The Business are an English Oi! band formed in 1979 in Lewisham, South London. Their biggest hit song in recent times, "England 5 - Germany 1", (based on the result of a World Cup Qualifying match in 2001), became a football anthem for England.
The band was formed in 1979 by school friends Steven ('Steve') Kent (guitar), Michael Fitzsimons ('Micky Fitz') (vocals), Nicholas ('Nick') Cunningham (drums) and Martin Smith (bass). They played their first gig in front of friends in February 1980, and after taking on Lol Pryor as manager, began performing more often. The band's first release was the song "Out in the Cold" on the A Sudden Surge of Sound compilation album. They played their first Oi! concert in 1981, supporting The 4-Skins, and they became closely associated with the Oi! scene from then on. While the Oi! movement was wrongly labelled as far right and racist (despite the fact that several Oi! bands played at Rock Against Racism concerts), The Business took a stance against political extremism with their Oi Against Racism and Political Extremism ...But Still Against The System tour.
The Business is a 2005 film written and directed by Nick Love. The film stars Danny Dyer, Tamer Hassan and Roland Manookian all of which were in Love's previous film The Football Factory. It also stars Geoff Bell and Georgina Chapman. The plot of The Business follows the Greek tragedy-like rise and fall of a young cockney's career within a drug importing business run by a group of British ex-pat fugitive criminals living on the coast of the Costa del Sol (aka the "Costa del Crime") in Spain.
The film is narrated by Frankie (Dyer), a young everyman living in South East London during the Thatcher era of the 1980s, with little hope of ever making anything of himself, yet he dreams of "being somebody" and escaping his lonely, dreary lifestyle. After severely beating his mother's abusive boyfriend, he becomes a fugitive, and through family connections escapes to Spain's Costa Del Sol. His job there is to deliver a bag containing drugs and cash to "Playboy Charlie" (Hassan), an ex-pat and criminal-on-the-run, a suave and dapper man who is very successful in Spain and runs his own nightclub and drugs business and lives a life of luxury. Impressed by Frankie's honesty in not opening the bag, Charlie takes a liking to Frankie, introduces him to his business associates, including the psychopathic Sammy (Bell), and invites him to remain in Spain and work as his driver.
The Business is a Canadian television series, which airs on The Movie Network in Canada and IFC in the United States.
The plot of the show centres on Vic Morgan (Rob Deleeuw), an adult film director of a low-budget softcore pornographic series similar to Girls Gone Wild. He attempts to become a legitimate film maker after having converted to Judaism to be successful in the entertainment industry. Season one depicts the production of his first independent film and the difficulties along the way with an undisciplined production staff, poorly skilled actors, and an eccentric Japanese investor. Season two follows the company following the success of its first film as they search for a follow-up project.
The series is filmed and produced in Montreal by Philms Pictures, and has a predominantly Canadian cast.
In mathematics, a continuous function is, roughly speaking, a function for which sufficiently small changes in the input result in arbitrarily small changes in the output. Otherwise, a function is said to be a discontinuous function. A continuous function with a continuous inverse function is called a homeomorphism.
Continuity of functions is one of the core concepts of topology, which is treated in full generality below. The introductory portion of this article focuses on the special case where the inputs and outputs of functions are real numbers. In addition, this article discusses the definition for the more general case of functions between two metric spaces. In order theory, especially in domain theory, one considers a notion of continuity known as Scott continuity. Other forms of continuity do exist but they are not discussed in this article.
As an example, consider the function h(t), which describes the height of a growing flower at time t. This function is continuous. By contrast, if M(t) denotes the amount of money in a bank account at time t, then the function jumps whenever money is deposited or withdrawn, so the function M(t) is discontinuous.
In mathematics, the terms continuity, continuous, and continuum are used in a variety of related ways.
In mathematics, specifically set theory, a continuous function is a sequence of ordinals such that the values assumed at limit stages are the limits (limit suprema and limit infima) of all values at previous stages. More formally, let γ be an ordinal, and be a γ-sequence of ordinals. Then s is continuous if at every limit ordinal β < γ,
and
Alternatively, s is continuous if s: γ → range(s) is a continuous function when the sets are each equipped with the order topology. These continuous functions are often used in cofinalities and cardinal numbers.
The Yunnan hide-and-seek incident (云南躲猫猫事件) also called the 208 case (208案件) was a case where a man was taken into police custody in Jinning, Yunnan, People's Republic of China in 2009 and mysteriously died a few days later. He was reported to have died from playing hide and seek, though netizens claim he was beaten to death by the police. The case was later closed with three suspects receiving different sentences.
Li Qiaoming (李荞明), aged 24, of Yuxi city, was taken into custody in Jinning county on January 30, 2009 for cutting trees without authorization. He was hospitalized on February 8, and died four days later from severe brain injuries. According to Jinning police bureau, Li died while playing Peekaboo (躲猫猫), a game similar to hide and seek. They claimed an inmate reacted angrily when Li found his hiding spot during the game. Li was then pushed and struck a wall as he fell. The incident then appeared in local newspapers in Kunming on February 13.
