Gia Marie Carangi (January 29, 1960 – November 18, 1986) was an American fashion model during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Carangi is considered by some to be the first supermodel, although that title has been applied to others, including Janice Dickinson,Dorian Leigh, and Jean Shrimpton. Model Cindy Crawford was later referred to as "Baby Gia" due to her resemblance to Carangi.
Carangi was featured on the cover of fashion magazines, including Vogue, April 1, 1979; Vogue Paris, April 1979; American Vogue, August 1980; Vogue Paris, August 1980; Italian Vogue, January 1981; and several issues of Cosmopolitan between 1979 and 1982.
After she became addicted to heroin, Carangi's modeling career rapidly declined. She later became infected with HIV which suddenly claimed her life at the age of 26. Her death was not widely publicized and few people in the fashion industry knew of it. Carangi is thought to be one of the first famous women to die of AIDS.Gia, a biographical film starring Angelina Jolie, debuted on HBO in 1998.
Francesco Scavullo (January 16, 1921 – January 6, 2004) was an American fashion photographer best known for his work on the covers of Cosmopolitan and his celebrity portraits.
Born in Staten Island, Scavullo began to pursue his fascination with images of beauty by picking up his father's camera and taking snapshots, using his sisters as models. After graduating from high school in 1945, Scavullo began working for a studio that produced fashion catalogs. He soon moved on to Vogue. Scavullo spent three years as Horst P. Horst's assistant, studying Horst's techniques. In 1948, he created a cover for Seventeen that won him a contract with the magazine. Scavullo's soon opened his own studio in Manhattan.
In 1969, Scavullo painted singer Janis Joplin, with a cigarette in her hand, a picture exhibited at the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth, Texas. The museum poster refers to Joplin, who died in 1970, as having a "free-spirited fervor of the counterculture revolution."
Some of Scavullo's more controversial work included a Cosmospolitan centerfold of a nude Burt Reynolds, and photographs of a young Brooke Shields that some considered overly sexual. He also befriended a young teenager from Philadelphia, future supermodel Gia Carangi, whose career he was largely responsible for launching. Later, when Carangi's heroin addiction made it impossible for her to find work, Scavullo continued to employ her and support her until her eventual death from complications relating to AIDS.
Carol Ann Alt (born December 1, 1960) is an American model and actress.
Alt was born in Flushing, Queens, New York, the daughter of Muriel, an airline employee and model, and Anthony Alt, a fire chief. She was noticed waiting tables in her hometown of East Williston, New York. When she was 18, she decided to try modeling as a summer job to save money for college. She is of German, Belgian and Irish descent.
Alt's first big break in modeling was in 1980, when she was featured on the cover of Harper's Bazaar magazine, but she gained real fame in 1982 when she was featured on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. During the 1980s she appeared on over 500 magazine covers, becoming one the most famous models of her era. Alt was referred to as "The Face" by Life Magazine. During the height of her popularity, she was the face of ad campaigns for Diet Pepsi, General Motors, Cover Girl Cosmetics, Noxzema, Hanes and numerous others. She was the first model to produce her own posters and calendars.[citation needed] As the eighties were winding down, Alt switched from fashion modeling to acting.
Henry Edward "Harry" King (1886–1968) was an English footballer.
King was born in Northampton, Northamptonshire and began his career at Evesham Star and Worcester City, before joining Birmingham in 1907. A centre-forward, he played 29 games and scored six goals for the Second Division side in two seasons. However, he could not cement a first team place and left in 1909. Over the next five years, he had spells at non-league Crewe Alexandra and then Northampton Town.
In April 1914 he joined Arsenal, returning to League football. Arsenal had just missed out on promotion on goal average to the First Division, and in 1914-15 King spearheaded their attack, scoring 26 goals in the League and another three in the FA Cup. These included the very first hat trick scored at their new Highbury stadium (against Grimsby Town on November 14, 1914), and two four-goal hauls against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Nottingham Forest. King's 29 goals that season were an all-time club record at the time, remaining so until Jimmy Brain broke it in 1925-26. However, Arsenal's defence let them down and they only finished fifth, outside of the promotion places; eventually, they were re-elected back to the First Division when football resumed after the end of World War I.
Long hair is a hairstyle. Exactly what constitutes long hair can change from culture to culture, or even within cultures. For example, a woman with chin-length hair in some cultures may be said to have short hair, while a man with the same length of hair in some of the same cultures would be said to have long hair.
Scientists view long hair as playing a large part in natural selection among many species, since long, thick and healthy hair or fur is frequently a sign of fertility and youth. As hair grows slowly, long hair reveals several years of a person's health status and reproductive fitness. Hair length is significantly correlated with female attractiveness, as rated by men as well as women. Hair length and quality can act as a cue to especially a woman's youth and health, signifying reproductive potential. The prevalence of trichophilia (hair partialism or fetischism) is 7% in the population, and very long hair is a common subject of devotion in this group.
Ways of life often viewed as more rigid, such as soldiers and religious cultures, often have explicit rules regarding hair length. For example, Buddhist monks shave their heads as part of their order of worship. Even outside religious structures, cultures often associate male long hair with ways of life outside of what is culturally accepted. Subservient cultures, for example, are sometimes detected by their rulers through hair length, as was the case with the Gaelic Irish under English rule and the Moors under Spanish rule in Medieval Spain.

This is life... not heaven... you don't have to be perfect.
Too beautiful to die. Too wild to live.
Based on the tragic life and times of America's first supermodel.
Everyone saw the beauty, no one saw the pain.
Why me?
Maurice: She hated to be photographed. You had to run after her and tie her down. And you had to get past all the junk in her hair. But she was special.
Gia Carangi: Look, this was a free trip to New York. If I had known you were looking for Marcia fucking Brady, I woulda stayed home.
Gia Carangi: Well somebody has to take care of me! I'm just a kid!::T.J.: Bullshit.
T.J.: Have you ever had sex with a man before?::Gia Carangi: Yeah, once.::T.J.: And?::Gia Carangi: And... I could have done that with a German Shepard.
Gia Carangi: Life and death, energy and peace. If I stop today it was still worth it. Even the terrible mistakes that I made and would have unmade if I could. The pains that have burned me and scarred my soul, it was worth it, for having been allowed to walk where I've walked, which was to hell on earth, heaven on earth, back again, into, under, far in between, through it, in it, and above.
Francesco: This is life, not heaven. You don't have to be perfect...
Gia Carangi: I'm in charge, and I'm leavin'!
Gia Carangi: Are you nervous?::T.J.: Yeah.::Gia Carangi: Am I making you nervous?::T.J.: Yeah.::Gia Carangi: Well, good, that's the idea. You scare the shit out of people so they can't see how scared you are.
Gia Carangi: You look so pretty.::Stephanie: Thank you.::Gia Carangi: I love you.::Stephanie: I know, you love everyone.
Gia Carangi: I do be da pittiest, pittiest girl. I do be dat.
