Avidyā (Sanskrit; Pāli: avijjā; Tibetan: ma rig pa) is commonly translated as "ignorance" or "delusion". It can be defined as not understanding the full meaning and implication of the four noble truths or as a fundamental misunderstanding of the nature of reality. Avidyā is identified as the first link in the twelve links of dependent origination. It is sometimes identified as one of the three poisons. It is represented within the bhavacakra as an old blind man or woman.
Avidya is explained in different ways or on different levels within different Buddhist teachings or traditions. On the most fundamental level, it is a misunderstanding of the nature of reality; more specifically–a misunderstanding of the nature of self and of phenomena. On a more general level, avidya can be defined as not understanding the full meaning and implication of the four noble truths.
Avidya is referred to in the following contexts:
Avidya is identified as the first of the twelve links of dependent origination (twelve nidanas)—a sequence of links that describe a karmic process that keeps being bound within samsara (cyclic existence).
Kiribathgoda Gnanananda Thero (born 1 July 1961) is the founder of Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastery.
Gnanananda Thero was born to the Roman Catholic family, parented by Cristy Kabraal and Violet Perera. The circumstances that followed his birth were 'miraculous', as the whole family became Buddhists just 6 months after his birth, going so far as to give up their main source of income: 'animal husbandry for meat' (a livelihood advised against by the Buddha). Opportunity for Buddhist education was therefore available to him from childhood.
Ordained on March 26th, 1979 (i.e. at age 17) under Ven. Dambagasare Shri Sumedhankara Thero and Ven. Dikwelle Pannananda Thero at Seruwavila, he received a traditional Buddhist academic education and entered the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Having understood the inability to achieve what he wanted in a university, he quit and started visiting meditation centers and hermitages.
Having practiced and preached Dhamma for years, he founded Mahamevnawa in 1999 under the guidance of Ven. Kotapola Amarakitti Thero, in Waduwava, Polgahawela. Mahamevnawa is currently spreading steadily under his guidance (It has around 40 branch monasteries for meditation throughout Sri Lanka, and overseas: Canada [1], USA [2], Australia [3]), UK [4], and Germany [5].
Kenji Suzuki (鈴木健二, Suzuki Kenji?, born 16 January 1950, in Japan), universally known as Damo Suzuki (ダモ鈴木), is a singer best known for his membership in the German krautrock group Can.
As a teenager, Suzuki spent the late 1960s wandering around Europe, often busking.
When Malcolm Mooney left Can after recording their first album Monster Movie, Holger Czukay and Jaki Liebezeit encountered Suzuki busking in Munich, Germany whilst the two were sitting outside at a street café, they invited him to join the group. And he did, performing with them that evening.
Suzuki was with Can from 1970 to 1973, recording a number of well-regarded albums such as Tago Mago, Future Days and Ege Bamyasi. Suzuki's first vocal performance with Can was "Don't Turn the Light On, Leave Me Alone" from Soundtracks His freeform, often improvised lyrics, sung in no particular language gelled with Can's rolling, psychedelic sound.
Suzuki converted to the Jehovah's Witness faith when he married his German girlfriend, who was also a Jehovah's Witness, after the release of the album Future Days, and retired from music in 1974.
Behold the man, a living example
Behold the man, a living example
In his likeness sacred profane
In his likeness sacred profane
Behold the man, what have I done?
The path to hell is paved
With least resistance
But those less traveled by
Shall make a world of difference
Beating myself to a pulp
Extracting from my skull
All those things I've learned to live with
All those things I've loved
All these things are killing me
A perpetual fall from grace
But the hand that feeds is the hand that beats me
Fiercely in the face
So I will build myself an effigy
Build myself an effigy
Build myself an effigy
Build myself an effigy
No longer mope in mediocre hell
No longer mope in mediocre hell
Behold the man, a living example
Behold the man, what have I done?
Behold the man in his likeness sacred profane
Behold the man, a living example
Behold the man, what have I done?
Behold the man in his likeness
What have I done?
What have I done?
What have I done?
What have I done?
Done done done
Effigy
Effigy
Effigy
Effigy
Behold the man
Behold the man
The icons, betrayal, and guilt
The icons, betrayal, and guilt
The icons, betrayal, and filth
The icon, what have I done?
Behold the man, a living example
In his likeness sacred profane
Behold the man
Behold the man
What have I done?
What have I done?
I'm an effigy
A parody of
Who I appear to be
Put your flaming torches under me
I'm an effigy
A parody of
Who I appear to be
Put your flaming torches under me
I'm an effigy
A parody of
Who I appear to be
Put your flaming torches under me
Endless so far in myself, follow me
If you come to find me affable
Build a replica for me
Would the idea to you be laughable
Of a pale facsimile?
So will you come to burn an effigy?
It should keep the flies away
And when you long to burn this effigy
It should be of the hours that slip away, slip away
It could be you, it could be me
Working the door, drinking for free
Carrying on with your conspiracies
Filling the room with a sense of unease
Fake conversations on a nonexistent telephone
Like the words of a man who's spent a little too much time alone
When one has spent too much time alone
So will you come to burn my effigy?
It should keep the flies away
If you long to burn an effigy
It should be of a man whose has lost his way, slips away
It could be you, it could be me
Working the door, drinking for free
Carrying on with your conspiracies
Filling the room with a sense of unease
Fake conversations on a nonexistent telephone
Like the words of a man who's spent a little too much time alone
When one has spent too much time alone
Say what you want but you're not getting through to me
Can you take it, can you take it?
Pray if you want but you can't get a piece of me
Can you save this, can you save this?
Don't keep saying I'm afraid of a new day
Don't you hate that, really hate that?
So stay if you want but we'll burn you an effigy
Separate us, separate us
'Cause I've been waiting for something beautiful
Can you serve it up for me?
I've been thinking that something wrong with me
Clear it up for me
And I've been hoping for something meaningful
Can you serve it up for me?
And I've been looking for something to keep coming back for more
Say what you want but you're not getting through to me
Can you take it, can you take it?
Pray if you want but can't get a piece of me
Can you save this, can you save this?
Don't keep saying I'm afraid of a new day
Don't you hate that, really hate that?
So stay if you want but we'll burn you an effigy
Separate us, separate us
Because I've been waiting for something beautiful
Can you serve it up for me?
I've been thinking that something wrong with me
Clear it up for me
And I've been hoping for something meaningful
Can you serve it up for me?
And I've been looking for something to keep coming back for more
Say what you want but you're not getting through to me
Can you take it, can you take it?
Pray if you want but can't get a piece of me

Last night I saw a fire burnin' on
The palace lawn o'er the land
The humble subjects watched in mixed
Emotion
Who is burnin'? Who is burnin'?
Effigy
Who is burnin'? Who is burnin'?
Effigy
Last night I saw the fire spreadin' to
The palace door
Silent majority weren't keepin' quiet
Anymore
Who is burnin'? Who is burnin'?
Effigy
Who is burnin'? Who is burnin'?
Effigy
Last night I saw the fire spreadin' to
The country side
In the mornin' few were left to watch
The ashes die
Who is burnin'? Who is burnin'?
Effigy
Who is burnin'? Who is burnin'?
Effigy
Why? Why? Why?
Rotting legacies
Fading loyalties
Effigies for the beasts
Effigies
Distorted hearts
Worship God currency
That is so worthless to me
The poor eat the poor
Just like we've done before
Cursed by the burden youth brings
Effigies for the beasts
Effigies you and me
burn the bed
consummated
rest the head
it just holds us back now
still she keeps on looking
of course [2x]
nows theres nothing I hate as much
wet the lips
shut your pretty mouth
use the kiss
tommorrow fails to exist
still she keeps on looking
of course [2x]
now theres nothing I
it all surfaces in this light
words under my breath
taking my time
breaking your smile
feed the wish
let it flourish
head for shore
let me haunt you
still she keeps on looking
now theres nothing I hate as much [2x]
I will sleep
(It all surfaces in this light)
throughout the infection
fast asleep
where nothing can find me
words under my breath
taking my time
breaking your smile
everyone goes away
I cant even try
I watched you slip away
burn the bed
consummated
rest the head
it just holds us back now
still she keeps on looking
of course [2x]
nows theres nothing I hate as much
wet the lips
shut your pretty mouth
use the kiss
tommorrow fails to exist
still she keeps on looking
of course [2x]

Yeh-yi-yeh-yo (Ooh...ooh...yeh)
Yeh-yi-yeh-yo (I-yeh-yi)
When you came and told me that you don't wanna stay
And you turned around and you just walked away
I never knew that the day would come
When you would take my heart and drop it on the ground
(Why you) Why you wanna break my heart
(Why you) Didn't tell me from the start
Why you wanna break my heart
And leave me on my own
(Why you) Why you wanna break my heart
(Why you) Didn't tell me from the start
God please help me find someone
Who sees me as I am
Yeh-yi-yeh-yo (I-yeh-yi)
Yeh-yi-yeh-yo (Oh...ooh...hey)
Maybe you might think that this was just circumstance
Here I am believing that it was romance
Why did you even do the things that you do
When in your heart you knew that I would die for you
If they came and took away
Everything you are today
Could you find another way
All my feelings undermined
Urged to follow strict design
And I won't cross that line
Just an effigy
What I used to be
And everything that seemed real
Was just a dream
Will you side with faith or fear?
Try to save all that's dear
They might scream, but I can't hear
I've got my own cross to bare
I've still got reason to care
And in the end, I'm no worse for wear
Just an effigy
What I used to be
And everything that seems real
Is just a dream
Will you side with faith or fear?
Try to save all that's dear
Will you side with faith or fear?
Try to save all that is dear
Just an effigy
What I used to be
And everything that seems real
You walked in the door and took me by surprise oh
California in the early Fall couldn't
Compare to those blue eyes
The air is cold tonight and I can feel your heart
Beating by my side
And I been thinkin' about you lately
Ooh I wanna take you home
Cuz hearin' your voice through the phone
Is not enough, I'm not okay
Ooh I wanna take you down
Girl I wanna hear the sound
Of your breath, the words you say
Ooh I love you Efy-Jay
What's Carolina like? oh East Coast it's around midnight but
Here it's only ten till nine, one day I'm gonna make you mine
We'll get a house in Pasadeen, baby girl you'll be my queen
We'll go chasing out those dreams
And even if it don't work out, the South has got my heart
Ooh I wanna take you home
Cuz hearin' your voice through the phone
Is not enough, I'm not okay
Ooh I wanna take you down
Girl I wanna hear the sound
Of your breath, the words you say
Ooh I love you Efy-Jay
You hear a knock at the back door
You know it's me and I've been there
I left the window open, to get a breath of fresh air and
All I need is you and a brand new start
Ooh I wanna take you home
Cuz hearin' your voice through the phone
Is not enough, I'm not okay
Ooh I wanna take you down
Girl I wanna hear the sound
Of your breath, the words you say
