Local broadcaster KIRO reported on Thursday, a body believed to be that of missing actress Misty Upham, who played a housekeeper in the movie adaption of "August: Osage County," has been found in the Seattle area. Auburn Police Commander Steve Stocker said, the 32 year-old acclaimed Native American actress, was reported missing by her father on Oct. 6, after she was last seen walking by herself from an apartment the day before around Auburn, some 20 miles south of Seattle.
Police Find Missing Actress Misty Upham's Body, Identity Is Confirmed.
After police in Auburn, Washington, found a body at the bottom of a 150-foot embankment near Forest Ridge Drive near the White River on Thursday, the actress's father, Charles Upham, confirmed her identity to the authorities
After a body was found Thursday believed to be that of “August: Osage County” actress Misty Upham, filmmaker friend and family spokesperson Tracy Rector confirmed that the body has been identified as Upham. She was 32.
Upham was found dead in Seattle suburb Auburn in a wooded area. While police were not originally sure the body was Upham’s, they did report that a purse was near the body containing identification of the actress.
Rector told Variety that she and the family believes the Auburn Police Department could have done more to locate the actress.
“We just want to make it clear that the Auburn police had nothing to do with looking for her or finding her,” she said. “It was friends and family that led the search and rescue teams that found Misty.”
Rector says friends and family confirmed her body at 6 p.m. Thursday, and that no cause of death has been revealed yet.
A statement on the Auburn Police Department Facebook page said it took five hours and a 10-person team to recover the body.
“The Auburn Police Department states that there is no initial evidence or information to indicate foul play; however the Medical Examiner will make the final determination,” the statement wrote.
Upham, also known for roles in “Frozen River” and “Django Unchained,” was reported missing by her family on Oct. 6, a day after they told police she was suicidal. Her father, Charles Upham, noted that she had stopped taking her medication for anxiety and bi-polar disorder.
Upham had moved to Seattle to help care for her father, who was recovering from a stroke. Charles Upham said that he didn’t believe his daughter would commit suicide, saying she “just decided to leave home for awhile.”
“She doesn’t believe in killing herself,” he told KIRO-TV. “She believes that is a sin and she would never do that.”
Misty Upham played Johnna Monevata in “August: Osage County,” the cast of which was nominated for a 2014 SAG Award. She was also nominated for an Independent Spirit Award in 2009 for her work in “Frozen River.”
The King County Coroner’s Office is expected to make a statement on the death on Friday.

Upham, known for roles in August: Osage County and Django Unchained, had been missing since 6 October.
Her body was found following a search of the area by friends and family. Her father, Charles Upham, confirmed her identity to the authorities.
The Native American actress was understood to have suffered from bipolar disorder.
Police Commander Steve Stocker said there was presently no evidence or information "to believe there is foul play."

After police in Auburn, Washington, found a body at the bottom of a 150-foot embankment near Forest Ridge Drive near the White River on Thursday, the actress's father, Charles Upham, confirmed her identity to the authorities, according to the Hollywood Reporter".
Cause of death has yet to be determined.
"We waited at the site where the team found the body," Seattle-based filmmaker Tracy Rector, a longtime friend of Upham's and a member of the search party, said late Thursday night. "It took about 5½ hours to confirm. Then we gathered around her body to say prayers and now we're all gathered at the church."
The 32-year-old Native American actress, known for her roles in August: Osage County and Django Unchained, had been missing since Oct. 6.
Upham was born on the Blackfeet reservation in Montana, and her family moved to Seattle when she was 8, reported the Seattle Times, which quoted an interview she gave Distinctly Montana Magazine earlier this year: "I needed to leave [the reservation]. My idea was to go to the nearest city and go to the first theater I could find. I would watch movies, take breaks and eat."

Misty Upham: ‘August: Osage County’ Actress Missing In Washington State. So sad. The ‘August: Osage County’ actress’ father claims she has been missing for six days. Charles Upham says his daughter, who has a ‘medical condition,’ has not been in contact with her family or friends since her disappearance.
Actress Misty Upham, 32, was reported missing by her father on Oct. 6, and was last seen leaving her apartment on Oct. 5 in Auburn, Washington. The August: Osage County actress, who was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for her role in 2008’s Frozen River, has been missing for six days.
Misty Upham Missing — ‘August: Osage County’ Actress Disappeared
“Our officers responded to her apartment where she lives with her parents on Sunday for a suicidal call. When our officers got there, she had already packed up some belongings and left the apartment, so the officers were not able to contact or find her,” Commander Steve Stocker told PEOPLE.
The following day, Misty’s father wanted to report her as officially missing, but the actress does not fit the criteria for a “missing and endangered person,” per Washington state law. Apparently, the person’s absence must be “unexplainable, involuntary or suspicious,” according to Steve.
“As far as the information we have, she took some things with her, she has a bus pass and even access to some money, and [the case] has been assigned to a detective, but we aren’t putting resources [to look for her],” Steve said.
In the last year, police have responded to Misty’s apartment four times due to suicidal calls. And according to police reports, this isn’t the first time the actress has mysteriously left her residence.
Misty Upham Disappeared: Dad Pleads For Actress’ Safe Return
“She has not been in contact with her family or friends since her disappearance,” Misty’s father, Charles Upham, wrote in an emotional statement to the media. He also said his daughter has an unspecified “medical condition.”
“She had recently changed her medication, so she was sort of having erratic behavior. She told me and her mom that we didn’t have to worry about her anymore. … I thought it sounded suicidal myself, so I called the police. She’s always been a suicidal person,” he told the Hollywood Reporter. “She used to make [suicide] threats sometimes, but she never went through with it.”
“I think that she is either in a place where she can’t get help – maybe she fell down and broke her leg and something, or she got in with the wrong crowd. I don’t think she would have taken her own life. I don’t want to think she is dead,” he added.
“We are doing everything within our means to bring our daughter home safe,” her family wrote on Misty’s Facebook page.
Earlier this year, Misty was filming a new movie, Cake, alongside Jennifer Aniston.
If you have any information on Misty’s disappearance, please contact the Auburn police department at (253) 288-2121. We’re hoping for her safe return.

Just hours after Misty Upham's parents officially confirmed her passing, the late actress' close friend Juliette Lewis has taken to Twitter to mourn her loss while also slamming the reports claiming that Upham's death was a suicide. The 41-year-old Cape Fear star, who co-starred with Misty in the 2013 drama August: Osage County, shared a photo with her pal on Instagram and praised Upham for her kindhearted presence. Misty's father, Charles Upham, had previously stated that his daughter suffered from bipolar disorder and was off her medication when she disappeared, leading him to believe that she may have been suicidal. Lewis, meanwhile, is pleading for a further police investigation in addition to claiming that Misty feared for her life before her death.
