Ljubljansko Barje / Ljubljana Marshes - "Okolje za boljši jutri"

Ljubljansko barje je eden najzanimivejših, a hkrati tudi eden najobčutljivejših ekosistemov v okolici Ljubljane. Že od Koliščarjev naprej je predstavljal tudi privlačen habitat za ljudi na tem področju. Prebivalci Ljubljanske kotline so z barjem vedno skušali sobivati, hkrati pa so si ga poskusili tudi podrediti. Obsežni projekti izsuševanja v preteklih stoletjih so to dragoceno okolje v marsičem prizadeli, šele v zadnjih letih se rojeva spoznanje, da je za ljubljančane Ljubljansko barje mnogo več kot prostor za poselitev, kmetijstvo in industrijo. Pomembno je kot edinstven naravni ekosistem, ki ga moramo ohraniti za tamkajšnja avtohtona bitja in za prihodnost. Zato smo se dijaki 3.f razreda Gimnazije Bežigrad odločili, da v sklopu razrednega projekta "okolje za boljši jutri" o Ljubljanskem barju naredimo obširno projektno nalogo.

Visit Ljubljana, the capital city of Slovenia, and explore the places in its surroundings.
Besides having everything that all the other modern capitals have, Ljubljana succeeded in maintaining the relaxed atmosphere of a small city. This picturesque and very vibrant city is full of surprises. The region that besides Ljubljana comprises 25 other municipalities is noted for its traditional hospitality, diverse nature, nice towns, castles, quality traditional restaurants and village churches with their rich artistic legacy.
The Central Slovenia is the place where the alpine and karst landscapes meet. Thus, various unique natural and cultural particularities were created. Some of these are the Ljubljana Marshes, an area of wetlands and peat bogs known for its prehistoric pile dwellers and for its rare animal and vegetal species, the high mountain plateau Velika planina situated in the Kamnik Alps, noted for its ski centre and for being the oldest dairy herdsmen’s settlement in Europe, interesting subterranean caves, karstic fields and the mysterious forests of the Polhov Gradec and Posavje hills that abound with tourist farms.
You will definitely not be bored. The various cultural events are marked by the richness of the tradition as well as by the modern creativity. Forests, rivers and lakes offer great possibilities of an active holiday in the open air. You can choose between hiking, cycling, exploring the nature, hunting, fishing and during the winter, also between skiing and cross-country skiing. There are also some well-maintained golf courses.
Ljubljana and the Central Slovenia region are a perfect destination for relaxed and active holidays.

Ljubljana
Ljubljana (Slovene: [ljuˈbljàːna];[luˈblàːna], also known by other alternative names) is the capital and largest city of Slovenia. During antiquity, it was the site of a Roman city called Emona. It was under Habsburg rule from the Middle Ages until the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1918.
Situated at the middle of a trade route between the northern Adriatic Sea and the Danube region, it was the historical capital of Carniola, a Slovene-inhabited part of the Habsburg Monarchy, and it has been the cultural, educational, economic, political, and administrative center of independent Slovenia since 1991. Visit Ljubljana, the capital city of Slovenia, and explore the places in its surroundings.
Besides having everything that all the other modern capitals have, Ljubljana succeeded in maintaining the relaxed atmosphere of a small city. This picturesque and very vibrant city is full of surprises. The region that besides Ljubljana comprises 25 other municipalities is noted for its traditional hospitality, diverse nature, nice towns, castles, quality traditional restaurants and village churches with their rich artistic legacy.
The Central Slovenia is the place where the alpine and karst landscapes meet. Thus, various unique natural and cultural particularities were created. Some of these are the Ljubljana Marshes, an area of wetlands and peat bogs known for its prehistoric pile dwellers and for its rare animal and vegetal species, the high mountain plateau Velika planina situated in the Kamnik Alps, noted for its ski centre and for being the oldest dairy herdsmen’s settlement in Europe, interesting subterranean caves, karstic fields and the mysterious forests of the Polhov Gradec and Posavje hills that abound with tourist farms.
You will definitely not be bored. The various cultural events are marked by the richness of the tradition as well as by the modern creativity. Forests, rivers and lakes offer great possibilities of an active holiday in the open air. You can choose between hiking, cycling, exploring the nature, hunting, fishing and during the winter, also between skiing and cross-country skiing. There are also some well-maintained golf courses.

Columns flank the main path up to Tivoli Castle that was built by the Jesuits in the seventeenth century and soon became a summer residence of the bishops. Romantic lakes with water fowl and pretty flowers embellish the park, once the home of Field Marshal Radetzky. This city at the foot of a citade,l was always a melting pot for cultural, economic, and political diversity.
It is an eagerly modern city, inching towards becoming a swank capital of the new Europe.
The city's medieval character has been slightly modified by the modern architecture. The transition to the new political system was fortuitously peaceful.
Named after the renowned Slovenian poet, the Preseren Square is still the lively pulsating heart and turning point in the historic part of town.
Architecturally and historically most significant structures are snuggled within a 2-kilometre radius of the Preseren Monument.
Simple public transportation provides for effortless accessibility. A slow train brings the sightseers comfortably to the castle hovering over the city. The ride includes crossing the centrally located Tromostovje -- a web of three bridges.
The caste dates back to the 16th and 17th centuries. From here one has a wonderful view of the city and far beyond.
A great part of the city life takes place near the river. While strolling along the Lubljanica, soundlessly flowing through the city, one should take time and wander off into the ancient streets. Booksellers, cafés and relentless saunters animate the cityscape all year round.
Street musicians, often boasting a distinctly higher quality standard as those of other world capitals, and the open market, reflect the inhabitants' cultural agility and a sense for the mercantile.
Come nightfall and Ljubljana reveals its Mediterranean charm: street cafes, restaurants and bars are always brimming with life. The din from the thronged promenades resounds through out the city.
A carefree finale of a day in Ljubljana. Tomorrow one can continue to explore this elegant city.
