ecuador was home to a variety of Amerindian groups that were gradually incorporated into the Inca Empire during the fifteenth century. The territory was colonized by Spain during the sixteenth century, achieving independence in 1820 as part of Gran Colombia, from which it emerged as its own sovereign state in 1830. The legacy of both empires is reflected in Ecuador's ethnically diverse population, with most of its 15.2 million people being mestizos, followed by large minorities of European, Amerindian, and African descendants.

"Ecuador" is a song produced by German DJ/Production team Sash! that features Adrian Rodriguez. It was released in April 1997 as the third single from their debut album, It's My Life - The Album. The song became an international hit and reached the top 20 in more than ten countries worldwide.

Being the follow-up single to the massively successful "Encore Une Fois", a lot was riding on this next Sash! release. The single was just as successful, and reached number 2 in the UK Singles Chart, earning another Gold certification for sales in excess of 400,000. The song became a European smash, reaching the top 10 in Germany, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Belgium (where it peaked at number 1), Sweden, Finland, Norway and Ireland. It also reached the top 20 in Austria and France. In the United States, it was the second number 1 on Hot Dance Club Play chart for Sash!.
Adaptations
In 2005, the song was adapted by the Starstylers into their first single titled "Keep on moving".

Cuenca es sin duda una de mis ciudades favoritas; principalmente porque se ubica en un valle de sistemas montañosos y presenta un sistema hidrográfico conformado por cuatro ríos principales: Tomebamba, Yanuncay, Machángara y Tarqui que atraviesan la ciudad de oeste a este. En esta oportunidad recorrí la ciudad en sus medios de transporte públicos y me deje deleitar de su riqueza gastronómica. MIRADOR DE TURI: 5 ACTIVIDADES PARA DISFRUTAR
El nombre de Turi (parroquia cuencana), proviene del vocablo indígena kuri, que significa oro. Está situada a 10 minutos del centro de la ciudad. Fue fundada el 5 de febrero de 1853 y nace a la vida eclesiástica el 31 de marzo del mismo año. La montaña de Turi, según la historia incaica, fue un lugar de adoración de los dioses.
Mirador: Tiene una vista panorámica y única que permite observar a la ciudad en todo su esplendor, este lugar es una parada obligada para los turistas nacionales y extranjeros; es conocido como “el balcón de Cuenca”.
Iglesia de Turi: Esta parroquia alberga a una pequeña pero muy vistosa iglesia que lleva el nombre de Nuestra Señora de la Merced de Turi, su construcción fue en el año de 1923, tiene una arquitectura realizada con adobe en sus paredes, mientras que sus cúpulas fueron realizadas con ladrillo y cal.
Aventuri: El parque mirador extremo denominado Aventuri, está situado a 2.700 metros sobre el nivel del mar, existe camineras entre los árboles, tarabitas, cuerda floja y también columpios, entre los cuales sobresale uno enclavado entre 2 árboles. Es una silla sujeta con 4 cables de metal en el que se puede mirar la ciudad, mientras a los pies de los visitantes está un barranco de aproximadamente 500 metros de profundidad.

Ecuador is one of the most diverse countries in the world though it's comparably tiny. Beside the Galapagos Islands (which is the #1 tourist destination in Ecuador) the country has a lot more to offer, therefore I focussed on "La Sierra" in this video which is a paradise for landscape lovers and outdoor adventurers.
Another reason to visit the Andean region is that you have the chance to dive into the local culture and get a real feeling of Ecuador. The places to see in Ecuador I focussed on in this short video are the result of my own travels along the center from north to south and are easily doable in 2 weeks time.

MIRADOR DE TURI: 5 ACTIVIDADES PARA DISFRUTAR
El nombre de Turi (parroquia cuencana), proviene del vocablo indígena kuri, que significa oro. Está situada a 10 minutos del centro de la ciudad. Fue fundada el 5 de febrero de 1853 y nace a la vida eclesiástica el 31 de marzo del mismo año. La montaña de Turi, según la historia incaica, fue un lugar de adoración de los dioses.
Mirador: Tiene una vista panorámica y única que permite observar a la ciudad en todo su esplendor, este lugar es una parada obligada para los turistas nacionales y extranjeros; es conocido como “el balcón de Cuenca”.
Iglesia de Turi: Esta parroquia alberga a una pequeña pero muy vistosa iglesia que lleva el nombre de Nuestra Señora de la Merced de Turi, su construcción fue en el año de 1923, tiene una arquitectura realizada con adobe en sus paredes, mientras que sus cúpulas fueron realizadas con ladrillo y cal.
Aventuri: El parque mirador extremo denominado Aventuri, está situado a 2.700 metros sobre el nivel del mar, existe camineras entre los árboles, tarabitas, cuerda floja y también columpios, entre los cuales sobresale uno enclavado entre 2 árboles. Es una silla sujeta con 4 cables de metal en el que se puede mirar la ciudad, mientras a los pies de los visitantes está un barranco de aproximadamente 500 metros de profundidad.

Cuenca, Ecuador
The city of Cuenca — in full, Santa Ana de los cuatro ríos de Cuenca — is the capital of the Azuay Province. It is located in the highlands of Ecuador at about 2,500 meters above sea level, with an urban population of approximately 400,000 rising to 700,000 inhabitants in the larger metro area. The centre of the city is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Trust site due to its many historical buildings. Cuenca is well known for its stunning architecture, tourist attractions, hotels and night activities.
History
First inhabitants
According to studies and archeological discoveries, the origins of the first inhabitants go back to the year 8060 BC in the Cave of Chopsi. They were hunters, hunting everything the Páramo offered them, and nomads, following the animals and seasons. Their culture is represented by tools such as arrows and spears, which have been found throughout the Andean valley. The culture was most present about 5585 BC.
Later the early indigenous people used the stable climate, fertile soil and abundant water to develop agriculture. They grew potatoes, melloco, chocho, squash and quinoa. They also domesticated animals such as cuys, and camelids: llamas and alpacas.

Ecuador is one of the most diverse countries in the world though it's comparably tiny. Beside the Galapagos Islands (which is the #1 tourist destination in Ecuador) the country has a lot more to offer, therefore I focussed on "La Sierra" in this video which is a paradise for landscape lovers and outdoor adventurers.
Another reason to visit the Andean region is that you have the chance to dive into the local culture and get a real feeling of Ecuador. The places to see in Ecuador I focussed on in this short video are the result of my own travels along the center from north to south and are easily doable in 2 weeks time.
