A spectrum (plural spectra or spectrums) is a condition that is not limited to a specific set of values but can vary infinitely within a continuum. The word saw its first scientific use within the field of optics to describe the rainbow of colors in visible light when separated using a prism; it has since been applied by analogy to many fields other than optics. Thus, one might talk about the spectrum of political opinion, or the spectrum of activity of a drug, or the autism spectrum. In these uses, values within a spectrum may not be associated with precisely quantifiable numbers or definitions. Such uses imply a broad range of conditions or behaviors grouped together and studied under a single title for ease of discussion.
In most modern usages of spectrum there is a unifying theme between extremes at either end. Some older usages of the word did not have a unifying theme, but they led to modern ones through a sequence of events set out below. Modern usages in mathematics did evolve from a unifying theme, but this may be difficult to recognize.
Adam Richard Wiles (born 17 January 1984), better known by his stage name Calvin Harris, is a Scottish DJ, singer, songwriter, and record producer. His gold-selling debut album, I Created Disco, was released in 2007 and contained the top ten singles "Acceptable in the 80s" and "The Girls". His second studio album, Ready for the Weekend (2009), reached number one in the UK Album Chart and includes the chart-topper "I'm Not Alone", the UK top five hit "Ready for the Weekend", and the singles "Flashback" and "You Used to Hold Me".
A remix album titled L.E.D. Festival was released in July 2010 as a free album in the August issue of Mixmag. Harris is currently working on his third studio album—due for release in 2012—which has produced the singles "Awooga", "Bounce", "Feel So Close", and "Let's Go". He has written and produced records for other recording artists including Kylie Minogue, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Dizzee Rascal, Rihanna (on the international chart topper "We Found Love"), and Kesha.
William C. Cobham (born May 16, 1944 in Panama) is a Panamanian American jazz drummer, composer and bandleader, who permanently relocated to Switzerland during the late 1970s.
Coming to prominence in the late 1960s and early 1970s with trumpeter Miles Davis and then with Mahavishnu Orchestra, Allmusic's reviewer claims Cobham is "generally acclaimed as fusion's greatest drummer with an influential style that combines explosive power and exacting precision.
Born in Panama, Cobham's family moved to New York City during his early childhood. A drummer from his youth, Cobham attended New York's High School of Music and Art, graduating in 1962.
He played in a U.S. Army Band from 1965 to 1968. Following his discharge, Cobham joined an ensemble led by pianist Horace Silver for about a year, also playing or recording with saxophonist Stanley Turrentine, organist Shirley Scott, and guitarist George Benson.
Cobham branched out to jazz fusion, which blended elements of jazz, rock and roll and funk, playing and recording with the Brecker Brothers (notably in their 1970-founded group Dreams), and guitarist John Abercrombie, before recording and touring extensively with trumpeter Miles Davis. Cobham's work with Davis appears on A Tribute to Jack Johnson, among other recordings. Cobham is also one of the first drummers to play open-handed lead: a drummer that plays on a right-handed set but leads with his left hand on the hi-hat instead of crossing over with his right (and also has his ride cymbal on the left side, instead of the traditional right). He typically plays with multiple toms and double bass drums and was well known in the '70s for his large drum kits.

Lou Strickland: Dibble's a clown.::Top Cat: Certainly, he can be foolish.::Lou Strickland: No! I mean I, literally, turned him into a clown!
Maharajah of Pikachu: Please, Shiek Alleycat! I insist you take this Maharajah Talk 5000. You'll find it more valuable.::Top Cat: Why? Can it turn into rubies, too?
Top Cat: They call me T.C. It's short for "Top Cat".::Trixie: Oh, that's very clever. I'm Trixie, which is short for...::Top Cat: [interrupts] The future Mrs. Top Cat?::Trixie: [chuckles] You're funny, too. Too bad I have to go to work and too bad I don't take anyone from the alley.::Top Cat: Oh, I wasn't joking. I think you have stolen my heart. I'm usually the one who does the taking around here.::Trixie: [gasp] Is that why he's so upset?::Top Cat: [pulls out a bag of bird seed, throws it on Griswald, calls out for birds]::Top Cat: Now, where were we? [gasp; finds out Trixie vanishes]

Here I am
Once again
At the other end
Of the Spectrum
A tug-o-war
My head is sore
Because I adore
And I fear you
Well I can disagree with myself
Because sometimes I feel like me and sometimes I feel like someone else
One minute
I'm over it
Then the next Minute
I feel the opposite
Then the next minute
I feel the opposite
Of the opposite
Of feeling over it
Well I can disagree with myself; well I can disagree with myself
Because sometimes I feel like me and sometimes I feel like someone else
Here I am
Once again
At the other end
It all began in the name of love
So how did it turn to hate
I won't pretend that I'm happy now
When there's tear stains on my face.
They won't wash away, it's like the blood is on my hands
A thousand promises, now they've gone to waste
And why did you hold me back when I needed space?
Makes me wanna cry
Because of you there's a part of me that died
And it's sad cause you never took the time to see
The greatest part of me
[Chorus:]
I hope you know the thing you did
You really tried to break me down
And I might stumble but I'm ok finding the strength to stand
You really thought I wasn't gonna fight
You really wanted to put out my light
But I'm unbroken, my colors show through
And you will never understand
Echoes in my head of words you used to say
It's only me (it's only you) then you'd act another way
But your greatest mistake is, you confused my love 4 weakness
[Chorus:]
I hope you know the thing you did
You really tried to break me down
And I might stumble but I'm ok finding the strength to stand
You really thought I wasn't gonna fight
You really wanted to put out my light
But I'm unbroken, my colors show through
And you will never understand
I will never be your victim
I will never be your victim
Cause I made it through the glass
And came out on the other side of the spectrum,
Of the spectrum
Cause I made it through the glass
And came out on the other side of the spectrum,
Of the spectrum
And I'm okay without you
[Chorus:]
I hope you know the thing you did
You really tried to break me down
And I might stumble but I'm ok finding the strength to stand
You really thought I wasn't gonna fight
You really wanted to put out my light
But I'm unbroken, my colors show through

Baby I'm your sister, I'm your mother
I am an angel, I know the truth
did you hear it? When they did scream
Baby I'm your brother, I'm your father
I am an angel, I know the truth
did you hear it? When they did scream
Moon and the stars dry night
did you hide the sun
so sorry sad sister
I just wanna sleep the rest of my life
I am spectrum centuries of
and I forgot how to talk
Momentum seems to carry them
But only for a moment
A face that hides a thousand secrets
Never seems to smile
A feeling of uncertainty
No hand to rock the cradle
But we can hear a whispering inside
Spectrum shifting
Colours form
The picture is changing
Crystal calling
Diamonds fall
A time for creating
Spectrum shifting
Colours form
The future is waiting
Illusion holds a mystery
But nothing lasts forever
A searching for a hidden magic
Waiting to be found
A haunting sense of emptiness
They hear the sound of silence
But we can hear a whispering inside
Through these eyes we shook the world
Through these eyes we fought the world
Through these eyes we shock the world
No fear at all went head strong
Aggravations, hostility
But there´s a difference, we are free
In my eyes a line divided
So choose a side and stand united
Divide and fall, reflections of what we have done
There´s no shame, but there´s is pride
Fought for everything, we did what we have to do
There is a purpose for this fight, in the end I know it´s right
We are free, we are free!
In my eyes, see strong conviction
Laid to rest, all doubts are dead
Fought for everything, we did what we have to do

It's the typical ones who want out
'Cause its getting critical
And the curious running away
They are the furious ones
It's the perfect disguise
Known as fear
It's a shame, it's a phenomenon
Slapping our faces, and laughing away at us all
What does this mean
To have my way with you
Distance me, yeah
Discovering the truth
What does this mean
To have my way with you
Distance me, yeah
Discovering the truth
Arranged for something new
'Cause it makes me feel good now
I get excited by the signs
As the provider of random sex
You're getting skeptical
Since you joined my parade I can laugh
I've had you my way
It was perfect inside, now I feel
It's a shame, you're a phenomenon
Shallow embraces
A innocent plan for us all
What does this mean
To have my way with you
Distance me, yeah
Discovering the truth
What does this mean
To have my way with you
Distance me, yeah
Discovering the truth
Arranged for something new
'Cause it makes me feel good now
