Ceuta
Ceuta (assimilated pronunciation /ˈsjuːtə/ SEW-tə, also /ˈseɪʊtə/ SAY-uu-tə;Spanish: [ˈθeuta] is an 18.5-square-kilometre (7.1 sq mi) Spanish autonomous city located on the north coast of Africa, sharing a western border with Morocco. Separated from the Iberian peninsula by the Strait of Gibraltar, Ceuta lies along the boundary between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Ceuta, along with the Spanish exclave Melilla, is one of two permanently inhabited Spanish territories in mainland Africa. It was part of Cádiz province until 14 March 1995 when the city's Statute of Autonomy was passed.
Ceuta, like Melilla, was a free port before Spain joined the European Union. As of 2011, it has a population of 82,376. Its population consists of Christians, Muslims (chiefly Arabic and Berber speakers), and small minorities of Jews and Indian Hindus. Spanish is the official language.
History
Ceuta's location has made it an important commercial trade and military way-point for many cultures, beginning with the Carthaginians in the 5th century BC, who called the city Abyla; initially, this was also its name in Greek and Latin. (It was known variously as Ancient Greek: Ἀβύλη, Ἀβύλα, Ἀβλύξ, Ἀβίλη στήλη – Abyle, Abila, Ablyx or Abile Stele – "Pillar of Abyle") and from Greek, Abyla (...Mons,...Columna, "Mount Abyla" or "Column of Abyla") in Latin. Together with Gibraltar on the European side, it formed one of the famous "Pillars of Hercules". Later, it was renamed for a formation of seven surrounding smaller mountains, collectively referred to as Septem Fratres ('[The] Seven Brothers') by Pomponius Mela, which lent their name to a Roman fortification known as Castellum ad Septem Fratres.

Ceuta (Spanish Congress Electoral District)
Ceuta is one of the 52 electoral districts (circunscripciones) used for the Spanish Congress of Deputies - the lower chamber of the Spanish Parliament, the Cortes Generales. It has the second smallest electorate of all the 52 districts and together with the other African enclave of Melilla it is one of just two single member districts in Congress.
Boundaries and electoral system
Under Article 68.2 of the Spanish constitution the constituency must be a single member district and the boundaries must be the same as the Autonomous City of Ceuta and under Article 140 this can only be altered with the approval of congress. Voting is on the basis of universal suffrage in a secret ballot. Officially, the electoral system used is closed list proportional representation with seats allocated using the D'Hondt method. The fact that Ceuta is a single member district means that in practice it uses the same first past the post system used in many anglophone countries like the United Kingdom and USA.

Migrants reach Spain's Ceuta enclave in record numbers – BBC News
At least 6,000 migrants have reached Spain's Ceuta enclave from neighbouring Morocco, a record number over a single day, Spanish officials say. They say the migrants - who include about 1,500 minors - either swam around the border fences that jut out into the sea or walked across at low tide. They are said to be mostly from Morocco. Spain says it has already sent some 2,700 back - but not the minors. Ceuta is a very interesting place, and also somewhere I had never heard of before, so join me on a journey of discovery, which also happens to be a ferry review with a look at the difference between travelling Standard Class and Premium. Thankfully there wasn't much difference in price as the layout was almost identical, with one big difference that means I'd ALWAYS choose Premium in future. Enjoy the video!

Outbound Wed 5th October 2022, 14:30/15:30, Standard, €34.90
Return Thu 6th October 2022, 13:00/14:00, Premium, €46.90
(I did hear someone enquire about upgrade to Premium whilst onboard, and I believe they were quoted €25 to do so! Therefore, well worth booking in advance!)
For a one hour ferry, I don't think this is cheap, but the difference between Standard and Premium is minimal.
I stayed at Hostal Central in Ceuta (booking.com £30). Bear in mind, there is a difference between a 'hostel' and a 'hostal' in Spain - Hostales tend to be much more like a budget hotel, and suitable for a guy of my age as well!

At least 6,000 migrants have reached Spain's Ceuta enclave from neighbouring Morocco, a record number over a single day, Spanish officials say.
They say the migrants - who include about 1,500 minors - either swam around the border fences that jut out into the sea or walked across at low tide.
They are said to be mostly from Morocco. Spain says it has already sent some 2,700 back - but not the minors.
Spanish troops have been deployed to the beach to help border police at Ceuta's main entry point - Tarajal, on the enclave's south side.

Ceuta and Melilla (see separate film) are unique autonomous cities located on the African coast. Centuries of European rule have set them apart from the Moroccan nation that surrounds them, both politically and culturally. Both the architecture and the gastronomy are recognisably Spanish, but with subtle twists resulting from their distinct geography.
Ceuta is easily reached by ferry or Catamaran from Algeciras (see separate film) and is well worth a visit. This film takes you on a walking tour of the city with a particular look at the many works of public art. A delicious meal at La Columna is also not to be missed.
"Ceuta emociona" is the slogan of the tourist board, and emotions are certainly stirred by the fantasy architecture of the Casa de los Dragones and the mighty sculptures of Hercules.

Ceuta is a very interesting place, and also somewhere I had never heard of before, so join me on a journey of discovery, which also happens to be a ferry review with a look at the difference between travelling Standard Class and Premium. Thankfully there wasn't much difference in price as the layout was almost identical, with one big difference that means I'd ALWAYS choose Premium in future. Enjoy the video!
Itinerary details
Outbound Wed 5th October 2022, 14:30/15:30, Standard, €34.90
Return Thu 6th October 2022, 13:00/14:00, Premium, €46.90
(I did hear someone enquire about upgrade to Premium whilst onboard, and I believe they were quoted €25 to do so! Therefore, well worth booking in advance!)
For a one hour ferry, I don't think this is cheap, but the difference between Standard and Premium is minimal.
I stayed at Hostal Central in Ceuta (booking.com £30). Bear in mind, there is a difference between a 'hostel' and a 'hostal' in Spain - Hostales tend to be much more like a budget hotel, and suitable for a guy of my age as well!

At least 6,000 migrants have reached Spain's Ceuta enclave from neighbouring Morocco, a record number over a single day, Spanish officials say.
They say the migrants - who include about 1,500 minors - either swam around the border fences that jut out into the sea or walked across at low tide.
They are said to be mostly from Morocco. Spain says it has already sent some 2,700 back - but not the minors.
Spanish troops have been deployed to the beach to help border police at Ceuta's main entry point - Tarajal, on the enclave's south side.

Ceuta (assimilated pronunciation /ˈsjuːtə/ SEW-tə, also /ˈseɪʊtə/ SAY-uu-tə;Spanish: [ˈθeuta] is an 18.5-square-kilometre (7.1 sq mi) Spanish autonomous city located on the north coast of Africa, sharing a western border with Morocco. Separated from the Iberian peninsula by the Strait of Gibraltar, Ceuta lies along the boundary between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Ceuta, along with the Spanish exclave Melilla, is one of two permanently inhabited Spanish territories in mainland Africa. It was part of Cádiz province until 14 March 1995 when the city's Statute of Autonomy was passed.
Ceuta, like Melilla, was a free port before Spain joined the European Union. As of 2011, it has a population of 82,376. Its population consists of Christians, Muslims (chiefly Arabic and Berber speakers), and small minorities of Jews and Indian Hindus. Spanish is the official language.
History
Ceuta's location has made it an important commercial trade and military way-point for many cultures, beginning with the Carthaginians in the 5th century BC, who called the city Abyla; initially, this was also its name in Greek and Latin. (It was known variously as Ancient Greek: Ἀβύλη, Ἀβύλα, Ἀβλύξ, Ἀβίλη στήλη – Abyle, Abila, Ablyx or Abile Stele – "Pillar of Abyle") and from Greek, Abyla (...Mons,...Columna, "Mount Abyla" or "Column of Abyla") in Latin. Together with Gibraltar on the European side, it formed one of the famous "Pillars of Hercules". Later, it was renamed for a formation of seven surrounding smaller mountains, collectively referred to as Septem Fratres ('[The] Seven Brothers') by Pomponius Mela, which lent their name to a Roman fortification known as Castellum ad Septem Fratres.
