Baltimore ( /ˈbɒltɨmɔr/, colloquially /ˈbɔl.mɔr/) is the largest city in the U.S. state of Maryland. It is located in the central area of the state along the tidal portion of the Patapsco River, an arm of the Chesapeake Bay. The independent city is often referred to as Baltimore City to distinguish it from surrounding Baltimore County.
Founded in 1729, Baltimore is the largest seaport in the Mid-Atlantic United States and is situated closer to Midwestern markets than any other major seaport on the East Coast. Baltimore's Inner Harbor was once the second leading port of entry for immigrants to the United States and a major manufacturing center. After a decline in manufacturing, Baltimore shifted to a service-oriented economy.
At 620,961 residents in 2010, Baltimore's population has decreased by one-third since its peak in 1950. The Baltimore Metropolitan Area has grown steadily to approximately 2.7 million residents in 2010; the 20th largest in the country. Baltimore is also a principal city in the larger Baltimore–Washington combined statistical area of approximately 8.4 million residents.
Plot
A shipping clerk named Turtletaub starts his own business knowing only that he intends either to create a product or to provide a service, and whichever one it is, he pledges, it will be good... for everyone. Turtletaub hires an awkward, kind day laborer (Ernesto) as his assistant and a confident yet conflicted salesman (Baltimore) as his sales force. Now all that Turtletaub needs is to figure out what it is that his business will do. But there is constant noise streaming through the vent in the ceiling of Turtletaub's unit, and the landlord keeps giving Turtletaub the run around, and his salesman has somehow started bringing in investment money even though they do not know what it is that their business does, and Turtletaub is not sure what it is, exactly, that he owes these investors. As the pressure builds and things start to move, Turtletaub seems farther and farther away from having his idea. Until one night, it hits... and it's great...

I know I've seen this place before
Lord can't you hear me screaming
As a young man long ago
When I was twenty-one
And I know I've seen this house before
With people all around it
With my baby cousin on the floor
And mama in the kitchen
And a woman lies upon the bed
I think she must be dying
And I recall the words she said
As she began to cry
She begged son please don't go to baltimore
And leave me where I'm lying
For you will son but I no more
Walk among the living
And if you go to baltimore
Then I'll see you in heaven
And as you breathe I'll breathe no more
And I will surely die
Well you know I went to baltimore
So confident and wise
And as I breathed she breathed no more
And she did surely die
And now as I lie upon my bed
I pray I must be dreaming
With faces all around my head
And strangers at my door
And a woman's voice calls out to me
Bring unto you your children
And let them see these things you see
And hear the words you say
Beg them to go to baltimore
And leave you where you're lying
Just like you did one time before
When you were twenty-one
And if they go to baltimore
Then I'll see you in heaven
And as they breathe you'll breathe no more
And you will surely die
And I know I've seen this place before
Lord can't you hear me screaming
And if I should awaken lord
Then answer me my plea
What makes the sun set in the west
And birds fly in the sky
And what makes a woman beat her breast
When her children start to cry
And what makes those little ones grow old
To find eternity
And what takes the wise
And leaves behind
I woke up this evening sweat soaked and paranoid from
this fever
I've been shaking for days (I've been shaking for days)
I always was a bookmark for your bad intentions
So say you're sorry too and I'll call the truce to
finally end this
This is me letting go
I'll explain myself in detail with "I don't love you
anymore"
Now if you ever fucking thought I couldn't make it on
my own,
That I would bend and break under pressure and all this
weight you never knew me at all
Don't wait up, I've been gone, so have you for far too
long
Do you think about your sins when you lay in bed with
him
I held on to my pride, you went down without a fight
I'm the best I've ever been now that I'm out of your
life
This isn't me, I'm not the man my father raised me to
be
Where did we go
I've been driving with my eyes closed
You keep asking and I'll keep giving
Maybe one day I'll be forgiving
Don't wait up, I've been gone, so have you for far too
long
Do you think about your sins when you lay in bed with
him
I held on to my pride, you went down without a fight
I'm the best I've ever been now that I'm out of your
life

Beat-up little seagull
On a marble stair
Tryin' to find the ocean
Lookin' everywhere
Hard times in the city
In a hard town by the sea
Ain't nowhere to run to
There ain't nothin' here for free
Hooker on the corner
Waitin' for a train
Drunk lyin' on the sidewalk
Sleepin' in the rain
And they hide their faces
And they hide their eyes
'Cause the city's dyin'
And they don't know why
Oh, Baltimore
Man, it's hard just to live
Oh, Baltimore
Man, it's hard just to live, just to live
Get my sister Sandy
And my little brother Ray
Buy a big old wagon
Gonna haul us all away
Livin' in the country
Where the mountain's high
Never comin' back here
'Til the day I die
Oh, Baltimore
Man, it's hard just to live
Oh, Baltimore

I'm shaking, I'm breaking down.
Everyone's around.
I'd like to spend some time alone,
maybe further away from home,
but that would be too much to ask.
Leave me alone.
Everyone is trying to pull us apart,
but you know we won't let them.
Will we sweetheart?
So build the walls and call the men,
our enemies march again.
The tide is coming in.
What I'd give to break their necks,
to put a bullet through their chests.
Violence to make a peace.
A dream of you and me.
I'd give them everything they wish,
down to that last timely kiss,
We can take it, we can make it.
These streets can't be tougher than sea.
Baltimore, you're potholes bore me.
Can't you see you're acting poorly?
Oooh oohh oohh ohh (x2)
Can we get a job, can we get a job?
We need off this dock.
Is that asking alot? (x2)
Now I've seen it all before, when no one's opened up their door.
How is one meant to survive when one is over-qualified?
Ooh ooh, ooh ooh.
Ooh ooh, ooh ooh.
Oooh ooh, ooh ooh.
Tom Meltzer
Once we won the Series, took it going away
Once we sat on top of the NFL and the NBA
But all that's over now, time went and slammed the door
And even I packed up and left the city of Baltimore
You know, the older we get the more we stay the same
I just found out my radio can pick up the Oriole games
I tune in every half-an-hour to get the score
And remember the day's when I was growing up in Baltimore
Back then I lived in a house, not a one-room flat
I didn't have to work or buy food or do anything like that
And the first girl that I ever loved lived right next door
At night I'd take my dad's car and drive around Baltimore
Something tells me this picture isn't right
Like I'm forgetting how I smashed my dad's car driving stoned one night
How my parents fought, how I never even dated the girl next door
How I was just a lonely mixed-up kid in Baltimore
Looking back now, you know I do believe
When I lived in Baltimore, I couldn't wait to leave
Go somewhere else and get a brand-new start
Now I'm dressing up the past 'cause the present is falling apart
The older we get the more we stay the same
Chasing after something that doesn't even have a name
You know, we'll always trade what we've got for what we had before
Everybody's a fool for something, I'm a fool for Baltimore
Twenty one and one-half years agoI woke up crying in
suburban Baltimore.
Some fucker kicked me out the door.
Three and three-fourth years ago
I wandered home and woke up sighing
Everything was different.
All the people were confiding in me.
Every now and again
I go back to where it all began.
I kind of wish I didn't,
But I like to see my friends.
Oh, Baltimore!
You make me smile.
You make me happy.
We'll be together in a while.
When I was a kid,
The proudest I had ever been
Was when I didn't hit my sister
For a several hour stint.
When I cleaned the carpet
With a bottle of shampoo
I didn't want to get in trouble.
I just wanted to clean you,
Because everybody knows
That you're a dirty fucking town,
But I've got memories
That keep me coming back just for another round.
Oh, Baltimore!
You make me smile.
You make me happy.
We'll be together in a while.
Oh, Baltimore!
You make me smile.
You make me happy.
We'll be together in a while.
Oh, Baltimore!
You make me smile.
You make me happy.
Tomorrow I will climb aboard
A northbound train to Baltimore
And hopes we'd leave with lips and not a fight
And I'm not sure just where I'll be
But I'll find you when I find sleep and
I'll think of times you spent with me
So please.
Just keep your head on your shoulders
And heart on your sleeve
And you're thinking about what you do to me
So take the time that I gave you and save it for me
So let's get carried away
Not lose ourselves in the fight
Let's show the world we were right,
That we can make it through.
And I may be leading the way
But you will always be my light.
And I will always love you.
I take a step into the rain
To make sure I can feel again
The way it hits my skin feels like a tear
And I would love to be the song you sing
To everyone, for everything
Just tell me when this melody is clear
'Cause I can hear you get colder
And tell when you're numb
And you're sure you're attached to the wrong one
And I can tell you the time and the day this'll come
So let's get carried away
Not lose ourselves in the fight
Let's show the world we were right,
That we can make it through.
And I may be leading the way
But you will always be my light.
And I will always love you.
I turned off the radio
So that I could hear you breathe.
And I could watch you sleep
And maybe in your dreams there could be me
So everybody turn down the lights
And forget the fact that we're here the night
And tomorrow I'm leaving
'Cause tomorrow don't mean anything tonight
It don't mean anything,
It don't mean anything tonight.
So let's get carried away
Not lose ourselves in the fight
Let's show the world we were right,
That we can make it through.
And I may be leading the way
But you will always be my light.
And I will always love you.
(Tommorrow I will climb aboard
A northbound train to Baltimore
And hoped we'd leave with lips and not a fight)
I will always love you.
It's so nice to live here
I'm glad this is my home
I've got a homestead on Baltimore Street
It's someplace to call my own
It's all kinds of people
Familiar places, smiling faces
I'm proud to say I'm a Baltimorian
But the 'Birds' are the best
The best of Baltimore
We like it here in Baltimore
There's so much love in Baltimore
Working hand in hand
To make this place a better land
In Baltimore
Love is what you'll find
So stop and take the time
I've got Oriole Baseball on my mind
We like it here in Baltimore
There's so much love in Baltimore
Working hand in hand
To make this place a better land
In Baltimore
Love is what you'll find
So stop and take the time
To enjoy the brotherhood of Baltimore
The sun sets across the bay
I'm glad I spend my day
In a working American city
With all the people who make it that way
It's time to jump in a taxi
For Thirty-third Street
Knowing I'll be watching those 'Birds' go,
Watching Weaver's Show
We like it here in Baltimore
There's so much love in Baltimore
Working hand in hand
To make this place a better land
In Baltimore
Love is what you'll find
So stop and take the time
I've got Oriole Baseball on my mind
On my mind in Baltimore
Come on like gangbusters laying it thick
Arboreal sleastacks(?) lost in the sticks
Its warm for a Witch trial
Dont you agree?
Cold are the hands that would ever touch me
You got the energy of a classic creep
With sex vibe for miles and shark eyes asleep
No intuition
No need to sleuth
Poor is the man who would sully my youth
A one-minute story is all that you are
A song undeveloped beyond the first bar
For all of your hassle
What did you win?
Woe is the man with the Cheshire cat grin
You criticise life
You criticise pain
You criticise situations youve never been in
The dames with the dilettantes
Will come soon enough
All right
The panic is leaking
From every clear pore
Youre Emmas weakened acetylene torch(?)
Surrender the crucifix
On the scorpal arise
Alright
Im in love with the people
Im in love with a saint
Im in love with a soldier
From Baltimore
When I walked past the chain link fence
And the guard dog came forward to attack me
I knew you were coming home
I knew you were on your way back
Well, in Baltimore
You will find what you've been waiting for
In Baltimore
You will find what you've been waiting for
Just beyond the last of the sidewalk
Where the beach begins
I heard the airplanes announcing the apocalypse
Saw the 737s coming on in
Will you hold on for just a minute
Will you hold on while I catch my breath
Listen, in Baltimore
You'll uncover what you're digging for
In Baltimore, ah
