Facing the Challenge of Climate Change
In a wide-ranging interview with YaleGlobal’s Nayan Chanda, Dr. Gro Harlem Brundtland, former Prime Minister of Norway and former Director General of the World Health Organization discussed various challenges facing the world. She expressed guarded optimism about the climate change summit in Paris but was concerned about the growing economic inequality in the developed world and rising anti-immigrant, anti-Islamic sentiment in Europe. Brundtland was one of the intended targets of Norwegian anti-Islamic fanatic Anders Behring Breivik who killed dozens of socialist youth in July 2011.

As a result, the CTP enables developing country entrepreneurs to be more proactively and profitably involved in one of the most promising sectors of the 21st century.
The CTP’s flagship initiative is the network of Climate Innovation Centers, or CICs. The CICs are entrepreneur and new venture support facilities tailor-made to respond to a country’s development challenges. They provide holistic support that goes beyond traditional incubation, including seed financing facilities, specialized policy interventions and specific network linkages as well as technical facilities, and business training.
On the global level, CTP drives clean-tech innovation by packaging and sharing knowledge from the CICs through our Climate TRACK initiative, mobilizing funds for high-impact technologies through the IGNITE Fund, linking promising companies with global partners and mentors through our cutting-edge Market CONNECT platform, and deploying Impact Xchange—a custom enhanced impact monitoring tool—along with the training to build up the CIC and host-government capacity.
The CTP is funded by the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID), the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA), UK’s Department for International Development (DfID), the government of Norway, and the World Bank. Travel video about destination Norway.
Norway is a fascinating land in the extreme north of Europe where both magic and fairytales are very much alive. It has crystal clear lakes and rivers, snow covered mountains, idyllic fishing villages and endless beaches that are only accessible by boat.Although the Norwegian metropolis of Oslo is a modern city it continues to be inspired by the lively spirit of its past traders, fighting men and seafarers. Oslo is a harbour town that lies well sheltered at the end of a fjord and in the ninth century it was much appreciated by the Vikings who travelled throughout the known world, plundering much of it! Bergen, Norway: Salty Harbor Town
With 250,000 people, Bergen is a big city by Norwegian standards, but visitors sticking to the compact old center find it charming. Enjoy the busy harbor with its salty market and timber warehouses dripping with Hanseatic history, then stroll the pedestrian-friendly old quarter, with cute lanes of delicate wooden houses. Then for a modern contrast, head for Bergen's urban heart — which has a thriving personality all its own. Founded around 1000 AD, and established as a "kaupstad" or trading place in 1048 by King Harald III, the city was elevated to a bishopric in 1070 and a capital under Haakon V around 1300. Personal unions with Denmark from 1397 to 1523 and again from 1536 to 1814 and with Sweden from 1814 to 1905 reduced its influence. After being destroyed by a fire in 1624, the city was moved closer to Akershus Castle during the reign of King Christian IV and renamed Christiania in his honour. It was established as a municipality (formannskapsdistrikt) on 1 January 1838. Following a spelling reform, it was kn
Bergen’s main tourist attraction is the Bryggen district that originated in the middle of the fourteenth century when it was heavily influenced by the North German Hanseatic Office. The city not only boasts a fascinating history but also a number of music festivals and it was the birthplace of world famous composer Edvard Grieg. Trondheim is Norway’s historic capital in which the country’s kings have been crowned. The Nidaros Domkirke is the most splendid Gothic cathedral in northern Europe. It was built on the bones of Holy Olav. For several centuries it has been a place of pilgrimage and since the Middle Ages the Norwegian kings were crowned and also entombed within its walls. The small village of Nusfjord is located in front of a captivating backdrop of mountains. Due to its unique location it looks more like a high mountain village than a fishing settlement. It is both an historical as well as a cultural treasure. It is easy to understand why the descendants of the Vikings are so proud of their fascinating home in the extreme north. Norway, a country bursting with breathtaking and untamed beauty!

Located on the Aker River in Norway’s south east is the beautiful city of Oslo. As well as being the country’s capital and cultural heart, Oslo is also the gateway to Norway’s natural beauty.
In recent years, the rugged dock areas that launched so many adventures have been reinvented as an entertainment hub. Fashionable cafes and restaurants sit easily here amidst centuries of history.
There is a strong naval history here. Visit the Viking Ship Museum to see a stunning display of 800 year-old long-ships and learn how they learned to navigate without compasses. At the Fram Museum, learn how the crews of early polar expeditions survived in one of the coldest and most dangerous places on earth. The nearby Kon-Tiki Museum is a tribute to an epic adventure that captivated and inspired a world, exhausted by the second world war.
One of the world’s most respected awards, the annual Nobel Peace Prize also has its home here. Visit the Noble Peace Center which showcases the achievements of pioneers in world.
Another of Oslo’s premier buildings for which Oslo is known is its Opera House, just a short stroll away. Said to resemble a glacier, it’s gentle sloping roof is a popular meeting place and a great spot to enjoy a panoramic view.
Norway is home to one of the oldest monachys in the world and the Royal Palace, right in the centre of the city is their official residence. Enjoy the beautiful palace park, especially in the summer, when the sun doesn’t set until after 11.00 pm.
No matter where you wander in Oslo, this modern city with a heroic past is full of character, flavour and adventure.

Travel video about destination Oslo in Norway.
Although the Norwegian metropolis of Oslo is a modern city, it continues to be inspired by the lively spirit of its past traders, fighting men and seafarers. The unique capital city of the Vikings is full of both culture and sport, including a royal castle, various museums, ancient churches and world famous sporting events. It has 900 years of history.
The conference rooms of the city's government are decorated with frescos and paintings by Munch, Krogh, Revold and Rolfsen and each year on the 10th of December, the anniversary of Alfred Nobel's death, the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony takes place.
West of the harbor basin is Aker Brygge, a city quarter that was created on the site of a former shipyard and which features some unusual architecture where glass, metal and red brick dominates as in the style of London's Docklands.
The Norsk Sjøfartsmuseum features the long history of Norwegian navigation. Various figureheads are exhibited and it is no surprise that most of them are female, as seafarers have always chosen to be protected by goddesses! In the Kon-Tiki Museum, the filigree balsa river boat is on display. Thor Heyerdahl sailed across the Pacific for 101 days in the Kon-Tiki, from Peru to Polynesia.
This city is a royal residence and a cultural capital of Europe. It is the oldest of Scandinavia's capital cities and the greenest metropolis on the European continent. A place of joie de vivre, independence and a colorful past!

Bergen Norway Travel Guide - Travel Around The World 2015.mp4
Wonder in Oslo City Norway | Travel Guide Oslo.
Following a spelling reform, it was known as Kristiania from 1877 to 1925, when its original Norwegian name was restored.

Summer
Late June to early August is when the weather is warmest and the days are long and bright. Temperatures in July and August can reach 25°C - 30°C. At the same time there is hardly any humidity in the air.
Sea temperatures can reach 18°C and higher, making swimming a popular pastime.
The warmest and most stable weather usually occurs on the eastern side of the southern mountains, including the south coast between Mandal and Oslo.
Even further north, summer temperatures are rather pleasant – sometimes reaching as high as 25°C or more.
However, the summer weather can be wet and changeable, especially in Fjord Norway, Trøndelag and Northern Norway.
If you want to experience the midnight sun, you will have to travel to the northern part of the country, above the Arctic Circle.
Autumn
In the autumn the landscape is painted in golden colours. The temperature drops slowly through September, making for good berry and mushroom picking weather.
During autumn the land areas lose more heat than the sea, and eventually the coastal areas have the highest temperatures. In September the outer part of the Oslofjord usually has the highest mean temperatures. Later in the autumn, the warmest areas are usually found on the coast of Rogaland and Hordaland.
Winter
In winter much of Norway is usually transformed into a snow-clad paradise.
The lower inland areas, both in the southern and northern parts of Norway, can have very low mean temperatures in winter. Temperatures can reach below -40°C in the inner areas of Finnmark, Troms, Trøndelag and Eastern Norway, even if this does not happen every winter.
By contrast, the coastal areas have comparatively mild winters. However, gales, rain and clouds can be frequent and heavy.
Spring
May to mid-June is when the scenery in Norway is at its most spectacular, with trees and flowers waking to life, snow in the mountains and melt water swelling the waterfalls. Orchards of flowering fruit trees along the Hardangerfjord in May are images of paradise.
There are several public holidays in May, and the Norwegians make full use of them to celebrate springtime after a long winter.
Spring is the season when the temperature differences between the southern and northern part of the country are largest. This is also the time of year when daytime and nighttime temperatures differ the most.
In early spring the coastal areas of Western Norway usually has the highest mean temperatures, but in May the highest temperatures are usually found in the southern part of Eastern and Southern Norway.
The weather in spring can be very varied. There may be days when it is cold enough to snow, and days when it is warm enough to sit outside in the sunshine. Spring months can also be very windy.
Remember that the weather and temperatures can change quickly, especially in the mountains. So whether summer or winter, autumn or spring – prepare yourself for the wilderness and bring good footwear and warm clothes
Welcome to Norway :-)

Facing the Challenge of Climate Change

Gunnar Kopperud and Nina Frydenlund are two Norwegian photographers, who started working together in 2014 during the Norwegian Festival of Nature Photography. We both love to capture the magic moments of nature.
We believe this movie from beautiful Hvaler in Norway will inspire people to get involved in environmental issues. What can you do in your local environment to preserve the nature?
Our wish is for the decision makers at COP21 to make significant progress and sign treaties with real value for the global environment.

Norway Travel Video Guide

Winter magic!
Winter magic!
Seasons, weather and climate in Norway
Due to the Gulf Stream and warm air currents, Norway has a friendlier climate than the latitude indicates. Check our weather report before you travel.
Norway shares the same latitude as Alaska, Greenland and Siberia, but compared to these areas Norway has a pleasant climate. Find out what clothes to pack when planning your holiday in Norway, check out recent snow reports for your destination or go to weather forecast for Norway.

Franck Aubry, character animator at Racecar studio in Oslo, Norway: "The brief was to explain how the emission trading scheme works as well as how we as individuals can contribute to solving the continuing problem of climate change in a film to run online and at events and conferences.
"The main creative challenge was to present the film in a serious manner, with room for humor, but without jeopardizing the importance of the message. It was also a challenge to write a script which would communicate a complex system in an easily understandable manner."
