Various of family preparing food STORYLINE: Twenty-three year-old Russian Albina Khazeeva gets a strange feeling when she passes Lenin's monument in the capital Moscow. Twenty years after the collapse of the USSR, the father of the October 1917 revolution hasn't moved an inch and Russia hasn't yet fully turned the page on its Soviet past. The Russian prime minister and former KGB colonel Vladimir Putin is the living embodiment of the ambivalent relationship the country has with the Soviet Union. This is what makes Albina uncomfortable. For the first time in her life, she went to an opposition street protest two weeks ago. She believes the December 4 parliamentary elections were fraudulent. Tens of thousands of Russians protested alongside Albina in a type of demonstration that Moscow hasn't seen for many years. On Saturday, she plans to protest against the ruling regime, which reminds her of a frightening past. "To a certain extent, the worst of the Soviet Union is coming back to us. Albina, who has just started work as a journalist, can't imagine living in a country where she would be told what books not to read or what clothes not to wear. With Putin remaining in power, Albina thinks her fears might one day become reality. "We're going toward the past, and this tendency is strengthening," she said. "f nothing is changed I think we can easily go back to the USSR." Albina Khazeeva belongs to a minority. According to recent surveys, about two-thirds of Russians still feel nostalgic for the USSR.
