Ukraine's moribund economy hurting many
At a protest outside the Central Bank in Kyiv, with ordinary Ukrainians finding it punishingly difficult to pay for basic goods, they have been demonstrating against monetary policy.
They blame the bank for the exchange rate of the hryvnia currency, plummeting in relation to the dollar and euro in the past few years. It has more than halved.
One protester said: "It can't go on! Salaries haven't risen, pensions and wages are frozen and we have to pay for everything at the higher exchange rate.…

'Kleptrocrats who run Ukraine economy will grab IMF cash & run'
Ukraine's inflation hit 34 percent in February. It's been mounting rapidly since the unrest erupted over a year ago. The conflict drained the country, and there's little money left in the reserves. From 20-billion dollars in January last year, it's now shrunk to less than 6 billion.
Financial analyst and commentator Michael Hudson says there's a big risk the IMF will not get any of its money back.

Ukraine economy in free fall - inflation, energy tariffs soar
The east of Ukraine, now ravaged by war, was once the county's industrial powerhouse, but the fighting has destroyed many factories and plants in the region, and left others too dangerous to operate. Inflation's expected to rise to almost 27% this year, the national currency is in free fall, driving workers' monthly wages down to less than 60 dollars. Publisher of the 'Trends Journal' Gerald Celente says the loss of trade with Russia has also dealt a severe blow to Ukraine's economy.

Deregulation & Privatization Top Priorities For Ukraine's Economy Minister
The top reform priorities are deregulation and large-scale privatization, said the Minister of Economic Development and Trade Aivaras Abromavicius.
While Ukraine is currently at number 96 in terms of top places to do business, in two years, Abromavicius said he plans for Ukraine to be in the top 50.
Abromavicius was appointed to the ministry three months ago. His predecessor, Pavlo Sheremeta resigned in September 2014, citing frustrations with Ukraine's bureaucracy.
Hromadske International's Angelina Kariakina spoke with Abromavicius on Sunday March 1, 2015 at the Hromadske studio in Kyiv.
