William Louis Petersen (born February 21, 1953) is an American actor and producer best known for playing Dr. Gilbert "Gil" Grissom in the CBS series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. He also starred in films, such as To Live and Die in L.A. and Manhunter.
Petersen was born in Evanston, Illinois, the youngest of six children of Helen June (née Hoene; 1909–2006) and Arthur Edward Petersen, Sr. (1907–2004), who worked in the furniture business. He is of Danish and German descent. He has two brothers, Arthur, Jr. and Robert, plus three sisters, Anne, Mary Kay, and Elizabeth. He graduated from Bishop Kelly High School in Boise, Idaho, in 1972. He was accepted to Idaho State University on a football scholarship. While at Idaho State, Petersen took an acting course, which changed the direction of his life. He left school along with his wife, Joanne, in 1974 and followed a drama professor to the Basque country, where he studied as a Shakespearean actor. Petersen was interested in Basque culture and he studied the Basque language, Euskera, and gave his daughter the Basque name Maite Nerea (meaning My Beloved); she was born in Arrasate/Mondragón 1975. Petersen returned to Idaho with the intention of being an actor. Not wanting to work a nonacting job in Idaho, he returned to the Chicago area, living with relatives. He became active in the theater and earned his Actors' Equity card. He performed with the Steppenwolf Theatre Company, of which he has been an ensemble member since 2008, and was a co-founder of the Remains Theater Ensemble, which also included other prominent Chicago actors Gary Cole and Ted Levine.
Petersen is a common Scandinavian patronymic surname, meaning "son of Peter". There are other spellings. Petersen may refer to:

This is a small clip from a relatively unheard of film from around 1995 called "In the Kingdom of the Blind the Man with One Eye is King." It's a cop/mob movie and unfortunately, it didn't make it very big at the box office. It was relatively low budget. It didn't have buckets of blood or 20-minute-long gun battles or epic car chases or much of anything that makes movies really huge. But in my opinion, it is one of the best dramatic movies ever. And this clip is one of the best cinematic performances you will ever see. This is William Petersen (CSI) playing the part of Tony C. He is a mid level crime boss in NYC, and he has found out that the brother of his direct superior has been murdered in his home. This scene is Tony C telling an old cop friend from his youth that he suspects the cop...

A nice little feel good video featuring William Petersen and the roles he has played. It is a little...cheeky :) Minor adult warning for pure hotness and a naked bottom! I do not own Billy, sadly, or any of these clips or music, so the people who do please be nice. Video dedicated to Kerstin, because you always cheer me up :) Clips available at www.billyjorjamedia.com

Long Gone - 1987Very entertaining HBO movie starring William Petersen, Virginia Madsen, and Dermot Mulroney. This has never been released on DVD so I'm posting it here (if the movie comes out on DVD, I will remove it). I had to mute about two minutes of the video due to a copyrighted song -- YouTube would not let it go through unless I did so. This section starts at 56:10 and goes until 58:20. It's just a scene of Jamie and Esther in a car -- not critical for the storyline.
