Wolfgang Flür (born 17 July 1947) is a German musician, best known as a member of the electronic group Kraftwerk from 1973 to 1987, playing electronic percussion. Flür claims that he also invented the group's electric drums used throughout the 1970s. However, patent records dispute this citing Florian Schneider and Ralf Hütter as the creators.
Previously he had played a conventional acoustic drum kit in the Düsseldorf 1960s band The Spirits of Sound. Guitarist Michael Rother was also a member of The Spirits of Sound, later forming Neu! with then Kraftwerk drummer Klaus Dinger.
In 1997, Flür founded Yamo, which released an album Time Pie, a collaboration with Mouse on Mars. Flür's next release, the 12" and remixes of I Was A Robot, climbed to number 6 in the German club charts. Collaborations with Pizzicato Five and Der Plan founding member Pyrolator have been announced, and the lyrics to the song "Greed" are in Flür's autobiography, but this material remains unreleased.
Wolfgang is a German male given name traditionally popular in Germany and Austria. The name is a combination of the Old High German word wulf, meaning "wolf" and gang, meaning "path, journey". The Old High German "wulf" occurs in names as the prefixes "wulf" and "wolf", as well as the suffixes "ulf" and "olf". "Wulf" is a popular element of the common dithematic German names. This is likely due the ancient reverence of the wolf as a strong, predatorial animal, also revered for its beauty. Names that contain this word also reference to Odin's wolves, Geri and Freki, as well as the apocalyptic Fenrir, and occurs in hundreds of German names. This theme exists in other names such as Adolf, Aethelwulf, Beowulf, Cynewulf, Rudolph, Wulfstan, Ulfilas, and Wulf. "Gang" exists in such names as Gangperht, Gangulf, Bertegang, Druhtgang, Hildigang, Hrodegang, and Wiligang. The earliest recorded bearer of the name was a tenth-century Saint Wolfgang of Regensburg. Due to the lack of conflict with the pagan reference in the name with Catholicism, it is likely a much more ancient name whose meaning had already been lost by the tenth-century. Grimm (Teutonic Mythology p. 1093) interpreted the name as that of a hero in front of whom walks the "wolf of victory". A Latin gloss by Arnoldus Emmeramensis interprets the name as Lupambulus.

Notes: This release includes the same songs as the Streetmark album Eileen from 1977. It was released with different artist name and title after Wolfgang Riechmann was murdered and his solo-album Wunderbar became a success. Wolfgang Riechmann started his musical career in 1966. After playing in a school band with Michael Rother and Wolfgang Flür, later famous with Kraftwerk and Neu, he then became member of an other Düsseldorf (Germany) located band called "Streetmark" . It was end of 1977 when Riechmann started working on his solo career. The result was the LP "Wunderbar" which was released on SKY Records. Unfortunately he did not experience the release. In August 1978 Riechmann was killed - without any reason - by two drunk guys, who stabbed him to death. All tracks written by Thoma...

Goethe-Institut Magazine KuBus 77: DJs -- The Art of Spinning Records DYKO+Wolfgang Flür interview Tel Aviv Germany's long tradition of electronic music continues to influence current productions to this day. Joint appearances by the electropop band Dyko and Wolfgang Flür are just one example of this. Flür was the drummer for the band Kraftwerk, whose austere, progressive electronic compositions achieved worldwide success in the '70s and '80s. Even American techno pioneers were influenced by Kraftwerk. In this way, the music evolved and returned to German dance floors -- where it is now played by Wolfgang Flür, among others. Before performing as a DJ, he plays drums in concert for Dyko, whose lead singer, John Barrie Dyke, also consciously orients himself to the Kraftwerk sound, which he ...
