Steve Lamacq (born 16 October 1965), sometimes known by his nicknames Lammo (given to him by John Peel) or "The Cat" (due to his ability as a goalkeeper) is an English disc jockey, currently working with the BBC radio stations BBC Radio 6 Music and BBC Radio 2.

He was born in Basingstoke, Hampshire. His family soon moved to Essex and he grew up in the Halstead area in a village called Colne Engaine. Lamacq's career in journalism began as a junior reporter at the West Essex Gazette, after studying Journalism at Harlow College, Essex. In similar fashion to other music journalists who started fanzines during their teenage years, Lamacq started one called A Pack of Lies.

It was during his time at NME that he began DJing on XFM, when it was still a pirate radio station. He formed a record label in 1992 with Alan James and Tony Smith, called Deceptive Records. The majority of the label's releases shared a punk-pop sensibility, with Elastica being their most successful signing, before the label eventually folded in 2001.

Tom Robinson (born 1 June 1950) is an English singer-songwriter, bassist and radio presenter, better known for the hits "Glad to Be Gay", "2-4-6-8 Motorway", and "Don't Take No for an Answer", with his Tom Robinson Band. He later peaked at #6 in the UK Singles Chart with his solo single "War Baby".

Tom Robinson was born into a middle-class family in Cambridge on 1 June 1950. He attended Friends School Saffron Walden, a co-ed privately funded Quaker school, between 1961 and 1967. Robinson has two brothers and a sister: Matthew (former executive producer of BBC One's EastEnders and Byker Grove, currently running Khmer Mekong Films in Cambodia), George and Sophy.

At the age of 13, Robinson realised that he was a homosexual when he fell in love with another boy at school. At that time, male homosexual activity was still a crime in England, punishable by prison. Wracked with shame and self-hatred, he had a nervous breakdown and attempted suicide at 16. A head teacher got him transferred to Finchden Manor, a therapeutic community for disturbed teenagers in Kent, where he spent his following six years. At Finchden Manor, Robinson was inspired by John Peel's The Perfumed Garden on pirate Radio London, and by a visit from Alexis Korner. The legendary bluesman and broadcaster transfixed a roomful of people with nothing but his voice and an acoustic guitar. The whole direction of Robinson's life and career became suddenly clear to him.

Justine Elinor Frischmann (born 16 September 1969) is an English singer and guitarist, best known for being the lead singer of the now defunct band Elastica. In the last few years, she has pursued a career as an abstract painter.

Justine Frischmann was born in Kensington, London to Wilem Frischmann, a Jewish-Hungarian Holocaust survivor who is chairman of the Pell Frischmann company of consulting engineers, and to a Jewish-Russian mother.

Frischmann grew up in Twickenham and attended St Paul's School, before studying Architecture at University College London. Initially, Frischmann had wanted to pursue art, but after her father expressed doubts, she attended Bartlett School of Architecture at University College London, where she spent six years studying architecture.

Frischmann began dating Brett Anderson in 1989, and together they founded the band Suede. She left the band in 1991.

Frischmann later founded and fronted her own band, Elastica, which was formed in 1992 and emerged in 1993 with the single "Stutter" with help from BBC Radio 1 DJ Steve Lamacq. They were first signed to his label, Deceptive Records, and later signed with Geffen Records. The band members were: Frischmann on vocals/guitar, Donna Matthews on guitar, Annie Holland on bass and Justin Welch on drums. In 1995, Elastica was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize for their album Elastica. The album became the fastest selling British debut in history, and went on to sell over a million copies worldwide. Elastica released a second album in 2000 which did not sell as well. In 2001 the band announced an amicable break up.

Paul Weller (born 25 May 1958) is an English singer-songwriter. Starting with the band The Jam (1972–1982), Weller then went on to branch out musically to a more soulful style with The Style Council (1983–1989). In 1991 he established himself as a successful solo artist, and continues to remain a respected singer, lyricist and guitarist.

Despite widespread critical recognition, Weller has remained a national rather than an international star, and much of his songwriting is rooted in English culture. He is also the principal figure of the 1970s and 80s mod revival and is often referred to as the Modfather.

Weller was born on 25 May 1958 in Sheerwater, near Woking, Surrey, England, to John and Ann Weller. He was initially known as John William Weller but later acquired the name Paul.

His father worked as a taxi driver and his mother was a part-time cleaner. In 1963 Weller started his education at Maybury County First School. His love of music started with The Beatles, then The Who and the Small Faces. By the time Weller was eleven and moving up to secondary school at Sheerwater County Secondary music was the biggest part of his life and he began playing the guitar.
