Astronomy is a natural science that deals with the study of celestial objects (such as stars, planets, comets, nebulae, star clusters and galaxies) and phenomena that originate outside the atmosphere of Earth (such as cosmic background radiation). It is concerned with the evolution, physics, chemistry, meteorology, and motion of celestial objects, as well as the formation and development of the universe.
Astronomy is one of the oldest sciences. Prehistoric cultures left behind astronomical artifacts such as the Egyptian monuments, Nubian monuments and Stonehenge, and early civilizations such as the Babylonians, Greeks, Chinese, Indians, Iranians and Maya performed methodical observations of the night sky. However, the invention of the telescope was required before astronomy was able to develop into a modern science. Historically, astronomy has included disciplines as diverse as astrometry, celestial navigation, observational astronomy, the making of calendars, and astrology, but professional astronomy is nowadays often considered to be synonymous with astrophysics.

He is best known as the host of the Disney/PBS children's science show Bill Nye the Science Guy (1993–1998) and for his many subsequent appearances in popular media as a science educator.
William Sanford Nye was born in Washington, D.C., the son of Jacqueline (née Jenkins; c. 1920–2000), a codebreaker during World War II, and Edwin Darby "Ned" Nye (died 1997), also a World War II veteran whose experience in a Japanese prisoner of war camp led him to become a sundial enthusiast. Nye is a fourth-generation Washington, D.C. resident on his father's side of the family. After attending Lafayette Elementary and Alice Deal Junior High in the city, he was accepted to the private Sidwell Friends School on a partial scholarship, graduating in 1973. He studied mechanical engineering at Cornell University, where one of his professors was Carl Sagan, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1977. He was awarded an honorary doctorate by The Johns Hopkins University in May 2008. In May 2011, Nye was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science degree from Willamette University where he was the keynote speaker for that year's commencement exercises.

Astronomy & Science Journalism & JWST - Part 1 -Surely, you Jest.
All I know is that this falling star will die
For a moment light the sky and lead me home
I don't know why this task has been so hard
We've spent out time apart but not alone
This is what I have been given I hope that you can
I hope that you can understand there are reasons beyond ours
The creator holds the stars up in the sky
But you are by far bright and shining star in the sky tonight
This is what I have been given the hardest part is living
With leaving you alone
This is what I have been given the hardest part is living
With leaving you alone
Alone alone, we're not alone
Alone alone, we're not alone
Just like all the rest of them I can't bring you down
You're a million miles from here
But you are by far the brightest shining star in the sky tonight
This is what I have been given the hardest part is living
Clock strikes twelve and moondrops burst
Out at you from their hiding place
Like acid and oil on a madman's face
His reason tends to fly away
Like lesser birds on the four winds
Like silver scrapes in May
And now the sand's become a crust
Most of you have gone away
Come Susie dear, let's take a walk
Just out there upon the beach
I know you'll soon be married
And you'll want to know where winds come from
Well it's never said at all
On the map that Carrie reads
Behind the clock back there you know
At the Four Winds Bar
Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!
Four winds at the Four Winds Bar
Two doors locked and windows barred
One door to let to take you in
The other one just mirrors it
Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!
Hellish glare and inference
The other one's a duplicate
The Queenly flux, eternal light
Or the light that never warms
Yes the light that never, never warms
Or the light that never
Never warms
Never warms
Never warms
The clock strikes twelve and moondrops burst
Out at you from their hiding place
Miss Carrie nurse and Susie dear
Would find themselves at Four Winds Bar
It's the nexus of the crisis
And the origin of storms
Just the place to hopelessly
Encounter time and then came me
Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!
Call me Desdinova
Eternal light
These gravely digs of mine
Will surely prove a sight
And don't forget my dog
Fixed and consequent
Astronomy...a star
The middle lane has trapped my car
in red-light claustrophobia.
I slip the shackles, cut the rope ---
stand naked with a telescope
as the cat walks alone
under a big sky.
Against the dark so thin and white ---
gonna be a big sky night.
Miss Galileo, come with me
and view the new Astronomy.
Black hole dressing on salad plate ---
quasar at the kissing gate.
Now the cat, he walks alone
under a big sky.
Umbrella dome pin-pricked in lights ---
gonna be a big sky night.
My spectacles, my white lab coat ---
my coffee, thermos and my notes.
I pat my pockets. I got the keys
to the secrets of the observatory.
And closing the door,
I feel a new dawn
as the darker slides align ---
you to yours and me to mine.
And now you stand, assisting me ---
I can touch what I can see, see, see.
I look in wonder, I feel no shame ---
see the consequences of the game.
Expand the universe.
Head for the Big Bang.
Reach for my switch and shout ---
gonna turn the big sky out.
There's got to be astronomy.
I'm getting closer
To a higher ground
My destination
Lies beyond the sun
Not afraid of failure
to crash and burn
If you're not living
you will never learn
Constellations far
Revealing my destiny
Astronomy
There among the stars
Like a higher conscience
living in my mind
You're always with me
Till the end of time
It is there before me
Undisguised
No hesitation:
I'm on the rise
Constellations far
Revealing my agony
Astronomy
There among the stars
"A life without strife is a moonless night"
Astronomy
"Ascend to sky of endless light"
Astronomy

Let me paint a picture just for you
It's an honest scene with an honest man like me
Let me gloss it over with some truth
If honesty was my policy, I'd fail at this quite
miserably
Cause everything I sing I sing for you
When the moon stops shining I guess we can give this a
rest
When the moon stops shining I guess we can give this a
rest
But when the sun comes out in your town, could you
stick around?
I'm not impressed by this and I might be the only one
who could ever leave you
But you've given me reason to leave
I should lay this jacket down for you
Pretend the buttons are a bridge you can climb on to
the other side
I'm pretty sure that's what guys are supposed to do
But if I could , I 'd do some good and part that mud
like moses would
It's just too bad I think I'll wear my jacket tonight
When the moon stops shining I guess we can give this a
rest
When the moon stops shining I guess we can give this a
rest
But when the sun comes out in your town, could you
stick around?
I'm not impressed by this and I might be the only one
who could ever leave you
But you've given me reason to leave
I caught a glimpse of hope staring at constellations
from my backyard
But I guess you were using me just to study the stars
Where did the time go ?
Where did my mind go ?
Where did my money go ? I thought you knew (x 2)
I spent it all on you
I'm not impressed by this and I might be the only one
who could ever leave you
But you've given me reason to leave
I caught a glimpse of hope staring at constellations
from my backyard
But I guess you were using me just to study the stars
