Chevelle is an American alternative metal band that formed in 1995 in Grayslake, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. The band was originally composed of two brothers: Pete Loeffler (lead vocals/guitar), Sam Loeffler (drums/percussion) and Matt Scott (bass/backing vocals). Matt was later replaced by brother Joe Loeffler. When Joe left the band in 2005, Geno Lenardo subbed-in as the bassist until he was replaced by Pete and Sam's brother-in-law, Dean Bernardini.

Chevelle has sold over three million albums in the United States. The band's first full-length album, Point #1 was released on a small record label called Squint Entertainment. Chevelle's second album, Wonder What's Next, was certified Platinum by the RIAA after a debut at No. 14 on the United States albums chart, Billboard 200. This Type of Thinking (Could Do Us In), the band's third album debuted at No. 8 and has been certified Gold. Chevelle has since released a fourth album, Vena Sera, a fifth album, Sci-Fi Crimes, which was released on August 31, 2009, and a sixth album Hats Off to the Bull was released on December 6, 2011. Other releases from Chevelle include two live albums and DVDs.

Pete Loeffler (born October 19, 1976 in Grayslake, Illinois) is a musician, known for his work with the Chicago-area alternative metal band Chevelle, for which he is the lead vocalist and sole guitar player.

Pete tends to write abstract lyrics, but often directs them toward specific and sometimes humorous ideas. The track titled "Get Some" from their 3rd album This Type of Thinking (Could Do Us In) was written as an ode to the greed sparked by the contest American Idol—this was announced by the band onstage at the May 25th, 2007 show at the Town Ballroom in Buffalo, New York. Pete has said that "Forfeit", on the Wonder What's Next album, was written about overaggressive people in concert mosh pits.

"We gravitate toward making fun of big bruisers. That song 'Forfeit' is all about when there's a mosh pit, you always have that big tough guy out there who's trying to kill people. That song is making fun of those people. It's like, 'Yeah, I want you to jump around. Have a good time. . . . Vent. Go to a show and get lost for an hour or two in the music and enjoy. But don't go out and kick people's butts.'"

Dean Bernardini (born December 27, 1973 in Illinois) is the bass guitar player and backing vocalist for the hard rock band Chevelle, as well as being a brother-in-law to the Loefflers. He joined the band in 2005 after the departure of Joe Loeffler, who had been a member of the group since 1995. The cover of the 2009 album Sci-Fi Crimes was an original 24x48 oil on canvas painting created by Dean.

In May 2006, he injured his left hand forcing them to cancel 8 concerts (from June 30 to July 26) with Nickelback and Hoobastank.

Dean uses Gibson Thunderbird bass guitars with Mesa Boogie Big Block 750 amplifiers and Mesa 8x10 cabinets for both clean and distorted tones.

In the past Bernardini has also used Ampeg SVT's and matching cabinets with a Boss ODB-3 or Mesa Boogie V-Twin pedal for overdriven tones. His current pedalboard consists of a BBE Sonic Maximizer, Peterson Strobostomp Tuner, and the Big Block's footswitch. In the studio he used a combination of Mesa Big Block 750 and Pete Loeffler's Ampeg V4. A video of the recording of Chevelle's album Sci-Fi Crimes shows Dean using an Ibanez BTB 1305E bass, though he has not played this during live shows.
