The Tunis University is a university located in Tunis, Tunisia.

The Tunis University has been watchful, for sixteen years, for the best use of the human and material means granted to higher education and scientific research institutions it supervises to improve their opening on the social, cultural and economic environments.

With the aim of a better rationalization of competence and insertion of the graduates in the professional life, the University diversified the studies of master's degree and doctorate and multiplied the professional master’s degrees. That allowed it to respond for the needs of various sectors of the economy and to be for the avant-garde of scientific and technological evolutions.

The University of Tunis provides about sixty specialties distributed between fifteen higher education and scientific research institutions. It counts about 32,000 students supervised by more than 1,300 tutors.

The University of Tunis is member of the Mediterranean University Union (UNIMED).

Tunis (Arabic: تونس‎ Tūnis) is the capital of both the Tunisian Republic and the Tunis Governorate. It is Tunisia's largest city, with a population of 728,453 as of 2004; the greater metropolitan area holds some 2,412,500 inhabitants.

Situated on a large Mediterranean Sea gulf (the Gulf of Tunis), behind the Lake of Tunis and the port of La Goulette (Halq al Wadi), the city extends along the coastal plain and the hills that surround it. At the centre of more modern development (from the colonial era and later) lies the old medina. Beyond this district lie the suburbs of Carthage, La Marsa, and Sidi Bou Said.

The medina is found at the centre of the city: a dense agglomeration of alleys and covered passages, full of intense scents and colours, boisterous and active trade, and a surfeit of goods on offer ranging from leather to plastic, tin to the finest filigree, tourist souvenirs to the works of tiny crafts shops.

Just through the Sea Gate (also known as the Bab el Bahr and the Porte de France) begins the modern city, or Ville Nouvelle, transversed by the grand Avenue Habib Bourguiba (often referred to by popular press and travel guides as "the Tunisian Champs-Élysées"), where the colonial-era buildings provide a clear contrast to smaller, older structures. As the capital city of the country, Tunis is the focus of Tunisian political and administrative life; it is also the centre of the country's commercial activity. The expansion of the Tunisian economy in recent decades is reflected in the booming development of the outer city where one can see clearly the social challenges brought about by rapid modernization in Tunisia.

Slim Amamou (Arabic: سليم عمامو‎) (born in 1977) is a Tunisian blogger and the former Secretary of State for Sport and Youth (Arabic: كاتب دولة للشباب والرياضة‎, French: Secrétaire d'État à la Jeunesse et aux Sports), deputy to the Minister for Youth and Sports. He resigned on the week of May 25, 2011 in protest of the transitional government's block of several websites. A known blogger, he is also a former Pirate Party activist.

Graduated from the University of Sousse, he is an influential blogger and author of ReadWriteWeb France. He protested against censorship in Tunisia and organized a demonstration on 22 May 2010.

He was arrested during the protests that led to the Jasmine Revolution. After his release, on 17 January 2011 he was appointed Secretary of State for Sport and Youth in the new Tunisian government. On the week of May 25, he resigned from his post in protest of the transitional government's censorship of several websites at the request of the army.

He supports the legalisation of cannabis in Tunisia. He is an advocate for network neutrality and opposes internet censorship.
