Tomorrowland Review: Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow

Tomorrowland is a goofy, good-natured film about optimism, '60s-era futurism and rampant Disney nostalgia. It's best when it pokes fun at some of its smarmier bits, which it does often, but not often enough to dispel a generally saccharine vibe. The film centers on the dual adventures of Frank Walker — a brilliant boy inventor who goes to the 1964 New York World's Fair with his prototype jetpack (and ends up in a mysterious, futuristic world); and Casey Newton (Britt Robertson), a present-day girl genius who scores a mysterious invite to Tomorrowland herself. The film takes place mostly in the present day, where dystopian fiction and doomsday predictions about the environment, war and disease threaten to bring the world to its knees. Newton, though, is a dreamer, and her quest to...

Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition has secret exits — here's how they work

Watch in 60fps on YouTube | Subscribe to Polygon on YouTube Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition hits North America tomorrow (or this evening  on the 3DS eShop, for the truly dedicated), and one of the Mario touches developer Gungho Online has added is secret goals: basically, hidden exits on certain stages that lead to entire new stages players would otherwise miss — a mechanic you might remember from a little game called Super Mario World. Above, we show you how to access World 1-5 through World 1-4's secret exit, plus explain the somewhat unintuitive strategy required to open it up. Puzzle & Dragons Z + Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition launches May 22 on 3DS for $29.99.

Square Enix's Play Arts Variant figures have already tackled alternate renditions of Iron Man and Star Wars, and now it's time for Marvel's hammer-wielding god of thunder to get his makeover. We need a new name for developers who aren't quite indies, or AAA

So this article about how big indie games are ruining Kickstarter for "actual indie" developers was an interesting read. It got me wondering, should these bigger developers such as Tim Schafer really be considered indies? For one, they have huge followings, and they're no stranger to multi-million dollar budgets. What comes after the indie badge though? Take a look at Double Fine, they're definitely independent and like Bungie it seems unfair to put them in the same category as a developer who needs to fight hard to raise capital. Mighty No. 9, Bloodstained - these games are in a different league in terms of support within the industry so the question is as follows. What else can call them? Let's take suggestions here, because "big indies" and "post indies" aren't great monikers. ...

See Overwatch's master bowman (and dragon summoner) Hanzo in action

Blizzard Entertainment continues its gameplay previews of team-based shooter Overwatch today with an extended look at Hanzo, the bow and arrow-wielding assassin who's also pretty skilled with summoning a giant, murderous spirit dragon. Hanzo can use his arrows in a variety of ways, including the standard Storm Bow shot, the Sonic Arrow — which can track nearby enemies — and the Scatter Arrow, which fires a spread of projectiles to take down multiple foes. His flashiest attack is his Dragonstrike, the ultimate ability that brings forth a massive, spiraling dragon that passes through walls and kills anything in its path. You can see Hanzo in action in nine minutes of new gameplay from Overwatch. Blizzard released similar gameplay videos of three other Overwatch characters, Zenyatta, M...
