Ever since the late 1950s, Chevrolet, an automotive outlet company of GM, produced the Corvair, a sports sedan that ran in production for more than a decade. Sales for the vehicle were high, the car had awesome performance, everything seemed normal. But... there was a few things that were left out of the nice painted picture that GM gives us of Performance, Power and Style and what GM kept secret... the car was not exactly safe to drive. One man would step up for consumer rights on this issue against GM and the Corvair, but the Corvair is not the only perp in unsafe vehicles. Find out more in this epic research project that I made just a year ago!
This is my revised contest entry for the 2013 National History Day Ohio State Contest for "Turning Points In History", winning the ribbon of Honorable Mention. Long story short, I had a lot of fun in Columbus. I do not own any music, pictures or video (except for the interview and CGI animations), fair use in non-profit and education. A couple of interviews with Corvair owners at the South 71 Cruiser's Cruise Night event this month. Lots of other cars there, but the Corvairs seemed like an interesting topic to record.

This classic commercial is probably Ralph Nader's (the guy who is probably responsible for "W" sitting in the Oval office) favorite TV commercial.
The ad starts with two guys floating off in a hot air balloon, and their girlfriends following them in their 1966 Corvair. They drive over rutted dirt roads, and effortlessedly climb small hills in the car that Ralph called "UNSAFE AT ANY SPEED."

The importance of an individual developing "civic skills" and a "civic personality" in order to bring about "social change" in our society, was raised by the activist, author and former presidential candidate, Ralph Nader. He said: "Democracy is like a river." He was appearing at a "Symposium on Free Speech," on September 17, 2007, in Baltimore, Maryland. The event was cosponsored by the Maryland Institute College of Arts (MICA) and the Maryland state branch of the ACLU. Before a capacity audience, Mr. Nader recalled how he was personally inspired as the result of the deaths of friends in automobile accidents in "low speed crashes" to write his best-selling 1965 book, "Unsafe at Any Speed." He labeled the carnage on the highways, "a blood bath."

Essentialy began as a side-project while its members played in other Chicago area bands Braid, Cap'n Jazz and Gauge. The Sky Corvair played its first show in October 1994 and recorded nine songs in December 1994. Not long after, Tim left the band to more intensely pursue Cap'n Jazz.
It was then Alex assumed the role of guitar player until the band's untimely demise in May 1995. Having written and recorded an addtional three songs with Alex, Actionboy has released a twelve song discography of their work.
Each of the original members went on to play in the bands Braid, Joan of Arc and Traluma just to name a few. While Alex has moved to Massachusetts to begin a career as a glass blowing apprentice.

Ralph Nader (
/ˈneɪdər/; born February 27, 1934) is an American political activist, as well as an author, lecturer, and attorney. Areas of particular concern to Nader include consumer protection, humanitarianism, environmentalism, and democratic government.
Nader came to prominence in 1965 with the publication of his book Unsafe at Any Speed, a critique of the safety record of American automobile manufacturers in general, and most famously the Chevrolet Corvair. In 1999, an NYU panel of journalists ranked Unsafe at Any Speed 38th among the top 100 pieces of journalism of the 20th century.
Nader is a six-time candidate for President of the United States, having run as a write-in candidate in the 1992 New Hampshire Democratic primary, as the Green Party nominee in 1996 and 2000, and as an independent candidate in 2004 and 2008. Some people claim that Nader acted as a spoiler in the 2000 U.S. presidential election, while others, including Nader, dispute this claim.
Nader was born in Winsted, Connecticut. His parents, Nathra and Rose (née Bouziane) Nader, were immigrants from Lebanon and members of the Maronite Church. His family's native language is Arabic, and he has spoken it along with English since childhood. His sister, Laura Nader, is an anthropologist. His father worked in a textile mill and later owned a bakery and restaurant where he talked politics with his customers.

Ever since the late 1950s, Chevrolet, an automotive outlet company of GM, produced the Corvair, a sports sedan that ran in production for more than a decade. Sales for the vehicle were high, the car had awesome performance, everything seemed normal. But... there was a few things that were left out of the nice painted picture that GM gives us of Performance, Power and Style and what GM kept secret... the car was not exactly safe to drive. A couple of interviews with Corvair owners at the South 71 Cruiser's Cruise Night event this month. Lots of other cars there, but the Corvairs seemed like an interesting topic to record. Ralph Nader on How He Came to Write: "Unsafe at Any Speed"
The importance of an individual developing "civic skills" and a "civic personality" in order to bring about "social change" in our society, was raised by the activist, author and former presidential candidate, Ralph Nader. He said: "Democracy is like a river." He was appearing at a "Symposium on Free Speech," on September 17, 2007, in Baltimore, Maryland. The event was cosponsored by the Maryland Institute College of Arts (MICA) and the Maryland state branch of the ACLU. Before a capacity audience, Mr. Nader recalled how he was personally inspired as the result of the deaths of friends in automobile accidents in "low speed crashes" to write his best-selling 1965 book, "Unsafe at Any Speed." He labeled the carnage on the highways, "a blood bath." -

Neil Sandler • bass, vocals Bob Nanna • drums, vocals Kevin J. Frank • guitar, vocals Tim Kinsella • guitar, vocals Alex J. Stisser • guitar from 3.95 to 5.95 Essentialy began as a side-project while its members played in other Chicago area bands Braid, Cap'n Jazz and Gauge. The Sky Corvair played its first show in October 1994 and recorded nine songs in December 1994. Not long after, Tim left the band to more intensely pursue Cap'n Jazz. It was then Alex assumed the role of guitar player until the band's untimely demise in May 1995. He said: "Democracy is like a river." He was appearing at a "Symposium on Free Speech," on September 17, 2007, in Baltimore, Maryland. The event was cosponsored by the Maryland Institute College of Arts (MICA) and the Maryland state branch of the ACLU. Before a capacity audience, Mr. Nader recalled how he was personally inspired as the result of the deaths of friends in automobile accidents in "low speed crashes" to write his best-selling 1965 book, "Unsafe at Any Speed." He labeled the carnage on the highways, "a blood bath."
