A Lambeth degree is an academic degree conferred by the Archbishop of Canterbury under the authority of the Ecclesiastical Licences Act 1533 (25 Hen VIII c 21) (Eng) as successor of the papal legate in England. The degrees conferred most commonly are DD (Doctor of Divinity), DCL (Doctor of Civil Law), DLitt (Doctor of Letters), DMus (Doctor of Music), DM (Doctor of Medicine), BD (Bachelor of Divinity) and MA (Master of Arts). The relatively modern degree of MLitt (Master of Letters) has been conferred in recent years, and the MPhil and PhD are now available. The degrees awarded (and their letters) are dependent on which of the two ancient universities, Oxford or Cambridge, the archbishop chooses as his model. This is also tied with the nature of the academic dress used as well.
The continued authority of the archbishop to confer degrees is recognised in accordance with section 216(1) of the Education Reform Act 1988 by the Education (Recognised Bodies) (England) Order 2010. There are two types of degrees awarded, those for the recognition of service to the church and those for which an examination is required.

Lambeth (/ˈlæmbɪθ/) is a district in Central London, England, located in the London Borough of Lambeth. It is situated 1 mile (1.6 km) south of Charing Cross. The population of Lambeth was 23,937 in 2011.
The name is recorded in 1062 as Lambehitha, meaning 'landing place for lambs', and in 1255 as Lambeth. In the Domesday Book, Lambeth is called "Lanchei", likely in error. The name refers to a harbour where lambs were either shipped from or to. It is formed from the Old English 'lamb' and 'hythe'.South Lambeth is recorded as Sutlamehethe in 1241 and North Lambeth is recorded in 1319 as North Lamhuth. The marshland in the area, known as Lambeth Marshe, was drained in the 18th century but is remembered in the Lower Marsh street name. Sometime after the opening of Waterloo railway station in 1848 the locality around the station and Lower Marsh became known as Waterloo.

When he was younger, Robert Lindsay starred as Bill Snibson in the UK production of 'Me and My Girl' with Emma Thompson. It was so successful that it opened on Broadway, again starring Robert Lindsay, this time with Mary Ann Plunkett. It won three Tony Awards, including Best Actor. This video is Robert Lindsay singing the Act One finale with the rest of the cast. Enjoy!
This film short is called "Lambeth Walk - Nazi Style" and was made by Charles A. Ridley in 1941. He re-edited existing footage of Hitler and Nazi soldiers (taken from the propaganda film "Triumph of the Will") to make it appear they were marching and dancing to "The Lambeth Walk". He used the music because members of the Nazi party had called the tune "Jewish mischief and animalistic hopping". The re-edit was distributed uncredited to newsreel companies in the US and UK. Made 60+ years before YouTube, it is regarded as one of the first political remix videos. Riot Police shut down an illegal 'Scum Tek Rave' at a venue in Vauxhall on Halloween night and were fighting off from 11pm to 4am over a thousand revellers who were throwing missiles at them and setting bins alight in the streets of Lambeth.
