Arguably Pakistan's most successful cricket captain, Khan played for the Pakistani cricket team from 1971 to 1992 and served as its captain intermittently throughout 1982–1992. After retiring from cricket at the end of the 1987 World Cup, he was called back to join the team in 1988. At 39, Khan led his teammates to Pakistan's first and only World Cup victory in 1992. He has a record of 3807 runs and 362 wickets in Test cricket, making him one of eight world cricketers to have achieved an 'All-rounder's Triple' in Test matches. On 14 July 2010, Khan was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.

Following a four-year break from acting, Khan made his comeback playing the title role in the historical Mangal Pandey: The Rising (2005), and later won a Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor for his role in Rang De Basanti (2006). The following year, he made his directorial debut with Taare Zameen Par, for which he received a Filmfare Award for Best Director. Hollow stone
Early morning you slip out the window
And glide through the dew
All alone
Back a thousand years
And you know there is no answer
They can give you, they can give you
For the words are not there for them to choose
After all
You are only a molecule drifting
An atom afloat
As you fall
Into space from your lonely shell of fear
You raise your hands and gaze in wonder
At a word you have seen somewhere before
Only you can see the men of wisdom
Moving slowly on together
Sun shines through the stone but once a year
Ceremony now will start anew
And so you sit beneath the linden tree
Staring ghostly at the altar
And all the problems that perplex you so
Dissolve and vanish deep into the water
No use asking what you are
Or what you'll be a millisecond after
As you plunge back into laughter now
Dancing and calling out your name
And still you sit beneath the linden tree
Staring ghostly at the altar
And all the problems that perplex you so
Looking at the ground
I'm crying for the sky
I know I can't hope to go
Where I can't be found
But when I close my eyes
I start to fly
The sun burns down on me
I'm praying he'll take me away
So very much higher
Than the peaks above me
I open myself, my spirit is free
And I start to fly
As a lead upon the breeze
Higher than the chains of mortal man
Surrounded by the wonders of a life I saw but never knew
Revealed the hazy secrets of the mountain man
We look ahead for miles
Down our avenue of lights
We motor past the airport
In the flatness of the night
Its fairy beads reflected
In the shining of your eye
Can it be that there's so many
That have been through this whole scene before ?
Staring at the ground
For I knew not what to do
I turned full around
And found myself, in you
The water looks so placid
To deny that it's a threat
Our weary faces smiling
With the energy that's left
Your flowing now has reached me
And I feel I want to stay
There's no need for a reason
We switched off our thinking hours ago
Still we're driving onward
Moving steady as a plane
Moonbug cars flash past us
As we head the other way
Across the dyke of worry
To a Nederlander dream
Now the morning opens slowly
On what seems a very special day
Staring at the ground
For I knew not what to do
I turned full around
Open your eyes if you dare
Future comes, all you know is that you'll share
Suns and moons, many cycles, miles of days
Your love shines like a beacon through the haze
Your twin lives twined together
Jigsaw, fit, snap together
Your twin heads crowned together
King and Queen, an extra gene
Can your words cope with infinity ?
You must communicate it perfectly
Don't you think you can surely make it now ?
You don't need anyone to show you how
Your twin lives twined together
Jigsaw, fit, snap together
Your twin heads crowned together
We escaped from the city
Miles and miles we did flee
Through the endless forest
To the edge of the sea
It was as though the world was ours
Lying on a deserted beach
Out of reach, out of their reach
I could see you much clearer
As we strode by the shore
All the peace all around us
Seemed impossibly pure
And then the sun shone through the clouds
Touched us with its magnificent beam
Made us clean, made us feel so clean
On our island of safety
From the alien crowd
Of the city of madness
Could we really be sure
That the peace would still remain
Sealed away from insanity
I'm standin' here after all is said and done
Wonderin' what I've undone
A new moon riese on the horizon
Lightin' the fields, smilin' my way
She knows I'll soon be gone
Findin' my way back home
I'm given life in strange lands
Findin' my way back home
Travellin' souls changin' changin' hands
We take so long sheddin'
All the shells and stones
Comin' down off our thrones
If only we, from the moment we are born
Could let it be, just let it free
Free roses from her thorns
Findin' out way back home
Can't be too hard only if we knew
Tryin' to make it home
Got to be there inside of you
Findin' out way back home
We're given life in strange lands
Tryin' to make it home
Travellin' souls changin' changin' hands
If only you knew for sure
How beautiful you could be, how pure
Like I do...
Findin' out way back home
Can't be too hard only if we knew
Tryin' to make it home
Got to be there inside of you
Findin' out way back home
We're given life in strange lands
Tryin' to make it home
Travellin' souls changin' changin' hands
Findin' out way
Findin' out way
Findin' out way back home
I need you and you need me
Also I need to be free
Free as the word free can mean
To stand secure outside this dream
Starstruck moonman looks so blind
You're still a slave within your mind
And all this time you have not guessed
Where you are bound
Which way you're heading
How you can stop feeling confused
Follow the star that is moving so slowly
Flow in its river of light and you'll see
That you have found
What you've been searching
TO LOVE! TO SHINE!
We all need to shine on to see
How far we´ve come on our journey
How far yet to go searchin´ for our star
Deep in the night I pray in my heart
For that special light
To shower me with love
To shower me with power
To shine from above
I gotta get to the Edge of Soul
To carry on what I believed
In from the very start
I gotta get to the Edge of Soul
To carry on deep in my heart
TO LOVE! TO SHINE!
TO LOVE! TO SHINE!
Come strip down and face it, your all
´Bout time you broke down your wall
Free your mid, a brand new world
Waits for you, you´ll find
Nobody can just do it for you
It´s time that you knew
It´s up to you to love
It´s up to you to shine
The light true´n blue
*You gotta get to the Edge of Soul
To carry on what you believe
In from the very start
**You gotta get to the Edge of Soul
To carry on deep in your heart
*REPEAT 3 TIMES
**REPEAT
TO LOVE! TO SHINE!
