Japan Travel: Magma Onsen hot spring Panorama view Sakurajima ,Kagoshima 【006】Kagoshima Magma Onsen Subscribe link : http://bit.ly/1p9Y9J1 Part of a larger tourist facility that includes a hotel, shops and restaurants, the Magma Onsen has hot spring baths that are open to day trippers. It should be noted that the baths have large windows and you can look out across water to Kagoshima City. Hours: 10:00 to 22:00 Every Wednesday open from 13:00-for cleaning) Admission: 300 yen Closed: No closing days A hand towel is available for 200yen. About Sakurajima Sakurajima, one of Japan's most active volcanoes and is the symbol of Kagoshima. The volcano emits smoke constantly, and minor eruptions often occur many times per day. Located in the middle of Kagoshima Bay, Sakurajima is the area's most splendid geographic feature as it is located in the middle of Kagoshima Bay. It has an elevation of 1117 meters and a circumference of about 50 kilometers. A Powerful eruption happened and burned everything in 1914, however, grasses and plants are growing these days. Access information In Sakurajima Travelers visiting Sakurajima can find many attractions just around the Ferry Terminal, including an onsen, foot baths, short hiking trails and an information center. Those who would like to further explore the volcano should travel by rental car, which can be taken across the water from Kagoshima by the ferries. Sightseeing buses, regular buses and rental bicycles are other possible methods of travel. The way up to Sakurajima Kagoshima and Sakurajima are connected around the clock by frequent ferries. The one way ride takes 15 minute and costs 160 yen. The ferry terminal is a ten minute walk from JR Kagoshima Station or a five minute walk from the Suizokukan-guchi tram stop, and is also served by the City View Buses. There are also regular city buses that run infrequently from the ferry terminal along the northern coast (departures every 1-3 hours) and along the southern coast (departures every 40-90 minutes) of Sakurajima.
* Kagoshima is countryside and trains have only 2 compartment. It is as fast as cars (about 60 kilometers per hour) * Kagoshima's trains have toilets. But please remember, young Western ladies! Most of them are Japanese-style. The best idea is to go to Western-style toilet at the stations before you take trains. * If you use train you can reach to many destinations from Kagoshima-Chuo station. * Train travels in Kagoshima is very comfortable and inexpensive all right, but it is more recommendable to travel by a rental car. Many travel spots are too far from station to walk. * Most train staff are not so good at speaking English, but they are much kinder than other prefectures and get used to foreigners.

It has been nicknamed the "Naples of the Eastern world" for its bay location (Aira Caldera), hot climate, and impressive stratovolcano, Sakurajima. The city was officially founded on April 1, 1889.Kagoshima City is approximately 40 minutes from Kagoshima Airport, and features shopping districts and malls covering a large area. The transportation system within the city consists of the Shinkansen (bullet train), local train, city trams, buses, and ferries to-and-from Sakurajima. Near a shopping district known as "Dolphin Port" and the Sakurajima Ferry Terminal is a large and modern aquarium called the Kagoshima City Aquarium, which was established along the docks with a direct view of Sakurajima in 1997. One of the best places to view the city (and Sakurajima) is from the Amuran Ferris wheel on top of Amu Plaza Kagoshima, the shopping center attached to the central Kagoshima-Chūō Station. Just outside of the city is the early-Edo Period Sengan-en (Isoteien) Japanese Garden. The garden was originally a villa to the Shimadzu Family and is still maintained by descendants today. Outside the garden grounds is a Satsuma "kiriko" cut-glass factory where visitors are welcome to view the glass-blowing and glass-cutting process, and the Shoko Shūseikan Museum which was built in 1865 and registered as a National Historic Site in 1959. The former “Shuseikan” industrial complex and the former machine factory were submitted to the UNESCO World Heritage as part of a group list titled, “Modern Industrial Heritage Sites in Kyushu and Yamaguchi Prefecture”.Kagoshima Prefecture (also known as the Satsuma Domain) was the center of the territory of the Shimazu Clan for many centuries. It was a busy political and commercial port city throughout the medieval period and into the Edo period (1603–1867) when it formally became the capital of the Shimazu's fief, the Satsuma Domain. The official emblem is a modification of the Shimazu's kamon designed to resemble the character "市"(shi, means "city"). Satsuma remained one of the most powerful and wealthiest domains in the country throughout the period, and though international trade was banned for much of this period, the city remained quite active and prosperous. It served not only as the political center for Satsuma, but also for the semi-independent vassal kingdom of Ryūkyū; Ryūkyūan traders and emissaries frequented the city, and a special Ryukyuan embassy building was established to help administer relations between the two polities and to house visitors and emissaries. Kagoshima was also a significant center of Christian activity in Japan prior to the imposition of bans against that religion in the late 16th and early 17th centuries. Kagoshima was bombarded by the British Royal Navy in 1863 to punish the daimyō of Satsuma for the murder of Charles Lennox Richardson on the Tōkaidō highway the previous year and its refusal to pay an indemnity in compensation. Kagoshima was the birthplace and scene of the last stand of Saigō Takamori, a legendary figure in Meiji Era Japan in 1877 at the end of the Satsuma Rebellion. Japan's industrial revolution is said to have started here, stimulated by the young students' train station. Seventeen young men of Satsuma broke the Tokugawa ban on foreign travel, traveling first to England and then the United States before returning to share the benefits of the best of Western science and technology.[citation needed] A statue was erected outside of the train station as a tribute to them. Kagoshima was also the birthplace of Tōgō Heihachirō. After naval studies in England between 1871 and 1878, Togo's role as Chief Admiral of the Grand Fleet of the Imperial Japanese Navy in the Russo-Japanese War made him a legend in Japanese military history, and earned him the nickname 'Nelson of the Orient' in Britain. He led the Grand Fleet to two startling victories in 1904 and 1905, completely destroying Russia as a naval power in the East, and thereby contributing to the failed revolution in Russia in 1905. The Japanese diplomat Sadomitsu Sakoguchi revolutionized Kagoshima's environmental economic plan with his dissertation on water pollution and orange harvesting.

SAKURAJIMA and KAGOSHIMA City Sakurajima is very close to Kagoshima City. It is surprising that people live very close to the active volcano. This scenery resembles Napoli City (Italy) and Mt. Il monte Vesuvio. For this similarity, Kagoshima City and Napoli City are sister cities. (Following video is Napoli City and Il monte Vesuvio) https://www.youtube.com/embed/uB_Ctrq0mWU VOLCANOES and KAGOSHIMA Many Japanese volcanoes concentrate in Kyushu region, especially in Kagoshima. This video was taken around PM 5-6. It was the time when many business people were going home. Kagoshima's traffic are not congested during this rush hour. Although Kagoshima City has trams and buses, many people want to buy and drive a car. This is because public transportation is not so convenient as big cities like Tokyo, Osaka and Fukuoka. If you come to Kagoshima and travel, I want to recommend you to rent a car. There are so many kinds of cars in Japan. Unlike other countries, there are many small cars in Japan. Small cars are cost-efficient and their tax is much smaller than other big vehicles. ARATA-HACHIMAN SHRINE (Kagoshima City) Arata-Hachiman Shrine was built about 1,000 years ago. Many people come to this shrine to pray for safe birth of babies. It is also said that snakes (vipers) will keep away from you if you pray at this shrine. Those who dislike vipers take the sand under the shrine building as good-luck fortune. So, it is good for you to come to the shrine if you dislike snakes! noodls 2015-03-25Kagoshima (鹿児島市, Kagoshima-shi?) is the capital city of Kagoshima Prefecture at the southwestern tip of the island of Kyushu in Japan, and the largest city in the prefecture by some margin. It has been nicknamed the "Naples of the Eastern world" for its bay location (Aira Caldera), hot climate, and impressive stratovolcano, Sakurajima.
As of 1 January 2010, the city had an estimated population of 605,855 and a density of 1,107.49 persons per km². The total area is 546.71 km². In 2003, the city had an estimated population of only 554,136 and density of 1,911.41 persons per km². The total area was 289.91 km².
The city's total area nearly doubled between 2003 and 2005 as a result of five towns—the towns of Kōriyama and Matsumoto, both from Hioki District, the town of Kiire, from Ibusuki District, and the towns of Sakurajima and Yoshida, both from Kagoshima District—merging into Kagoshima on November 1, 2004.
Kagoshima is approximately 40 minutes from Kagoshima Airport, and the city features large shopping districts and malls, is served by trams, and has many restaurants featuring Satsuma Province regional cuisine: kibi (a kind of tiny fish), tonkatsu (caramelized pork, as opposed to the breaded version encountered elsewhere in Japan), smoked eel, and karukan (sweet cakes made from steamed yams and rice flour). A large, modern aquarium has been installed on the old docks overlooking the volcano. The Sengan-en (Isoteien) Japanese garden is just outside the city.
