FASTER THAN A SPEEDING BULLET! MORE POWERFUL THAN A LOCOMOTIVE! It’s super-banjoist, James Rogers whose precision and dynamics are awesome. The same could be said, however of the other amazing pickers in this invitational Wade Morse Jam on the outskirts of Sanford, Florida, a few minutes North of Orlando. Among the excellent musicians in this Jam are three exceptional flat-pick guitarists, (L to R) Bill Barnard (plaid shirt), young James Vickers (blond guitar), and James Hudson (green shirt). These are such skilled pickers, I had hoped beyond hope that the video captured the detail of their brilliant artistry. You will see I missed the mark, for which I am so sorry. I owe these gentlemen an apology. I didn’t want to disturb the other pickers. Consequently, I failed to move in close enough to pick up the audio of their guitars. I hope they will grant me a second chance soon. Despite the guitar audio faux pas and dropped camera on Nancy Pierce’s tune (as if that weren’t enough), there were many pluses about this Jam. In addition to the great pickers invited by our gracious hosts, Wade and Lavergne Morse, the barbecue and all the “fixins” were magnificent as was the venue, among the Florida shady oaks. While I do not have a complete song list, and I would be hard-pressed to name a favorite, a strongly draw your attention to Stephanie Murphy’s breathtaking cover of “Wayfaring Stranger” 33:13 and the instrumental, “The World is Waiting for the Sunrise” (Ernest Seitz, ca. 1921) 49:15.
