The first look at Dreamfall Chapters: Book 3 teases some dramatic changes

Dreamfall Chapters: Book 3 is "getting close" to release, and in the meantime, Red Thread Games has shared the first look (pictured above) at the upcoming episode, titled Realms. In it, we see protagonists Kian and Zoe looking drastically different than their appearances in Book 2: Rebels. "Please note that this art is not final," a post on Kickstarter reads. "Art director Christoffer will continue to tweak the art next week — but Book Three is indeed called 'Realms'...and both Kian and Zoe have gone through some dramatic changes in the time that's passed since the end of Book Two!" The third episode is progressing well, the post adds, and the focus now has shifted to finishing final assets. Red Thread said it won't announce a release date until the game is five to seven days away...

Undead Labs' Moonrise comes to Steam Early Access on May 27

State of Decay developer Undead Labs is bringing its colorful, Pokémon-inspired role-playing game Moonrise to PC next week with a Steam Early Access release. The free-to-play game has been in a closed beta for months, but the upcoming Early Access release will let players buy into the pre-release version of Moonrise. Undead Labs will sell two Early Access bundles for Moonrise, one at $14.99 and the other at $19.99. The developer shared details on what's included in each bundle on its forums earlier this month, but that buy-in will grant Early Access players access to certain creatures — called Solari — and in-game gold, gems and boosters. Moonrise will be available for both Mac and Windows PC through Steam Early Access on May 27. Undead Labs describes Moonrise as a real-time tactical...

Introducing Tanaan Jungle: six things to know about World of Warcraft's newest zone

World of Warcraft's patch 6.2 has been on test servers for a while now. When it goes live in the coming weeks, it will bring a number of major new features to those playing the popular MMO, most notably a whole new zone called Tanaan Jungle. We spoke with World of Warcraft lead designer Ion Hazzikostas to find out what players should be looking forward to with the new zone. 1. You've seen Tanaan Jungle before When the Warlords of Draenor expansion first launched on Nov 13, 2014, Tanaan Jungle was actually the first glimpse players got of the new/old (time travel!) world of Draenor. But after a series of quick quests, players were whisked away to elsewhere on the planet, unable to return to that starting area. "We knew this was coming pretty much from the start," Hazzikostas says....

Here's a sneak preview of the Batman: Arkham Knight prequel comic

DC Comics' official prequel comic for Batman: Arkham Knight keeps plugging right along, telling the tale of the Joker's missing body, his last will and testament, the origins of the new Batmobile and Bruce Wayne's ongoing mission to use his fame and money (as well as his abilities as Batman) to make real change in Gotham City. But despite what seems like a successful start to Commissioner James Gordon's campaign for the office of mayor, it's a safe bet that it's Batman who'll be needed to deal with Bane, newly escaped — again — from Arkham Asylum. Courtesy of DC Comics, we've got this four page preview (plus cover) for Batman: Arkham Knight #14, from the talents of writer Mike W. Barr and artist Jim Aparo. Here's the official summary: One of Batman's deadliest enemies is back and...

See Overwatch's master bowman (and dragon summoner) Hanzo in action

Blizzard Entertainment continues its gameplay previews of team-based shooter Overwatch today with an extended look at Hanzo, the bow and arrow-wielding assassin who's also pretty skilled with summoning a giant, murderous spirit dragon. Hanzo can use his arrows in a variety of ways, including the standard Storm Bow shot, the Sonic Arrow — which can track nearby enemies — and the Scatter Arrow, which fires a spread of projectiles to take down multiple foes. His flashiest attack is his Dragonstrike, the ultimate ability that brings forth a massive, spiraling dragon that passes through walls and kills anything in its path. You can see Hanzo in action in nine minutes of new gameplay from Overwatch. Blizzard released similar gameplay videos of three other Overwatch characters, Zenyatta, M...

See Overwatch's outlaw McCree in action with 13 minutes of gameplay

In the latest gameplay video for team-based shooter Overwatch, Blizzard goes deep with Jesse McCree, the six shooter-wielding bounty hunter who's also a self-proclaimed BAMF. The 13-minute gameplay video shows off McCree's talents: the Combat Roll that reloads his revolver, the Peacekeeper; the flashbang grenade that momentarily staggers and blinds his enemies; and the Deadeye shot, the ultimate ability that lets him aim with precision and shoot everyone in his line of sight. Blizzard released similar gameplay videos of two other Overwatch characters, Zenyatta and Mercy, earlier this month. Overwatch is coming to Mac and Windows PC, with a beta planned for later this year.

Hearthstone: how to play a dragon paladin deck

Watch on YouTube | Subscribe to Polygon on YouTube We're going to be waiting for the next add-on for Hearthstone for a while, but we still love playing it and making videos about it. So while we wait for shiny new cards, we decided to pass the time by making some videos showing off some of the most popular or interesting decks being used in the game right now. First up: the dragon paladin. In the Blackrock Mountain add-on, paladins got the new "Dragon Consort" card, making them the obvious choice for dragon-heavy decks. This combination hasn't taken off as much as some people expected, but we've been loving it. Watch the video above to see the make-up of our deck, get some tips on what to do and maybe even see us win a few games. Also please ignore the missed lethal at 15 minutes. I...

Chroma Squad review: faux faux Power Rangers

I’ve never been a fan of the “It’s X crossed with Y” way of describing games or movies, it’s always seemed a bit reductive. But in the case of Chroma Squad, when the formula is “Power Rangers crossed with XCOM with a dash of Game Dev Story,” it’s just a bit too bizarre of a recipe not to share. When group of five stuntmen get tired of the poor plotting and overbearing direction on their sentai series, they set out to form their own studio. If the term "sentai" is unfamiliar, just think Power Rangers: Spandex-clad heroes taking on rubber suit monsters with their super-powered weapons and their skyscraper-sized mech. With little more than a warehouse borrowed from a squad member’s uncle, they start filming episodes of their own show, transforming into a super team that’s equally...

League of Legends 'Hide Eye Candy' option will cut out distractions

League of Legends players will soon have the option to turn off some of the more cosmetic animations surrounding characters in the game. Why is a "Hide Eye Candy" feature a big enough deal? Turns out these things can be a distraction to top-flight competitors. "We added the option to disable things like butterflies, dragonflies and the water wakes to help competitive players focus on what they care about, the gameplay," wrote a Riot designer on the game's official forums. For those curious, the option has only "a slight impact on performance ... not enough that it's worth toggling on for that," the designer wrote. Lowering the video quality setting will have a much greater effect on this than turning off "eye candy." The option will go live in the next deployment of the Public Beta...

Not a Hero review: don't stop and pop

Not a Hero doesn't just trim the fat off the cover-based shooter genre — it absolutely eviscerates it. Just as developer Roll7's previous work, OlliOlli, reduced skateboarding to its most essential components, Not a Hero takes the cover-based shooter and turns it into something lean and brutal. The game's murderous cast is always moving, sliding between cover, fanning out pot shots and delivering grisly executions. There's no downhill slope to pull you forward, but that doesn't mean Not a Hero lacks momentum. For all the slick improvisation that Not a Hero demands, it undercuts that chaos with a surprising amount of rigidity. It is a game in which you will fail dozens of times until you learn the correct way to complete your objectives. It feels less like composing a symphony of...

World of Warcraft nukes Honorbuddy, hands out 6-month bans

In the grim future of the MMO there is only war, an eternal struggle between the those running a game as a service, and those seeking to exploit that game's code for their own financial gain. Today Blizzard, developer of the eternal crusade known as World of Warcraft, has dealt a stunning blow against a bot that automated characters in the game world. It then meted out justice on a very large scale. Honorbuddy, a for-pay automation tool that allowed WoW players to walk away from their computer while their characters farmed resources and even fought in PvE skirmishes on their own, has been defeated. In a forum post made yesterday Blizzard community manager Lore stated the following: We’ve recently taken action against a large number of World of Warcraft accounts that were found...
