Plot
"Duke" Gordon ('Robert Armstrong (I)' (qv)), a circus lion-tamer, tries to tames his wife, Laura ('Sally Eilers' (qv)), just as he does his lions. But, she is a one-man woman, married to the wrong man, but refuses to cheat on her cheating husband even though her happiness depends on doing so.

Plot
Western pardners Jeff and Cash find a baby boy in an otherwise deserted emigrants' camp, and clash over which is to be "father." They are still bitterly feuding years later when they own adjacent ranches. Bill, the foundling whom Cash has raised to young manhood, wants to end the feud and extends an olive branch toward Jeff, who now has a lovely daughter. But during a mining venture, the bitterness escalates. Is Bill to be set against his own adoptive father?
Keywords: accidental-shooting, adopted-son, baby, banker, bar, cattle, confession-of-crime, confrontation, covered-wagon, cowboy
[Cash and Jeff rescue a baby from a deserted wagon]::Cash Holbrook: What have we got that'll feed his gizzard? He can't chaw jerky!::Jeff Cameron: Aw, you don't know nothin'. There's oatmeal gruel and a mite of bacon grease'll see him through.
Mary Ellen Cameron: Well, Dad, if they think they're going water cattle here tonight, here's two Winchesters who'll say they ain't!
Rance Brett: Miss, I'm from Montana and I'm headin' New Mexico way.::Jeff Cameron: What was your name in Montana?::Rance Brett: Brett - same as here! And I'm headin' New Mexico way. At least I was [glances at Mary Ellen] while I had a horse.
Bill Holbrook: Mary Ellen, look out there across the desert. As far as you can see, way off there in the distance... you see those big lonesome pinnacles? When I was a little boy, I used to lie out there evenings, watching the shadows pass over 'em. I used to imagine they were all sorts of things... dragons fighting... giants lying there sleeping... and great big monsters that might come down after it got dark and get me.::Mary Ellen Cameron: [giggle] I know. I used to think that way, too.::Bill Holbrook: You got over it, though.::Mary Ellen Cameron: Over it? Sure! As soon as I knew what they really was - just big rocks.::Bill Holbrook: But before that, you were a little bit afraid of them, weren't you?::Mary Ellen Cameron: Yes, I was.::Bill Holbrook: Well, it's just like that with folks. A way off in the distance of your mind there's a terrible man called Cash Holbrook. To you, he's been one of those awful monsters you used to imagine. But I've been up close to him - in the daylight - and to me, he's been a kind man... and mighty good.

JACK:
So that's what they call a family
Mother, daughter, father, son
Guess that everything you heard about is true
So you ain't got any family
Well who said you needed one?
Ain't you glad nobody's waiting up for you?
When I dream
On my own
I'm alone but I ain't lonely
For a dreamer night's the only time of day
When the city's finally sleeping
All my thoughts begin to stray
And I'm on the train
That's bound for Santa Fe
And I'm free
Like the wind
Like I'm gonna live forever
It's a feeling time can never take away!
All I need's a few more dollars
And I'm outta here to stay
Dreams come true
Yes they do
In Santa Fe
Where does it say you gotta live and die here?
Where does it say a guy can't catch a break?
Why should you only take what you're given
Why should you spend your whole life livin'
Trapped where there ain't no future
Even at seventeen
Breaking your back for someone else's sake
If the life don't seem to suit ya
How about a change of scene?
Far from the lousy headlines
And the deadlines in between
Santa Fe
Are you there?
Do you swear you won't forget me?
If I found you would you let me
Come and stay?
I ain't getting any younger
And before my dying day
I want space
Not just air
Let 'em laugh in my face
I don't care
Save a place
I'll be there
So that's what they call a family
Ain't you glad you ain't that way?
Ain't you glad you got a dream called
So that's what they call a family
Mother daughter father son
Guess that everything you heard about is true
So you aint got any family
Who said you needed one
Aint ya glad nobody's waiting up for you
When I dream on my own

Sante Fe
I'll be there
So that's what they call a family
Aint ya glad you aint that way
Aint ya glad you have a dream called
Santa Fe
They say that no man is an island
And good things come to those who wait
But the things I hear are there just to remind me
Every dog will have his day
The spirits, they intoxicate me
I watched them infiltrate my soul
They try to say it's too late for me
Tell my guns I'm coming home
I swear I'm gonna live forever
Tell my maker he can wait
I'm riding somewhere south of heaven
Heading back to Santa Fe
It's judgment day in Santa Fe
Once I was promised absolution
There's only one solution for my sins
You gotta face your ghosts and know with no illusions
That only one of you is going home again
And I blame this world for making a good man evil
It's this world that can drive a good man mad
And it's this world that turns a killer into a hero
Well I blame this world for making a good man bad
Now I ain't getting into heaven if the devil has his way
I swear I'm gonna live forever
Heading back to Santa Fe
Got debts to pay in Santa Fe
It's judgment day in Santa Fe
Lord have mercy
[Guitar solo]
So I save a prayer when I need it most
To the Father, Son and the Holy Ghost
And sign it from a sinner with no name
When I meet my maker
Will he close the book on the hearts I broke and the lives I took ?
Will he walk away 'cause my soul's too late to save ?
Now I ain't getting into heaven
If the devil has his way
I swear I'm gonna live forever
Heading back to Santa Fe
Got debts to pay in Santa Fe
It's judgment day in Santa Fe
Santa Fe
it's no good I'll have to go
drivin' me bloody crazy here
people and cars
planes
this song
your face
got to get a train
and go now I gotta leave
ain't no way
ain't no way
to make me stay in this old
hole gotta' leave.
Santa Fe.
Santa Fe.
Santa Fe.
Her turquoise lips kiss me like a lover.
Her silver eyes see right through my veins.
Her Indian heart asks when I'll return to her.
Her Spanish soul begs me to remain.
And no one that I've ever known can move me like she does.
No, it's not a woman that I love.
Santa Fe Santa Fe.
I have been here in your arms and now I want to stay.
Santa Fe Santa Fe.
I won't sleep 'till I'm back in Santa Fe.
Her sunrise could bring light into a blind man.
Her sunset could put tears there in his eyes.
Her colors are laying there in brush strokes.
Underneath those peote skies.
The lay of the land stirs all of my emotions.
She heals me with a laid back energy.
She holds onto my broken lifeless spirit.
And molds me just like pottery.
And nowhere that I've ever been can make me feel this way.
That's why I'm going there to stay.
Santa Fe Santa Fe
I have been there in your arms, now I want to stay.
Santa Fe Santa Fe
I won't sleep 'till I'm back Santa Fe.

so far from
I met you yesterday
set out on that train to bring you in
and what I've been
so long
so much
the glory rests and rides
apart from where we are
held off in santa fe
alone sometimes
we always will become
alive
feel like letting go to rise
held up in santa fe
fell out on my back
i broke my cool
for always had
and always would
to never end
sometime we get so far
we live through
woke up in Santa Fe
found i became so less of heart
feeling so wrong
to never let go of what you need at all
i met you yesterday
cut my hands
to see if i still bleed
she ran away
to never be seen again at all

Do You Know The Way To Santa Fe?
You Know, Tumbleweeds...Prairie Dogs...
All:
Train wheels runnin' down an open track
In my mem'ry time to take me back
Are you goin are you goin'
To Santa Fe
Do you need it
Can you feel it in the same old way
I can feel it from the mountain top
Runnin' down to the foamy brine
In a rest'rant 'cross a table top
Looking into a glass of wine
Whispering in the evening breeze
Green leaves裧list'ning eucalyptus trees
Can you hear them
Or get near them
Oh, Santa Fe
Do you need it
Can you feel it in the same old way
I can feel it when it all goes down
Look around and it's happening
Look around and see what I have found
And it's more than a song to sing
In the night I hear you callin'
And I'm thinkin' of you, darlin'
Santa Fe
Do you need it
Can you feel it in the same old way
I can feel it when it all goes down
Look around and it's happening
Look around and see what I have found
She was sitting in the corner of a cafe
In the burning heart of downtown Santa Fe
Picking on a Gibson and singing, "Baby Can't You See"
She was buzzing like a battlefield tracer
She was grinding like the gears on a Pacer
I said sister Bloody Mary, "Won't you do a little number for me?"
She said, "I'll sing you any song that you wanna hear
Just pull up a barstool and buy me another beer"
Take me away, take me away from here
Take me far away, Santa Fe, Santa Fe
He was living with some hippies in a school bus
They had puttered here from Boulder covered in dust
He said, "I know a little lady living 30 miles up the road"
I got a feeling that my ride ain't gonna take me
If I don't see my little lady it will break me
Another 24 hours here, I think I just might explode
I been doing everything I know and try to stay free
Working for the man and just ain't no kind of plan for me
So take me away, take where I wanna be
Take me far away Santa Fe, Santa Fe
That's right
I'll sing you any song that you wanna hear
It will sound a lot better if you have yourself another beer
So take me away, take me away from here
Take me far away Santa Fe, Santa Fe, Santa Fe
Call up the Santa Fe
Go and get them on the phone
And tell 'em to run one more train
Come and take an old man home
Gone and married off my daughter
And the war has claimed my son
Lord, you know, I had to bury (yeah)
The one I called my darling one
Lord, I'm so tired (tired) and so my friend, I've got to get back home again
I'm so tired (tired) and though it's been good, good bye
I hope I see you again
You know, parting is such sad sorrow
When you go and leave a friend
When you know there's no tomorrow
and you'll not see him again
Call up the Santa Fe
Go and get them on the phone
And tell them to run one more train
Come and take an old man home
I'm so tired (tired) and so my friend, I've got to get back home again
Lord, I'm tired (tired) and though it's been good, good bye

Your days in one
This day undone
(The kind that breaks under)
All day at once
(For me, for you)
I'm just too young

This day was once

All grace of lost
Can't wait at all
(Can't wait at all)
Temptation won
And what ever comes through the door
I'll see it face to face
All by your place
Sign me up Santa Fe
And call your son
Sign me up Santa Fe
On the cross Santa Fe
And all I want
Sign me up Santa Fe
And call your son
And I and I and I alone want you to know
And I and I and I alone
And I and I and I alone want you to know
And I and I and I alone
Your days in one

Santa-Fe,
Dear, dear, dear, dear, dear Santa-Fe,
My woman needs it ev'ryday,
She promised this a-lad she'd stay,
She's rollin' up a lotta bread
To toss away.
She's in Santa-Fe,
Dear, dear, dear, dear, dear Santa-Fe
Now she's opened up an old maid's home,
She's proud, but she needs to roam,
She's gonna write herself a roadside poem,
About Santa-Fe.
Santa-Fe,
Dear, dear, dear, dear Santa-Fe.
Since I'm never gonna cease to roam,
I'm never, ever far from home,
But I'll build a geodesic dome
And sail away.
Don't feel bad.
No, no, no, no, don't feel bad
It's the best food I've ever had.
Makes me feel so glad
That she's cooking in a home-made pad
She never caught a cold so bad
When I'm away.
Santa-Fe,
Dear, dear, dear, dear, dear, dear Santa-Fe.
My shrimp boat's in the bay
I won't have my nature this way,
And I'm leanin' on the wheel each day
To drift away
From Santa-Fe,
Dear, dear, dear, dear, dear Santa-Fe.
My sister looks good at home,
She's lickin' on an ice cream cone,
She's packin' her big white comb,
