Bilbao is a city in northern Spain, the largest city in the province of Biscay and in the Basque Country as a whole. It is also the largest city proper in northern Spain. Bilbao is the tenth largest city in Spain, with a population of 345,141 as of 2015.[6] The Bilbao metropolitan area has 1,037,847 inhabitants,[7][8][9] making it one of the most populous metropolitan areas in northern Spain; with a population of 875,552[10] the comarca of Greater Bilbao is the fifth-largest urban area in Spain. Bilbao is also the main urban area in what is defined as the Greater Basque region.
Bilbao is situated in the north-central part of Spain, some 16 kilometres (10 mi) south of the Bay of Biscay, where the economic social development is located, where the estuary of Bilbao is formed. Its main urban core is surrounded by two small mountain ranges with an average elevation of 400 metres (1,300 ft).[11] Its climate is shaped by the Bay of Biscay low-pressure systems and mild air, moderating summer temperatures by Iberian standards, with low sunshine and high rainfall. The annual temperature range is low for its latitude.
After its foundation in the early 14th century by Diego López V de Haro, head of the powerful Haro family, Bilbao was a commercial hub of the Basque Country that enjoyed significant importance in Green Spain. This was due to its port activity based on the export of iron extracted from the Biscayan quarries. Throughout the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth, Bilbao experienced heavy industrialisation, making it the centre of the second-most industrialised region of Spain, behind Barcelona.[12][13] At the same time an extraordinary population explosion prompted the annexation of several adjacent municipalities. Nowadays, Bilbao is a vigorous service city that is experiencing an ongoing social, economic, and aesthetic revitalisation process, started by the iconic Bilbao Guggenheim Museum,[12][14][15][16] and continued by infrastructure investments, such as the airport terminal, the rapid transit system, the tram line, the Azkuna Zentroa, and the currently under development Abandoibarra and Zorrozaurre renewal projects.[17]
Bilbao is also home to football club Athletic Club de Bilbao, a significant symbol for Basque nationalism[18] due to its promotion of only Basque players and being one of the most successful clubs in Spanish football history.
On 19 May 2010, the city of Bilbao was recognised with the Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize, awarded by the city state of Singapore, in collaboration with the Swedish Nobel Academy.[19] Considered the Nobel Prize for urbanism, it was handed out on 29 June 2010. On 7 January 2013, its mayor, Iñaki Azkuna, received the 2012 World Mayor Prize awarded every two years by the British foundation The City Mayors Foundation, in recognition of the urban transformation experienced by the Biscayan capital since the 1990s.[20][21] On 8 November 2017, Bilbao was chosen the Best European City 2018 at The Urbanism Awards 2018, awarded by the international organisation The Academy of Urbanism.

ARTKLASS BUILDING: If you stand before this building designed by architects Robert Krier and Marc Breitman in the Plaza Euskadi, your gaze is drawn automatically to the green and golden domes. They are the top of a building covering 45,000 square metres, with 180 apartments on eight floors; it occupies a block facing in six different directions. The objective set by Krier has been to recover the traditional style of the Ensanche houses without losing modernity.
IBERDROLA TOWER: Is an office skyscraper in Bilbao, Spain. Its construction started on 19 March 2009 and was officially inaugurated by King Juan Carlos I on 21 February 2012. The tower has a height of 165 metres (541 feet) tall and has 40 floors. The first eight floors of the tower were to hold a hotel by the Spanish hotel chain ABBA, but the project was eventually cancelled. The hotel will be replaced by an auditorium with the capacity of 200 people. The remaining floors have an office usage. The tower, built as Iberdrola's headquarters, is the tallest building in the Basque Country and the city of Bilbao, and the eighth tallest building in Spain.
CAMPA DE LOS INGLESES PARK: The park of the Campa de los Ingleses occupies the green space between Guggenheim Museum Bilbao and Deusto Bridge as well as the new buildings like the Library of the University of Deusto, the Auditorium of the UPV-EHU and the Iberdrola Tower, among others. This area, which in its time has been a British cemetery, the Athletic football ground, is 25,000 m2 and was landscaped by Diana Balmori, who also designed the Plaza de Euskadi.
GUGGENHEIM MUSEUM: Is a museum of modern and contemporary art designed by Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry, and located in Bilbao, Basque Country, Spain. The museum was inaugurated on 18 October 1997 by King Juan Carlos I of Spain, with an exhibition of 250 contemporary works of art. Built alongside the Nervion River, which runs through the city of Bilbao to the Cantabrian Sea, it is one of several museums belonging to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and features permanent and visiting exhibits of works by Spanish and international artists. It is one of the largest museums in Spain.
LA SALVE BRIDGE: Is a quarter in the 2nd district of the city of Bilbao, Spain. It gains its name from the fact that sailors, returning from sea, would first see the tower of the Basilica of Begoña at this point as ships returned up the river Nervión, which runs through the city. According to folklore, they would start praying to the Virgin Begoña, the patron saint of the region, thanking her for protecting them during their time at sea.
Today, the main landmark of the area is La Salve Bridge, popular name for the Princes of Spain cable-stayed bridge, built in the 1970s to provide a northern access over the river to the city. This bridge gained popularity when the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao was built right under it, literally merging its structure into the museum's.

Bilbao - Geography and Demographics
Bilbao is located near the northern edge of the Iberian Peninsula, about 16 kilometres from the Bay of Biscay. It covers an area of 40.65 square kilometres , of which 17.35 square kilometres are urban and the remaining 23.30 square kilometres consist of the surrounding mountains. The official average altitude is 19 metres , although there are measurements between 6 metres and 32 metres . It is also the core of the comarca of Greater Bilbao. It is surrounded by the municipalities of Derio, Etxebarri, Galdakao, Loiu, Sondika, and Zamudio to the north; Arrigorriaga and Basauri to the west; Alonsotegi to the south; and Barakaldo and Erandio to the east.

Greater Bilbao (Basque: Bilboaldea, Spanish: Gran Bilbao) is an administrative division of the province of Biscay, in the Basque Country, Spain. It is one of the seven comarcas of Biscay and the most populated one. The capital city of Greater Bilbao is Bilbao.
Greater Bilbao is made by the municipalities situated along the Estuary of Bilbao which themselves form a conurbation, which metropolitan area is the fifth most populous in Spain.
Geography
Greater Bilbao, or Bilboaldea, is located at the northwest of the province of Biscay, limiting with the comarcas of Enkarterri in the west, Mungialdea and Busturialdea in the east, Durangaldea in the southeast and Arratia-Nerbioi in the south. The Bay of Biscay limits at north.

Bilbao is situated in the north-central part of Spain, some 16 kilometres (10 mi) south of the Bay of Biscay, where the economic social development is located, where the estuary of Bilbao is formed. Its main urban core is surrounded by two small mountain ranges with an average elevation of 400 metres (1,300 ft).[11] Its climate is shaped by the Bay of Biscay low-pressure systems and mild air, moderating summer temperatures by Iberian standards, with low sunshine and high rainfall. The annual temperature range is low for its latitude.
After its foundation in the early 14th century by Diego López V de Haro, head of the powerful Haro family, Bilbao was a commercial hub of the Basque Country that enjoyed significant importance in Green Spain. This was due to its port activity based on the export of iron extracted from the Biscayan quarries. Throughout the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth, Bilbao experienced heavy industrialisation, making it the centre of the second-most industrialised region of Spain, behind Barcelona.[12][13] At the same time an extraordinary population explosion prompted the annexation of several adjacent municipalities. Nowadays, Bilbao is a vigorous service city that is experiencing an ongoing social, economic, and aesthetic revitalisation process, started by the iconic Bilbao Guggenheim Museum,[12][14][15][16] and continued by infrastructure investments, such as the airport terminal, the rapid transit system, the tram line, the Azkuna Zentroa, and the currently under development Abandoibarra and Zorrozaurre renewal projects.[17]
Bilbao is also home to football club Athletic Club de Bilbao, a significant symbol for Basque nationalism[18] due to its promotion of only Basque players and being one of the most successful clubs in Spanish football history.
On 19 May 2010, the city of Bilbao was recognised with the Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize, awarded by the city state of Singapore, in collaboration with the Swedish Nobel Academy.[19] Considered the Nobel Prize for urbanism, it was handed out on 29 June 2010. On 7 January 2013, its mayor, Iñaki Azkuna, received the 2012 World Mayor Prize awarded every two years by the British foundation The City Mayors Foundation, in recognition of the urban transformation experienced by the Biscayan capital since the 1990s.[20][21] On 8 November 2017, Bilbao was chosen the Best European City 2018 at The Urbanism Awards 2018, awarded by the international organisation The Academy of Urbanism.

Bilbao is a city in northern Spain, the largest city in the province of Biscay and in the Basque Country as a whole. It is also the largest city proper in northern Spain. Bilbao is the tenth largest city in Spain, with a population of 345,141 as of 2015. The Bilbao metropolitan area has 1,037,847 inhabitants, making it one of the most populous metropolitan areas in northern Spain; with a population of 875,552 the comarca of Greater Bilbao is the fifth-largest urban area in Spain. Bilbao is also the main urban area in what is defined as the Greater Basque region.
ARTKLASS BUILDING: If you stand before this building designed by architects Robert Krier and Marc Breitman in the Plaza Euskadi, your gaze is drawn automatically to the green and golden domes. They are the top of a building covering 45,000 square metres, with 180 apartments on eight floors; it occupies a block facing in six different directions. The objective set by Krier has been to recover the traditional style of the Ensanche houses without losing modernity.
IBERDROLA TOWER: Is an office skyscraper in Bilbao, Spain. Its construction started on 19 March 2009 and was officially inaugurated by King Juan Carlos I on 21 February 2012. The tower has a height of 165 metres (541 feet) tall and has 40 floors. The first eight floors of the tower were to hold a hotel by the Spanish hotel chain ABBA, but the project was eventually cancelled. The hotel will be replaced by an auditorium with the capacity of 200 people. The remaining floors have an office usage. The tower, built as Iberdrola's headquarters, is the tallest building in the Basque Country and the city of Bilbao, and the eighth tallest building in Spain.
CAMPA DE LOS INGLESES PARK: The park of the Campa de los Ingleses occupies the green space between Guggenheim Museum Bilbao and Deusto Bridge as well as the new buildings like the Library of the University of Deusto, the Auditorium of the UPV-EHU and the Iberdrola Tower, among others. This area, which in its time has been a British cemetery, the Athletic football ground, is 25,000 m2 and was landscaped by Diana Balmori, who also designed the Plaza de Euskadi.
GUGGENHEIM MUSEUM: Is a museum of modern and contemporary art designed by Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry, and located in Bilbao, Basque Country, Spain. The museum was inaugurated on 18 October 1997 by King Juan Carlos I of Spain, with an exhibition of 250 contemporary works of art. Built alongside the Nervion River, which runs through the city of Bilbao to the Cantabrian Sea, it is one of several museums belonging to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and features permanent and visiting exhibits of works by Spanish and international artists. It is one of the largest museums in Spain.
LA SALVE BRIDGE: Is a quarter in the 2nd district of the city of Bilbao, Spain. It gains its name from the fact that sailors, returning from sea, would first see the tower of the Basilica of Begoña at this point as ships returned up the river Nervión, which runs through the city. According to folklore, they would start praying to the Virgin Begoña, the patron saint of the region, thanking her for protecting them during their time at sea.
Today, the main landmark of the area is La Salve Bridge, popular name for the Princes of Spain cable-stayed bridge, built in the 1970s to provide a northern access over the river to the city. This bridge gained popularity when the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao was built right under it, literally merging its structure into the museum's.

Bilbao is located near the northern edge of the Iberian Peninsula, about 16 kilometres from the Bay of Biscay. It covers an area of 40.65 square kilometres , of which 17.35 square kilometres are urban and the remaining 23.30 square kilometres consist of the surrounding mountains. The official average altitude is 19 metres , although there are measurements between 6 metres and 32 metres . It is also the core of the comarca of Greater Bilbao. It is surrounded by the municipalities of Derio, Etxebarri, Galdakao, Loiu, Sondika, and Zamudio to the north; Arrigorriaga and Basauri to the west; Alonsotegi to the south; and Barakaldo and Erandio to the east.

Bilbao is located near the northern edge of the Iberian Peninsula, about 16 kilometres from the Bay of Biscay. It covers an area of 40.65 square kilometres , of which 17.35 square kilometres are urban and the remaining 23.30 square kilometres consist of the surrounding mountains. The official average altitude is 19 metres , although there are measurements between 6 metres and 32 metres . It is also the core of the comarca of Greater Bilbao. It is surrounded by the municipalities of Derio, Etxebarri, Galdakao, Loiu, Sondika, and Zamudio to the north; Arrigorriaga and Basauri to the west; Alonsotegi to the south; and Barakaldo and Erandio to the east.

Another thing we like about Bilbao is that it is surrounded by green hills and very close to the coast. Bilbao is the beating heart of the Basque Country and also its largest city. It is the most touristic and cosmopolitan city in the region, which continues to evolve constantly. Its population soared during industrialization and it prospered thanks to steel production, shipping, and banking.
However, by the 1970s the city had turned into a gigantic gray chimney and a serious economic crisis had just hit. It was then that the plan was conceived and Bilbao began its journey towards rebirth. The old industrial complexes along the Nervión River were demolished and new projects began to improve the infrastructure and general growth of the city.
Today, Bilbao boasts the Guggenheim museum designed by architect Frank Gehry, a contemporary and timeless subway system designed by Sir Norman Foster, an airport by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, and a community center (La Alhóndiga) designed by Philippe Starck. . The list does not end there. Today, Bilbao is sophisticated and full of action. Yet it is, at the same time, a relaxed and relatively stress-free city.
Bilbao is a dream city with much to offer its visitors. Everything you are looking for, be it tasty Basque cuisine, Basque culture, shopping, partying, etc., you will find it here, relax and enjoy!!

El Congreso de España aprobó un proyecto de ley que busca otorgar la nacionalidad española a quien lleve uno de los apellidos que aparecen en esta nota y demuestren ser descendientes de judíos sefardíes.
España abrirá un plazo de dos años para que los interesados completen los trámites de una iniciativa que puede beneficiar a más de 3,5 millones de judíos en todo el mundo, entre ellos medio millón en Israel.
Según las autoridades españoles, la medida busca enmendar un "error histórico", ya que en 1492, 100 mil judíos fueron expulsados de España. Aquellos que acrediten tener dichos apellidos vivan o no en España, podrán obtener doble nacionalidad. "Aquellos ciudadanos extranjeros sefardíes que prueben dicha condición y su especial vinculación con nuestro país, aunque no tengan residencia legal en España, cualquiera sea su ideología, religión o creencias", señala el artículo 23 del Código Civil.

La banda vizcaína THE NAME actualmente se encuentra compuesta por Guillermo Fernández (guitarra y voz), Greg Montero (guitarra) y Fran Pesadillas (Batería).
THE NAME nace en Bilbao en Enero de 2003. Durante ese año el grupo se dedica a preparar un repertorio aceptable, el cual les permita empezar a plasmar en directo su estilo, un metal contemporáneo, potente y melódico. Al poco tiempo y teniendo en su haber más de diez temas propios, en 2004, la banda decide grabar su primer trabajo autoproducido en forma de maqueta. Seis temas lo componen: "Notwithstanding", "Dying", "Reason To Live", "Secret Universe", "Neurosis" y "I Feel Your Life". Cortes contundentes, metálicos, donde la fuerza, melodía y juegos vocales se funden durante cerca de cuarenta minutos. El grupo no cesa su actividad en cuanto a conciertos y nuevas composiciones.
En Julio de 2005 THE NAME participa en el Primer Certamen de bandas locales de Sestao obteniendo el primer puesto. Gracias a este reconocimiento, la banda se afianza aún más, emprendiendo nuevos proyectos, entre ellos, la preparación de lo que sería su próximo CD. Después de un largo periodo de actividad en cuanto a composiciones y conciertos, en noviembre de 2006 THE NAME comienza la grabación de su primer disco titulado "...as we are". Un total de ocho temas son los que componen el disco: "Invisible", "Hypocrite", "Aún sigo ahí", "Perfect Day", "Tu disfraz", "A Life In 10 Minutes" y dos temas en directo: "Invisible" y "Secret Universe". Todos ellos siguen en la línea de THE NAME: temas contundentes donde la melodía, fuerza y melancolía se unen para dar forma a un disco definido y maduro.
Durante el periodo de grabación de aproximadamente tres meses, THE NAME se clasifica para la 19ª Edición del Concurso Pop-rock Villa de Bilbao. Finalmente en junio de 2007 sale a la venta "...as we are". Tras meses de buenas críticas tanto de medios como de público en general, el grupo se clasifica como finalista entre 80 bandas en el I Certamen de bandas Gaztealdia, quedando en 4ª posición. En febrero de 2008 el grupo tiene cambios en su formación, y continúa con la promoción y presentación de "...as we are" en directo. En octubre del 2008 la banda participa en la Primera edición del festival Barakaldo Rockaldia, compartiendo escenario con grupos como Airless, StormZone, Yesterday & Today...
A lo largo del 2009 THE NAME participa en varios certámenes como Barakaldo Gaztealdia, Pop-Rock de Bilbovisión, etc., llegando a las fases finales de los concursos. Todas esas actuaciones hacen madurar a la banda, hacerse un equipo sólido, coger mucha experiencia, crecer en el sentido de ideas musicales y adquirir fuerza de sonido. A finales del 2009 la banda tiene en su poder más de una decena de nuevas composiciones grabadas en forma de una maqueta. En enero del 2010 empieza la grabación del tercer trabajo de la banda que a mediados de marzo de 2011 ve la luz en forma de en un LP titulado “Identidem” con 10 canciones en castellano: “Si no hay perdón”, “Aquella vez”, “Injusto final”, “Contemplándote”, “Mi realidad”, “Te fuiste y fin”, “Rezar por ti”, “En ese lugar”, “Jack” y “Almas que se van”. En abril de 2011 la banda empieza la gira de presentación del disco, que arranca en la sala Rock Star Live de Barakaldo, incorporando en su alineación un nuevo componente: Axier Báez se encarga del teclado y los coros.
Tras varios conciertos a nivel nacional, en mayo de 2012 THE NAME participa en la Edición 2012 de Wolfest en Bilbao, ganando el Premio Musicopolis, y el Premio Especial del Público. En junio de 2012, el grupo participa en la primera edición del Festival de Emisión Pirata “Cuatro décadas de Radio Rock”, celebrado en plato de Revirock (Madrid), compartiendo escenario con grupos como Ankor, Exkissitos y Jorge Salan entre otros.
Actualmente la banda se encuentra concluyendo la grabacion de su cuarto album titulado "Momentos".

Bilbao is a city in northern Spain, the largest city in the province of Biscay and in the Basque Country as a whole. It is also the largest city proper in northern Spain. Bilbao is the tenth largest city in Spain, with a population of 345,141 as of 2015.[6] The Bilbao metropolitan area has 1,037,847 inhabitants,[7][8][9] making it one of the most populous metropolitan areas in northern Spain; with a population of 875,552[10] the comarca of Greater Bilbao is the fifth-largest urban area in Spain. Bilbao is also the main urban area in what is defined as the Greater Basque region.
Bilbao is situated in the north-central part of Spain, some 16 kilometres (10 mi) south of the Bay of Biscay, where the economic social development is located, where the estuary of Bilbao is formed. Its main urban core is surrounded by two small mountain ranges with an average elevation of 400 metres (1,300 ft).[11] Its climate is shaped by the Bay of Biscay low-pressure systems and mild air, moderating summer temperatures by Iberian standards, with low sunshine and high rainfall. The annual temperature range is low for its latitude.
After its foundation in the early 14th century by Diego López V de Haro, head of the powerful Haro family, Bilbao was a commercial hub of the Basque Country that enjoyed significant importance in Green Spain. This was due to its port activity based on the export of iron extracted from the Biscayan quarries. Throughout the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth, Bilbao experienced heavy industrialisation, making it the centre of the second-most industrialised region of Spain, behind Barcelona.[12][13] At the same time an extraordinary population explosion prompted the annexation of several adjacent municipalities. Nowadays, Bilbao is a vigorous service city that is experiencing an ongoing social, economic, and aesthetic revitalisation process, started by the iconic Bilbao Guggenheim Museum,[12][14][15][16] and continued by infrastructure investments, such as the airport terminal, the rapid transit system, the tram line, the Azkuna Zentroa, and the currently under development Abandoibarra and Zorrozaurre renewal projects.[17]
Bilbao is also home to football club Athletic Club de Bilbao, a significant symbol for Basque nationalism[18] due to its promotion of only Basque players and being one of the most successful clubs in Spanish football history.
On 19 May 2010, the city of Bilbao was recognised with the Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize, awarded by the city state of Singapore, in collaboration with the Swedish Nobel Academy.[19] Considered the Nobel Prize for urbanism, it was handed out on 29 June 2010. On 7 January 2013, its mayor, Iñaki Azkuna, received the 2012 World Mayor Prize awarded every two years by the British foundation The City Mayors Foundation, in recognition of the urban transformation experienced by the Biscayan capital since the 1990s.[20][21] On 8 November 2017, Bilbao was chosen the Best European City 2018 at The Urbanism Awards 2018, awarded by the international organisation The Academy of Urbanism.

Bilbao is also the main urban area in what is defined as the Greater Basque region.
ARTKLASS BUILDING: If you stand before this building designed by architects Robert Krier and Marc Breitman in the Plaza Euskadi, your gaze is drawn automatically to the green and golden domes. They are the top of a building covering 45,000 square metres, with 180 apartments on eight floors; it occupies a block facing in six different directions. The objective set by Krier has been to recover the traditional style of the Ensanche houses without losing modernity.
IBERDROLA TOWER: Is an office skyscraper in Bilbao, Spain. Its construction started on 19 March 2009 and was officially inaugurated by King Juan Carlos I on 21 February 2012. The tower has a height of 165 metres (541 feet) tall and has 40 floors. The first eight floors of the tower were to hold a hotel by the Spanish hotel chain ABBA, but the project was eventually cancelled. The hotel will be replaced by an auditorium with the capacity of 200 people. The remaining floors have an office usage. The tower, built as Iberdrola's headquarters, is the tallest building in the Basque Country and the city of Bilbao, and the eighth tallest building in Spain.
CAMPA DE LOS INGLESES PARK: The park of the Campa de los Ingleses occupies the green space between Guggenheim Museum Bilbao and Deusto Bridge as well as the new buildings like the Library of the University of Deusto, the Auditorium of the UPV-EHU and the Iberdrola Tower, among others. This area, which in its time has been a British cemetery, the Athletic football ground, is 25,000 m2 and was landscaped by Diana Balmori, who also designed the Plaza de Euskadi.
GUGGENHEIM MUSEUM: Is a museum of modern and contemporary art designed by Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry, and located in Bilbao, Basque Country, Spain. The museum was inaugurated on 18 October 1997 by King Juan Carlos I of Spain, with an exhibition of 250 contemporary works of art. Built alongside the Nervion River, which runs through the city of Bilbao to the Cantabrian Sea, it is one of several museums belonging to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and features permanent and visiting exhibits of works by Spanish and international artists. It is one of the largest museums in Spain.
LA SALVE BRIDGE: Is a quarter in the 2nd district of the city of Bilbao, Spain. It gains its name from the fact that sailors, returning from sea, would first see the tower of the Basilica of Begoña at this point as ships returned up the river Nervión, which runs through the city. According to folklore, they would start praying to the Virgin Begoña, the patron saint of the region, thanking her for protecting them during their time at sea.
Today, the main landmark of the area is La Salve Bridge, popular name for the Princes of Spain cable-stayed bridge, built in the 1970s to provide a northern access over the river to the city. This bridge gained popularity when the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao was built right under it, literally merging its structure into the museum's.

Bilbao is located near the northern edge of the Iberian Peninsula, about 16 kilometres from the Bay of Biscay. It covers an area of 40.65 square kilometres , of which 17.35 square kilometres are urban and the remaining 23.30 square kilometres consist of the surrounding mountains. The official average altitude is 19 metres , although there are measurements between 6 metres and 32 metres . It is also the core of the comarca of Greater Bilbao. It is surrounded by the municipalities of Derio, Etxebarri, Galdakao, Loiu, Sondika, and Zamudio to the north; Arrigorriaga and Basauri to the west; Alonsotegi to the south; and Barakaldo and Erandio to the east.

Greater Bilbao (Basque: Bilboaldea, Spanish: Gran Bilbao) is an administrative division of the province of Biscay, in the Basque Country, Spain. It is one of the seven comarcas of Biscay and the most populated one. The capital city of Greater Bilbao is Bilbao.
Greater Bilbao is made by the municipalities situated along the Estuary of Bilbao which themselves form a conurbation, which metropolitan area is the fifth most populous in Spain.
Geography
Greater Bilbao, or Bilboaldea, is located at the northwest of the province of Biscay, limiting with the comarcas of Enkarterri in the west, Mungialdea and Busturialdea in the east, Durangaldea in the southeast and Arratia-Nerbioi in the south. The Bay of Biscay limits at north.

Bilbao is the new modern face of the Basque Country. The city has been able to successfully blend traditional Basque culture with a new vision for the future. It is an essential visit for lovers of design and culture.
Another thing we like about Bilbao is that it is surrounded by green hills and very close to the coast. Bilbao is the beating heart of the Basque Country and also its largest city. It is the most touristic and cosmopolitan city in the region, which continues to evolve constantly. Its population soared during industrialization and it prospered thanks to steel production, shipping, and banking.
However, by the 1970s the city had turned into a gigantic gray chimney and a serious economic crisis had just hit. It was then that the plan was conceived and Bilbao began its journey towards rebirth. The old industrial complexes along the Nervión River were demolished and new projects began to improve the infrastructure and general growth of the city.
Today, Bilbao boasts the Guggenheim museum designed by architect Frank Gehry, a contemporary and timeless subway system designed by Sir Norman Foster, an airport by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, and a community center (La Alhóndiga) designed by Philippe Starck. . The list does not end there. Today, Bilbao is sophisticated and full of action. Yet it is, at the same time, a relaxed and relatively stress-free city.
Bilbao is a dream city with much to offer its visitors. Everything you are looking for, be it tasty Basque cuisine, Basque culture, shopping, partying, etc., you will find it here, relax and enjoy!!

Athletic Bilbao have the rule to promote local Basque talent and to promote the region. They can only sign players born in the Basque regions of France, Spain and Andorra, players with Basque heritage, or player raised in the Basque regions from under 12.There is also a ‘learned skills at a Basque club’ aspect to the policy that has been used recently to sign a Romanian player who has no heritage.
The club have been known to relax the conditions heavily if they is interest from big name players, trying to sign Forlan and Higuain in the past despite their Basque heritage being questionable

El Congreso de España aprobó un proyecto de ley que busca otorgar la nacionalidad española a quien lleve uno de los apellidos que aparecen en esta nota y demuestren ser descendientes de judíos sefardíes.
España abrirá un plazo de dos años para que los interesados completen los trámites de una iniciativa que puede beneficiar a más de 3,5 millones de judíos en todo el mundo, entre ellos medio millón en Israel.
Según las autoridades españoles, la medida busca enmendar un "error histórico", ya que en 1492, 100 mil judíos fueron expulsados de España. Aquellos que acrediten tener dichos apellidos vivan o no en España, podrán obtener doble nacionalidad. "Aquellos ciudadanos extranjeros sefardíes que prueben dicha condición y su especial vinculación con nuestro país, aunque no tengan residencia legal en España, cualquiera sea su ideología, religión o creencias", señala el artículo 23 del Código Civil.

La banda vizcaína THE NAME actualmente se encuentra compuesta por Guillermo Fernández (guitarra y voz), Greg Montero (guitarra) y Fran Pesadillas (Batería).
THE NAME nace en Bilbao en Enero de 2003. Durante ese año el grupo se dedica a preparar un repertorio aceptable, el cual les permita empezar a plasmar en directo su estilo, un metal contemporáneo, potente y melódico. Al poco tiempo y teniendo en su haber más de diez temas propios, en 2004, la banda decide grabar su primer trabajo autoproducido en forma de maqueta. Seis temas lo componen: "Notwithstanding", "Dying", "Reason To Live", "Secret Universe", "Neurosis" y "I Feel Your Life". Cortes contundentes, metálicos, donde la fuerza, melodía y juegos vocales se funden durante cerca de cuarenta minutos. El grupo no cesa su actividad en cuanto a conciertos y nuevas composiciones.
En Julio de 2005 THE NAME participa en el Primer Certamen de bandas locales de Sestao obteniendo el primer puesto. Gracias a este reconocimiento, la banda se afianza aún más, emprendiendo nuevos proyectos, entre ellos, la preparación de lo que sería su próximo CD. Después de un largo periodo de actividad en cuanto a composiciones y conciertos, en noviembre de 2006 THE NAME comienza la grabación de su primer disco titulado "...as we are". Un total de ocho temas son los que componen el disco: "Invisible", "Hypocrite", "Aún sigo ahí", "Perfect Day", "Tu disfraz", "A Life In 10 Minutes" y dos temas en directo: "Invisible" y "Secret Universe". Todos ellos siguen en la línea de THE NAME: temas contundentes donde la melodía, fuerza y melancolía se unen para dar forma a un disco definido y maduro.
Durante el periodo de grabación de aproximadamente tres meses, THE NAME se clasifica para la 19ª Edición del Concurso Pop-rock Villa de Bilbao. Finalmente en junio de 2007 sale a la venta "...as we are". Tras meses de buenas críticas tanto de medios como de público en general, el grupo se clasifica como finalista entre 80 bandas en el I Certamen de bandas Gaztealdia, quedando en 4ª posición. En febrero de 2008 el grupo tiene cambios en su formación, y continúa con la promoción y presentación de "...as we are" en directo. En octubre del 2008 la banda participa en la Primera edición del festival Barakaldo Rockaldia, compartiendo escenario con grupos como Airless, StormZone, Yesterday & Today...
A lo largo del 2009 THE NAME participa en varios certámenes como Barakaldo Gaztealdia, Pop-Rock de Bilbovisión, etc., llegando a las fases finales de los concursos. Todas esas actuaciones hacen madurar a la banda, hacerse un equipo sólido, coger mucha experiencia, crecer en el sentido de ideas musicales y adquirir fuerza de sonido. A finales del 2009 la banda tiene en su poder más de una decena de nuevas composiciones grabadas en forma de una maqueta. En enero del 2010 empieza la grabación del tercer trabajo de la banda que a mediados de marzo de 2011 ve la luz en forma de en un LP titulado “Identidem” con 10 canciones en castellano: “Si no hay perdón”, “Aquella vez”, “Injusto final”, “Contemplándote”, “Mi realidad”, “Te fuiste y fin”, “Rezar por ti”, “En ese lugar”, “Jack” y “Almas que se van”. En abril de 2011 la banda empieza la gira de presentación del disco, que arranca en la sala Rock Star Live de Barakaldo, incorporando en su alineación un nuevo componente: Axier Báez se encarga del teclado y los coros.
Tras varios conciertos a nivel nacional, en mayo de 2012 THE NAME participa en la Edición 2012 de Wolfest en Bilbao, ganando el Premio Musicopolis, y el Premio Especial del Público. En junio de 2012, el grupo participa en la primera edición del Festival de Emisión Pirata “Cuatro décadas de Radio Rock”, celebrado en plato de Revirock (Madrid), compartiendo escenario con grupos como Ankor, Exkissitos y Jorge Salan entre otros.
Actualmente la banda se encuentra concluyendo la grabacion de su cuarto album titulado "Momentos".
