Statistics is the study of the collection, organization, analysis, and interpretation of data. It deals with all aspects of this, including the planning of data collection in terms of the design of surveys and experiments.
A statistician is someone who is particularly well versed in the ways of thinking necessary for the successful application of statistical analysis. Such people have often gained this experience through working in any of a wide number of fields. There is also a discipline called mathematical statistics that studies statistics mathematically.
The word statistics, when referring to the scientific discipline, is singular, as in "Statistics is an art." This should not be confused with the word statistic, referring to a quantity (such as mean or median) calculated from a set of data, whose plural is statistics ("this statistic seems wrong" or "these statistics are misleading").
Some consider statistics to be a mathematical body of science pertaining to the collection, analysis, interpretation or explanation, and presentation of data, while others consider it a branch of mathematics concerned with collecting and interpreting data. Because of its empirical roots and its focus on applications, statistics is usually considered to be a distinct mathematical science rather than a branch of mathematics. Much of statistics is non-mathematical: ensuring that data collection is undertaken in a way that allows valid conclusions to be drawn; coding and archiving of data so that information is retained and made useful for international comparisons of official statistics; reporting of results and summarised data (tables and graphs) in ways that are comprehensible to those who need to make use of them; implementing procedures that ensure the privacy of census information.
You're a wolf, you are.
Dressed like a fox,
Got me tied up in knots over you
But I think that I'm just a flavor you crave on instinct,
'Cause you don't feel ashamed,
But it won't make a difference.
I've been wrong so many times.
Let's be realistic,
I'm only a statistic to you,
And it hurts so deep inside.
Maybe I'm sadistic,
I love when you inflict it on me.
You can take my time,
'Cause after all, well,
The earth's just a ball that revolves around you.
And all my friends and family try to warn me,
But like a moth to flame,
Darling, lead the way,
'Cause I'm afraid of change,
So meet me in your bedroom.
I've been wrong so many times.
Let's be realistic,
I'm only a statistic to you,
And it hurts so deep inside.
Maybe I'm sadistic,
I can't get myself off of you.
I'm only a statistic to you.
I can't get myself off of...
I just caught you like a disease.
It's terminal and I'm going down.
But you're afraid that's worse than death
And I gotta get out of this mess.
You're a wolf, you are.
You are.
(Only a statistic to you.)
I've been wrong so many times.
Let's be realistic,
I'm only a statistic to you,
And it hurts so deep inside.
Maybe I'm sadistic,
I can't get myself off of you.
I'm only a statistic to you.
Alright alright alright ya'll settle down settle down settle down.
If you don't know where you are this is STATISTICS 101
And I'm your teacher LYFE JENNINGS in the flesh baby.
Books out. Let's go!
[Chorus:]
25% of all men are unstable
25% of all men can't be faithful
30% of them don't mean what they say
And 10% of them in maybe 20 is gay
That leaves you a 10% chance of ever finding your man
That means you better pay attention to these words that I'm sayin
I'm gonna teach you how expose the 90%
And show you what to do to keep the other 10.
Rule #1!
Don't be a booty call
If he don't respect you girl he gone forget you girl
Rule #2!
If he's in a relationship
If he will cheat on her that means he will cheat on you
Rule #3!
Tell him that you're celibate
And if he wants some of your goodies he gone have to work for it
Rule #4!
Be the person you wanna find
Don't be a nickel out here lookin' for a dime
Statistics!
15% of all men got a complex
15% of all men don't practice safe sex
20% of them come from homes without a father
And there's a 50/50 chance that you'll marry a coward
Something to think about when you're taking a shower
Something to swallow when you're drinking bottled water
I'm gonna teach you how to expose the 90%
And show you what to do to keep the other 10
[Chorus]
Be patient! He's waiting!
You don't gotta settle for that
Leave what is past alone!
Get you a backbone!
Stop being sorry for yourself!
Have you no checklist?
It's gonna take patience
Time is still wastin'
Don't be a booty call
If he don't respect you girl he gone forget you girl
If he's in a relationship
If he will cheat on her that means he will cheat on you
Tell him that you're celibate
And if he wants some of your goodies he gon't have to work for it.
Be the person you wanna find
In a nightclub, in some unfamiliar town. show is sold out yet he some how feels alone.
Back at home now, sees old friends and dates a girl. says he's happy but he wants to go on tour.
Sleep has poisoned me with drunken insecurities.
I've forgotten why i've called you.
Maybe it's or maybe just to let you know.
I've got no one to talk to.
I've got no one to talk to.
It's just as well that you let me go, at least you've got a story you can tell to all those guys who pull up your shirt and rub your thighs.
well i guess i just called to say "hi."
Staring at the phone, i'm wondering if you've gotten home.
Maybe you've always been sleeping.
I'll give you one more try, maybe just to say goodbye.
I'll find someone to live through.
I'm bored of myself only wanting to be you.
I'm intimate with your machine, i memorize what it says to me:
"kate and i are busy right now. but i'm sure we'll get a hold of you sometime."
Another chapter has begun
All the old stories are done
A foreword
A way to begin
Let's start over
I'm dying to be living
And things seem better
From the start
And I don't care if I finish this time
Bestsellers fly off of the shelves
The critics can't help themselves
A foreword
A way to begin
Let's start over
I'm dying to be living
And things seem better
From the start
And I don't care if I finish this time
Spent alone
I don't want to leave my home
If I call
Late at night
Just say everything is alright
Say you will, say you will
Please surrender to me
Say you will, say you will
Please say that I can take you this moment
Please say you'll let me take you for my wife
Our love will grow tonight if you will
Give me your answer, give me your answer
You will honour and obey me
I will love and cherish you
For poor or richer, darling
Forsaking everyone but you
Say you will, say you will
Please surrender to me
Say you will, say you will
Our love will grow tonight if you will
Give me your answer, give me your answer
With this body I thee worship
Let them forever hold their peace
For worse or for better darling
Only unto you as long as you may live
I will love and comfort you, yeah
If you only say that you will
Take me illegal or lawful
To have and to hold from this day forward
Please surrender to me
Say you will, say you will
Give me your answer, give me your answer
Please say that I can take you this moment
Please say that I can trust you tonight
Please surrender to me
Say you will, say you will
And I suppose you weren't lying to me
Just mainly misleading
And you are right, no promises were made
But the things you said to me
So who are you...
Holding when you're sleeping next to me?
And who do you...
Picture when you're on the phone with me?
And at the bar, or when you called my cell
You told me not to tell
So you felt free, it came at my expense
An inconvenience to you
So who are you...
Holding when you're sleeping next to me?
And who do you...
And you save yourself
For someone else
They don't concur
From drunken slurs
To words in cards
The best is not so hard
By(e) now, I'm better off alone
Call me, I'm better on the phone
And then people change
Into ideas
Who you love more
And the truths come out
And they hurt so much
Ignorance was so blissful
By(e) now, I'm better off alone
Call me, I'm better on the phone
By(e) now, I'm better off alone
Hey there, can't you find me?
You're stranded, between stations...
I'm playing songs from all the bands that I love
Because no one ever calls in
And the record's spinning as the clock is ticking
And I don't know who is listening
We're pausing, station id
I'll backsell, if you pay me
I'm playing songs from all the bands that I love
Because no one ever calls in
And the record's spinning as the clock is ticking
And I don't know who is listening
And this will be my final broadcast
You could say we're switching formats
I'm signing off for one last time, so thanks...
And this will be my final broadcast
You could say we're switching formats
I'm signing off for one last time, so thanks...
And this will be my final broadcast
You could say we're switching formats
The songs are all done and as they go down on tape,
the critics click their pens.
Comparisons made and names,
dropped in all bold face, does he sound like his best friends? And please don't pout, or sing of love,
it's all been done.
Why dont you... sing a song,
with one of those pop melodies,
Here we are, at the end
Think of where we have been
From not knowing names
To begging to be heard
And then
We find ourselves remembering
The smallest things
Which before were overlooked
Freaking out
Through our cell phones we shout
For changing
When we said that we would
Not your fault
No promises made at all
And all the same
His hands and feet are tired now,
from years of corporate climb.
He will never be quite high enough,
to see that all his fax machines will tell him things,
but not listen or give advice.
Help me, I've got to find the name
of this song
The words, have haunted me for days
and the melody is...
Begging to be heard
Over and over, again and again
Listened to and replayed
Over and over, again and again
Lately, songs don't sound the same
as they did
The verses, sound written just for me
And the chorus comes back...
And it's hard to think I'll ever be the same
And it's hard to think I'll ever be the same again
Your eyes always look towards the ground
Your ears seem to follow the sounds
And nobody knows your name
And nobody knows your name
Your hands hold each other so tight
They break to push the hair away from your eyes
And nobody knows your name
And nobody knows your name
Your lips part to drink a little more
Your eyelashes wish their way to the floor
And nobody knows your name
And nobody knows your name
And nobody knows your name
Before digital there was analog,
And now vintage is all the rage.
CDs skipped and vinyl's back,
Mp3s and not 8-track,
And cassettes have been erased.

Beta turned to DVD.
Claymation is gone and now it's all become CG.
Movie sets just dont exist, but there's always a blue screen.

Let's go back in time.

But most of all
I'm the sole player
In my own theater
It's such a hit
But most of all

I can't really say that I'm in.
Don't call back, no don't bother,
I wont pick up the phone again.
And I've listened to you,
And you've spoken true.
When all is said and done,
Find another one.
Please wait sir, things get better;
Just hear what we've got in store.
If you give me a moment,
I could describe it to you some more.
And I've listened to you,
And you spoke untrue.
When all's said and done,
Find another one.

Repeat that, you're breaking up
This distance is getting tough
I'm anxious to get on a jet plane
And leave here, it's not the same
So stay, and say you will
Not change, I know you will
These timezones, it must be getting late
Is it early? I don't know the date
You're always so far away
Even distanced, when we're in the same place
So stay, and say you will
Not change, I know you will

We're the statistics that can change the world,
We're the statistics that can change the way things work:
In a billion different places
As a billion individuals, yeah!
You think we should sit out and let the world deal with it's problems,
But I don't think that's the way to go. Oh!
You say the majority always wins: well why should we let them?
Why not let the others speak their minds, and let them change our lives?
We're the statistics that can change the world,
We're the statistics that can change the way things work:
In a billion different places
As a billion individuals, yeah!
Sure you're just one person,
But what if a billion persons made the choice to make a stand?
Don't be afraid to be the first to go in the right direction,
And don't be afraid to stand alone.
'Cause after you've taken that first step of faith,
Then others will follow and you won't be alone
As you go against the flow!
We're the statistics that can change the world,
We're the statistics that can change the way things work:
In a billion different places
As a billion individuals, yeah!
Now is your time, even if you don't make the headlines,
Now is your time to shine!
Now is your time, even if you don't make the headlines,
Now is your time to shine!
We're the statistics that can change the world,
We're the statistics that can change the way things work:
In a billion different places
As a billion individuals...
We're the statistics that can change the world,
We're the statistics that can change the way things work:
In a billion different places
As a billion individuals, yeah!
