Philippines Vlog: Banaue is located in the mountain province of Ifugao, Northern Luzon, Philippines. The Banaue Rice Terraces are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Getting to the Banaue Rice Terraces is much easier than the Rice Terraces of Batad. No trekking is required and for only 200 Pesos, you can hire a tricycle to drive you to the viewpoint. There are three main stops along the way, where you can get out and photograph the picturesque scenery. It was so quiet and beautiful, just gazing out into the valley of terraces creates such a calm positive energy, it's a feeling and memory that stays with you. xo, Christine

Philippines Vlog: The Batad Rice Terraces are a world heritage site, built 2000 years ago and passed on from generation to generation. While Batad is a difficult location to get to, the experience is a rewarding one. After arriving by jeepney in Banaue, we checked into the Banaue Hotel, dropped off our backpacks and headed out to the Banaue Tourist Information Center, where you can hire a guide and tricycle for about 1,200 pesos or a Jeepney for $2000 pesos. They'll drive you to Saddle Point at the top of the ridge. The trek begins there, it's a steep, rugged hike down the mountain side into the village of Batad. The trek is approximately 1 1/2 hours each way. We're visiting during the end of wet season and got caught in heavy rainfall on the trek down to the rice terraces, there were several landslides and rocky, slippery, sometimes muddy terrain. Best to wear good shoes, have a rain poncho with you and either a waterproof camera bag or ziplock bag to protect your gear. Thanks for watching. xo Christine

The Rice Terraces of the Philippine Cordilleras is an outstanding example of an evolved, living cultural landscape that can be traced as far back as two millennia ago in the pre-colonial Philippines. The terraces are located in the remote areas of the Philippine Cordillera mountain range on the northern island of Luzon. They are the product of the Ifugao ethnic group, a minority community that has occupied these mountains for thousands of years. Tourists can reach Batad village, the home of the famous rice terrace amphitheatre, via a jeepny from Banaue (1hr) and a short trek down the mountain side (45mins). From Batad you can walk across the rice terraces and down to an incredible waterfall about 1 hour away.

Follow us during our trip to the Philippines. We landed in Manila, did a short visit of the historic part of the city and then headed to Banaue. You will see beautiful landscapes, and Batad rice terraces. We then took a plane to El Nido and discovered another extraordinary part of the Philippines. Obviously this is not covering the whole country but it is known to be one of the best places to go. Sorry for the video intro it is a bit rude. :-) I filmed with a Canon 7D, not sure which lenses I had. Editing is with Final Cut. As for audio, many tracks come from Nova Tunes compilations, this is a French Radio and they always find great songs and artists. Enjoy !

This is what New Year's Eve looked like at the Banaue Hotel, located in the small mountain town at an elevation of about 4,000 feet, overlooking the ancient Banaue rice terraces in the Philippines. Angelle made no effort to stay up until midnight, but the children did, so they were exposed to this. Always eager to capitalize on teachable moments, I explained that this is why Daddy doesn't drink.
The Banaue Rice Terraces are 2,000-year-old terraces that were carved into the mountains of Ifugao in the Philippines by ancestors of the indigenous people. The Rice Terraces are commonly referred to by Filipinos as the "Eighth Wonder of the World".

Canberra Times 2014-02-05The Banaue Rice Terraces (Tagalog: Hagdan-hagdang Palayan ng Banawe) also called Payo, are 2000-year old terraces that were carved into the mountains of Ifugao in the Philippines by ancestors of the indigenous people. The Rice Terraces are commonly referred to by Filipinos as the "Eighth Wonder of the World". It is commonly thought that the terraces were built with minimal equipment, largely by hand. The terraces are located approximately 1500 meters (5000 ft) above sea level and cover 10,360 square kilometers (about 4000 square miles) of mountainside. They are fed by an ancient irrigation system from the rainforests above the terraces. It is said that if the steps are put end to end it would encircle half the globe.
Locals to this day still plant rice and vegetables on the terraces, although more and more younger Ifugaos do not find farming appealing, often opting for the more lucrative hospitality industry generated by the Rice Terraces[citation needed]. The result is the gradual erosion of the characteristic "steps", which need constant reconstruction and care. In 2010 a further problem was drought, with the terraces drying up completely in March of that year.
