Kara no Kyōkai

Kara no Kyōkai (空の境界, lit. Boundary of Emptiness), subtitled and alternatively titled as The Garden of Sinners, and also known as Rakkyo (らっきょ), is a Japanese light novel series, authored by Kinoko Nasu and illustrated by Takashi Takeuchi. Originally released as a series of chapters released independently online or at Comiket between October 1998 and August 1999, the chapters were later republished by Kodansha into two volumes in 2004, and again in three volumes between 2007 and 2008. Ufotable produced a series of seven anime films based on the series between 2007 and 2009, and also produced an original video animation episode in 2011. A final anime film was produced and released in 2013. A manga adaptation illustrated by Sphere Tenku started serialization in September 2010 in Seikaisha's online magazine Saizensen.

Plot

Setting and themes

Set in Japan predominantly during the late 1990s, the series chronicles the life of Ryōgi clan heiress, Shiki Ryōgi, and her relationship with classmate Mikiya Kokutō. Both the light novel and the films are depicted in anachronical order with each chapter/film serving as part of one collective narrative. The series deals with the paranormal and tackles mature themes such as suicide, rape, patricide, incest and murder. Its lore and story draws inspiration from various religious philosophies and psychological concepts such as multiple personalities; the anima and animus; the nature of sin; life, death and reincarnation; and the paradoxical nature of the Taiji.

Chain Chronicle

Chain Chronicle (Japanese: チェインクロニクル, Hepburn: Chein Kuronikuru) is a Tower Defense Role Playing Game developed and published by Sega for all Smartphone platforms in Japan. It was released in Japan on July 26, 2013 for iOs, August 1, 2013 for Android and on July 16, 2014 for the PlayStation Vita. The game is licensed in Asia by SNDA in China, MobiMon for both Taiwan and Macau, Actoz Soft for South Korea and Gumi Asia for both Southeast Asia and North American release, but the game is scheduled to be closed down in February 29, 2016.

The series spawned an Original Video Animation series directed by Takeshi Mori, animated by Jūmonji and Sotsu. It was released on December 18, 2014. A Tv Anime Adaptation is also confirmed to be in development.

Gameplay

Chain Chronicle combines three Gameplay elements: Tower Defense, Traditional Role Playing and Trading Card in the form of Arcanas. The RPG Elements drive the entire story, allowing the player to make decisions, visit towns and participate in events. The map system shows the towns and areas that the player must visit by tapping on one town to another, however for the player to get to the next town, it must clear some enemies first. Battle in the game is similar to a traditional tower defense game, each player can command a team of four Arcanas, with two more as extras and a guest unit. Each Arcana is assigned to 5 classes: Swordsman, Knight, Cleric, Archer and Mage and each unit are weak to specific class.

Yuji Tanaka

Yūji Tanaka (田中 裕二, Tanaka Yūji, born January 10, 1965 in Nakano, Tokyo) is a Japanese comedian. He is best known as half of the owarai duo Bakusho Mondai along with Hikari Ota. He also played Mike in the Japanese dub of the Pixar movie Monsters, Inc. and Br'er Fox in the Japanese dub of the Disney movie Song of the South (special edition). Tanaka was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2010, but was successfully treated following surgery.

Magical girl

Magical girls (魔法少女, mahō shōjo, also known as mahou shoujo or majokko) is a subgenre of Japanese fantasy anime and manga which feature girls who use magic.

Genre history

Manga and anime historians regard the Princess Knight manga, released in 1953, as a prototype for the magical girl genre.Himitsu no Akko-chan, serialized in 1962 in Ribon, is regarded as the earliest magical girl manga. The Japanese dub versions of the American film Mary Poppins and TV series Bewitched became popular among Japanese girls in the 1960s and inspired Mitsuteru Yokoyama to create Sally the Witch, which was serialized in Ribon from 1966 to 1967. Sally was adapted into an anime in 1966 which is regarded by historians as the first magical girl anime. The Sailor Moon manga and anime are considered to have revitalized the genre in the 1990s and paved the way for later successful titles. Another notable example is Cardcaptor Sakura, with its manga and subsequent animated series being highly popular in and outside Japan.
