North Korean travel experts have slammed the BBC for putting local guides at risk, saying the country would hold them responsible for the actions of the journalists who posed as LSE students on a tour of the country. And two tour guides speaking to HuffPost UK said it was relatively easy for anyone to visit the country, and even obtain a journalist visa. The London School of Economics has expressed fury at BBC journalists who went undercover on a student trip to North Korea, claiming the corporation recklessly endangered students. FLOATING ISLANDS
Millions of people abandon their countries each year in search of a better life, from Africa to Europe, the Caribbean to the United States, North to South Korea. In transit their status and human rights become negligible as they become illegal immigrants. What motivates them is usually universal; poverty, war, fear. They travel by foot, hide inside cars, are shipped in trucks and buses, and many travel by boat. In our globalised world the boundaries are open for trade but closed for immigration, their numbers are reported aligned with political motivations, the complexity of the individual story and its outcome, whether dead or alive, is skimmed over as the next news piece is ranked precedence. Based on quotes and testimonials, this hand drawn animation focuses on what happens while floating in the no man's land of open waters.
Tomás Pichardo is an animator from the Dominican Republic, an Altos de Chavón School of Design graduate and a research fellow at Fabrica. This is the first installment of a research project that will explore the movements of illegal immigrants around the world.

F.W.C. Berston Field House is a recreation center in North Flint. It's a big, beige building on Saginaw Street, a mile north of downtown. It's been there since 1923. After a full day of work, coach Jason Crutchfield volunteers his time, five nights a week. 6pm-8pm. Dead of winter cold. Height of summer heat. No matter what, the place is buzzing.
The gym itself is in the basement. The entrance is in the back, but you wouldn’t know it. There’s no sign on the big steel door. Inside it's too hot. The air doesn't move. It smells like sweat and hand wraps. Photos of Ali and posters of the Direll brothers are taped to the walls with scotch tape. Jump ropes and dusty speed bags litter the floor. Even with the banks of buzzing fluorescent lights, the place is dim. In the middle of it all, an old boxing ring.
Along the wall, a dozen kids punch the air in unison. Over and over, one of them yells out the combination and the others throw the punches: 5-year-olds stand next to 19-year-olds. All boys and 2 girls. But for those two hours, they are all boxers.
Jason has been coaching Claressa since she was eleven. Like every coach, he’s always wanted a champion. He just never thought it’d be a girl.

In a broken old port town stranded deep up north, a strange, magical,shrine-like building has appeared. in a neighborhood falling into such profound decline that the street lights have been switched off and many houses have been boarded up waiting for new development that may never come,one particular pebble dashed council house has mysteriously blossomed into new life, covered with ever more intricate and beautiful patterns, patterns made out of Fosters beer cans, like some alcoholic gingerbread house at the end of the world.
The Can House is a DIY social club, a lighthouse in a stormy sea: the big society's drunk and it draws them in like moths to a flame. There's a thousand stories on the side of that house: for every eight cans there's a drunken man for every 150 they've had a party...
Tragically, the Can House soon faces demolition, to make way for a new flatpack ikea style estate. The director of this film, seduced by the peculiar, bust-up beauty of the Can House, decided he had to create a record of it, and the life inside it.
The can House is a piece of contemporary folk art, made by Phil, a man on the margins of society, a man who's life is in freefall. This is what you come up with when you run out of nothing- the Can House is an act of defiance, a two fingers up to the hand of fate, to a world slowly degenerating and disappearing. It is a memorial to alcoholism and to wasted lives, but it is also an act of creativity that gives Phil"s life a sense of meaning, that helps it make some kind of sense.
