Adelaide ( /ˈædəleɪd/) is the capital city of South Australia and the fifth-largest city in Australia. Adelaide has an estimated population of more than 1.2 million. The demonym "Adelaidean" is used in reference to the city and its residents. Adelaide is located north of the Fleurieu Peninsula, on the Adelaide Plains between the Gulf St Vincent and the low-lying Mount Lofty Ranges which surround the city. Adelaide stretches 20 km (12 mi) from the coast to the foothills, and 90 km (56 mi) from Gawler at its northern extent to Sellicks Beach in the south.
Named in honour of Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen, queen consort to King William IV, the city was founded in 1836 as the planned capital for a freely settled British province in Australia.Colonel William Light, one of Adelaide's founding fathers, designed the city and chose its location close to the River Torrens in the area originally inhabited by the Kaurna people. Light's design set out Adelaide in a grid layout, interspaced by wide boulevards and large public squares, and entirely surrounded by parkland. Early Adelaide was shaped by religious freedom and a commitment to political progressivism and civil liberties, which led to the moniker "City of Churches".
Heaven, I need a drug
Her eyes are all but fixed upon her coffee cup
Looking down, she tells you things are looking up
Take another slug
Heaven, I had a dream
Now my life's a nightmare of efficiency
She rattles off the things, she never got for free
Gearing up to scream
I remember when
I had you, you had so much promise then
Promised me that you would never leave again
To be broken you were made Adelaide
Heaven, I need a rest
I recognized the voices talking in my head
I couldn't make out everything the voices said
Loving you is a test
I remember when
I had you, you had so much promise then
Promised me that you would never leave again
To be broken you were made Adelaide
Heaven, I need a drink
I'm here because they're paying me to do my thing
They never specify what it is I should bring
I'm right up on the brink
I remember when
I had you and you had so much promise then
Promised me that you would never leave again
To be broken you were made Adelaide
I remember when
I had you and you had so much promise then
Promised me that you would never leave again
To be broken you were made Adelaide
To be broken you were made Adelaide
In a bar last Saturday
I got a beer in my hand and a cheeseburger on its way
There’s some sport on the T.V. screen
It was the best damn game of football I’d ever seen
Then she came into my life
I knew right then she would be my wife
Cause I fell in love
She wore a shirt, it was oh so tight
She had little tight orange shorts that shone so bright
When she smiled, when she smiled at me
My old heart, it missed a dozen beats
Cause I fell in love with a Hooters girl and it’s driving me wild
I loose my cool every single time she’s in my mind
She’s taken control of everything in my world
I fell in love with a Hooters girl
I’ve been back most every day
And I sit and I watch her work and I try to say
Say what’s on my mind, to say how I feel
But when she comes across I just order another meal
When she smiles, smiles at other guys
It makes me so mad I just wanna cry, cry out loud
I’m in love with a Hooters girl and it’s driving me wild
I loose my cool every single time she’s in my mind
She’s taken control of everything in my world
I fell in love with a Hooters girl
I don’t know what I’m gonna do
I’ve gotta show her my love is true
I have to show her that I’m better than all the rest
But how can she take me seriously when I’m staring at her chest
I’m in love with a Hooters girl and it’s driving me wild
I loose my cool every single time she’s in my mind
She’s taken control of everything in my world
Dangerous roads unravel inside of me.
I feel so hollow,
The darkest pills I've swallowed.
God won't you take me.
I've got to get myself away,
in the shadows I'll always be
hidden from the eyes that stare,
come and take a chance if you dare.
Broken years and shattering eyes,
scars that keep me alive.
A lesson lost is a lesson learned,
and in the end, we all burn.
The strength of one's spine is all in the eyes...
I tear my brain out endlessly,
searching for something that will never be.
No rest, never to expect something of this world,
'cause this world owes me nothing.
Submission.
What you deserve is what you will get in the end
No handouts.
So you say you're mad at me
Still it's over when it's over.
Simple love and mixed in lies.
Could it be over, is this over
Because it's hard to find who you are
Open up your heart and find a new side
Stepping on the remnants of the memories of your forgotten love.
I'm just waiting for a sign to tell me all about the wagers of this love supreme endangered all my life
And I've forgotten how this feels.
Still I try, all alone again I wait in the silence that you speak.
Because I can't get inside my head.
Now I'm stupid, now I'm dead.
I can't get in, so what
The pressures off the true weights
Adelaide
by Friedrich von Matthisson (1761-1831)
Einsam wandelt dein Freund im Frühlingsgarten,
Mild vom lieblichen Zauberlicht umflossen,
Das durch wankende Blütenzweige zittert,
Adelaide!
In der spiegelnden Flut, im Schnee der Alpen,
In des sinkenden Tages Goldgewölken,
Im Gefilde der Sterne strahlt dein Bildnis,
Adelaide!
Abendlüfte im zarten Laube flüstern,
Silberglöckchen des Mais im Grase säuseln,
Wellen rauschen und Nachtigallen flöten:
Adelaide!
Einst, o Wunder! entblüht auf meinem Grabe
Eine Blume der Asche meines Herzens;
Deutlich schimmert auf jedem Purpurblättchen:
Adelaide!
I close my eyes
And drift away
To a far, far better place
I fall asleep
And leave you here
In the twisted sheets of love
Oh it's been a scene
Since you and I
Have stopped talking
So all I do is dream
Of a city in the South
A place I'll go to
Adelaide
I'll take you with me
When I go down to
Christmas in the summertime
Adelaide
Adelaide
I'll take you with me
When I go
Day after day
You say a dollar saved
Is a dollar earned
And I
Count the clocks
In our house
and add up all our silence
Oh you've got a lock
And I can't find
The key to your heart
Let's take a plane
And leave this on the ground
And fly down to
(chorus)
How long has it been, baby?
How long has it been?
I close my eyes
And drift away
(chorus, repeated and fade)
She open's up
She holds
Her list of reasons
Through butterfly glasses,
Say's the world
Has written her off
It won't take long
She's been beaten
Downed before
It won't take long
Until, it take's control of her
Adelaide
Did you miss your scene?
Slipped away
Underneath it all
I know, retro girl your a mavin
So amazing
Adelaide
It take's it's toll
Too late to, too late to save her
She can't get free from her rejection
It takes hold
It won't take long
She make's believe
But I know,
It's an open letter
Adelaide
Did you miss your scene?
Slipped away
Underneath it all
I know, retro girl your a mavin
So amazing
Adelaide
Oooh, oooh, oooh,
Underneath the smile
She hides the bruises
What is essential
Is what she believes
Adelaide
Did you miss your scene?
Slipped away
Underneath it all
I know, retro girl your a mavin
So amazing
Adelaide
Don't let her go
I know,
Adelaide
On a plane
Far from the united states
Of LA
Dropping in from outer space
Takes a day
Now I see the Bogans
At the motor race
Here you know the world could turn
Or crash and burn
And you would never know it
Going where the air is clear
There's better beer in Adelaide
Charlie L. Smith's forty
Someone spiked my rice
The rest, history
Now I am a fixture down
Rundle Mall
Watching as the locals pass
Silver balls
I can see their eyes are round
They're pointed down
They scan the spanning sidewalks
Learning that there is no hurry
Fuss or worry
Adelaide
Ah ah ah ah
Ah ah ah ah
Ah ah ah ah
Ah ah ah ah
It's raining
In Adelaide
A face is waiting in a window
A voice says
Why Adelaide
You could live anywhere and I say
Because I want to
Because I want to
I really really want to
And you know the earth could turn
Or crash and burn
And you would never know it
Really got to make it to the finish line
Get the record done on time
Pack the bags
And catch a flight
And you can kiss my ass goodbye
I'm in Adelaide
Adelaide
Adelaide
I want to go home, I want to go home
I want to go back to Adelaide
It' s time for a change, don't want to be late
It's probably night in Adelaide
In a day or two, I'll be there asking for you
To come back to Adelaide with me
The weather there is so good.
So pass me the phone, I'll go it alone
I'll whistle my way to Adelaide
There's no time to cry, I'll be there tonight
The trains and the boats and planes are on time.
But before I go, I'm knock-knocking on your front door
Be sure to say good-bye to your friends
And to all my friends back home.
But before I go, I'm knock-knocking on your front door
Be sure to say good-bye to your friends
And to all my friends back home.
Oh, Adelaide, Adelaide, I want you tonight
Adelaide, Adelaide, I want you tonight
Yesterday it seemed
Life was just a dream
A bad dream
You watch them all day long
Feel you don't belong but you're wrong
Life is good today
Had a pretty boy look your way
Don't worry Adelaide
Life is good today
Had a pretty boy look your way
Don't worry Adelaide
Adelaide
See the other girl
Strand a perfect pearl
And one day the sun will shine upon your face and you will find
Someone beautiful
Life is good today
Had a pretty boy look your way
Don't worry Adelaide
Life is good today
Had a pretty boy look your way
Don't worry Adelaide
Adelaide
And one day the sun will shine upon your face and you will find
You're beautiful
Life is good today

How long has it been, baby?
How long has it been?
I close my eyes
And drift away
You're repeating me lines
That you think I want to hear
But I don't want to hear anymore
As if sorry is any consolation
For what it's worth, you're stringing me alone
Should, should, shouldn't need anyone
Shouldn't need anyone
Just scared of being alone
But by the time you've figured this out
And I'm already gone
Adelaide, Adelaide
You really had me going this time
Adelaide, Adelaide
You need to quit, quit making a scene
Adelaide, Adelaide
You really had me going this time
Adelaide, Adelaide
You need to quit, quit making a scene
You keep giving me signs
That you think I want to see
But you're nothing like you've seen
Hide behind your half smile
But the truth is so undeniable
Should, should, shouldn't need anyone
Shouldn't need anyone
Just scared of being alone
But by the time you've figured this out
And I'm already gone
Adelaide, Adelaide
You really had me going this time
Adelaide, Adelaide
You need to quit, quit making a scene
Adelaide, Adelaide
You really had me going this time
Adelaide, Adelaide
You need to quit, quit making a scene
Like lipstick traces on pillow cases
Some things in life are unforgettable
Like love, loss, lies and lust, whoa
Some things in life are undeniable
Like lipstick traces on pillow cases
Some things in life are unforgettable
Like love, loss, lies and lust, whoa
Some things in life are undeniable
Adelaide, Adelaide
You really had me going this time
