This dive was conducted by Global Underwater Explorer divers in support of Project Baseline. Site description for this video: "Deep Oculina reef rises from 280 to 220 feet deep. Extensive coral coverage. Important spawning sites for numerous species of fish, including Grouper, Black Sea Bass, Speckled Hind and Snapper. Reef has been studied Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute since 1977. It is approximate 1000 meters in circumference at the base, some what rectangular in shape and consists of three parallel ridges running approximately EW which have a minimum depth of 64 meters. In 1980 Oculina structures up to 2 meters in height were reported. In 2014 no structures larger then 20 centimeters were observed." www.projectbaseline.org

Minecraft 1.5.2 Vanilla/Hardcore Speed Run 01 - Episode 1

This is my first pass at a vanilla Minecraft speed run on Hardcore difficulty. Total time was 3:56:50, which was far longer than my goal. However, I'm posting this anyway for two reasons. First, as a baseline for my own future speed run attempts with much better times. Secondly, to highlight and discuss the various issues related to doing a serious vanilla Minecraft speed run, all of which are addressed here. Rules I used: - Vanilla Minecraft 1.5.2 for PC. No mods, no custom texture packs, no changes whatsoever. - Random seed (leave blank) - Default settings (structures, etc.) - Hardcore mode - Clock starts with player gets control at spawn, and ends when the player loses control and the end credits begin to roll. - No using F3 (But that's just me personally. I see nothing wrong with people using it.) - Must be done in one sitting. - Record video of entire thing start to finish There are lots of things I could have done better or differently in this first "official" speed run. I will do several more speed run attempts in the near future, and should easily be able to bring my own personal record down to 2-3 hours total time (6-9 game days). Times somewhere around 1.5 hours are also quite possible if I have exceptionally good luck with Minecraft's many random factors. For those who don't know, a speedrun is a play-through of a whole video game performed with the intent of completing it as fast as possible, mainly for the purposes of entertainment and competition. In order to attain the highest possible quality of play in a speedrun, the author usually has to look at and think about the game differently from the way that most casual gamers would.
