A minority is a sociological category within a demographic. Rather than a relational "social group", as the term would indicate, the term refers to a category that is differentiated and defined by the social majority, that is, those who hold the majority of positions of social power in a society. The differentiation can be based on one or more observable human characteristics, including, for example, ethnicity, race, gender, wealth or sexual orientation. Usage of the term is applied to various situations and civilizations within history, despite its popular mis-association with a numerical, statistical minority. In the social sciences, the term "minority" is used to refer to categories of persons who hold few positions of social power.
The term "minority group" often occurs alongside a discourse of civil rights and collective rights which gained prominence in the 20th century. Members of minority groups are prone to different treatment in the countries and societies in which they live. This discrimination may be directly based on an individual's perceived membership of a minority group, without consideration of that individual's personal achievement. It may also occur indirectly, due to social structures that are not equally accessible to all. Activists campaigning on a range of issues may use the language of minority rights, including student rights, consumer rights and animal rights.

NEW WHITE MINORITY - Ethnic Minorities Outnumber White Children in U.S Schools for the First Time
When stuck for anything insightful to say, politicians often waffle about how children are the future. They are right, of course. When the new school year begins this autumn, most children in public schools will, for the first time, be non-white, projects the Department of Education. America will not be majority-minority until 2043, says the Census Bureau, so schools give an early glimpse of what that might feel like. The answer is: not so very different. White children are still a majority in most schools. This is partly because blacks are so concentrated: in the northeast, now home to the country’s most segregated schools, more than half of African-American pupils sit in classrooms where at least 90% of children are from minorities. On the 60th anniversary of the desegregation of public schools “separate but equal” has, in many places, been replaced with equal but separate.
The United States has a racially and ethnically diverse population.[1] The census officially recognizes six ethnic and racial categories: White American, Native American and Alaska Native, Asian American, African American, Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander, and people of two or more races; a race called "Some other race" is also used in the census and other surveys, but is not official.[2][3][4] The United States Census Bureau also classifies Americans as "Hispanic or Latino" and "Not Hispanic or Latino", which identifies Hispanic and Latino Americans as a racially diverse ethnicity that composes the largest minority group in the nation.[2][3][5]
White Americans (non-Hispanic/Latino and Hispanic/Latino) are the racial majority, with a 72% share of the U.S. population, according to the 2010 U.S. Census.[6] Hispanic and Latino Americans amount to 15% of the population, making up the largest minority.[5] African Americans are the largest racial minority, amounting to nearly 13% of the population.[4][6] The White, non-Hispanic or Latino population, which includes also individuals from the Middle East and North Africa, make up 63% of the nation's total.[5]
55% of the African American population live in the South.[4] A plurality or majority of the other official groups reside in the West. This region is home to 42% of Hispanic and Latino Americans, 46% of Asian Americans, 48% of American Indians and Alaska Natives, 68% of Native Hawaiians and Other Pacific Islanders, 37% of the "two or more races" population (Multiracial Americans), and 46% of those designated "some other race".[4][7] u.s. california america usa "united states" school "high school" "los angeles" "southern california" education teacher demographics hispanic spanish teaching college university "american dream" elementary asia asian student students future historic poverty 2014 2015 work employment "u.s. citizenship" "u.s. citizen" immigration immigrate mexico "latin america" "south america" trends trending trendy uk "united kingdom" british "next generation" "back to school" "elite nwo agenda" "child care" louis farrakhan speech lindsey williams alex jones infowars rant gerald celente david icke coast to coast am we are change collapse g4t demcad prepper shtf mexico border illegal immigrants foodstamps welfare illegal alien

Hispanic students projected to increase from 12.9m to 15.6m by 2023
For the first time, white students are now outnumbered by ethnic minorities in American state schools.
There were 29.2million white students in 1997, with this figure dropping to 24.9million in 2014, which still makes them the largest single ethnic group.
The U.S Department of Education predicts that by 2023, the number of white students enrolled in U.S public schools will have decreased to 23.5million, giving them a 45 per cent share of enrolment.

This video provides an overview of the meetings of the Ethnic Mnority focus group in Birmingham. The members of the group were given introductory talks on the Roman Empire and designed their final projects at the Handsworth Community Fire Station on Friday 12th and 26th September and Thursday 2nd October. These meetings were part of a funded project called 'Understanding Museums: Deaf, Visually Impaired and Ethnic Minority groups'. There were two aims of the project:
1) To act as an outreach programme to provide individuals in the participating groups with an introduction to the Roman Empire.
2) To look at how museums can be made more accessible to Deaf, visually impaired and ethnic minority groups.
The project was generously funded by the CAGR programme (AHRC funded), ACE and CA.
This video provides an overview of the meetings of the Ethnic Mnority focus group in Birmingham. Minority Arts - No Minor Issue
Minority Arts - No Minor Issue
Arts and culture are important to any group in terms of identity, policy and visibility. For linguistic minorities,
arts linked to language are essential – but often challenging due to a relatively small immediate audience. However, this art could be of interest to any audience. World-class literature can be written in minority languages, and world-class theatre productions can premiere in any language. Furthermore, many of these artists are active participants in various international cooperations. What possibilities can the EU offer for the smaller literature and theatre fields throughout Europe? And what are the challenges?

In May 2015 Hillary Clinton kickoff her official Presidential bid. As candidate Clinton began the process of reintroducing herself to the American voters, she made a recent stop in Columbia, South Carolina to speak with a group of minority women business owners to discuss the unique challenges they face and the issues they care about most. What is Lynching?
A documentary report all about Lynching for the blind and visually impaired or for homework/assignment.
Lynching is an extrajudicial punishment by an informal group. It is most often used to characterize informal public executions by a mob, often by hanging, in order to punish an alleged transgressor, or to intimidate a minority group. It is an extreme form of informal group social control such as charivari, skimmington, riding the rail, and tarring and feathering, but with a drift toward the public spectacle. Lynchings have been more frequent in times of social and economic tension, and have often been a means for a dom

Model Minority Myth: Asian Stereotypes in the Media
One of the main issues I have with the Model Minority Myth (M3) is that it assumes that all Asians are doing equally well in education, finances and practically everything. It's definitely not true, because if you break down the "Asian American" group into separate ethnicities, you can notice that South East Asians generally are not doing as well as East Asians, etc.
Are you curious why? I'll follow up in a video.

What does Hillary Clinton, the Jesus Button and Minority Business Women have in Common?
In May 2015 Hillary Clinton kickoff her official Presidential bid. As candidate Clinton began the process of reintroducing herself to the American voters, she made a recent stop in Columbia, South Carolina to speak with a group of minority women business owners to discuss the unique challenges they face and the issues they care about most. Tyra Mitchell, inventor of the Jesus button, was one of the minority business women that had an opportunity to speak with Clinton. Not long after her conversation with the Presidential hopeful, Tyra sat down with us to discuss the challenges she faces as a minority business woman and the impact if any, that Clinton’s visit may have had on how she votes in 2016.

Parliament reshaped by minority deputies, creating hope
The unofficial results of the long-awaited Parliamentary election that took place last Sunday, June 7 have revealed the new shape of Parliament for the 25th legislative term, with three deputies representing Turkey's minority groups entering Parliament.
The Armenian community in Turkey has not been directly represented in Parliament since 1964, when Berc Sahak Turan's term in the then-Turkish Senate ended. For the first time in 51 years, Armenian deputies will represent Turkey's most fragile minority group. More interestingly, three of the four parties that will be represented in Parliament will have an Armenian deputy, according to the unofficial final results of the election.
Talking to Sunday's Zaman, Pakrat Estukyan, a prominent journalist with the Agos weekly, Turkey's leading newspaper for the Armenian community, said that “[The high number of Armenian deputies] will surely have a positive effect on our community. It is precious [for us] in terms of morale, first of all; we will see in time whether their [the deputies'] actions will also have positive impact [on our community].”
Karabet Garo Paylan, who was elected as a deputy for the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) representing İstanbul, is an important Armenian figure with a background in serving Armenian civil society. Paylan, who on the board of Yeşilköy Armenian Grammar School, took an active role in saving the historic Camp Armen Armenian orphanage from destruction in mid-May. The orphanage would have been destroyed as part of a construction plan to build luxury villas.
Estukyan commented on Paylan's previous active role in the Armenian community, saying, “Paylan has contributed to the community in many ways, especially in the fields of education, to an extent that he was embraced by society.” Estukyan added that he has a high opinion of Paylan's role in helping the Armenian community under the HDP's leadership.
Turkish-Armenian deputy Selina Doğan will be representing İstanbul's second region for the Republican People's Party (CHP). Doğan, who has a legal background, said in an interview with the ANKA news agency in April that besides being Armenian and being enthusiastic about representing her community, she also hopes to bring up issues of gender inequality in Parliament.
Even from the Justice and Development Party (AK Party), officials from which were previously recorded using derogatory language regarding Armenians, there is an important Armenian deputy: Markar Esayan. Having been a journalist in a pro-government daily, Esayan, however, has been criticized by an Armenian foundation for using events related to his community for promoting the AK Party.
Özcan Purçu, elected as an İzmir deputy for the CHP, is the first-ever deputy to represent the Roma community. The Roma community in Turkey, which is estimated as having a population of 300,000 according to a survey conducted in 2006 by the Konda research company, is strongly motivated to protect their traditions.
Chairman of İzmir Roma Community Social Cooperation and Solidarity Association Abdullah Cıstır shared his opinions about the first-ever deputy to represent his community with Sunday's Zaman. Cıstır said: “I found this symbolic. Only one deputy is not enough for the Roma community [but] we will [surely] follow our deputy's activities [in Parliament] and those who support such activities.” Cıstır also mentioned the importance of increasing the number of Roma community representatives in local administrations where the community has a dense population.

Summer is not the growing season of Lavender and once you stepped into the Lavender garden in Lyndoch, you could only see a minority group of lavenders. But under the comfortable sunshine and the cooling light wind, you could enjoy a cup of tea and a specially produced jam with a Lavender flavor scone. This feeling is really relaxing and enjoyable.

Lynchings have been more frequent in times of social and economic tension, and have often been a means for a dominant group to suppress challengers. However, it has also resulted from long-held prejudices and practices of discrimination that have conditioned societies to accept this type of violence as normal practices of popular justice. Though racial oppression and the frontier mentality in the United States have given lynching its current familiar face, execution by mob justice is not exclusive to North America, but it is also found around the world as vigilantes act to punish people behaving outside of commonly acceptable boundaries. Indeed, instances of it can be found in societies long antedating European settlement of North America.

Ethnic minorities outnumber white children in U.S schools for the first time, as research shows Hispanics will have highest proportion of students in just 30 years
White students now make up 49.7% of the 50m in America’s state schools
There were 29.2million white students in 1997, dropping to 24.9m in 2014
Hispanic students projected to increase from 12.9m to 15.6m by 2023
For the first time, white students are now outnumbered by ethnic minorities in American state schools.

Muslims in UK facing worst job discrimination of any minority group
According to the research, Muslim men are 76 percent less likely to have a job of any kind compared to white Christians of the same age and with the same qualifications. And Muslim women are 65 percent less likely to be employed than white Christian counterparts. The survey has found that religion is now causing more prejudice than skin color. The only religious group with better work prospects than white British Christians are British Jews. Experts say the situation seemingly stems from growing Islamophobia and hostility towards Muslims in the UK.

Ethnic Minority Group
This video provides an overview of the meetings of the Ethnic Mnority focus group in Birmingham. The members of the group were given introductory talks on the Roman Empire and designed their final projects at the Handsworth Community Fire Station on Friday 12th and 26th September and Thursday 2nd October. The group also visited the Birmingham Museum and Arts Gallery on Saturday 20th September.

A Minority Pastime Part 2
A Minority Pastime is an on-the-ground documentary following the daily encounters between Hunts Masters, their groups and viewers, and those others who have something to say – countryside residents, hunt saboteurs and monitor groups. Denise’s investigations reveal an untold story behind this great British tradition, and raise poignant questions about the morality and, indeed, legality of this minority pastime.

Not So Bad To Be A Minority
Not So Bad To Be A Minority
In this short clip Larry Elder examines the reasonableness in asking if being a disenfranchised group is really all that bad. I mean Obama said he was from outside the country... Elizebeth Warren and Ward Churchill claimed to be Native American, and Rachel Dolezal claimed to be black? Am I missing something?
