Which Magnesium Supplement is Right for Me? Dr. Mandell
If you’re shopping for a magnesium supplement, it can be easy to get overwhelmed by all the options. There are dozens of different brands and you can find magnesium in a capsule, powder, or liquid. The most important decision, though, is the type of magnesium supplement.
There are a handful of different types of magnesium, including magnesium glycinate, magnesium taurate, magnesium oxide, magnesium citrate, magnesium sulfate, and more. And, as with most things, finding the right one for you will make a difference.

How to Write the Formula for Magnesium carbonate (MgCO3)
In this video we'll write the correct formula for Magnesium carbonate (MgCO3).
To write the formula for Magnesium carbonate we'll use the Periodic Table, a Common Ion Table, and follow some simple rules.
Because Magnesium carbonate has a polyatomic ion (the group of non-metals after the metal) we'll need to use a table of names for common polyatomic ions, in addition to the Periodic Table.
Keys for Writing Formulas for Ternary Ionic Compounds:
1. Write the element symbol for the metal and its charge using Periodic Table.
2. Find the name and charge of the polyatomic ion on the Common Ion Table.
3. See if the charges are balanced (if they are you're done!)
4. Add subscripts (if necessary) so the charge for the entire compound is zero.
5. Use the crisscross method to check your work.
Not...

Is MgCO3 (Magnesium carbonate) Ionic or Covalent?
To tell if MgCO3 (Magnesium carbonate) is ionic or covalent (also called molecular) we look at the Periodic Table that and see that Mg is a metal and CO3 is a group of non-metals. Here the group of nonmetals make up a polyatomic ion. When we have a metal and a group of non-metals the compound is usually considered ionic.
Because we have a metal and non-metals in MgCO3 there will be a difference in electronegativity between the metal and group of nonmetals. This difference results in an electron(s) being transferred from the metal (lower electronegativity) to the non-metal (higher electronegativity). The results in the metal becoming a positive ion and the group of non-metals a negative polyatomic ion. The two opposite charges are attracted and form the ionic bond between ions in Magnesium...

The BEST And WORST Forms of Magnesium
Magnesium is incredibly important for cellular health as it is involved in over 300 different enzymatic reactions. When magnesium levels are low, you WILL feel it.
This leads a lot of people to use supplements to replace low magnesium levels.
But here's the problem:
When you go looking for magnesium supplements you will be met with a huge array of different types. And these types and formulations of magnesium are NOT all created equal.
Let's talk about the best types of magnesium so you can replace lost levels and manage symptoms like fatigue, insomnia, stress, anxiety, depression, and more.
1. Magnesium oxide. This is the cheapest and least effective form and should be avoided!
2. Magnesium citrate. This form is great for treating constipation.
3. Magnesium malate. This is a st...

If you’re taking magnesium supplement, or heard that it could be good for different applications - here’s what you need to know.
Not all magnesium supplements are created equal.
And there are many different forms of magnesium.
Depending on which one you get will determine what it does.
But beyond that there are some very important things to look out for when choosing any supplement, especially magnesium.
In this video I break all this down and more.

Notes:
- Don't write the subscript '1'.
- If you use the criss-cross method and end up with something like Ca2S2 you'll need to reduce the subscripts to Ca1S1 which we write CaS.
Note: It is possible to have two polyatomic ions such as NH4NO3. In this case find and write both names as found on the Common Ion Table.

The two opposite charges are attracted and form the ionic bond between ions in Magnesium carbonate.

Because we have a combination of a metal and non-metal MgCO3 (Magnesium carbonate) is considered an ionic compound.
In general, ionic compounds:
- form crystals.
- have high melting points and boiling points.
- are hard and brittle.
- conduct electricity when dissolved in water.
- as solids do not conduct electricity.

This is a stimulating form of magnesium great for those with fatigue (don't take it at night!).
4. Magnesium l-threonate. This form of magnesium crosses the blood-brain barrier and is ideal for treating conditions like depression.
5. Magnesium glycinate. This is one of the best all rounded forms for improving whole body magnesium.
6. Magnesium orotate. Magnesium orotate is ideal for improving athletic performance but it doesn't treat constipation.
7. Sucrosomial magnesium. This newer form of magnesium is probably best for improving athletic performance.

Making Chalk Washes for Scale Models - Quick Tip
In this Quick Tip I explain how I mix and apply chalk washes to my models, using this cheap and easy technique. It defines recessed detail and creates the effect of dust and dirt on the model, making them look more weathered and realistic in my opinion.
RECENT DISCOVERIES:
You can also use SOFT PASTELS as well as chalks for this effect, and you DON'T have to gloss varnish the model before you apply the wash if you don't want to.
