Comares es un municipio español de la provincia de Málaga, Andalucia, con el título de Marquesado. Comares es uno de los 31 pueblos que conforman la comarca de la Axarquía. Pero Comares no fue fundada por los árabes , sino por los griegos que arribaron a las costas de Málaga en El siglo VII a. C. Debió ser ya una fortaleza musulmana desde el siglo VIII.
El día 29 de Abril de 1487 Comares se rendía a las tropas cristianas, siendo nombrado alcalde Pedro de Cuéllar, que sucedió al último alcaide moro, llamado Mohammed el Jabis. Las crónicas relatan que en el Castillo de Comares cabían unas 15.000 almas
De origen árabe, su situación demuestra el carácter de puesto vigía que debió tener y su fisonomía conserva los rasgos de los pueblos que se forman en torno a una fortaleza, con calles sinuosas y estrechas de casas blancas, ventanas enrejadas con macetas de geranios. Sorprende ver cómo la piedra se incrusta en las casas blancas constituyendo así un elemento más de decoración. Visita en Octubre 2015.

El patronazgo del obispo y confesor galo San Hilario de Poitiers (315-368) por los comareños; según cuenta la leyenda, se debe a la sublevación de un grupo de mozárabes ("es el nombre con el que se conocía a la población cristiana, de origen hispano-visigodo, que vivían en el territorio musulmán de al-Ándalus") en enero de 1442 por la explotación a que estaban sometidos bajo las leyes musulmanas. Dado que los hechos coincidieron con la festividad de San Hilario, y el enfrentamiento se llevó a cabo por su encomendación al santo del día, y tuvieron pocas bajas en el enfrentamiento. Se le concedió el título de patrono de Comares, en memoria de aquellos cristianos comareños que en su nombre salieron a la lucha por la defensa de sus derechos.

Comares
Comares is a town and municipality in the province of Málaga, part of the autonomous community of Andalusia in southern Spain. The municipality is situated approximately 28 kilometers from the provincial capital and 24 from Vélez-Málaga. It is located in the foothills of the Montes de Málaga 703 meters above sea level. Comares is one of the 31 villages that make up the comarca of Axarquía.
It is bordered to the north with Riogordo, to the north, northeast and east with Cútar, to the south with El Borge, to the southwest and west with Málaga and to the northwest with Colmenar.
It has a population of approximately 1,420 residents. The natives are called Moriscosos.
Geography
The population core is located in slight decline, on the crest of a steep mountain at 703 m. The region is full of ravines, hamlets and farms scattered around the mountain. Its highest point is the hill of Mazmúllar (721 m). A dip the end of the rivers Cuevas or Benamargosa feeds the streams of Cútar, Fuente Delgada and Solano, which are dry most of the year. The town's water supply comes from the springs called Délga, Gorda, Caño Seco and Maroto.

El patronazgo del obispo y confesor galo San Hilario de Poitiers (315-368) por los comareños; según cuenta la leyenda, se debe a la sublevación de un grupo de mozárabes ("es el nombre con el que se conocía a la población cristiana, de origen hispano-visigodo, que vivían en el territorio musulmán de al-Ándalus") en enero de 1442 por la explotación a que estaban sometidos bajo las leyes musulmanas. Dado que los hechos coincidieron con la festividad de San Hilario, y el enfrentamiento se llevó a cabo por su encomendación al santo del día, y tuvieron pocas bajas en el enfrentamiento. Se le concedió el título de patrono de Comares, en memoria de aquellos cristianos comareños que en su nombre salieron a la lucha por la defensa de sus derechos.
