Abdel Halim's musical abilities first became apparent while he was in primary school, and his older brother Ismail Shabana was his first music teacher. At the age of 11 he joined the Arabic Music Institute in Cairo. He graduated from the Higher Theatrical Music Institute as an oboe player
Abdel Halim's collaboration with the giant of Egyptian music - composer Mohammed Abdel Wahab - gave birth to such famous masterpiece love songs as: Ahwak (أهواك) - "I love you", Nebtedi Minen el Hekaya (نبتدي منين الحكاية) - "If we were to tell the story", Fatet Ganbina (فاتت جنبنا) - "She came between us".
The beautiful Nightingale's voice was also completed by Egyptian poet Mohammed Hamza and his lyrics for masterpiece songs like Zay el Hawa (زي الهوا) - "It feels like love", Sawah (سواح) - "The Wanderer", Hawel Teftekerni ( حاول تفتكرني) - "Try to remember me", Aye Damiet Hozn (أي دمعة حزن لا) - "Any tear of sadness" or Mawood (موعود) - "Promised/ You're used to". Halim beat all odds from being a very poor orphan to becoming one of the most popular and loved singers in the world. His songs became so popular that arenas and stadiums could not handle the masses. Halim was admired and respected by millions in the Arab world and beyond. He would encourage young artists and actors to become successful. Most of Halim's hard work was all for the people. Halim was naturally charismatic. (although this finding is disputed).
Hafez is said to have fallen in love only once, in his youth, with a young woman whose parents refused to allow them to marry. After four years, her parents finally approved, but the girl died of a chronic disease before the wedding. Abdel Halim never recovered from her loss, and dedicated many of his saddest songs to her memory, including Fi Youm, Fi Shahr, Fi Sana (In a Day, a Month, a Year) and the poignant Qariat el-Fingan (The Fortune-teller).
Halim constantly gave his money to the poor. For example, at the start of the month, every month of the year, Halim would fill many envelopes with money. Then he would send these envelopes to many places around the Middle East. Halim frequently went to orphanages and hospitals all over the Middle East to donate money, teach music, and help the people there.
Abdel Halim established friendships with various presidents and kings, including Gamel Abdul Nasser of Egypt, King Hassan II of Morocco, and many more. He also had close friendships with most famous people in the Arab world at that time. He related well to people of all classes. Halim was a friend to many famous composers such as Mohammed Al-Mougy and Mohammed Abdul Wahab, as well as friends with many middle class people such as over 70 families in Lebanon.
He is buried in Al Rifa'i Mosque in Cairo.
His most famous songs include Ahwak ("I love you"), Khosara ("What a loss"), Gana El Hawa ("Love came to us"), Sawah ("Wanderer"), Zay el Hawa ("It feels like love"), Mawood ("Promised") and El Massih ("The Christ"), among the over 300 songs that he recorded. His last, and perhaps most famous song, Qariat el-Fingan ("The fortune-teller"), featured lyrics by Nizar Qabbani and music by Mohammed Al-Mougy. Even now, Many people still condiser this song to be the greatest arab song. He starred in sixteen films, including "Dalilah", which was the Middle East's first color motion picture.
Along with Mohammed Abdel Wahab and Magdi el-Amroussi, Abdel Halim was one of the main founders of the Egyptian recording company Soutelphan, which is now owned by Alam El Phan Co. (Mohsen Gaber). The company was founded in 1961.
A feature film about his life, "", was released in 2006, starring the late actor Ahmad Zaki in the title role, produced by the Good News Group.
In the same year a soap opera "Al-andaleeb hikayt shaab" was produced in Egypt. Shadi Shamel, starring as Abdel Halim, won a television show where many contestants from all over the Arab world competed for the lead role.
Abdel Halim is remembered as a irreplaceable, one of a kind and original entertainer and a extremely strong, persistent and wonderful person. In 2000, 23 years after Halim's death, Halim was voted and won to get the award of the greatest Arab artist of the millennium. He is widely considered to be the greatest male singer in Arab music history. His way of singing, his popularity of his songs and his behaviour, has made him a huge role model for almost every modern Arab singer.
The two great composers Mohammed Abdel Wahab and Mohammed Al-Mougy both said "Halim is the smartest person I ever knew". Without Halim a very large number of artists and actors would never have gotten successful. The great poet Nizar Qabbani said "If Halim would have lived longer he would have entirely change all of arabic music and improve world music and be a total wipe out". This movie is the longest running movie in Arab movie history.

In 1976, Sridevi got her first big break as heroine in K. Balachander's Parallel Cinema Moondru Mudichu, where she starred opposite rising stars, Rajinikanth and Kamal Hassan. She then followed with a succession of films with both Haasan and Rajnikanth. With the former, she was in movies such as Guru, Sankarlal, Sigappu Rojakkal, Thaayillamal Naan Illai, Meendum Kokila, Vazhvey Maayam, Varumayin Niram Sigappu, Neela Malargal, Moondram Pirai and 16 Vayathinile and with Rajnikanth, she appeared in movies such as Gayathri, Dharma Yuddham, Priya, Johnny, Ranuva Veeran, Pokkiri Raja, Thanikattu Raja, Adutha Varisu and Naan Adimai Illai.
At the same time, Sridevi made Telugu movies, a number of which were made by K. Raghavendra Rao. With N. T. Towards the tail end of her Telugu film career, Sridevi started acting in Hindi movies. Many of these initial movies starred Jeetendra and were remakes of her Telugu movies, mostly directed by K. Raghavendra Rao and K. Bappaiah. In 1978, she starred in her first Hindi film, Solva Saawan. In her second movie, Himmatwala, she played alongside Jeetendra. The film went on to be a blocbuster and established Sridevi as a star in Bollywood. The Jeetendra Sridevi pair also appeared in more hits including Tohfa, Mawaali and Justice Chaudhury. In 1983, she starred opposite Kamal Hasan in the drama Sadma, remade from the Tamil hit Moondram Pirai starring the same lead actors. Her performance as an amnesiac patient won much critical acclaim and earned Sridevi her first Filmfare nomination for Best Actress.
Her performances in the '80s included Justice Chowdhary, Jaani Dost, Mawaali, Maqsad, Tohfa, Karma, Aakhree Raasta, Jaanbaaz, Ghar Sansar, Nagina, Mr India, Suhagan and Aulad. With Nagina she became the most successful actress of her time. Shekhar Kapur's Mr India became an all-time hit and earned her names like Miss Hawa Hawai. Sridevi also imitated the legendary Charlie Chaplin in a famous sequence in the film. Her rain dance in Mr India is often cited as the most erotic dance number of Bollywood. In 1988's Chaalbaaz, she played a double role as twin sisters which won her the first Hindi Filmfare Best Actress Award. The same year, Sridevi also received a nomination for Yash Chopra's blocbuster hit Chandni. The songs and dances of the film became a rage while Sridevi's white costumes started a trend called the Chandni Look in North India. Chopra again directed her in 1991's Lamhe, where she plays a double-role act as mother and daughter. Often called a modern classic, Lamhe won her a second Hindi Filmfare Best Actress Award.
Right after, Sridevi starred opposite Amitabh Bachchan in 1992's Khuda Gawah, where she had a double role as a pining Afghan wife getting her another Filmfare nomination. The Telugu film Kshana Kshanam was released in the same year and afforded her another Filmfare Best Actress Award and a Nandi Award for Best Actress. These nominations were followed by another performance as an innocent victim trapped in a Hong Kong prison in Mahesh Bhatt's Gumrah and a negative role in Laadla. For her performance in the 1997 drama Judaai, Sridevi earned her eighth Filmfare nomination.
Sridevi is constantly referred as the Female Amitabh and the First Female Superstar of Bollywood by the Indian media. She is ofen described as the only actress to have stayed on top for more than ten years and one of the highest paid actresses ever of Hindi Cinema.

Jari Pekka Kurri (born May 18, 1960) is a retired Finnish professional ice hockey right winger. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2001. He is currently the general manager of Team Finland.
During his tenure in Edmonton, he was nicknamed the "Finnish Flash" (a title since usurped by Teemu Selänne). Kurri was "by far our most complete player," according to Oilers' director of personnel Barry Fraser. Although Kurri never won the Selke Trophy, he was regarded as one of the best defensive forwards in the NHL. Alongside with Kurri, Esa Tikkanen and Gretzky, Edmonton had future hall-of-famers Paul Coffey, Grant Fuhr, Glenn Anderson and Mark Messier. The team won four Stanley Cups during Gretzky's tenure. In 1988, however, the team would be dismantled when Gretzky was traded, along with team enforcer Marty McSorley, to the Los Angeles Kings. Following Gretzky's trade to Los Angeles in 1988, Kurri recorded 195 points in 154 games, leading the Oilers to their fifth and, to date, final Stanley Cup in 1990.
Kurri won five Stanley Cups, all with Edmonton (1984, 1985, 1987, 1988, and 1990). In 1984–85 he had 135 points and scored 50 goals in his first 50 games, however his 50th game was the Oilers' 53rd game so it does not count as an official 50 goals in 50 games. A year later, he led the league in goals with 68. In 1984–85 Kurri set a record for goals by a right winger when he scored 71. The record lasted for five years until broken by Brett Hull when he scored 72 goals in 1989–90 (Hull's 86 goals in 1990–91 is the current record). Kurri also scored the Stanley Cup winning goal in game seven against the Philadelphia Flyers in 1987.
Kurri's 19 goals in the 1985 post-season (18 games played) tied an NHL record set by the Philadelphia Flyers' Reggie Leach in the 1976 playoffs (16 games played). Those 19 goals included four hat tricks, a still-standing record of most three (or more goal) games in a playoff season. Kurri scored three of the hat tricks against the Blackhawks in the conference finals, also a feat that no player has ever equaled. He remains the only Finnish player to score 5 goals in a single game, achieving the feat on November 19, 1983.
Kurri's best season for the Kings was during the successful 1992–93 NHL season when Kurri posted 27 goals and 60 assists in 82 games.
Jari Kurri also had a lengthy international career for the Finnish national team. Kurri debuted during 1980 Winter Olympics when Finland played in the Olympic ice hockey tournament. Kurri scored two goals and an assist in his international debut.
Since NHL players were unable to participate in the Winter Olympics and World Championships, Kurri's national team appearances were limited after he started his NHL career. Kurri was part of Finnish national team during 1981 Canada Cup. Finland lost four games and had a 4–4 tie with the United States. Kurri had a disappointing performance, with only one assist in five games.
After the Oilers were eliminated in the 1982 NHL playoffs, Kurri was able to join the Finnish national team in 1982 World Championships. The tournament was held in Finland. Kurri formed Finland's top line along with SM-liiga players Reijo Leppänen of TPS and Kari Jalonen of Kärpät. The lineup led the Finnish team in points and played well during the tournament but Finland was not able to advance to the medal round.
Kurri was part of the Finnish team at the 1987 Canada Cup and the 1989 World Championships, but Finland was unable to gain success on those tournaments, ranking 6th of 6 and 5th of 8, in those respective tournaments.
In 1991, Kurri represented Finland at the 1991 World Championships held again in Finland. Finland ranked 5th of 8 teams. Later that year, at the 1991 Canada Cup, Finland lost 3–7 to the United States in the semi-finals.
At the 1994 World Championships, Kurri managed to get his first international medal when Finland earned silver after losing 1–2 in a shootout against Canada.
At the 1998 Winter Olympics, Jari Kurri faced Gretzky on ice for the last time, when Finland and Canada played for the Olympic bronze medal in Nagano. Finland was the underdog against Canada, but Finland won the game 3–2. Kurri scored the first goal of the game, which turned out to be his last goal for the Finnish national team.
Kurri is the godfather of Sami Lepisto of the Phoenix Coyotes.
