Poetry (from the Greek poiesis — ποίησις — with a broad meaning of a "making", seen also in such terms as "hemopoiesis"; more narrowly, the making of poetry) is a form of literary art which uses the aesthetic qualities of language to evoke meanings in addition to, or in place of, the prosaic ostensible meaning.
Poetry has a long history, dating back to the Sumerian Epic of Gilgamesh. Early poems evolved from folk songs such as the Chinese Shijing, or from a need to retell oral epics, as with the Sanskrit Vedas, Zoroastrian Gathas, and the Homeric epics, the Iliad and the Odyssey. Ancient attempts to define poetry, such as Aristotle's Poetics, focused on the uses of speech in rhetoric, drama, song and comedy. Later attempts concentrated on features such as repetition, verse form and rhyme, and emphasized the aesthetics which distinguish poetry from more objectively-informative, prosaic forms of writing. From the mid-20th century, poetry has sometimes been more generally regarded as a fundamental creative act employing language.

Emily Elizabeth Dickinson (December 10, 1830 – May 15, 1886) was an American poet. Born in Amherst, Massachusetts, to a successful family with strong community ties, she lived a mostly introverted and reclusive life. After she studied at the Amherst Academy for seven years in her youth, she spent a short time at Mount Holyoke Female Seminary before returning to her family's house in Amherst. Thought of as an eccentric by the locals, she became known for her penchant for white clothing and her reluctance to greet guests or, later in life, even leave her room. Most of her friendships were therefore carried out by correspondence.
Although Dickinson was a prolific private poet, fewer than a dozen of her nearly eighteen hundred poems were published during her lifetime. The work that was published during her lifetime was usually altered significantly by the publishers to fit the conventional poetic rules of the time. Dickinson's poems are unique for the era in which she wrote; they contain short lines, typically lack titles, and often use slant rhyme as well as unconventional capitalization and punctuation. Many of her poems deal with themes of death and immortality, two recurring topics in letters to her friends.

No wonder why the hump inside the joint is feeling ghettho
A medal or award should be giving to these heros for their
Empasis of revealing and bringing forth the feeling
I'm realing, poetic I say, a great proportion,
I hold my little nuances correct for this distortion.

Roy makes the tune what it is today.
Rhythmically, we in the slake of jeans, know what I mean?
Its only right that me and Mr Right we here from Queens
The overtone of funk is being driven by this music
Its the benevolence of Roy issued me this juris-provence
This beat, or rhymes hooded in the epitome
Im just a humble little germ, just a hipper version
Poetic I mean truly indeed her every steed
Just sprinkles with the essense of life to form my breed
Think about sweety while we give this to the needy

Brothers lost, my head is running veins
Where to go, and where is God
Sometimes I get real mad, but I understand
I dont beat myself up too much about it
I give us tears, does he mourn for it?
Or joy in return? Those tears bring joy
That is what perplexes, make the sweetness last
Coz we're mourning for the joy, their hard to find
Be happy where you can, no sadness necessary,
No, no, it seems sometimes, you never get in bed
but its ok, its fair, yeah, ooooh
Nowhere to look, you got me mysteries
Use the stars as a guide, trying not to hide
The love inside, you know, you if you get... you get
I feel, I'm not ready yet, but I meet myself halfway
And I'll start a day, creating what i'm. living
Living for today, coz I'm ok, its ok

Saw you just the other day
Standing in your special way
Looking so good
I could just swallow you whole
But you are so far away
Out of reach
Even when I stand right next to you
Now I know there are words I could say
To make you mine
So why play these silly games
When you could just tell me
Tell me
Because..
I want to write poetry
With my tongue on your skin
I want to write poetry
Something half as beautiful as you
I want to write poetry
Now you turn to me and smile
Wave and say goodbye
As if you've no idea whats on my mind
Don't go
Don't go
If you could just see
What's in my heart and mind
You'd never walk away
You'd come closer
Come closer
Because..
I want to write poetry
With my tongue on your skin
I want to write poetry
Something half as beautiful as you
I want to write poetry
I want to write poetry
To stand the test of time
To make you mine
To haunt your mind
To make you blind
To anyone else but me
To help you find
What you've been searching for
He said, It's like the grass that grows between the cracks of ghetto streets, relentless inspite of the neverlasting, I
said baby dam you got lyrics, make it like poetry!
The thugged out pimped out imagines release them save those roles for the young souls who believe them I want the
undefineable, indescribleable and more, but so clear when you walk through that door, I said I want it hard, mystical,
tender and correct without expectations with all of that met. Take me around the world, but please come direct, speak to
me, speak to my heart
Make it like poetry, make it like poetry, poetry, poetry, give your flow slow to me give all night
Make it like poetry, make it like poetry, poetry, poetry everything wrong you see make alright, make it like
Kisses of raindrops wash away the pain, each stroke is a journey on a long train to a new destination, new meditation in
love relization of possibilities he says to me I've given hard, mystical, tender and correct, without expectations yet all
of them met, take me around the world, but please come direct speak to me, speak to my heart.
Make it like
To be or not to be won't be any question
Make it like
The sling of arrows of outrageous love are gone
Make it like
A dream I can touch, a dream I can feel.
Make it like
Only you, only you can take me there
Make it like
Poetry, Poetry, Poetry
Some things I've done make my conscience burn
My very spine shudder and squirm
I only hope that I've learned from my sin
I heard a voice when I was thirteen
Got baptized, washed up clean
But the world has a way
If you know what I mean
To scuff you up again and again
I can't explain a blessed thing
Not a falling star, or a feathered wing
Or how a man in chains
Has the strength to sing?
Just one thing is clear to me
There's always more than what appears to be
When the light's just right
I swear I see, yeah man it's poetry
But somebody made every thing
From the soul, inside out to saturn's rings
How my baby smiles and how Ray Charles sings
Of course we were created
The clouds make rain, the ocean makes sand
The earth breathes fire, and lava makes land
Now that took a mighty hand
And a wild imagination
I can't explain a blessed thing
Not a falling star, or a feathered wing
Or how a man in chains
Has the strength to sing, yeah fly away
Just one thing is clear to me
There's always more than what appears to be
And when the light's just right
I swear I see, yeah oh Lord poetry
The dreams I dreamed came back ten-fold
The friends I have to the woman I hold
I look down, I'm on streets of gold
After all the mud along the way
But sometimes the big old mystery
Just leans right in on me
Says that I'm home and I am free
And I'll take that any day, any day
I can't explain a blessed thing
Not a falling star, or a feathered wing
Or how a man in chains
Has the strength to sing, like a bird
Just one thing is clear to me
There's always more than what appears to be
And when the light's just right
I swear I see, yeah
Just one thing is clear to me
There's always more than what appears to be
And when the light's just right
When I stand in a crowded room
I feel alone like nobody's there
And when you talk cold to me
I can see your breath in the air
It's taking it's toll on me
In the bathroom taking showers
So you don't see me cry
Baby it's such a crime
I try to feel confident
I'm bitter - You're not making sense
I missed you 'til you almost took my sanity
I started a new verse like
Poetry, you're hiding behind the words you speak
Changing the words of the story
You say you don't love me then say that you love me
I'm fighting
You're hiding behind the words you're speaking
You're changing the words, I'm lost in the verse
You say you don't love me then say that you love me
Why are you hiding?
When I give you gratitude
You act like you don't hear me speak
When I tell you what you do to me
You don't even hear the truth
What are you trying to prove; I stare out of the window for hours
Cause you don't listen to me
You won't even look in my eyes
I try to feel confident
I'm bitter - You're not making sense
I missed you 'til you almost took my sanity
I started a new verse like
Poetry, you're hiding behind the words you speak
Changing the words of the story
You say you don't love me then say that you love me
I'm fighting
You're hiding behind the words you're speaking
You're changing the words, I'm lost in the verse
You say you don't love me then say that you love me
Why are you hiding?
Don't believe what you're saying
I read your face and I'm blanking
Cause I don't know what's in front of my eyes
I try to feel confident
I try to feel confident
I'm bitter - You're not making sense
I missed you 'til you almost took my sanity
Oh.. oh.. oh.. oh...
Oh.. oh.. oh.. oh...
Oh.. oh.. oh.. oh...
I'm starting a new verse like
Poetry, you're hiding behind the words you speak
Changing the words of the story
You say you don't love me then say that you love me
I'm fighting
Poetry, you're hiding behind the words you speak
Changing the words of the story
You say you don't love me then say that you love me
I'm fighting
Poetry, you're hiding behind the words you speak
Changing the words of the story
You say you don't love me then say that you love me
I'm fighting
You're hiding behind the words you're speaking
You're changing the words, I'm lost in the verse
You say you don't love me then say that you love me
Why are you hiding?
Oh.. oh.. oh.. oh...
Oh.. oh.. oh.. oh...
Oh.. oh.. oh.. oh...
Oh.. oh.. oh.. oh...
Oh.. oh.. oh.. oh...
Verse One: KRS-One
Well now you're forced to listen to the teacher and the lesson
Class is in session so you can stop guessin
If this is a tape or a written down memo
See I am a professional, this is not a demo
In fact call it a lecture, a visual picture
Sort of a poetic and rhythm-like mixture
Listen, I'm not dissin but there's somethin that you're missin
Maybe you should touch reality, stop wishin
For beats with plenty bass and lyrics said in haste
If this meaning doesn't manifest put it to rest
I am a poet, you try to show it, yet blow it
It takes concentration for fresh communication
Observation, that is to see without speaking
Take off your coat, take notes, I am teachin
a class, or rather school, cause you need schooling
I am not a king or queen, I'm not ruling
This is an introduction to poetry
A small dedication to those that might know of me
They might know of you and maybe your gang
But one thing's for sure, neither one of y'all can hang
Cause yo I'm like a arrow, and Scott is the crossbow
Say something now ... thought so
You seem to be the type that only understand
The annihilation and destruction of the next man
That's not poetry, that is insanity
It's simply fantasy far from reality
Poetry is the language of imagination
Poetry is a form of positive creation
Difficult, isn't it? The point? You're missin it
Your face is in front of my hand so I'm dissin it
Verse Two: KRS-One
Scott LaRock is innovating, decorating hip-hop
The beat may drop but not like all the others
They just cover while I just smother
Every single stupid mutha -- wait wait brotha
KRS-One will have to show another
MC or self-proclaimed king or queen
Or gang or crew or solo or team
That I mean
Business
So tell me what is this?
See I come from the Bronx so just kiss this
Boogie Down Productions is somewhat an experiment
The antidote for sucka MC's and they're fearin it
It's self-explanatory, no one's writin for me
The poetry I'm rattlin is really not for battlin
But if you want I will simply change the program
So when I'm done you will simply say "damn"
So this conversation is somewhat hypothetical
Boogie Down Productions attempts to prove somethin
I say hypothetical because it's only theory
My theory, so take a minute now to hear me
Verse Three: KRS-One
So what's your problem?
It seems you want to be KRS-Two
From my point of view, backtrack, stop the attack
Cos KRS-One means simply one KRS
That's it, that's all, solo, single, no more, no less
I've built up my credential financially and mental
Anytime I rhyme I request the instrumental
I speak clearly and that's merely
Or should I say a mere, help to my career
I'm really not into fashion or craze
Just the one who pays and how soon I get a raise
You're probably in a daze, acting out of sympathy
Wrote a couple of rhymes and think that you can get with me
But what a pity, I'm rockin New York City
And everywhere else, you put the jams on the shelf
You as an amateur is outspoken
I'm looking at your face, you seem to be hopin
That I might stutter, stop, or just mess up
But everything's live that's why I don't dress up
"Blastmaster KRS" a synonym for "fresh"
I'm the teacher of the class, I do not pass no test
Got DJ Scott LaRock by my side, not in back of me
Cos we make up the Boogie Down Productions crew faculty
Get it right, or train yourself not to bite
Cos when you bite you have bitten, when I hear it, that's it
I do not contemplate a battle cause it really ain't worth it
I'd rather point a pistol at your head and try to burst it
I'm teaching poetry
I'm teaching poetry
Scott LaRock
I've got a bone to pick with you
I've got a bone to pick with you
Why do you do these things that you do
I've got a bonnet with a bee inside
I've got a bonnet with a bee inside
Why do you run when you know that you can't hide
You have no money and you have no respect
In spite of everything your life is a wreck
And you have nothing but our heart to dissect
It's all about works with you
It's all about works with you
It's all about works with you
Something deep within you has been crying out for release
How can you continue to contain this haunting beast
Something deep within you has been crying out for release
How can you continue to contain this haunting beast
Your poetry's setting this city aflame
It'll never go out it's a terrible shame
Oh you must believe me 'cause I ain't no liar
Iâ? ve fallen down with you
The burn and sting cuts through
Its all I want to do and not at all
Iâ? m constantly stuck behind your sinister mastermind
Stop begging me for my eyes and just become
A shadow Iâ? ve left behind and locked in with the blind
Iâ? m begging you to stop begging me
Everything feels like poetry when you want it to
Iâ? m playing the fool Iâ? d like to be when no oneâ? s listening
Iâ? m constantly stuck behind your sinister mastermind
Iâ? m begging you to stop begging me
Everything feels like poetry when you want it to
And Iâ? m happy with this constant misery
I like to be misunderstood
Everything feels like poetry when you want it to
Iâ? m playing the fool Iâ? d like to be when no oneâ? s listening
And Iâ? m happy with this constant misery
(verse one)
This aint the movies baby you cant fool me
Your words are empty and they dont move me no more
I wish it didnt have to be this way
no baby I wont chase you
but soon I will replace you oh no
I wish it didnt have to be this way
(chorus)
You aint no good to me
Your just my poetry for now
And its clear to see your just temporarily around
But still you keep on comin around
Playin the part flippin the script
Fakin your heart comin around playin the part
Flipin the script fakin your heart
(verse two)
Sometimes I think im crazy
Forever lovin you
I took my chances
And look what happened
Im the one to lose
Whats the point of this drama?
Its takin so much of me
Im better off with out you honest
you got the best of me
(chorus)
You aint no good to me
Your just my poetry for now
And its clear to see your just temporarily around
But still you keep on comin around
Playin the part flippin the script
Fakin your heart comin around playin the part
Flipin the script fakin your heart
(bridge)
Its a shame its a shame its a shame
You wont change you wont change you wont change you wont change.
Its a shame its a shame its a shame
You wont change you wont change you wont change you wont change.
(chorus)
You aint no good to me
Your just my poetry for now
And its clear to see your just temporarily around
But still you keep on comin around
Playin the part flippin the script
Fakin your heart comin around playin the part

All ya mans ever do is smoke blunts with you
Fuck a Willy Esco outfit, nigga, I'm about chips
Look at my crew we all got whips
[Verse 2]
Nasty Nas all ya life you praised me
Your daughter might be Jay Z's
Illmatic was real cause you was tryin' to portray me
Matter of fact, time for Sony to pay me
For "Life's a bitch, God forbid the bitch divorce me"
"Street Dreems", and every other rhyme you got off me
I shoulda kept the rhymes for me
Fuck it now the whole world know
Who coward ass Nas tryin to be
You was broke, Killa was buyin' ya weed
Ya Lex got repossessed, I had mines on the street
You shoulda kept it real wit Nature
Steve Stoute taught you how to deal wit paper
Kings lose crowns, and kingdoms fall
When ya queen moves foul, obviously she's
Jay Z's boo now, what should he do now?
[Verse 3]
Off the throne when the fours get blown
Lake can't save you, Lord is just fold
Big's last words was "You lost it homes"
You the reason Ill Will is in the coffin yo
When he got shot, you was too soft to roll
Talkin' 'bout you a brave Pac
Nah you a fake Pac
I get down and take blocks
You bend down and take cock
Cause Chris Lightys behind you, get it?
My niggas'll find you drippin
You give ya niggas nothing, the diamonds, the bitches
I got shot ain't no denying I did
But I was sendin' fire at niggas
What the fuck you talkin' 'bout bitch!!
Poetry
[Verse 4]
Check it, I had One Love for niggas, those days are over

My New York State Of Mind will outshine ya weak team
Take a trip down Memory Lane

If the world is yours nigga why you hide ya chain?
If ya girls is yours, I won't even go there
My niggas, respected, yours is labeled cowards
