The Office of Communications (Welsh: Y Swyddfa Gyfathrebiadau), commonly known as Ofcom, is the government-approved regulatory and competition authority for the broadcasting, telecommunications and postal industries of the United Kingdom. Ofcom was initially established by the Office of Communications Act 2002 and received its full authority from the Communications Act 2003.
Ofcom has wide-ranging powers across the television, radio, internet, telecoms and postal sectors. It has a statutory duty to represent the interests of citizens and consumers by promoting competition and protecting the public from what might be considered harmful or offensive material. Some of the main areas Ofcom presides over are licensing, research, codes and policies, complaints, competition and protecting the radio spectrum from abuse.
The creation of Ofcom was announced in the Queen's Speech to the UK parliament in June 2001. The new body, which would replace several existing authorities, was conceived as a "super-regulator" to oversee media channels that were rapidly converging through digital transmission.

Jeremy Charles Robert Clarkson (born 11 April 1960) is an English broadcaster, journalist and writer who specialises in motoring. He is best known for his role on the BBC TV show Top Gear along with co-presenters Richard Hammond and James May. He also writes weekly columns for The Sunday Times and The Sun.
From a career as a local journalist in Northern England, Clarkson rose to public prominence as a presenter of the original format of Top Gear in 1988. Since the mid-1990s, Clarkson has become a recognised public personality, regularly appearing on British television presenting his own shows and appearing as a guest on other shows. As well as motoring, Clarkson has produced programmes and books on subjects such as history and engineering. From 1998 to 2000 he also hosted his own chat show, Clarkson.
His opinionated but humorous tongue-in-cheek writing and presenting style has often generated much public reaction to his viewpoints. His actions both privately and as a Top Gear presenter have also sometimes resulted in criticism from the media, politicians, pressure groups and the public.

Britain is also the focus for our feature this week. The UK's Office of Communications (OFCOM) is the regulator enforcing media regulations for all news organisations in the UK - except the BBC. OFCOM has pursued complaints against Russia's RT, Iran's Press TV, and Murdoch's News Corporation, but the BBC operates under different rules. With elections approaching, the performance of the media is thrown into sharp relief and the remit of OFCOM needs a closer look. The Listening Post's Flo Phillips reports. -

OFCOM has pursued complaints against Russia's RT, Iran's Press TV, and Murdoch's News Corporation, but the BBC operates under different rules.
With elections approaching, the performance of the media is thrown into sharp relief and the remit of OFCOM needs a closer look. The Listening Post's Flo Phillips reports.

According to the report, published by Ofcom on Monday, the Russian state-funded channel’s coverage of events in Ukraine was neither objective or impartial.
The report flagged four reports broadcast about Russia's invasion and annexation of Crimea in March, which broke Ofcom rules.

Clarkson had to apologise when unscreened footage emerged of him mumbling the n-word while reciting the children's nursery rhyme "eeny, meeny, miny, moe" to choose between two cars and the show was also censured by Ofcom for breaching broadcasting rules after Clarkson used a "racial" term during the programme's Burma special.
Last year ended with the motoring show's crew forced to flee Argentina when it emerged they were using a Porsche with the registration number H982 FKL, which some people suggested could refer to the Falklands conflict of 1982.
Since then, Clarkson has left the show when the BBC allowed his contract to run down after an internal investigation found he attacked show producer Oisin Tymon in an unprovoked assault.
His co-stars, Hammond and James May, are believed to have also left the show, along with producer Andy Wilman, and are expected to launch a rival show with another broadcaster.

Passengers flying in or out of the UK are being advised to have their electronic gadgets in hand luggage sufficiently charged so they can be switched on.
Security staff will check some passengers to see if their electrical devices are charged.

Canary wharf (& Canada Tower) by night

At Christmas's past the top of Canada Tower, the pyramid bit used to have different colour lights lighting it up, I have not seen this latey, maybe this year (2011) ?

Your Own Pirate Radio station?

I suggest the FM-25B Kit, as seen in this video. If you're into AM, then I'd recommend the AM-25. I also own one of these and have been pleased with it. You must build it correctly for it to work.
You can also do a search on ebay for pre-built factory tested Ramsey kits.
To check for open frequencies in your area, use common sense, and the following link:

The radio station in this video (MiloFM) does NOT make it to 1 mile under normal conditions. It barely gets out of the antenna before fading out. I have done this intentionally to keep the station within legal limits.
The higher the antenna, the better the range for FM, pure and simple. In a flat area, like Nebraska, your station will travel farther. For AM, this does not matter. The more power you put out on AM, the farther it will go. Remember, there are limits to power. Do the research.
In summary, the main things you need to broadcast a radio station are:
A transmitter
An antenna designed for whichever band you choose
Audio source
Common sense.
Also... licensed radio stations have the rights, you do not. If you broadcast on their frequencies, they can, and will come and get you and chop your balls off (not kidding :D)
