Two nights checking out the old town center of Bratislava, Most SNP bridge, Devin castle, and partying in a bomb shelter. Subscribe and Check out my other travel videos! Blog | http://www.aperezvoyages.com Instagram | JerseyBoy88 Facebook Page | https://www.facebook.com/pages/A-Perez-Voyages/287145441393779 Going from Vienna to Bratislava was an experience I expected but long anticipated, from graffiti in the streets, to stronger language barriers, to the fantastic nightlife. After arriving at Bratislava hlavná stanica, I walked towards the city center to my hostel, about 1 block from the center. The one thing I loved about this city is that it is easy to navigate. And better yet, you can see much of the city highlights in just one day. After getting settled in my hostel, I walked up to the Slavin War Memorial that commemorates the many Soviet soldiers that died during World War II. From there I took a tram to the infamous Bratislavsky Hrad / Bratislava Castle for gorgeous views of the whole city, Most SNP, Petržalka, and the Danube River all during sunset. From there I crossed the Staromestská ulica into the old city center, where you get a taste of the towns history within the fortified walls. Walking down the many cobble stoned alleys, grabbing a Slovak meal, and climbing to the top of the Michaels Gate / Michalská brána for even more views of the city. A few hours later I took the 93 bus from Hodžovo nám across the Danube to Petržalka to take a ride up to the Most SNP UFO, an observation deck with 360 degree panoramic views of Bratislava, Petržalka, and much of the Austrian border. Below the roof sits a nice loungy restaurant where I had a delicious Slovak beer enjoying views of the Castle and city center. After more relaxation at the hostel, I set off to a long desired club experience at Subclub, a former bomb shelter turned nightclub below the Bratislava Castle deep in the ground of Bratislava. It was this very experience that made me work hard on trying to see Bratislava during the weekend. As a life long lover of EDM music, house and techno in this bomb shelter did a lot of justice during my stay. AMAZING EXPERIENCE. Next day was an interesting one as I made a dedicated attempt to see a castle in the Village of Beckov, Slovakia. After missing one train, I got on the wrong train leaving me lost in the wrong town for about an hour. After getting on the right train with some help from a local, I found my way to the right city, only to find out that the bus service to the castle did not run on Saturdays. After being approached my a lady who at first was helping me understand this bus issue, she then tried to lead me to a hotel and when that failed, she insisted on having her "son" pick us up and take us there. With my options running low and all the obstacles I had faced, and the cost of a taxi ride there and back, I decided to head back to Bratislava. I made a venture to a castle that is much easier to access, Hrad Devin / Devin Castle, ruins that sit on a rock overlooking the Austrian border and the village. After I headed back after a long day, enjoyed yet another good meal and brew at the hostel restaurant before a final night walk through town and to my favorite bomb shelter club for my favorite music, Drum and Bass. Next day I woke up early and set off for the Czech Republic. I not only loved Slovakia for its bomb shelter night club and beautiful landmarks, but despite the mishaps I faced, I still came across fantastic, friendly, and warm locals throughout my stay. As for budget travel, Slovakia was by far the cheapest and most budget friendly Europe destinations I've been to so far. I shall return Slovakia. noodls 2015-04-05Bratislava ([ˈbracɪslava] ( listen); German: Pressburg formerly Preßburg, Hungarian: Pozsony) is the capital of Slovakia and, with a population of about 460,000, also the country's largest city. Bratislava is in southwestern Slovakia on both banks of the Danube River. Bordering Austria and Hungary, it is the only national capital that borders two independent countries.
Bratislava is the political, cultural, and economic centre of Slovakia. It is the seat of the Slovak president, the parliament, and the Slovak Executive. It is home to several universities, museums, theatres, galleries and other important cultural and educational institutions. Many of Slovakia's large businesses and financial institutions also have headquarters there.
The history of the city, long known in English by the German name Preßburg, has been strongly influenced by people of different nations and religions, namely by Austrians, Czechs, Germans, Hungarians, Slovaks, and Jews. The city was the capital of the Kingdom of Hungary, a part of the larger Habsburg Monarchy territories, from 1536 to 1783 and has been home to many Slovak, Hungarian, and German historical figures.
Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson (born October 25, 1984), known by her stage name Katy Perry, is an American singer, songwriter and actress. Perry grew up with gospel music, and during her first year of high school she pursued a music career as Katy Hudson, releasing her first studio album called Katy Hudson which failed to chart. She recorded a solo album later, which was never released. After signing with Capitol Music Group in 2007, her fourth record label in seven years, she adopted the stage name Katy Perry.
She first gained recognition with the release of her first mainstream album, One of the Boys in 2008, which spawned three Billboard Hot 100 top-ten songs—"I Kissed A Girl", "Hot n Cold" and "Waking Up In Vegas". Perry supported the album with her Hello Katy Tour. In 2010, her third studio album, Teenage Dream (2010), which topped the Billboard 200 chart, and spawned five number one singles—"California Gurls", "Teenage Dream", "Firework", "E.T." and "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)"—Teenage Dream was the only album (after Michael Jackson's Bad)—to do so, and the first female in history to achieve this milestone. She embarked on the California Dreams Tour, which grossed nearly $60 million worldwide. Perry re-released the album under the name of Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection on March 26, 2012, and the re-release has already spawned the number-one single "Part of Me".
Dark horse is a term used to describe a little-known person or thing that emerges to prominence, especially in a competition of some sort or a contestant that seems unlikely to succeed.
The term began as horse racing parlance. A dark horse is a race horse that is not known to gamblers and thus is difficult to place betting odds on.
The earliest-known use of the phrase is in Benjamin Disraeli's novel The Young Duke (1831). Disraeli's protagonist, the Duke of St. James, attends a horse race with a surprise finish: "A dark horse which had never been thought of, and which the careless St. James had never even observed in the list, rushed past the grandstand in sweeping triumph."
The term has been used politically in such countries as Peru, Philippines and United States.
Politically, the term reached America in the nineteenth century when it was first applied to James K. Polk, a relatively unknown Tennessee Democrat who won the Democratic Party's 1844 presidential nomination over a host of better-known candidates. Polk won the nomination on the ninth ballot, and went on to win the presidential election.

" "Bratislava" is a celebratory march for the Slovakian capital-- a sweaty, saw-dusted cabaret jam with Gogol Bordello. It's at moments like these, his vocals placed further back in the mix, that you realize the kid sounds truly authentic and captivating."
