Today we're going to focus on the challenge ex-offenders are facing. Todd Johnson talks with two young men struggling to beat the odds and get their lives back on track. Good day to you, Todd. Thank you, Richard, and you, too. With billions and billions of dollars spent on prisons each year and recidivism rates remaining high, critics say incarceration alone is just not working, so i took a look at a new york program giving those caught up in the criminal justice system a chance to change their lives, turn their lives around, by making college possible. Reporter: at just 21 years old Brandon Johnson 's life is already at a crossroads. his life changed from four years ago as a senior in high school. He was charged with gang assault and robbery, a crime he says he witnessed but had no involvement in. It doesn't matter who you are, where you come from, if you just happen to be at the wrong place and the wrong time. it can definitely happen to you. Reporter: after he graduated from high school , the felony schar charge cost him his job as an early child care worker. In December 2010 his conviction led other potential employers to follow suit. You have your resume and they look at your resume and they go, all right, and then they look at the background check and it's like that might be you in society. This is what you have

Suffer The Little Children: A Peek into the History of Eugenics and Child Abuse by the State - Pennsylvania Pennhurst. (Full Documentary) The ground-breaking 1968 NBC10 Expose on Pennhurst State School by Bill Baldini. Haunting Similarities to current horrors of CPS Shelters + Group Homes (abuse, money benefits contractors, children worse off). Once called the shame of the nation, Pennhurst was the epicenter of a civil and human rights movement that changed the way the world saw people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The atrocities of neglect at Pennhurst resulted in Supreme Court litigation that sounded the death knell for institutionalization worldwide. Pennhurst was the battleground in a monumental struggle to secure basic human rights for the last group of Americans to attain privileges assumed to be the natural freedoms of all persons. Pennhurst's historic and beautiful campus is, like Valley Forge and Independence Mall to the east, hallowed ground in the struggle for dignity and self-determination, a western anchor to a freedom corridor, that, though stretching but a few miles, reaches all the way around the world. Pennhurst Memorial and Preservation Alliance seeks to ensure that those achievements won at Pennhurst are neither lost nor forgotten. http://www.preservepennhurst.com/default.aspx?pg=6 PA & EUGENICS - In 1913, the legislature appointed a Commission for the Care of the Feeble-Minded which stated that the disabled were unfit for citizenship and posed a menace to the peace, and thus recommended a program of custodial care. The Commission desired to prevent the intermixing of the genes of those imprisoned w the general population. In the Biennial Report to the Legislature submitted by the Board of Trustees, Pennhurst's Chief Physician quoted Henry H. Goddard, a leading eugenicist:- "Every feeble-minded person is a potential criminal. The general public, although more convinced today than ever before that it is a good thing to segregate the idiot or the distinct imbecile, they have not as yet been convinced as to the proper treatment of the defective delinquent, which is the brighter and more dangerous individual." More on Eugenics in Pennsylvania - -- In 1857 the Supreme Court handed down the Dred Scott decision while it held session at Bedford Springs in Bedford, Pennsylvania. Dred Scott and his family walked into the Supreme Court as free people and walked out as slaves. Transferring authority from the parent to the state produced profound subservience and slavery into the entire culture. Millions of American families are now experiencing the very same fate as the Dred Scott family, as "family courts" and bureaucratic slave-makers are committing the very same atrocities in eugenics "kangaroo courts." http://bedfordsprings.blogspot.com/ -- Eugenics in America, Began in Bedford, Pennsylvania and Continues to Destroy through CPS Fraud, Abuse, False Accusations. http://robertscourt.blogspot.com/2009/03/eugenics-in-america-began-in-bedford.html --- Cases --- PENNHURST STATE SCHOOL V. HALDERMAN, 465 U. S. 89 (1984). The Court of Appeals affirmed, holding that the MH/MR Act required the State to adopt the "least restrictive environment" approach for the care of the mentally retarded, and rejecting petitioners' argument that the Eleventh Amendment barred a federal court from considering this pendent state law claim. The court reasoned that, since that Amendment did not bar a federal court from granting prospective injunctive relief against state officials on the basis of federal claims, citing Ex parte Young, 209 U. S. 123, the same result obtained with respect to a pendent state law claim. HELD: Eleventh Amendment prohibited the District Court from ordering state officials to conform their conduct to state law. Pp. 465 U. S. 97-124. (a) The principle of sovereign immunity is a constitutional limitation on the federal judicial power established in Art. III of the Constitution. The Eleventh Amendment bars a suit against state officials when the State is the real, substantial party in interest, regardless of whether the suit seeks damages or injunctive relief. The Court in Ex parte Young, supra, recognized an important exception to this general rule: a suit challenging the federal constitutionality of a state official's action is not one against the State. Pp. 465 U. S. 97-103. http://supreme.justia.com/us/465/89/ EX PARTE YOUNG, 209 U.S. 123 (1908), Whether a state statute is unconstitutional because the penalties for its violation are so enormous that persons affected thereby are prevented from resorting to the courts for the purpose of determining the validity of the statute, and are thereby denied the equal protection of the law, and their property rendered liable to be taken without due process of law, is a Federal question and gives the Circuit Court jurisdiction. http://supreme.justia.com/us/209/123/case.html
A search is underway for the man who killed a Pennsylvania state trooper and wounded a second in an ambush attack outside a state police barracks late Friday. Police have identified the suspect as 31-year-old Eric Matthew Frein of Canadensis, Pennsylvania. Frein is a survivalist who took part in Cold War and East European military enactments, said George Bivens, deputy commissioner of operations for the State Police, in a press conference on Wednesday outside the Blooming Grove barracks where the shootings occurred. “In his current frame of mind, Frein now appears to have assumed that role in real life,” Bivens said. “Based on our investigation, it is clear to us that Eric Frein has a longstanding grudge with law enforcement and government in general since 2006,” he said. Frein was identified after his Jeep Cherokee was found in a pond the woods three days after the shooting, two miles from the barracks, by a man walking his dog. Inside the vehicle, police found two spent .308 cartridges, camouflage face paint, a black hoodie, two rifle cases and information about foreign embassies. Frein is believed to be carrying an AK-47 and a .308 caliber rifle. According to Frein’s father, a retired U.S. Army major who taught his son how to fire a rifle, Frein “doesn’t miss.” ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoUSA, where we animate the most entertaining news from ‘MURRICA. Look at me look at me eating tripe now Look at you look at you this is life now it's fresh, more organic than fast food You could say it looks a lot more natural No this egg ain't hundred years old And no this cabbage ain't got no mold And I was hoping she would have a taste! she took one bite and just made a face (DAVID) Yeah, yeah, I said "Girl whatcha eat during weekdays" She said "salad and pasta each day" But what about Asian food? You neva get the chance, cuz you neva date Asian dudes! She said, I liked the weird stuff growing up But stopped in High School it wasn't cool enough Cuz you can't serve blood cubes at prom And Stinky tofu just sounds wrong Stop pretending, you don't like fermented I admit the smell can be offensive But it tastes so good that you won't need another man Let the flavors take you back to the motherland So I can take you back to my mother and She can teach you how to cook without butter and- "What do you mean I'm being patriarchal?" "Ooh ok, I mean I can cook" (AJ) I'm talkin' bout food We got different social norms than you Can't change my culture it's just how we do She told me it looks crazy I said it's okay I'm Asian!

"Diet, Heart Disease, and Cancer: Health Policy Failure and a New Medical Paradigm" Learn more about the Penn Vegan Society at http://www.pennveg.com/ University of Pennsylvania Irvine Auditorium 29 February 2012 7:30-9:00pm Lecture and presentation by T. Colin Campbell, PhD, Professor Emeritus of Nutritional Biochemistry at Cornell University on the topics of the relationship between animal protein ingestion and carcinogenesis based on his biochemical research; association between animal product consumption and disease formation based on his epidemiological research; and the reduction of the burden on the medical system through modernized dietary recommendations based on a plant-based diet. The purpose of this event is to provide the biochemical and medical basis for plant-based diets. There is wide misunderstanding and misrepresentation as to the benefits of a diet without animal products (meat, dairy, and eggs) and focused on plant products only. Often, dietitians hold center stage in providing information as to what people "should" eat, but Campbell's background as a research biochemist for more than 40 years sheds light on the topic from a perspective that resonates heavily with those who are interested in going into medicine or research life sciences like biochemistry, biology, and molecular biology. Campbell's work represents a fundamental paradigmatic shift in how those in the life sciences need to shift the types of research questions that are generated in research labs away from generalized mechanistic questions about cellular processes and towards mechanistic questions incorporating the the dynamicity of food consumption's effect on cellular processes. This represents a radical departure from the bioscience research that dominated the 20th century.

Vote for the Worst of the Worst every Friday: http://www.sportscenter.com ESPN SportsCenter's Not Top Ten for January 02, 2015 10. On January 01, 2015, Jon Lester signed with the Chicago Cubs. At least Red Sox fans can remember him in their official 2015 calendar. 09. At Houston, the rim broke and couldn't be fixed, so they replaced it. 08. Dion Waiters hits a wet patch on the floor on his way to the hoop. 07. The Spurs force overtime because Pelican Ömer Aşık accidentally tips the ball into the net on the in bounds pass. 06. Penn State offensive lineman Donovan Smith catches the punt that went out of bounds and shows off his return skills. 05. Kicking misfortune. Boston College kicker Mike Knoll hooks the PAT and costs his team a chance at victory in OT. LA Tech kicker Jonathan Barnes slips on the opening kick of the Heart of Dallas Bowl 04. Are Florida lineman doomed to get caught blocking each other? This time it's with Florida State. 03. At the Hickory Girl's Basketball Tournament in Pennsylvania, Kelsey Swartz missed a free throw so hard it apparently breaks the rim. 02. Jameis Winston slips on a banana peel, leading to an Oregon scoop and score. 01. Florida State's Devon Bookert comes up short on a game winning three, but Florida's Jacob Kurtz was there to ensure his team lost. Oops. WORST OF THE WORST: Utah receiver Kaelin Clay drops the ball before he goes into the endzone. Meanwhile, Oregon Linebacker Joe Walker picks it up and returns it for a 100-yard touchdown.

The most important places to visit in Philadelphia are: Franklin Court (was raised in 1812, the ghost of it still stands today. Here is the Christ Church Burial Ground, another famous landmark, where Ben Franklin and four other signers of the Declaration of Independence were laid to rest), Congress Hall (was home of the first Congress. On top of that, George Washington and John Adams were inaugurated here, and the Bill of Rights was ratified right inside), Liberty Bell (is perhaps Philadelphia's most famous attraction. On July 8th, 1776, it was rung to commemorate the hearing of the Declaration of Independence. The Bell weighs 2,000 pounds, which may not be apparent by looking at it) and many more. If you want to save time and money, the most important Philadelphia travel tip is to compare prices before booking a hotel room or a flight. You can do this for free on http://bookinghunter.com, a site that searches through hundreds of other travel websites in real time for the best travel deals available.

Philadelphia - Pennsylvania Travel Guide, Tourism, Vacation World Travel https://www.youtube.com/user/World1Tube Philadelphia - Pennsylvania Travel Guide http://goo.gl/gB5fmj Philadelphia was once dubbed the, "Athens of the Americas," as it was the undisputed cultural centre of the New World. Today, it remains one of America's most historical cities; quite significant in a country officially only 230 years old. Philadelphia is where the American War of Independence began and ended, with the creation and signing of the Constitution. But Philly is so much more than just a beacon of American liberty. Philadelphia also has a vibrant arts scene, diverse population, renowned orchestra, plus world-class museums and some fantastic restaurants. It is said Philadelphia is the only place in America where you could feed your brain and your belly at the same time and you only have to taste a Philly Cheesesteak once to understand that statement. Cheesesteaks and pretzels aside, you'll be amazed at the comprehensive choice of food available in the city, from fine dining to ethnic cuisine. This eclectic mix is visible in over 100 multi-ethnic neighbourhoods, encompassing everything from the bustling Italian market to African-American festivals and the traditional Amish community, who sell produce and foodstuffs in Reading Terminal Market, a purveyor of fresh farm food since 1892. This diversity has also helped produce some legendary musicians. In fact, few would argue that Philly's musical heritage could rival that of New York. Since colonial times, it has been a melting pot of many forms of music from classical to contemporary. Philadelphia was also the home of Dick Clark's famous American Bandstand TV show, which showcased some of America's leading singers and musicians in the 1960's, such as Frankie Avalon and Bobby Rydell, themselves natives of Philly's south side. 'Me and Mrs Jones', 'Love Train' and the Three Degrees' 'When Will I See You Again' were all products of TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia), which followed Motown into the 1970s as the shining light of soul music. Sightseers have plenty to feast their eyes on, not least Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776. Meanwhile, the 2012 opening of the Barnes Foundation means that, together with the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the refurbished Rodin Museum, Philadelphia is home to one of the world's finest art collections, including the largest collection of Renoirs outside Paris and more Cézanne's than all the Parisian museums put together. However, no trip to the city would be complete without a visit to the Rocky statue, at the base of the Museum of Art steps, which featured iconically in the Rocky movies. This landmark attracts more visitors than all of Philly's museums and art galleries. Meanwhile, take time to wander around the Old City District where former foundries, factories and warehouses have been turned into boutiques, art galleries and restaurants, with historic tours also available. For those looking to explore futher afield, Philadelphia is the gateway into Pennsylvania Dutch Country to the west, the ski resorts of the Pocono Mountains to the north, and the Delaware Peninsula and Atlantic Seaboard beaches to the south east. It's easy to see why Philly rates so highly when compared with New York just an hour or two to the north. Even the American comedian, writer and actor WC Fields wanted to have on his gravestone "Here lies WC Fields but I'd rather be living in Philadelphia." ============================ Philadelphia Museums, Philadelphia Transport, Philadelphia Tours, Philadelphia Introduction, Philadelphia Attractions, Philadelphia Hotels, Philadelphia Restaurants, Philadelphia Shopping, Philadelphia Nightlife, world travel video, Philadelphia video, Philadelphia, Philadelphia Travel guide, Philadelphia Tourism, Philadelphia Vacation, Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania travel guide, Pennsylvania tourism, Pennsylvania vacation, Pennsylvania Attractions, North America, United States of America === Philadelphia - Pennsylvania Travel Guide, Tourism, Vacation, Travel Tips, Attractions

A selection of 2014 tourist trains in Pennsylvania, some, not all.
They typically wear plain clothing with nothing as fancy as a button or a zipper, travel by horse-drawn buggy and shun modern conveniences like electricity. It's that Old World charm of the Amish that draws 8 million tourists - and $1.9 billion - each year to Pennsylvania's Lancaster County, home of the nation's largest Amish community of 31,000. What the Amish don't do, supporters say, is tote rifles as part of a violent protection racket - as depicted in the television show "Amish Mafia" - or regularly defy their religion, like in "Breaking Amish" and "Breaking Amish: Brave New World." And, Amish horror stories are not the norm, despite the plot lines of the upcoming "Amish Haunting."Last week, more than a dozen state officials, including Governor Tom Corbett and Congressmen Joe Pitts and Patrick Meehan, issued a statement citing "bigoted" and "negative, inaccurate and potentially damaging portrayal of (the) Amish" and demanding an end to the shows. The Lancaster Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Convention and Visitors Bureau, and a regional interfaith coalition of clergy echoed those comments. http://news.yahoo.com/tourism-vs-reality-tv-exploiting-pennsylvanias-amish-120806390.html http://www.wochit.com

Take a tour of Independence Hall in Philadelphia, United States -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats. Philadelphia Pennsylvania's Independence Hall is looked upon by many as the "birth place of the United States of America". Within these now historic walls, the Declaration of Independence was drafted, debated upon and finally signed in 1776. The bell tower of Independence Hall held the original Liberty Bell which now resides in the Liberty Bell Center. Construction of this American landmark started in 1732 in Georgian architectural style; twenty one years later it was finally finished. Independence Hall has gone through many restorations over the years, and in 1948 the building's interior was reverted back to its original appearance. This monument is housed within the confines of the Independence National Historic Park and has been honored with the moniker of World Heritage Site.
Take a tour of Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, United States -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is the home of an American icon of freedom and democracy. The Liberty Bell first rang out to the citizens of Philadelphia on July 8th 1776 to announce the first reading of the Declaration of Independence. The bell has since been taken out of Independence Hall's bell tower and now rests in the Liberty Bell Center, in front of its historic home. Encircling its crown is a phrase derived from the Bible; specifically Leviticus chapter 25, verse 10. The famous crack in the Liberty Bell is its third, the first two having been repaired. Though this enormous bell is technically broken, the rights and freedoms it stands for will remain strong and intact forever in our nation.

Mural art tours In 1984, the Mural Arts Program was founded in an effort to redirect the energies of graffiti writers from destructive to constructive. They were given paintbrushes to create representative, commemorative or sometimes just aesthetically appealing murals. Each piece represents and affects the community in which it is created. Since that time, more than 3,500 projects have been completed throughout Philadelphia, earning the City the distinction of being the "City of Murals." A variety of tours help you make sure you can strategically view as many murals as possible. You can sign up for various organised tours such as the Trolley Tour, Walking Tour, Love Letter Train Tour, and the brand new Sculptures and Murals Tour. You can even hire your own personal guide. Walking tours See the sights at your own pace and rent a tour CD from Audio Walk & Tour of Historic Philadelphia, which is available at Independence Visitor Center, 6th and Market Streets, and Lights of Liberty, 6th and Chestnut Streets. Excursions from Philadelphia Bucks County The old farmhouses and covered bridges that dot the lush countryside of Bucks County provide the perfect setting for its art colonies, summer theatre, country inns and even wineries. It's an area of outstanding natural beauty alongside the Delaware River just 35km (22 miles) from Center City. Many writers and artists based in New York have also lived here, including Pearl Buck and James Michener (there is a museum in Michener's honour at Doylestown), as well as Oscar Hammerstein and the pop singer Pink. New Hope in particular, with its collection of stone houses, narrow alleys, boutiques and galleries is one of Bucks' most visited towns. Hershey When Milton S Hershey bought 485 hectares (1,200 acres) of farm land in 1903 to build a new factory to produce his unique chocolate, little did he realise he was creating a new town too. But just like the other great chocolate pioneer, Cadbury in the UK, a township was built to house his employees, and the town of Hershey was born. Located in central Pennsylvania's Derry Township, approximately 130km (81 miles) from Philadelphia, the town grew into what it is today, a paradise of all things chocolate. Known as Chocolatetown USA, 'the sweetest place on earth', this chocoholic Garden of Eden is a fun excursion. There's Hershey's Chocolate World, Hersheypark (an amusement park featuring 60 attractions and a zoo), two hotels and even a chocolate spa. Do not miss the 3D movie complete with sensory effects and dancing candy bars at Hershey World. ============================ Philadelphia Museums, Philadelphia Transport, Philadelphia Tours, Philadelphia Introduction, Philadelphia Attractions, Philadelphia Hotels, Philadelphia Restaurants, Philadelphia Shopping, Philadelphia Nightlife, world travel video, Philadelphia video, Philadelphia, Philadelphia Travel guide, Philadelphia Tourism, Philadelphia Vacation, Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania travel guide, Pennsylvania tourism, Pennsylvania vacation, Pennsylvania Attractions, North America, United States of America === Philadelphia - Pennsylvania Travel Guide, Tourism, Vacation, Travel Tips, Attractions
Restaurants in Philadelphia - Pennsylvania World Travel https://www.youtube.com/user/World1Tube Philadelphia - Pennsylvania Travel Guide http://goo.gl/gB5fmj Stephen Starr is the undisputed restaurant king of Philly and the primary reason for Philadelphia's emergence as a serious dining capital. Starr has no less than 10 top eateries, and has set the benchmark for others to better . The Philadelphia's restaurants below have been grouped into three price categories: Expensive (over $75pp) Moderate ($25 -$50pp) Cheap (up to $25pp) These prices are for a three-course meal for one and the equivalent of a half-bottle of house wine. The sales tax of 7% is not included. Sometimes a gratuity (usually 15%) is added to the bill. If not, a tip of 15-20% for service is customary. Butcher & Singer Price: Expensive A Stephen Starr classic, this Rittenhouse Square steakhouse is a throwback to post prohibition Hollywood or New York, with art deco interiors, a 9m-high (28ft) ceiling, dark leather booths with red velvet couches and waiters with long, starched, white aprons. The generous raw bar and open plan kitchen is beautifully complemented by ice-cold martinis and soft jazz music. The fantastic prime steaks aside, food lovers will faint at the sight of the towering plateaus of fresh seafood. Address: 15th and Walnut Streets, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States Lacroix at the Rittenhouse Price: Expensive The setting is lovely - a long, narrow dining room with earthy tones, minimalist décor and large windows that overlook Rittenhouse Square. Here chef Jean-Marie Lacroix dazzles diners with gamy selections and fish dishes on a creative bill of fare that allows you to mix and match from any part of the menu. 'Superb' best describes the food, service and the wine list that boasts a cast of 500. The restaurant is on the second floor of the very chic Rittenhouse Hotel. Address: 210 West Rittenhouse Square, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States White Dog Café Price: Moderate Set in three adjacent Victorian brownstones, this progressive restaurant serves delectable fare that you can feel good about eating. The White Dog supports sustainable agriculture, with high-quality, farm-fresh ingredients, with local and seasonal ingredients used whenever possible. Not surprisingly, the menu changes frequently, with selections tending toward high-end comfort food. A recent menu featured the likes of crispy duck breast with rhubarb mostarda, creole crab cakes with rémoulade sauce, herb-roasted free-range chicken with garlic mashed potatoes and grass-fed beef burger on a homemade bun. Address: 3420 Sansom Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States Fork Price: Moderate This fashionable establishment incorporates some theatrical design features (huge lampshades, high banquettes and open kitchen) but still manages a welcoming ambience. Located on the city's main street in the historic area, this American bistro-style restaurant serves up the freshest local produce possible. Creative cocktails such as Fork Cosmopolitan and the Fork Lift ( Absolut Currant with pomegranate juice) or one of the fine selections of wine by the glass are a good beginning. The menu changes frequently, but hanger steak, some sort of whole fish and tasty seafood are always in residence. Home-baked desserts are stellar. Address: 306 Market Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States Geno's Steaks Price: Cheap Although there will always be a line to negotiate, you still need to be prepared and ready to specify which kind of cheese you'd like (Provolone, American or Cheese Whiz). The service is so quick that by the time you have given your order, your money will be taken and your sandwich will be waiting at the window. You have been warned. Unlicensed and open 24 hours. Address: 1219 South 9th Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States Rangoon Price: Cheap Situated in the Chinese section just off Arch Street, a short walk from the Conference Center, the green facade of Rangoon is easy to spot. As the name suggests, Burmese specialities (spinach salad, chilli shrimp and thousand-layer bread with potato curry dip) predominate here. Owned and run by three Burmese women, this restaurant, with its simple interior, is a favourite with locals in search of exotic Asian food, such as beef mint kebab and curried fish cakes. Rangoon is on the low side of moderate, great value for authentic Burmese fare. Shopping in Philadelphia - Pennsylvania World Travel https://www.youtube.com/user/World1Tube Philadelphia - Pennsylvania Travel Guide http://goo.gl/gB5fmj Philly benefits from Pennsylvania's tax free status on clothes and shoes, and its rich pedigree of renowned retailers is the stuff of legend; John Wanamaker, Adrienne Vittadini, Ralph Rucci, the Jones Apparel Group and current hot designer Tory Burch all have Philadelphia roots. With over 2,000 stores, Philly takes retail very seriously; so much so it has its own website dedicated to tax free shopping where you'll find boutiques, speciality-items, well-known brand stores and department stores listed. Key areas: For a touch of luxury, head to The Shops at Bellevue, 200 South Broad Street at Walnut Street. The Shops at Liberty Place, 17th and Chestnut Streets, is a good choice, with gourmet foods and restaurants as well as shops. South Street is perhaps the hippiest street in Philly, particularly the stretch between Front Street and Tenth Street, offering over 300 shops and 60 eateries. Rittenhouse Row is the city's upmarket shopping and dining district. Stretching from the Avenue of the Arts (Broad Street) to 21st Street, between Spruce and Market streets, Rittenhouse Row offers anything from designer clothes to a variety of art galleries. There's Armani Exchange, Club Monaco, Juicy Couture, Burberry, Barneys to name but a few. Jeweller's Row, on Sansom Street, and Antique Row, on Pine Street, run for several blocks in the Washington Square district. Fabric Row, on Fourth Street, between Bainbridge Street and Catherine Street, offers fabulous textile stores. Markets: The Italian Market, South Ninth Street, offers a range of foodstuffs every Tuesday to Saturday between 0900 and 1700, and Sunday between 0900 and 1400. It is the oldest and largest working outdoor market in the United States and has changed little in over 100 years. Head House Square offers an outdoor craft market during the summer months. Phila Flea Markets operate a number of flea markets throughout the city from May through to October. Shopping centres: Center City has hundreds of clothing and jewellery stores. The most iconic is the John Wanamaker building, on 13th Street and Market Street, now occupied by Macy's. It was designed to resemble Paris' Les Halles, and the enormous Grand Court is crowned by a 30,000-pipe organ, on which concerts are given daily. The Gallery at Market East has 170 stores across four levels. Shoppers come from all over the East Coast to the enormous King of Prussia Mall, 24km (15 miles) west of the city, on North Gulph Road. The shopping complex encompasses The Plaza and The Court, with eight major department stores and 365 speciality stores, including designer brands such as Versace, Hermes and Tiffany. Franklin Mills, 26km (16 miles) from Center City, at 1455 Franklin Mills Circle, is a huge factory outlet mall with more than 200 stores selling name brands at 20-70% discounts. Opening hours: Major department stores are open Monday to Saturday 1000-1900 and Sunday 1000-1700. Most of the downtown shops close at 1800 or 1900, although those in the large malls may stay open later. Many shops and department stores also stay open until 2000 on Wednesday. The big malls outside the city centre are open Monday to Saturday 1000-2130 and Sunday 1100-1800. Souvenirs: The Independence Visitor Center Gift Shop on 6th and Market Streets stock Philly branded souvenirs. Along South Street you'll find all kinds of souvenir shopping from t-shirts to gourmet foods. Tax information: There are no tax refund schemes currently available to visitors to Philadelphia. ============================ Philadelphia Museums, Philadelphia Transport, Philadelphia Tours, Philadelphia Introduction, Philadelphia Attractions, Philadelphia Hotels, Philadelphia Restaurants, Philadelphia Shopping, Philadelphia Nightlife, world travel video, Philadelphia video, Philadelphia, Philadelphia Travel guide, Philadelphia Tourism, Philadelphia Vacation, Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania travel guide, Pennsylvania tourism, Pennsylvania vacation, Pennsylvania Attractions, North America, United States of America === Philadelphia - Pennsylvania Travel Guide, Tourism, Vacation, Travel Tips, Attractions

Transport in Philadelphia - Pennsylvania World Travel https://www.youtube.com/user/World1Tube Philadelphia - Pennsylvania Travel Guide http://goo.gl/gB5fmj Public transport: We have William Penn's original grid street design to thank for Philadelphia's easy navigation. It spans just 25 blocks between two rivers -- the Schuylkill and the Delaware. In between, the north/south streets are numbered and the east/west streets have tree names. Each neighbourhood is clearly signposted and colour coded. Using public transport is however, just as easy - the subway system, street cars and buses provide a clean and reliable service. SEPTA , operates all interconnecting buses, streetcars, subway and commuter trains in the city. Operating hours vary and some bus routes operate all night. You can buy tickets from ticket booths and machines at the stations or on board (exact change required). Token discount packs are also available. SEPTA's $11 day pass ($28 for families) offers a full day of unlimited travel on all modes of transport, plus a one-way trip on the Airport Rail Line (R1). It is sold at the visitor centre at 16th Street and JFK Boulevard and online. Weekly and monthly passes are also available. The bright purple Phlash streetcar runs a continuous loop to the major attractions, from the Art Museum to Penn's Landing. Buses stop every 12 minutes at special Phlash lampposts and services operate daily from May through November. The Freedom Ferry provides a ferry service between Penn's Landing, Walnut Street and Columbus Boulevard in Philadelphia, and the New Jersey State Aquarium, Federal Street and Riverside Drive in Camden, during the summer (May-Sep). Crossings take 12 minutes and leave every hour on Saturdays and Sundays. You can buy tickets at dockside terminals. Taxis: Taxis are easily hailed in the street throughout Center City. Taxi companies offering a telephone service include Yellow Cab Co (tel: (215) 333 3333), Liberty Cab Co (tel: (215) 389 8000), Quaker City Cab (tel: (215) 728 8000). Olde City Taxi: (215) 338 0838. Driving: With such a compact city centre and good public transport, you really don't need a car. However if you do have one, there are many parking lots and garages located around the city centre. On-street parking is also available in Center City but you should look at the posted signs for restrictions on when parking is allowed. Car hire: The minimum age for car hire is generally 25 years but some companies will hire cars to drivers aged between 21 and 24 years for a steep premium. If you want to hire a car, you'll need a full national driving licence. Liability insurance is costly but necessary. It is a good idea to check with your insurance company or your credit card to see if it includes hire car liability. Bicycle hire: Trophy Bikes, 3131 Walnut Street, hire out bicycles by the day. Prices include lock, helmet and map. ============================ Philadelphia Museums, Philadelphia Transport, Philadelphia Tours, Philadelphia Introduction, Philadelphia Attractions, Philadelphia Hotels, Philadelphia Restaurants, Philadelphia Shopping, Philadelphia Nightlife, world travel video, Philadelphia video, Philadelphia, Philadelphia Travel guide, Philadelphia Tourism, Philadelphia Vacation, Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania travel guide, Pennsylvania tourism, Pennsylvania vacation, Pennsylvania Attractions, North America, United States of America === Philadelphia - Pennsylvania Travel Guide, Tourism, Vacation, Travel Tips, Attractions
Museums in Philadelphia - Pennsylvania World Travel https://www.youtube.com/user/World1Tube Philadelphia - Pennsylvania Travel Guide http://goo.gl/gB5fmj National Liberty Museum Not far from the Liberty Bell itself, the Liberty museum highlights intangible ideas like diversity, bigotry, heroism and liberty, and seeks to make them more concrete through interactive exhibits and art. Many of the exhibits are glass sculptures including Dale Chihuly's 6m (20ft) 'Flame of Liberty'. Harvey Littleton's 'Shattered Lives', a bullet through glass, illustrates both literally and figuratively what one bullet can do. The 'Jelly Bean People' are a reminder that everyone is the same no matter what colour they are. Opening Times: Tues-Sat 1000-1700, Sun 1200-1800 (Oct-Apr); daily 1000-1800 (May-Sept). Admission Fees: Yes Disabled Access: Yes Unesco: No Address: 321 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, United States Philadelphia Museum of Art Completing the Benjamin Franklin Parkway's cultural corridor, this stately neoclassical building rising majestically at the end of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway offers a spectacular view down the length of the Parkway towards City Hall. The steps leading up to its entrance were immortalised by Rocky, in the 1976 film of the same name. The museum's collection is one of the most important in the country, with more than half a million paintings, sculptures and artefacts spanning 2,000 years of art from Asia, Europe and America. Free gallery tours, which pinpoint the highlights, are given hourly. On Friday evenings the museum hosts 'Art After Five', with live music and cocktails on hand. Much to the museum's chagrin, thousands of tourists who collect at the base of the steps immortalised in the 1976 film Rocky are there just for one piece of 'art'; a statue of the actor Sly Stallone. Most take picture of themselves next to it and then move on. Opening Times: Tues-Sun 1000-1700 (Fri until 2045). Admission Fees: Yes (free Sun) Disabled Access: Yes Unesco: No Address: 26th Street and Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Philadelphia, United States Rodin Museum A branch of the nearby Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Rodin Museum features the largest collection of the great sculptor's work outside of Paris. Its gardens and stately exhibition halls are sprinkled with numerous pieces, including casts of The Thinker and The Kiss as well as The Burghers of Calais. Framing the entrance is his Gates of Hell. The museum is due to reopen on 13 July after a multimillion dollar facelift resulting in the Rodin Museum's stunning gardens becoming fully visible and accessible from the Parkway. The rejuvenated museum and gardens will keep the spirit of its original design but will also reunify the Parkway, making it a fluid extension from the Barnes Foundation gardens. Opening Times: Tues-Sun 1000-1700. Admission Fees: No Disabled Access: Yes Unesco: No Address: 22nd Street and Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Philadelphia, United States National Museum of American Jewish History Rising five stories above Independence Mall, in the heart of historic Philadelphia, the National Museum of American Jewish History is a brand new state-of-the-art facility that fittingly joins with Independence Hall, the National Constitution Center, and the Liberty Bell as icons that have shaped American history. In fact it was Haym Solomon, a Jewish financier who almost single handedly ran the finances for the Revolution. The museum explores over 350 years of Jewish life through evocative objects, telling moments, and state-of-the-art interactive media. There's also a 'Hall of Fame' showcasing well known Jewish Americans such as Albert Einstein, Steven Speilberg, Estee Lauder, Barbara Streisand and Irving Berlin. There is everything from the skeletons of Siamese twins to the corpse of the Soap Woman and other 18th and 19th century medical exhibits. The museum currently has Einstein's brain on display. Exploration : Historical Trains CLICK SHOW MORE TO READ HISTORY http://www.AbandonedSteve.com https://www.facebook.com/SteveAbandonedExploration https://twitter.com/AbandonedSteve The Pennsylvania Railroad Museum is located in Strasburg Pennsylvania that sits in quiet Lancaster County. It features over 100 locomotives / cars dated 19th and 20th century that are old and abandoned looking as well as fully restored back to its glory. This museums goal is to bring these locomotives that were once the most used transportation source in the late 1800s to mid 1900s back to life. Through out the video you will tour the outside which has a few old locos waiting to be restored some sitting there for many years. There is also a turn table outside. Inside however are a lot of fully restored trains ranging from steam, to diesel, and to electric powered. This might not be the abandoned type video you are use to seeing from me but this place is worth checking out. It is open to the public for tours so check them out at http://www.rrmuseumpa.org

There’s a Diner out on Route Three Twenty Two.
Western Pennsylvania.
I spent my life there one afternoon.
I can’t get that stretch of road
Out of my head.
I hear it when I
Take a shower
Reading the paper.
I’d look up and see it
Across the valley.
They tore down the Starlight
And down at the end of the road
Built a big Day’s Inn.
Blocks the view.
But I know that road’s still there
I can feel it wherever I go.
Whatever I’m doing
It knows that I’m still here.
And it's waitin’.
We are abandoned.
Lies own the word.
All the pictures and
All the museums
In the world
Are just a sham
Peeking played
By the clever people
Who broke the rules.
Reality is defined by the needs of the
Media
History is rewritten
Faster than it can happen.
Culture’s a weapon
That’s used against us.
Culture’s a swamp.
And a superstition;
Ignorance and abuse.
Geography is a language
That can’t screw up.
Land,
And what we add to it
Cannot lie.
It’s also like a mirror
In which we see ourselves,
Or choose to turn away.
Watch it now.
Watch it.
Watch it.
I'm stuck in the shadows of a man that I never could be
Thinking twice about trusting but losing that someone who cares
You killed me by silence but whispered that this feels
Oh so good I feel oh so good
And you right where you are is where I ought to be
Somewhere behind the scars there's always room for me
This broken bracelet is all that I have left from you
And the morning sun came too soon
'Cause what's left is this wall
That is crumbling down in our lives leaving him behind
Have I lost my way oh baby say it's not true
That it can hurt so good when I am right next to you
Right where you are
Remember somewhere I'll be found next to you
Right next to you
I'm stuck in the shadows of a man that I never could be
Thinking twice about trusting but losing that someone who cares
You killed me by silence but whispered that this feels
Oh so good I feel oh so good
And you right where you are is where I ought to be
Somewhere behind the scars there's always room for me
This broken bracelet is all that I have left from you
And the morning sun came too soon
'Cause what's left is this wall
That is crumbling down in our lives leaving him behind
Have I lost my way oh baby say it's not true
That it can hurt so good when I am right next to you
A stranger came to townAsking questions about your
whereabouts
I told him that you'd gone to Pennsylvania
But he won't be fooled for long
No, he won't be foold for long
No, he won't be fooled for long, my love.
My love...
I wish you could just say
What really happened
But they'd lock you away for good
Supposing that we drive to California
But we won't be fooled for long
No, we won't be fooled for long
No, we won't be fooled for long, my love.
My love...
Well, maybe when this all blows over
You can take me out again
And we can just pretend
This never happened
But we won't be fooled for long
No, we won't be fooled for long
No, we won't be fooled for long, my love.
My love...
I saw you standing on the street below
Outside my window surrounded by a glow
You were a young man troubled hadn't found its way
You were smiling, that's all you had to say
I thought I saw you
Pennsylvania
The streets were busy the cafes and the bars
People laughing, the flash of cars
The neon tower like a fist up in the sky
All that power like a spit in heaven's eye
I thought I saw you
Pennsylvania
I thought I saw you
Pennsylvania
A bell is ringing in the courthouse square
Rusted angels floating everywhere
St. Michael singing to the spirits passing by
To blacked out windows and the silence there inside
I thought I saw you
Pennsylvania
I thought I saw you

The hotel by a train
The well known ghosts remain
Thought I felt you
