Soviet Union, china and other communist allies supported North Vietnam and U.S.A with other anti-communist countries supported South Vietnam. Viet Cong's a North front fought a guerrilla war against heavily armed America by aiming to reunify Vietnam under one rule of communism. On the other hand U.S active military intervention was from 1965 - 1973 and was mainly involved in the war to stop the spreading of communism by using overwhelming firepower and heavy airstrikes against North. US was concerned particularly with "Domino Theory", that if Asian nation fell to the communist ideology then other countries would follow quickly. In 1968 General VO Nguyen Giap led the "Tet offensive" and was a major surprise offensive against American and south Vietnamese forces on the lunar New Year celebrations. U.S. Embassy was invaded in Saigon and many capitals throughout the country were attacked. Though the Causalities were very high for North, but American media played a disaster for the white house and to the presidency of the U.S president Lyndon Johnson. America withdrawn the forces in 1973 as a result of the Case-Church Amendment passed by the U.S congress and later within 2 years the unification of Vietnam came under communist control with the capture of Saigon. Around 3 million people (includes 58,000 Americans) were killed in the war. Tiến Quân Ca is the Vietnam Song of Marching. Also the National Anthem.
